I've driven by this place so many times in the past five years after I moved to the OC and every time I wondered why this place hasn't gone out of business yet. I can't believe that old Vietnamese people actually eat here. Is it a club? Is it a bar lounge? Is it a restaurant? I am confused. In my mind, the food tastes so bad that I believe that they should rename it Bleu Dancing and Restaurant. Come to dance, not to eat. So, we ordered pho, bun thit nuong cha gio, grilled salmon rice, and steak. I didn't try the latter two dishes, so I can only tell you about the first two. My pho broth was so bland that I had to dump in a lot of hoisin sauce. The noodles were overcooked, it stuck on to each other and compiled into a big chunk. Being a Vietnamese restaurant and serving pho on the menu, they totally disregard the other kind of greens besides basil leaves and sprouts. I was so disappointed. I did not finish my pho and had to stuff myself with sushi afterwards. On the other hand, the boyfriend loved his bun thit nuong cha gio (charcoal grilled pork and egg roll vermicelli). I noticed a sign outside saying that the Pho Dac Biet was 50% off so I wanted to make sure that it was available for lunch and not late night dining since this was the one I was wanting anyway. The girl confirmed that it indeed was available at lunch time so I got #14 -- pho dac biet with everything in it. Our meal arrived pretty quickly. I liked how the broth was piping hot (hate lukewarm broth) and served in a ceramic bowl (hate hate hate plastic bowls) and the broth was not greasy! It also had a good anise taste to it. The pho itself was a tad overcooked -- a little too soft to my liking -- but still not too bad. The broth isn't too strong, a little on the light side but still, flavorful nonetheless. My sister wanted to meet for lunch at Bleu. I wasn't so thrilled as it has only 3-star rating. I was pleasantly surprise that the food was quite good and the price was reasonable too. The cha gio is authentic. The bun cha is better than Ha Noi Avenue. The banh xeo is good and not greasy like other places. The green mango with grilled shrimp salad is very good; the dressing is just right, not too sweet or too sour, very well balanced. The plus point is the lettuce and herbs are dry and not soaking wet like many restaurants out there. Also they give a lot of herbs. Usually I ask for more but not at Bleu. Service is efficient. Came here for lunch and it was a weird experience from the start. This place is definitely a club transformed into a restaurant during the day. You can see everything including the empty dance floor and neon lit bar. As a matter of fact, that's where you pay. They serve pho inadditon to many oter traditional Vietnamese dishes. The service is okay and the "50% off beef pho" only applies to the special, which includes tripe, tendon, etc. I prefer just rare steak so I was not too happy with this. Real crazy vietnamese style karaoke club bar lounge restaurant mixed fusion they have going here. The food is pretty authentic but everything we ordered there was a 50% chance they didn't have it. The inside looks like a club, a nice looking and spacious room which was clean and well lit, but it was surprisingly empty in the afternoon. I have eaten here a few times and the food is decent. Today I ordered com bo luck lac to-go. It was packed with rice, beef cubes, onions, bell peppers and a side of a salad that consists of lettuce, tomatoe slices, and cucumbers slices. I started eating and the the flavor and texture of meat and rice was good. Then I noticed something in the salad. I'm beyond grossed out and shocked. There are metal rods embedded in the tomatoes. After examining with co-workers the consensus was to go back and let the restaurant know for a refund or exchange my food. I don't need a refund and will not be coming back to exchange food. I kept hearing about this place all the time from my friends and I decided to check it out. I was blown away by the people that sang here. So much talent! Karoake is still going on strong for at least 4 years now on Wednesdays I just have to say... I don't know how you can serve cold soggy french fries and burnt ass onion rings for $6 a pop. They all looked so amazing, and all were very pleased with their selections. Comes with a plate of two crispy egg crepes with shrimp, pork, mung bean, bean sprouts, and onions cooked inside. A plate of fresh lettuce and herbs and pickles to be wrapped in a fresh rice paper wrap in which you re-hydrate fresh yourself at the table in a warm bowl of water that they provide for you. All of this to be dipped in a fish sauce reduction. So go ahead, get your hands dirty, it's worth it! I decided on the Korean short rib broken rice plate (about 7 dollars). It's not as big a portion as most places can be, but the price isn't outrageous either. They cut up the ribs to make it easier to manage, with a mound of rice, some iceberg lettuce, and some tomatoes and cucumbers. Drown that bad boy in the fish sauce reduction, and dig in! Last but not least, the fresh shrimp spring rolls that my dad ordered (less than 3 dollars). This is the place for non-English speaking Vietnamese to come, drink, and relax. I used to come here for Wednesday's Karaoke Night for the high entertainment value. Forty year old women singing off key and in broken English to "Total Eclipse of the Heart" while wearing Forever 21 micro mini-skirts is just hot hot hot. Men here are typically alcoholics that sit in the back watching everything through a haze of Dunhill smoke. If someone was a great singer, they wouldn't be here in the first place. I like singing in front of everyone despite how horrible I sometimes sound... but it's fun..
