"Meh. I've experienced better." ~yelp for a 2 star review Yep, that slogan is definitely how i feel about this place. Its new and looks cool, modern, and hip. But when I saw the pizza someone else had in front of them when i walked in, i knew i was in for trouble. I really wanted to give this place a chance but seeing how they make your pizza almost exactly like they would make a toasted sandwich at Subway or Chipotle, what could i expect? I ordered their version of the meat lovers called the meat eater. Had pepperoni, onion, cheese, and meatball. Meatball which i thought was weird, i usually like my pie with pepperoni and sausage but whatever. When I had received my pizza fresh out of the oven it looked good, a bit burnt on the outside edges of my pizza, but when I had my first bite (and through the last bite) my impression was ehhh... dough was soft and something in taste was lacking. I even tried getting crushed peppers and adding more parmesan cheese but none of it helped. It was just one bland bite after another. My stomach literally left Blaze feeling the same going in and asking my brain "when are we going to eat" I think its safe to say I wont return again to this place. I'd rather drive to Larchmont area for Village Pizzeria or all the way to Grimaldis in Vegas (or even Brooklyn!) before I have another pie from Blaze. read more

The idea here is fantastic. Personalized woodburning oven-baked pizzas, served in a personalized size. Because the crust is thin, and the oven is hot, each one doesn't take too long to make. You're making a healthy, fast, cheap (each pizza is like $7), delicious food option. And that's certainly what everyone in pasadena thinks also, apparently. When we were here, they ran out of pizza dough at 7PM (it closes at 9PM). That's crazy! So, in theory, wonderful. In practice? Could use a little work. Perhaps it's because it's new (and all the employees are new), the assembly line ran like it horse-drawn buggy over gravel: it choked and bumped and rumbled its way through. You got all your toppings, but it's definitely not as beautiful to watch as other assembly lines, like Chipotle for example. Credit to the staff however, there are a TON of toppings. One other fault? The pizzas could use a bit longer in the oven. Ours was definitely undercook, with a soft soggy crust. It resembled more a pita than a pizza that's been in a woodburning oven: ie crispy and crunchy. I kept hearing good things about this place, and finally the hubby and I had a chance to try it out. It was delicious! The pizza is made to order so if you don't like it - that is YOUR fault for picking the wrong toppings. No, really. It is $8 for unlimited toppings - but buyer beware: the more toppings you put the soggier your pizza will be. If you keep it relatively light on the toppings the crust is an awesome crispy thin-crust. The signature pizzas can have anything added to them. So just because you asked for the "White Pizza" doesn't mean you have to stick to the specified toppings. The price of the signature pizzas is the SAME as design your own - so go crazy customizing. The pizzas come out FAST! It is awesome. The staff is friendly and come around to make sure everything is okay and will clear your plates and trash if they see that you've finished your pizza and are waiting for your slow-eating-friends to finish. The restaurant is clean and the ingredients look and taste fresh. I think this is important, I hate the thought of eating food that has been sitting out for God-knows-how-long. First off, the pizza. It's good. Great crust, fresh ingredients, and I would highly recommend the spicy marinara sauce. If this was just got the pizza, I would give them all the stars in the star universe, cause it's that solid and the price is right. Here's where they started losing me. Upon walking in we were instantly greeted, which is always solid, especially in the food industry. There were, no joke, 11 people behind the counter on a Monday, at 3pm. I'm going to assume it was the mid day shift change, but it was seriously overwhelming. This place is really good. You walk in and decide if you want to build your own pizza or choose one of their specialties. I always do the BYO. they have a big variety of toppings to choose from. All types of meats, veggies, and other stuff (Like garlic and what not). Then they put it in this magical oven which makes verything delicious! This place is affordable and really really good. I love it. Only reason I take off a star is because the service is eh. It also gets really crowded, which is fine, but they don't have a lot of seating. My friends love this place, so they took me for a late-night bite last night. I decided to order a Green Stripe, while they, the seasoned pros, had customized orders. First off, let me say that this is now my favorite pizza chain. With so many options, quick service, and tasty results, I