Arguably one of the best pho places in my opinion. I think this place is older than I am, because I've been coming here since I was a baby! Over all those years, they have never disappointed me and continue to serve really good food. I usually get the beef brisket pho and it's really good. The noodles are just the right texture, the broth is clean and flavorful, and the meat tastes fresh and tender. Their dui bo is also very good, but usually runs out after 1:00 or 2:00 pm, since they only have a limited amount of this item every day. The meat is fall off the bone tender and has a more fatty flavor to it. It usually sits in some broth that absorbs that beefy and fatty flavor from the bone. A great addition to any bowl of pho. Alternatively, I sometimes also get the bun thit nuong and it's very good. The eggrolls it comes with is wrapped with rice paper, so when it's fried up, it has such a satisfying crunch and texture to it. The thit nuong is has a nice smokey, grilled flavor to it. The shrimps are okay as well. This is a very satisfying and filling dish, so if you're looking for a high volume dish, this may be the one to get. Expect long lines during peak hours. I can confirm though that the wait is worth it! Service is always very good. The ambiance on the inside is fine, very plain and unassuming in my opinion. The best pho in OC hands down. Came in Sunday afternoon for lunch, lots of parking but busy! Be prepared for parking and maybe to wait. Put your name on the list hanging outside the door and they will call you when ready! We were sat almost immediately though. Inside is a large scale mom and pop shop that is FILLED with people and workers. We ordered a medium and large #23 pho and 2 waters, we got everything not even 5 minutes later. When I tell you this is the BEST broth I've ever had, it blew me away. I'm not one to usually order extra noodles but for this place I would order as many noodles until I ran out of broth, it is that good. Noodles were on the soggier side, I'm not picky about noodles but if you are then this is something to consider. Portions were huge for the price, very happy with that. CASH ONLY. I've always heard great things about Pho 79, and overall the experience was solid, but with one disappointing miss. The pho itself was really good. The broth had great depth of flavor, and the noodles were cooked perfectly, exactly what you want in a comforting bowl of pho. However, the oxtail I ordered didn't live up to the same standard. It tasted like it had been sitting for a while, dry, overcooked, and a bit mushy instead of tender and rich like you'd expect. It definitely took away from what could've been a great meal. Pho 79 has the best pho in OC. The broth is absolutely incredible. It's a no frills restaurant that's CASH ONLY. There's a decent sized parking lot in the back, so I've never had trouble finding parking. The service is fast and efficient. They typically have your pho on the table for you within 5 minutes of ordering. I also love that they have 3 sizes of pho to choose from. I don't think it's advertised on the menu, but if you don't feel like having the thin vermicelli noodles, you can opt for the flat rice noodles instead. My go-to pho spot pho ever! read more

You really taste the depth of the seasonings, the broth is so clear and light but flavorful with no usual overt "beefiness" or "sweetness" just right. The meat in the combo bowl i ordered was tender but a bit flavorless, even the fatty pieces. Veggies fresh as ever, just wish it had a bit more onion. No chili oil just sriracha and hoisin on the table (maybe i needed to request it?) Definitely worth the price, and optimal they have S/M/L sizing options. What can I say that has not already been validated by the Michelin recognition and the James Beard award. The soup was incredible. The broth was perfectly balanced and carried both the beef and chicken pho beautifully. Every sip felt intentional and deeply flavorful. I sometimes go to pho spots and think maybe I just do not like pho. Then I come back here and realize the issue is not pho, it is the broth. Pho 79 truly sets the standard. Many places cannot replicate this level of depth and balance, and my palate is ruined in the best way possible. The crispy rolls were excellent and perfect for sharing at the table. While their pho is not vegan, it seems possible for a vegan diner to order vermicelli noodles without broth and add tofu. We did not order it, but I always keep an eye out for vegan friendly options for my partner. A heads up that Pho 79 is cash only, and you pay at the register. Been coming here for over a decade... things have changed over the years, including the broth, but it's still better than most new spots. Kind of ridiculous how consistent this place hits. THIS IS THE PHO BOWL TO TRY. (Their other stuff equally delicious, too!) Got the Pho Dac Biet, the broth is still the reason you come here. It's that lighter southern-style broth -- super clean, super flavorful, sweet, not heavy or muddy. You get those small oil bubbles sitting on top doing just enough, not trying to coat your entire existence. All the meats were solid! Tender, flavorful and plentiful