The only complaint I have about Smokey Lips BBQ is that I can't get it whenever we want it, which isn't really a complaint, but a compliment! But in this era, it's a nice reminder that good things take time, and some gems are meant to be savored whenever you have the chance. We ordered directly from the printed menu. I chose the brisket, which clearly states it comes with two sides, planning on baked beans and a baked potato. My mom ordered the baby back ribs with mac & cheese. When we placed the order, our server apologized and told us they had changed the menu, but not what's actually printed. Apparently, you no longer get to choose sides... everything now automatically comes with mashed potatoes and "mixed veggies," with no option to swap or upgrade. That was confusing, especially since the sides we wanted were available and could be ordered separately for an extra charge. Even if you add on a baked potato, you still get mashed potatoes and veggies no matter what. It just felt unnecessarily rigid and poorly communicated. On top of that, we were served Diet Cokes by another server, and on the very first sip we both immediately knew it was regular Coke. When we mentioned it, our server said he "didn't think so" but would check. It was a small thing, but frustrating--especially right after being told we couldn't order what was clearly listed on the menu. Eventually, after asking again, we were brought a can of Diet Coke, which solved it, but the hesitation felt odd. 2 cans for $7.90? Not even enough ice to stay melted. Was all just annoying. When the food arrived, it looked fine. The brisket itself was good, but it wasn't the meal I wanted or ordered. Plus EXTREMELY fatty. One piece was more fat than meat. I expect some on brisket but not The Who fat cap as a piece to be served. Also, the "mixed veggies" weren't what was described (green beans and carrots), but instead squash and zucchini. Overall, nothing was terrible (maybe the mandatory squash), but the combination of an inaccurate menu, inflexible substitutions, and small service issues made the night disappointing. I don't think I'll be back, which is a shame, because this was meant to be a special birthday dinner and just didn't live up to the moment. Had my siblings been with I'm sure they would've stormed out yelling at so they are lucky they got the nice ones in the family... but, my mom deserves a refund.

My previous review has been removed. I visited this establishment on 8/25/23 As residents of Rancho Mirage, my partner and I were eager to try the newly opened Blazing King BBQ & HOTPOT. However, our visit took a turn for the worse, leaving us deeply disappointed. I recently visited Blazing King BBQ & HOTPOT in Palm Desrt, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. While the initial wait time for seating was reasonable for a party of two, the service that followed was truly disappointing. Upon being seated, the decline in our experience became apparent. Despite being seated ahead of a party of six, we were left waiting with menus in hand, without any acknowledgment from the staff. Even as the table of six near us was promptly attended to and had their orders taken, my party was left unattended for over 20 minutes. Adding to the frustration, the lack of water or even basic courtesy during the wait was noticeable. What stood out most was the restaurant's policy regarding gratuity for larger parties, which seemed to influence the waitstaff's priorities. The table of six, subject to an automatic 19% gratuity, received immediate attention, while our table of two was overlooked. The menu indicated that a 19% gratuity would automatically be applied to parties of six or more. This appeared to influence the waiter's priorities, as the larger group received immediate attention, leaving us wondering about the fairness of the service. Even more disappointing was the waiter's apparent selective engagement. Despite making eye contact, the waiter neglected to approach our table, leaving us without answers to questions or guidance on ordering. After 20 minutes of patiently waiting, we reluctantly made the decision to leave and informed the hostess of our choice to dine elsewhere. Regrettably, the lack of concern from the staff upon our departure was disheartening. As residents who were excited to support a new addition to our city's dining scene, our experience left us with no intention of returning to Blazing King BBQ & HOTPOT. In contrast, our go-to spot, YouGrill in La Quinta, consistently delivers outstanding service and a more enjoyable dining experience. The disappointment of this visit only solidifies our preference for establishments that prioritize customer satisfaction. In conclusion, the lackluster service, unequal treatment of tables, and overall disregard for our experience at Blazing King BBQ & HOTPOT left us with a negative impression. As much as we wanted to support a local venture, we cannot recommend this restaurant to others seeking a satisfying dining experience. read more

