On a Saturday morning, placing an order through their app seemed like the sensible way to bypass any friction. The app indicated when the drink would be ready, so I walked over at the appointed time. The coffee was not ready. Delay is understandable when a counter is slammed, but this location was nearly empty. Despite the lack of a crowd, the operation felt surprisingly frantic and disorganized. Staff members moved around with various tickets, but nobody seemed entirely sure which step of the process was currently underway. The app ordering did not save time. It simply gave me a reason to stand inside a small storefront and watch the confusion unfold. Eventually, I received my Flat White. Having ordered Flat Whites in plenty of coffee shops over the years, I have a fairly dependable baseline for comparison. Blank Street's version fell well below it. It lacked any real espresso depth, tasting mostly like warm, diluted milk. It was also comically small, looking less like a standard cup and more like a beverage that had shrunk in the wash. Coconut cream, horchata, cinnamon, honey, sea salt, and vanilla bean. I found I didn't like the cinnamon in it as it got "gritty" especially towards the end no matter how much I stirred it. We were out of town to visit NY. Before we left our visit, we decided to visit on a Saturday, June 21st. We were close by a Blank Street. When we arrived at 2:58pm, the door was surprisingly locked even the hours for this location said it closed at 3:30pm on a Saturday. Two other bystanders were disappointed as well and made a comment why they were closed. The male employee inside saw several people open the door, but he kept cleaning. It's not until I started taking pictures that the employee opened the door and said, "why are you guys waiting outside?" And I replied, "because the door was locked." He acted aloof. And then he said to us and everyone that came in after us that he had basic flavors. I personally didn't believe anything he said. We decided to make the walk to another Blank Street located on 830 3rd Avenue. This employee definitely wanted to go home early. I won't return to this establishment. read more

There's no shortage of coffee shops in Midtown East - in addition to the multitude of Buxes, there are several smaller chains in the area. While I usually rotate the three Buxes that are near my office, one of my colleagues pointed out that they recently discovered Blank Street Coffee and really enjoyed their beverages. That being said, we decided to take a walk over one morning to get some caffeine. This specific Blank Street isn't too large - walking in theres a small area for ordering and pick-up with a few tables along the perimeter. The traffic flow isn't the best, it was crowded and a little difficult to navigate - I can only imagine if it was packed. The decor was kinda minimal with bright colors on the walls and touches of color throughout - very typical of a contemporary coffee spot. The menu isn't too large - while they have the standard coffees and teas, they also have some matcha beverages - all presented in a very clean aesthetic. I decided to go with their cold brew and had some half and half added; my go-to is usually coconut milk but they didn't carry it - boo. The drink was good - the coffee was super smooth and didn't have that hint of bitter that I'm used to. Service was good - my beverage was ready within the promised time. Overall, I had good experience at Blank Street Coffee. With a convenient app and a prime location, I can see why this is a popular spot.
