I have multiple food, allergies and have eaten safely at Blackies's a few times before on the patio. The food was good. I felt they were very conscientious of making my food allergy safe. However, this past Sunday with this false sense of security, I ordered food for takeout. I ordered the same food that I usually get in the restaurant, and specified very clearly, my allergies. I was glutenned so badly! I was so sick for two days. I left a phone message the next morning telling them what happened and no one has gotten back to me yet. read more

The host desk has one of the foulest tempered hostess' that I've ever had the displeasure to encounter. Chastisement for arriving early to a reservation is never a good start, her generally poor demeanor not withstanding. All that, and the place is packed to the gills on a weekend. OMG AMAZING! I am obsessed with this place. This is my go to spot after work. The pulled pork nachos are great with mocktail and the green envy salad is top tier. Summer is the best to sit outside and enjoy friends amongst the trees and service is always amazing. Go here! read more

Blackie's is absolutely amazing! It's a really large restaurant with an impressive menu. I was tempted by the sandwiches, I was tempted by the pizza, I was tempted by the nachos. Ultimately, I decided to try the "Clean Livin'" menu. I love when a restaurant does indulgences well, and I was intrigued to see if the healthier options could impress me. They sure did! I got the 5oz short rib as my protein, the pepperoni pizza spaghetti squash (vegan and dairy free!), and a side f freshly squished guac with cucumber sticks. I know, I know, sounds like a weird combo but it's what I was feeling. Everything was so good! The spaghetti squash especially was really special- warm and comforting, you'd never know it was free of gluten, soy, and dairy! We were seated at a bar that was overlooking the pizza preparation kitchen, and the pepperoni pizza spaghetti squash really filled the need for something pizza-related! The service was wonderful- the place was hopping (on a Wednesday) but we were well taken care of! I was with a friend with strict dietary restrictions and she loved her meal just as much. They take food allergies and sensitivities very seriously here. I can't recommend Blackie's Tavern enough! read more

i think it's funny with every negative review it's always the guests fault and you can never take accountability. i manage a bar. i understand the restaurant. take responsibility and don't blame the guests for not speaking up the exact moment something isn't correct. my pizza was crap and i did not feel like coming back in to a rude host to maybe fix the problem. and yes it did take about two hours for my takeout order to be done. i ordered it. was told 45 minutes. i got there an hour after i called and waited almost another full hour. why would i lie about that? but its my fault right unreal. read more

Always loved it here! Sunday March 8 bartenders were awful. We do not complain ever but I thought if it were my business I'd want to know. I tried to find a 'contact us' on the website to let them know how bad the service was but couldn't find so here we are. Got first drinks espresso martinis and ordered an app. App comes very shortly after we could use another drink especially because no water. They normally always give water first thing there. Brown haired female bartender would come all around our area never make eye contact or even look at our drinks to see if needed and they were empty for so long. Reg food came finally girl that was working the high tops asked us if we wanted another. Food was not up to par either for them very unusual. My spaghetti squash baked ziti was very crunchy and short rib ramen so salty it tasted like table salt. My husband had short rib ramen and had like hardly any short rib. Very disappointing. We are very good cash tippers too! Haven't had that bad of service in a long time anywhere and we are bar eaters. Love to eat at the bar! Normally the best service. Sorry for the bad review but it was the only way to get it across. I tried looking for email. I'm not a caller sorry. The Cesar salad was drenched with dressing, the nachos came out with barely any toppings with cold movie theater cheese sauce, and to top it off the floppiest pizza you'll ever eat. I want to love it, and from the outside, I do. But when it comes down to it, there are so many issues. First, the time it takes to get standard menu orders. With reservations, once you order you can expect to easily wait 45-60 minutes for your food to come to the table. Just basic others straight off the menu. Secondly, the prices are really ridiculous. $30 for a bowl of mediocre Ramen? I go to really great authentic ramen places and a special bowl with extras is $18 tops. The price for simple American fare is 2x what it should be, for standard portions. The mocktails cost pretty much the same as the alcoholic drinks. Desserts will break the bank. Third- the inability to make changes to your plate. You can subtract items but not add anything. Kind of strange. And lastly.. The food, when you finally get it and hope it lives up to price and time it took to come your way, is just ok. Best thing on the menu is probably the overpriced pizza and nachos. The rest honestly just ok. For the time and the price, it should be knocking your socks off, but it simply does not. It has potential, but it needs so much work. read more