Food- 10/10 they're new but already 1000 times better than the one in la Quinta. they have a large variety and two menus to choose from one premium and one original we chose the premium and we are not disappointed we got the lamb, wagyu steak and brisket which we ordered 3x lol so good. I especially enjoyed the Korean cheesy corn. Service- 10/10 our server cassie was very attentive, she kept our glasses full and our tummy's full what more can you ask! She also gave us soju bombs because of the opening. First time trying we enjoyed it. --This is also why I'm giving a review we love complimentary soju! We went here and let me tell you this place is amazing! We were surprised when a friend told us that there was a hotpot and grill place in the desert, so of course we had to go check it out. The place has black walls with led blue lights inside of the place, it was very light as it had some normal lights on the ceiling. The service is great, we had 4 people and two more was on the way and we asked if they could sit next to us and her was skeptical at first but made an exception and said we could all be there for 45 minutes as there is a 90 min limit. Also, everyone here is really kind and understanding. The food here is fresh and tasty. They have a salad/noodle bar and a sauce bar as well. Definitely coming back in the future!! read more

From the moment we were seated, Jazmin made the entire experience feel personal and special. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure every detail was perfect. Stepping into this restaurant felt like entering a nightclub, with fluorescent lights lining the walls. The space is divided into two sections, with plenty of room for larger groups, making it ideal for gatherings. Our group opted for the hot pot experience, and we were blown away by the variety--especially the fresh, crisp selection of vegetables. However, I always drive by China Wok in Palm Desert so I thought I'd give them a try. I ordered asparagus chicken using their online app. They texted me with the approximate time that my order would be done which was really nice and then another text came in saying that it was done. The entrée was very delicious and hot. A little bit on the oily side and the portion was on the small side for $20. The only issue I have is I won't be ordering online anymore. They charge a fee of $1.90 just use the app. And didn't tell you in advance. I will be going there again, but I will just call in my order.

But the food makes up for it. The pineapple fried rice is as good as it gets. Best of all, it's served inside a carved-out halved real pineapple -- great for presentation and flavor! The sweet and sour pork is prepared perfectly and the sauce is just how it should be. Another hit is the string bean chicken. The beans are perfectly cooked -- not mushy but crispy and the sauce if flavorful. The chicken is cooked to perfection. We have more to explore here and will keep coming back. Only downside foodwise was a ho-hum wonton soup. We ordered a full bowl and sadly only got two mediocre wontons. Only two! And the broth is overloaded with cabbage. If it were "cabbage soup" it would've made sense. The other dishes still make up for it and earn this gem a full five stars.

We ordered too late so takeout was the only option. We tried the ribeye and salmon combo as well as the chicken and shrimp hibachi combo. We also ordered a Dynamite roll, California and a Shrimp Tempura roll. The hibachi items were okay. We were hungry and it seemed to fit the bill. The salmon was a bit salty and the ribeye was a little dry. The shrimp was fine but the chicken was a little bland. You get a white spicy sauce with it, unsure if you drizzle or dip. It didn't add much more flavor, just a little kick. The rolls were standard. The Dynamite sounded so appealing with the soy rice paper, but overall it was average. The white spicy sauce was drizzled over it plus the Dynamite is already a spicy roll to begin with, so be forewarned. For the chef to have lived in Japan and have extensive experience in Japanese restaurants, the expectation was a bit higher. Our whole order was $82 but they do add a surcharge which is the cost to pay with your credit card. Side note: It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine when businesses charge you this fee bc to me it's their cost of doing business. Businesses never used to do this, but seemed to have pivoted to this after covid. They should just build it into the cost of the food. Anyway, overall this place was a good change of pace for the offerings in Palm Desert, but unsure if I would return here.
