We went early, and took the toddler. The kids menu has some good realistic things that kids eat. But nothing healthy. It's definitely bar food. We ordered potato skins as an appetizer, the dip is like a chipotle mayo, a little spicy. But good. I had a burger and slaw. I'm usually picky about slaw, but it was crunchy, and sweet, not runny, but enough liquid that it was actually slaw and not a cup of cabbage! I was surprised and pleased. My husband had the wings from the appetizer menu, and I tried one. One word. salt. So much salt! The wings were so salty! It was like they were rolled in salt before they were fried. They did have a lot of meat on them. But they didn't have much flavor except the saltiness. I will stick with the burgers and sandwiches next time. The server didn't seem to know the menu well. She couldn't answer questions. She had to go ask someone every time we had a question. She hadn't tried anything on the menu. The food and drinks were good. The Nachos in particular were a huge portion and really good. It seemed like a fun place if you were wanting that type of night; music, drinking, dancing, etc. The service was slow and we had to hunt down the server several times. We tried to be patient because we understood it was busy but it went on too long. We then sat for while ready to leave and couldn't find the server so my friend went and got the containers for our leftovers. And went looking for her again to get our checks so we could leave. The noise level is high which is understandable because of the type of place it is and we just adjusted by moving outside. This helped with the music but the surrounding groups were really loud and one table appeared to be employees that finished their shift and decided to hang out. They were debating loudly about sex, birth control, and abortions. It was a little awkward. 3.5 It's a little overwhelmingly large. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but it's, certainly, noticeable -- especially if it's not packed to the gills. However, when in a sports bar in Middletown, know what you're getting into. Blind Squirrel delivers on an experience you'd expect... and then does a bit better. Let's go back to the size. Blind Squirrel is part of a larger complex and as baseball season ramps up and the Derby activates the bluegrass, count on lots of great energy. In addition to the large dining room, there's outside seating, upstairs seating, private seating, an amphitheater, volleyball court, pool, giant TVs, and all other manner of sports bar accoutrements. If you're in the mood to watch or play sports, Blind Squirrel has to offer exactly what you're looking for. And then it goes a little further. To begin with, it offers gluten-free pizza! I wasn't, at all, ready for this. Looking over the menu (nicely curated for a sports bar), I was prepared to settle on nachos (which are enormous if not entirely visually appealing) or a salad (which felt way too dainty for the location) when I spied that Blind Squirrel offered gluten-free crust for just $2 more. What? Sold! This was highly unexpected and greatly appreciated. The gluten-free crust allowed me to try the Green Goddess pizza. Since I ordered the g-f crust, it came out on a 10-inch tray, cut into quarters. Y'all, the pizza was really freaking good. It wasn't 'good for a sports bar.' It was good... and imaginative. Walking through the doors, I wouldn't have expected to eat a pizza with a pesto sauce base (complete with pine nuts on the pizza), topped with with artichokes, feta cheese and sun-dried tomatoes. The cheese was a shredded mozzarella-provolone blend that was seasoned, melted well and was pleasingly stretchy. I, gladly, ate the entire thing. But for a lack of gluten-free bread (not complaining, just saying), I would have ordered a sandwich or burger. Both menu options looked very tasty. I am drinking less these days so I had a sweet tea (plenty of refills, never had to ask) but couldn't resist looking over the booze menu. These prices are fantastic! Craft beer drafts for $5. Old standbys for $3. Affordable wines and cocktails. If you're looking to get a drink on, you can do so here and not break the bank. Not only is this great for the wallet but it makes good sense for a venue that pushes high volume and group experiences. Just make sure you come with a designated driver or a rideshare app on your phone. Drunk driving is a bad look. Party responsibly. I found the employees to be very pleasant. My waitress was patient, informative and kind. The hostesses had smiles and welcomed us in to the venue. Passing by waitresses sang along to the 80s videos playing on one of the big screens (and her voice was crazy good). And as we left, the woman putting the specials board together wished us a nice afternoon. None of this was expected and it was all very appreciated. Are you noticing a theme? I'm not much of a sports bar guy these days but if you are or are in the mood for some spring/summer fun, I'd have to imagine that Blind Squirrel should be in your rotation. My nephew had his 18th Birthday and we were invited to the Blind Squirrel for lunch. The venue is pretty cool with outdoor seating and volleyball courts you can watch. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries and a coke. The sandwich was ok, fried piece of chicken with cold buffalo sauce poured on it and the fries were good. Our server was busy and he did his best, but I decided I wanted a bourbon and after 10 minutes of waiting I went to the bar to purchase it myself. The female bartender asked if I was eating at a table, I said yes and they said I would have to get it from my server. They said it was a rule and would not give an exception. In all my years of eating at bars and restaurants I have never heard of this. The excuse was it takes away from the servers total bill which could result in them losing money. For a place to turn down a legal adult from choosing a drink at the bar when there was no wait is ridiculous. I do not go to bars to be told I can't buy a drink at the bar while a couple people are being served right next to me at the bar. People who are going to tip will tip, those who are crappy tippers will remain that way. Our server for our meal was ok and he received more than 20%. My second tip is I will not be back if I can't purchase what I want when I want it when there is no wait to be able to get it. This is not a good practice. This is the second time I eat at Blind Squirrel. I have come twice for a holiday celebration. First they would not take a reservation for a group of 15 at a time when they are clearly not busy. The ambiance is nice with plenty of room, a nice bar with TVs playing both sports and music videos. They accommodated pretty quickly. I highly recommend the pickle fries, crunchy briny deliciousness. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars. It has a nice variety of bar foods. The burgers are great. Can't go wrong with those with classic and Southern gourmet options like pimento cheese and bacon. I ordered the Cuban sandwich. The description said it came on Cuban bread. It was a nice pillowy bun, but it missed the crusty outside that a nice pressed Cuban should have. However it had plenty of pork pulled, not sliced or garlicky, ham and the traditional Swiss cheese, pickle and mustard. To a non Cuban sandwich expert it would be a great sandwich, but there are more authentic Cubans in the city. Last time I came here I had an awesome salad, and this time I decided to splurge on some of their famous Twister Fries. The fries concept was great, a real twist on the steak fries, however mine were cold . Next time I will make a point on asking for fresh hot fries. So, I would recommend the Blind Squirrel and will be back, but next time I will stick to the salads and burgers P.S. Despite the unusual circumstances everyone is facing including service industry workers due to COVID-19 I actually felt "normal" for the first time in a while. Our server was amazing. I've been here for lunch a handful of times and I can definitely recommend the food. Most items have a unique and yummy twist to them (like my chicken salad wrap with a hard boiled egg wrapped in bacon on top!). The pulled pork nachos are amazing and they're cooked on a baking sheet. I wish there were more booths, lots of tables in an open layout. Which is fine, I just like it a little cozier. Pros: Beautiful facility with great potential, good food, prompt and attentive service, a parking lot. Con: Loud beyond belief. Food overpriced. Identity crisis - About 16 TVs with sports no one was watching. Another TV with music videos and a live band. It's too much. The stage was impressive, but the band (Slick Richards) was comically bad. There are much better performers available. A future visit would require a better band, an arrival time of 9:30 or afterwards and a table outside the restroom corridor. The atmosphere is fun, but being questioned about having a mask on while sitting outside drinking a beer, in the blazing hot sun was insulting in that no one said anything to the young patrons who continually walked through the restaurant with no mask. My wife and I decided to stop in here at the blind squirrel on a Sunday evening around 6. I've never heard of the blind squirrel until this week A buddy of mine said that we should go up there and have some drinks listen to some music so I decided to check it out my wife and I went up there. We really enjoyed it it was a good atmosphere very clean very new looking huge TVs all over the place showing the U of L uofk basketball games and the pro football games. One of their TVs is probably the size of my bedroom wall Hits Huge and the other TVs are also about your 50-inch screen everywhere and those were all fun to watch the games on his well I ordered a jalapeno cheddar burger and it was really good came with fries and they were like cool looking season for us and we also got a buffalo chicken dip for an appetizer the price on the appetizers $9 I think that was a little expensive for the quality of the buffalo chicken dip I was a little disappointed in that one to be honest I'd give it a 3 out of 5 Stars. My burger I give a 4 out of 5 really solid good burger fries or to be honest that looks really nice clean people were nice I will go back Holly recommended and I look forward to trying it again read more

OK, reading some of the more recent reviews I would suggest that people are giving this newly opened sports bar a bit of a hard way to go. Considering that this is the opening month for Blind Squirrel, I would say reviewers should be a bit more tempered in their comments. First off, Blind Squirrel is huge. Enormous beautiful space, lots of patio seating. This is likely going to be a go-to spot on this end of town and it should be able to handle the capacity, once they get some kinks worked out. That's simply a training issue for the most part. The Friday night we arrived (8/4/17), I'm fairly certain they really weren't prepared for the crowd. It was a nice evening, and I suspect the word had traveled and the initial reviews were pretty high. They built it and people came. The host/hostess issue needs to be resolved and they need someone that understands table management, it doesn't take 6 people, it really takes one. Too many cooks in the kitchen... The noise is a problem, and some noise-cancelling tile and blocking would help, also turning down the music a bit during the dinner hours would probably be a good idea. They can turn the music up after 9:00 on summer nights. A good sound guy with some knowledge of staging for sound would be a good investment. Our food was very good, although I'd say the chicken tenders were pretty basic, nothing special there. My short rib burger was tasty, as was my son's mac & cheese burger. A bit overcooked for Medium but still pretty juicy. I'd pass on the deep-fried Twinkie in the future and hope they don't run out of the bread pudding as that's generally my first choice for dessert when I have the option. Lastly, our waitress was spot on. Good service on her part. Kept our glasses filled and stopped in to check just enough, even though she had several tables that she was handling. All in all, not a terrible experience, personally, I'd probably attempt to go on a far less crowded evening in the future, but I wouldn't mind trying it again once they get a few things worked out. read more