Today was my second visit. The food here is amazing. The seasonal jam crostini with fruit compote, whipped ricotta, prosciutto and hot honey is amazing. This is what it means when foodies talk about layers of flavor. I also had the ceasery waffle fries. OMG crasar salad with brined chicken breast tender chunks over waffle fries. They have their own pastry chef and it's evident, the carrot cake is the most delicious decadent dessert that I've ever had. First time here and it was for my brother's birthday. We were seated right on time, do make a reservation, the place totally full on a Friday night. Ordered drinks -- beer and wine. Again efficient. Ordered appetizers of fried calamari and nachos. Nachos were delicious, but could have used a bit more guac. I ordered the veggie burger with a side salad. Both were very good. My second time here in mere weeks and once again, excellent dishes all around. Opted for the boneless chicken tenders which were on the mark. My fellow diners enjoyed the Short Rib Ramen bowl, the Birdie Gurdy and the vegan Stake B. Needless to say, when the waiter came to collect our plates they were empty. Although we live only 15 mins away we had forgotten about Blackie's Bulldog Tavern. Then, while driving by the new Blackie's we decided we would try it; happy that we did. We may have been fortunate going on July 4th weekend as it was not terribly busy. The parking lot is sizeable but about 1/2 seemed to be dedicated valet. We were seated at a table that was directly under a powerful a/c flow. After asking if we could move to one of the two empty tables nearby our server checked with the host and said it was fine. Later, even though there remained an empty table (of the two), another couple was seated at our original table. One of the couple immediately put on a jacket. So, bring something warm... it was mid-eighties outside. To the food: we started with caprese crostini which was sizeable and delicious. Three or even four people could enjoy this dish as an app, while one or two could probably be satisfied with it as a course (Tapas style). For entrees, we enjoyed the "seared, Verlasso salmon" and "your favorite carnitas". Both were excellent, creative and full of taste explosions. For dessert we shared carrot cake. The cake was more like bread which worked well, likely by design, as it was stacked on the plate with a layer of vanilla ice cream in between. It was large - too much for two of us to finish - and very yummy! We will definitely return. read more

Blackies is phenomenal! All of their food is fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere is great. I love that they have the Clean Livin' menu as well which makes it so much easier for those with allergies, dietary restrictions, someone following a strict diet, or even picky eaters. We liked it here a lot since members of our party had a lot of food restrictions, and there were tons of gluten free and vegan and vegetarian options. The wait staff were super friendly too and service was great. The decor was funky - black and green in a retro cocktail lounge style - which felt more suited to a speakeasy after midnight. We didn't love that aspect. The menu suggested more of a home-town diner and didn't match the decor at all. But I didn't mark down for that as that is just preference. read more

I like the new location with renovations. Really nice vibe and layout. This is a very popular establishment with tons of regulars that frequently dine here. Good menu but can be a challenge to read thru it all and it looks like they have seasonal menu offerings. The server we had was good and attentive. My short rib fettuccine was lacking in flavor. I couldn't really pickup on the truffle oil. But I can see the oil coating on the whole dish.there was a lot of oil on the bottom of the dish. Weird that it was oily but the dish tasted kind of dry. And I couldn't believe it was flavorless. I had to shake the crap out of the salt and pepper shakers to add a bit of flavor. I found it hard to eat, barely ate half. The half fish and half shrimp and chips was decent, Cole slaw had the texture like it was in the food processor. Hand cut fries was good. We've been wanting to try this place but it's always super busy on the weekends! Definitely reserve a table because the last time we came on a Saturday the wait was an hour. Hate to be a Karen because I loved Blackies but we had an inexcusable experience on Friday. Our dear friend was recently widowed, so we were taking her out for a nice dinner on what would be her wedding anniversary. Our other friend flew in from South Carolina to join us. We chose Blackies for the occasion. Food was good as always, but the good ends there. A table of about 12 was seated next to us and they were so loud and obnoxious. They ordered rounds of drinks and shots and announced one was becoming a grandparent, even presenting the pee stick as proof right at the table. The screaming gave us headaches and we couldn't even hear each other at our table. We could not have a conversation and our service went downhill with all the waitress' attention being demanded by the obnoxious table of 50-60 year old party animals. We complained to the front desk and they were apologetic, but didn't offer to let us move. We finally just wanted to leave. We couldn't talk at all or enjoy our meals, were getting ignored by our waitress, and were just so irritated by the nonstop screaming crowd right next to us. The waitress presented our check and I asked for a manager. The manager was extremely rude and unprofessional. She said "I heard you asked for a manager so here I am." I asked if they really weren't going to comp anything on our bill after our awful experience. She said "I did everything I could, I asked them to quiet down!" Then she just grabbed our check and walked away irritated without saying anything else. She came back and let us know she comped our 2 beers and our shared chicken tender appetizer. Wow generous. I couldn't believe how rude she was and totally unapologetic. To be fair she didn't know the circumstances of our dinner, but it shouldn't matter. Our experience was awful and my widowed friend was upset. I can't recommend blackies anymore and certainly can't trust it to be a nice spot for a special occasion or sentimental meal. We were appalled by the managers insincerity. Even the waitress just gave up on us, and knocked my wife's dirty silverware onto her lap when we said we just wanted to leave, then she just made a joke about it and walked away. Blackies needs to make sure their staffing is much improved if they want to maintain their current price point. Nobody wants good food if it's in an ugly restaurant with unfriendly service and an inconsiderate manager. read more