now understand why they rave so much about it. I will definitely be back! I deducted one star because when we went their vegan cheese had pieces of mozzarella in it. It was understandable because they had just served a huge rush. The staff member by the cheese warned my friend of this and offered to bring out a fresh batch. So they were definitely proactive about cross-contamination. I usually get the Red Vine [parmesan, and ovalini, tomato, basil, and classic red sauce with olive oil at the end], but sometimes I get a little extra, like garlic, pepperoni, etc. The Red Vine, along with the other signature pizzas, are the same price as the build-your-own pizzas, so if you're in a rush, get a signature pizza. I suggest the best time to go would be on a Sun - Thurs, especially if you eat at night. I tried to go on a Friday and Saturday before and hahaaaa, NOPE. Long lines. The reason why it takes so long is because people get picky about what they want on the pizza, so those complaints about long waits? Blame the people in front of you, and blame yourself for getting mad about wanting to eat at the most delicious pizza place ever on a popular night out. For example, I am SO relieved when my boyfriend and I go and no one is behind us, because he likes ALL the different meats on the pizza. I just came here for the second time. My first time was a couple months ago, and my sister and I fell in love with it. I was craving a Hawaiian Pizza but I wanted a customized one.. so my sister, an out-of-town friend and I came here. I'm not a fan of pizza, but maybe I have never eaten good pizza before. My girlfriend said I should try this place and that's what we did. When we walked in, I thought we would have to get a table but nope, it's just like another Chipotle. We were holding at one of those to-go menus and a lady behind the counter asked us if it was our first time. She explained to us how it worked and we both got the build it yourself pizza. Unlike Chipotle, you can get anything, with no extra charge. That's the best thing here. I live down the street from Blaze. It took me 6 months after moving before making it into the place. I just assumed it was a common pizza joint. It turns out it's not just a run of the mill pizza joint. I. Love. Their. Pizza. The concept is great. An amazing array of every ingredient you could want on a pizza. Then you go down the line adding what sounds tasty. and in the end: A fantastic pizza pie. BUT where Blaze goes even more right is the staff. The attitude of everyone working is positive, upbeat, and they never, never, NEVER make you feel bad (or stupid, or stingy) asking for a little extra of an ingredient here and there. In particular, there's a classy dude named Andrew. That guy has surprised me with professional kindness every single time I go in. He's offered me a glass for water while I wait for my pizza to cook, he's asked me how my day was going, he recognized me from the week before. And the guy is genuine. What an all-star. read more

Good pizza, great options, super-fast baking time, friendly employees... Not too many complaints from me. I was real happy with our experience at Blaze... Parking was easy as we found a spot on Colorado & we didnt have to feed the meter as it was done for the night. Blaze is located on Colorado across the side street from Roy's. When we first walked in I was a little overwhelmed as it was quite busy for a Wednesday night and the options for toppings on your pie are limitless. The nice gentleman making my pie told me I can choose from their signature topping combinations and have half one and the other a different one. Since it was my first time there, I took his advice. I went with half meat eater (pepperoni, crumbled meatballs, mozz, red onions with the standard red sauce). The other half I chose bbq chicken (grilled chicken, mozz, gorgonzola, red onion, peppers & bbq sauce). I liked both sides. They were great flavor combinations. The crust was nice and crunchy thin at the very ends but still soft towards the middle. It took about 3-5 minutes and both our pies were done. I was shocked how fast they called my name to let me know our pies were ready. You gotta also have the blood orange lemonade. Good good stuff! I really liked it. Service was great and with a smile. Staff members even offered to refill my lemonade for me as they made their rounds cleaning the tables. I liked that, even though I politely declined so I could do it myself. So, I have since revisited Blaze Pizza thanks to some free pizza coupons to give the another shot. I will say I might end up being a defector from a long standing lover of Pizza Rev and here's why: THE DOUGH: Their gluten free dough is FRESH and they press it in the pizza presser like the other pizzas. And when they cook it right it's absolutely delicious. THE FLAVOR: They even out the toppings on your pizza and seem to strategically place