the majority of time here. The tendon especially -- straight up melt-in-your-mouth-every-single time! The consistency is ridiculous tbh. I get mine with a side of onions, sate, green onion oil (new?) and mixed with hoisin + sriracha as a dip. I keep the sauces separate from the pho bowl since I enjoy having different bites. Broth, without broth, spoon some sauce mixed with broth etc etc. Remember, there's no wrong way enjoy pho! Service is fast and friendly -- pho came out in under 2 minutes this visit. My dad invited us to lunch since we were visiting for the holidays. He said it was an award winning restaurant so it would be busy! He was not wrong!! First of all, the restaurant is in the back lot of a small strip mall. Parking is very limited considering how busy it was. My dad got his name on the list and we ended up waiting about 25 minutes. We were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant. It sat all 7 of us comfortably. We ordered: 2 small, 2 medium and 1 large bowl of Phở Tái. My dad ordered a medium bowl ò Phở Đặc Biệt. We also ordered an appetizer of spring rolls. The spring rolls came out first (only 2) and I noticed it had a barbecued meat as well as shrimp. It was really good. My daughter ended up eating a whole one and my son and I split the second. The peanut sauce was good too. Our phở came out quickly, too. I thought it was awesome to have 3 different sized bowls. The small ones were perfect for my nieces (7 and 10) and the medium were perfect for my dad, 19 year old nice and myself. The large was perfect for my 18-year old son. The meat to noodles ratio was actually better than most places we have been to. The broth tasted great - flavorful and hot. We added all the veggies and it makes me sad when we don't finish them all. I just want to take home the basil! Our servers were very attentive and helpful. We needed an extra bowl for my younger niece because the broth was just too hot for her. Came to Garden Grove before 10am and thought I was going to have a hard time finding things to eat. But a quick Yelp search and it seems the pho shop I've been meaning to try was opened! In fact, they opened at 7am! I guess it makes a lot of sense since pho was eaten as breakfast when I visited Vietnam. The great thing coming so early? No wait - I just walked right in and got helped right away. According to the staff, the most popular pho was the #33, the Special. Apparently, #32 is the same #33 but it is the medium sized version ($15) of the large ($18.25). After you decide on which pho, the only other questions to answer is whether or not you want raw sliced onions and bean sprouts (cooked or uncooked). I was intending to try the oxtail soup everyone's been raving about. However, I was told there is no oxtail soup till noon. The pho was great, definitely on top with the many places I've tried such as Pholic. The beef in the pho was not fatty, but it wasn't dry. The tripe had a good crunch. The tendon was not too chewy. The broth is good, with notes of cinnamon and anise. The tendon in the pho tái nam gân is buttery, the meat tender, the pho overall very nice, definitely better than whatever is up in the Bay. As for the com bi cha suön nuóng, I wish the accompanying nước chấm was punchier, spicier, sweeter, fishier. The pork chops, too, could maybe use a little more lemongrass. But they were nicely browned and tender. I particularly enjoyed the bì heo; it's fun with the cơm tấm (good texture there too) and with the pickled carrots. read more

I read that lines could be long during lunch but we were in luck and got seated within 5 mins. I made sure to try it before I put anything in there to know how it tastes and it did not disappoint. You can taste the meat broth and the spices in there. Something that also surprised me was the noodles. I think it's a littler thicker than the noodles I usually get, because it was so chewy, the perfect texture! It stayed chewy for a while too which I loved, compared to other places where the noodle becomes soft very quickly. The service was very fast and efficient. I woke up this morning feeling like an ill Victorian child on her deathbed and still showed up for my job at 6am. I knew that I needed a bowl of pho at the end of the day so I stopped by here for dinner! You know a restaurant is good when all the workers speak their native tongue and they're cash only. I've been here countless times and there's almost always a line of at least 5 parties ahead of me, but I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes. They are so quick with it and the pho usually comes out within 5 minutes of ordering. There's usually music playing and today's selection happened to be 90s classics which was the perfect vibe for me! I always get the #25, but they have plenty of combinations depending on what meats you like! I love that their broth tastes authentic and not overly sweet and full of MSG like some other popular pho spots. They're always generous with their veggies and they have different sizes of pho bowls depending how hungry you are. Usually I'll order their thai tea (which is very delicious) but I already had a sweet drink today so I decided to pass on it.