Went here for the first time to watch the super bowl with some friends and was seated quickly but had to wait on my friends to show up, the server took my drink order and brought it out. Once my friends showed up she came back took they're drink orders and also an appetizer order which came out pretty quickly was watching the game in eventually ordered food when the food came out with our salad which my Cesar salad was warm or room temperature and my hot Brown was Burned or over cooked. The service was great the drinks were great the atmosphere was great place is large ,maybe it just was a bad experience with the first time. We went at 11am on a Thursday. The place was empty so there were no issues with service. My son had an American girl doll with him and a waitress came over to offer the doll a high chair. That was very nice. He had a kids bbq pork sandwich and I had the adult version with curly fries. The food was very good. I'm excited to go back and try more. Reading earlier reviews scared me a little, but I thought with a few weeks under their belt they'd have ironed out the kinks. Not the case. We "called ahead" on Yelp and were told the wait would be 20ish minutes. When we checked in with the hostess on arrival, they didn't know anything about Yelp's service. The manager was called over and we were told it'd be 20 more minutes. No biggie; we'll have some drinks and enjoy the volleyball. I waited for a bartender to notice me for no fewer than 10 minutes. At one point he looked directly at me and went to some younger girls who'd just shown up. His loss: they ordered 5 fruity, mixed drinks when I was only going to get two beers and likely tip the same amount. I moved to another empty spot and was immediately waited on. 40 minutes after physically checking in with the hostess (and an hour after our Yelp call ahead), I again went to the front and the hostesses who looked at each other like they'd been caught--they'd clearly forgotten about us and immediately sat us in an empty table right next to two other empty tables. Our server came up to us and, instead of introducing herself, asked immediately if we were ready to order. No recommendations, no listing of specials, just "Are you guys ready?" The inside area was so loud we literally had to yell at each other. The food was ridiculously overpriced and low quality. I get that people are likely coming for the atmosphere and not the food, but with both falling short--don't even bother. read more

The vegan burger is delicious but the best thing about this place is the twister fries. They are so good! Seriously some of the best fries I have ever had. I've also had the salad before and enjoyed and it. I felt like the ingredients all seemed really fresh. The cocktails are kind of hit or miss, but I can also be picky. This place has been on my list for months. Finally got a chance to check it out last night and I have to say, I'm disappointed. The food was great and our waitress was great. However after migrating to the patio for drinks after our dinner was compete, I received the worst service maybe ever in my city. My friend and I patiently waited in the "line" that was forming at the center of the outside bar. There was one brunette working this entire area. The line was moving incredibly slowly. We were 4th in line and we watched people walk up to other sections of the bar area and squeeze in and yell for the girl to come serve them. So after waiting for 20 minutes, we walked over to one of these "side" areas, only to be ignored for another 20 minutes. We moved back to the "line". We were once again patiently waiting in line when the two guys behind us yelled to the bartender from 8 feet away and signaled "2 more beers." AND SHE SERVED THEM BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE IN THE LINE. They walked up in between a couple at the bar, and took their drinks, as the 4th and 5th people in LINE AT THE BAR. so believe me, when it was finally my turn, I had a few choice words for brunette bartender. I let her know that her bartending demeanor was absolutely unacceptable. You do not wait on people that are BEHIND people that have been waiting over half an hour for a drink. That is the entire point of a LINE. she rolled her eyes at me. I asked for 2 pixie stix drinks. She brings 2 solo cups over, not dipped in pixie stick dust like it's supposed to be, and starts to pour the drink. I said, excuse me, are you not going to rim our cups with pixie stix? She said, well, it gets hard to do out here, so let me go see if I can find any that isn't soaking wet. Um, yes, that would be great. Thanks. So I then was forced to ask for a manager. This is unacceptable service. She rolled her eyes again at me and I finally decided to be the bigger person and just walk away. The place itself, I give 4 stars. The rude inexcusable brunette bartender, negative 5 stars. Get a better attitude and learn how to treat your customers. For once I didn't feel bad not leaving a tip.