them for the best mix of flavor. At first I thought they were being chintzy but now I get it. I hit my pizza up with sea salt and basil topping for a welcomed burst of flavor. THE LEMONADE: Can we talk about this crackalicious Blood Orange Lemonade though? Seriously, it's so good if you're not careful you will fill yourself up just on lemonade before the pizza is out of the oven. So as you see Blaze Pizza is slowly but surely growing on me. I still struggle with their cross contamination issues and get sick sometimes. The employees at some locations dont quite grasp the gluten free concept. At some locations I have intruct the employees to change their gloves or use uncontaminated sauce/utensils on my pizza which they should have in seprate bottles and equipment. Pizza Rev takes this so seriously I literally never get sick there right now at Blaze I get sick about 60% of the time still. I've already made some suggestions to the Coporate office. So I have to give the credit to my friend for telling me about Blaze. She kept saying how amazing the pizza is, so I had to give it a try for myself. I let her create my pizza because her pizza looked amazing. From what I remember she did the original sauce & the garlic sauce, no meat, and we filled the pizza with toppings. From fresh basil, to olives, to artichokes, tomatoes, Parmesan, mozzarella cheese, and a few other toppings. I mean it was amazing. The cool part is you can put as many toppings as you desire and then pizza is less than $10! Well worth every penny. I came here for dinner with a friend to grab a quick bite before heading over to the Pasadena Playhouse for our show. Its quite convenient since it is so close to the playhouse. And you won't have to worry about your food coming late because the pizzas bake pretty fast! This place is basically a version of 800 degrees. You walk up to the line, tell them whether you want a signature pizza or to build your own. If you build your own, you'll walk down the counter (like subway and chipotle) telling them what sauce and toppings you want on your pizza. Its one price for all build your own pizzas, so 1 topping or 10 toppings is still the same price. Once you're done ordering, they put your pizza into the giant oven to bake. They'll call your name and you can pick it up once its done. I like that the pizza crust is so thin, so you don't get so much carbs. One pizza has 6 big slices. It was wayyy to big for one meal, so I ended up taking half of it back for my next day's lunch. Overall, pretty good. Blaze is right around the corner from my workplace so my friend whisked me away to have lunch there. We ordered the red vine pizza and antipasto salad. After 3 slices each, we could barely finish the salad. We had to save room for the s'mores pie! Pizza had a thin crust, we asked for regular tomato sauce but then added dollops of spicy sauce - it turned out to be too saucy for the crust. We added red pepper flakes and it added just the right amount of heat. I was so satisfied after our meal. The salad was great - fresh ingredients.. nice dressing. I could probably eat just that on a day where I'm feeling a little more green than red. Blood orange lemonade yum! S'mores pie isn't cakey like I thought it'd be. You can choose to do a 1 topping pizza or simple pie of 2 kinds of cheese and their red sauce for a cheaper price than their unlimited topping option. Their selection of toppings was a fair amount. I had a bite of the Green Stripe and thought it was pretty good. I had a custom pizza for myself with the white cream sauce, ricotta & feta cheese, pepperoni, Italian meatball, spinach, olives, chopped garlic, basil, oregano, topped with olive oil which I thought was delicious. This is actually a great restaurant to have a quick bite, or just sit and do some work while grabbing some delicious pizza that you will orchestrate yourself. *cue symphony* The best way to have your Blaze pizza is simply to go with the 'Build Your Own' where you can pick up to 3 meats/cheeses and unlimited amount of veggies of your choice. They have 3 different sauces (Classic, BBQ and Pesto). Any extra meat/cheese will cost an extra $1 and they will offer a Gluten Free crust for an additional $3. The stone oven cooks the pizza in less than 2 minutes, so it is actually very quick service and turnaround at this place. You probably spend more time directing what you want on your pizza, than waiting for the pizza to cook. They also offer pre-packaged salads, and I have so far only tried the Roasted Veggie & Gorgonzola which was decent, but not remarkably awesome as in gourmet-type of RV&G sallad. I wish they would offer some crutons but as for now, you only get a vinaigrette dressing (which is a bit too vinegary for my taste). Considering that you can put unlimited amounts of veggies on your 'prix fixe' pizza, Blaze Pizza is certainly worth a try and will surely blaze up your appetite for a repeated visit. read more