I heard about this restaurant from one of my cousins who loves Blackies. I tucked that information away as a Christmas gift idea for her. So two weekends ago, my husband and I made the drive down so that we could have lunch as well as buy the gift certificate. When we walked in we were immediately impressed with the gorgeous space which was beautifully decorated for the holidays. First impressions are everything and we loved look of the restaurant and the festive and thoughtful holiday decor. We were greeted right away by the very friendly hostess and led to a table. We were brought to the left side of the restaurant as you walk in and while this was a lovely room we now wish we had been seated to the right of the entrance...the room with the bar and the open pizza oven kitchen which we thought later (when we took a tour of the rest of the place after we ate) was prettier, more interesting and roomier than where we sat. (There is also outdoor dining for the warmer weather seasons.) We were soon greeted by an extremely nice and very efficient server whose name is Jordan. Kudos to her; she was a delight! We were handed menus...food and drinks. Both menus are fairly extensive with a variety of choices. There is something on the menu for everyone whether you are doing a Whole30, are a paleo eater, keto, or plant-based. I find that approach thoughtful. There is a "kids' menu" although I am not a fan of those. I think children old enough to choose something off a menu should be able to manage eating something that is not "dumbed-down" for them like chicken fingers and grilled cheese. The drink menu is extensive with plenty of interesting cocktails from which to choose as well as a reasonably good wine list. There are both draft and bottled beers and ales included standard brands and some craft. I had a glass of Malbec to start and my husband had a Narragansett beer...an old-school local fave. The wine I chose was just okay; this not the fault of the restaurant at all. But to me despite its description was just a weak wine. I also think the wine pour could have been slightly more generous. I had the sandwich called; "Better than NYC Pastrami which was sous-vide cooked smoked beef pastrami with provolone and Swiss cheeses on ciabatta. My husband got the: "Hi, My Name is Reuben" sandwich which was on marble rye with lean corned beef and all the fixings including what a very tasty sauerkraut. We had a choice of sides; I chose French fries and he chose the house-made chips. After tasting his chips, my husband made the better the selection. They were delicious! Both sandwiches were big! And while I am not sure it was better than NYC pastrami, it was certainly equal to NYC pastrami. The sandwiches were large and quite filling. I ate half of mine and was full to the brim so I happily brought the other half home with me. The dessert list looked great but we are not huge dessert eaters plus we were full. As soon as we were done eating, I told my husband I couldn't wait to return to try some of the many other delicious sounding menu items. Of note: the bathrooms are very clean and were also beautifully decorated. My husband dutifully reported back on the men's room which he gave a thumbs up to. I am sure with additional visits under my belt this will rise to a 5-star experience. I will also remember to ask for seating on the opposite side of the restaurant. read more

Food is good but it competes with its own prices. At the end of the day it is your average tasting American fare/cuisine. Everything really is what you would expect, except $18 burgers, $12 buffalo chicken dip etc., which makes for an unbalanced food quality/cost ratio. If someone else is paying you will truly enjoy almost everything they offer. Its hard to explain; in short, would be the same feeling if you got taken to a fine upscale, expensive Italian dining establishment then on your way out saw they ordered all the food from Olive Garden. read more

The new location is really stylish inside. Like really stylized stylish. The women's restroom has crystal drop pendant lights and a pink wooden vanity. The dining tables to the left of the entranceway seem to be of a manufactured wood plank, stained dark. The other side of the restaurant, to the right of the entryway, with lime green banquettes, has a large and inviting bar to sit at, and there seemed to be a third space to dine - more bar seating by the pizza ovens. Bar seating is the new stylish thing. The menu is innovative ( and my burger was delicious) but it felt like they were working hard to make it fun and different and "stylish" that it was really hard to read and interpret. Our waitress needed to explain how one burger differed from the next since we couldn't actually tell from reading the menu. Would you know - without more detail - what a "breakfast" burger is, beyond having a fried egg on top? My turkey burger was moist, juicy, quite tasty too. The house made chips that come standard were crispy, fried just right and extra special super salty; in other words, freaking perfect. And, while slightly off my regular path of travel, this was a great place to meet friends for lunch. Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and just the right amount of attentive. We had coffee after (in, of course, stylish stainless steel cups) that tasted good. Good coffee isn't always a given in a place that focuses on quality from scratch cooking. Really great food and nice atmosphere if you can get a table. There are really crowded periods of time so try it in the off-hours. They messed up my large takeout order and not only comped it, but gave us a gift card so definitely turned around a lousy situation. Too many restaurants come up short when they ruin someone's evening so it's great to see that the staff here is trained to be more elevated than your typical restaurant. ...and guess what? since then we've placed large orders again and again even though we have our choice of several great places. read more