I think this is a great lunch spot. So far I've been here twice and tried the meat eater pizza with mushrooms instead of onions. It was very good. As others have noted, you stand in line like at Subway and the pizza is prepared in front of you. My friend and I both thought that they didn't apply enough sauce and cheese when we saw the girl preparing our pizza but after we tasted it, we realized we had misjudged her sauce and cheese portioning skills. It was fast and good pizza. The caesar salad I ordered was just meh. The price of the pizza is right on, however. The pizza is a little large to eat all in one sitting, even for my thunder thigh self. The one negative I found about this place is just a personal thing. It seemed to be very, very loud inside. While in line to order, I couldn't hear my friend bc the radio was too loud. When we sat in the only table available, it was in the corner and it felt as though all the noise was amplified into that small recessed wall. Not a good thing for someone with noise sensitivity. Overall, the food is tasty and priced right. Buy a book from Vroman's and read it while eating at Blaze (be sure to sit outside though, in order to be able to concentrate on your book). read more

The rare occasion where a place lives up to the hype... and then exceeds it. If I could give 4.5 stars I would. Definitely ranks at a "best in class" in my book, but just shy of 5 stars. I would qualify this as "California" style pizza, not thick like Chi, or thin and greasy like NYC... Starting with the crust, exceptionally proportionate and consistent. Also very impressed with their ability to maintain consistency. Sauces are very well seasoned and exceptional in quality. Cheese blends are excellent. Toppings... this is where it gets interesting I had - salami, pepperoni, sausage, Canadian bacon, meatball, fresh basil, cherry tomatoes, artichoke, and 1/2 kalamata olive on half and banana pepper on the other half. Then after baking (for 3 minutes at about 550-600 degrees) drizzled with pesto... WOW!!! I really wish I could give this place 5 stars, but while high quality, it doesn't quite reach that stratospheric place for me... but quite possibly as close to 5 stars as a pizza joint can get. I live for build-your-own foods that have one single cost. Especially of the pizza kind. Blaze is the second custom pizza place I've been to, the first being Pieology. And while I absolutely love Pielogy as well, there's currently a slight lean towards Blaze because I like that their topping choices more. Some of the stuff I like putting on my pizza are ovalini mozzarella, arugala, spinach, and garlic. Ugh. Mouth watering as we speak. The environment is loud but definitely fun. It's a great place to grab dinner with friends or family in Pasadena, and it's an amazing price considering the choices you get to make. I saw a couple of plain pepperoni pizzas coming out and I'm not sure if they were just for kids, but if you're a grown adult coming here just for pepperoni pizza then idk what's wrong with you. Minus one star for the hectic environment. The line stretches outside of the store during peak hours, and it's very hard to hear your orders over the plethora of customers, employees running back and forth, loud music, and moving chairs. I wish they'd utilize a table number service instead like Pieology (I know, I know, stop comparing! But I love them both, leave me alone) or a buzzer to go pick it up because it'd definitely improve the speed by a lot. Tip: you can order online if you want to speed things up a little. Also, if the lines are really long, PLEASE do yourself and all the other customers a service by taking a look at the menu and writing down what you want before getting to the ordering station. I really like the ingredients I put on my pizza. I got the spicy red sauce with Italian sausage, ham, bacon, spinach, onion, jalapeño, and roasted red peppers. It was spicy and delicious. Love how the pizza comes out fast. These pizzas are much thinner than some of the other pizza places I've been to. read more

Love the pizza here. It holds together better than Pieology's. They have a selection of premade pizzas you can choose from but I always go with the Build Your Own. Unlimited toppings for $7.95! In my opinion one pizza could feed two. The line could go out the door during peak hours, but it moves pretty fast. Customer service here is merely okay. One thing that I hate is that they ask you what you want before you get there. For example, they always ask me what veggies I want when I'm still at the meat section because of the long line ahead of me. I like seeing the ingredients before deciding if I want it on my pizza. Also, this one girl messed up my order twice on two different occasions! She asked if I wanted pesto, I said yes, but she proceeded to put BBQ sauce all over my pizza.
