If you're looking for a place that's dark, very dive bar-y and low-key casual, this is your place. It's a small space with a bar to your right once you enter, and the floors are unfinished. There are old arcade games around the room, and by old, I mean Paperboy, Asteroid, and Rampage old. Haha Still tons of fun, though! The games all take quarters, and there's a change machine if you need it. You can order beers, and there are some house cocktails for $5, but the cocktails come in these small glasses, like half the size of a regular glass. I don't think it's a fully stocked bar, but I also didn't ask for any drinks other than what they offered. Also, note this place is **cash only**. This is cool to go to if you wanna go out but don't wanna dress up, and you're looking for a really chill place to be and hang out with a friend or two. read more

Have you ever heard of a song that never ends? Have you ever run into Rainbow Brite? Head out to Blipsy Barcade and you'll encounter both of these things here. It seemed like it was the same song being played the whole time we were there. It never ended. Also, everyone there seemed like they were dressed for a rave, but not as extreme. More casual. About 10 minutes to closing time, the bartender was pretty rude in kicking everyone out. Kind of like a backhanded compliment. Well... not really. He was yelling out to everyone, but thanking us for coming. Not in a, "Thank you come again " way, but more of a, "Get the F**K out" way. This place seems very strange. It's 1984. 2 years before I was born. There are no cell phones, no computer games, but there's this arcade bar right in koreatown where all the cool kids come to hang out. Ok so it's not 1984, it's 2014 and there is an arcade bar located in Korea town, and it's quite random. So a friend of mine suggested that my girlfriend and I meet up with him at this spot. Upon arriving to the location it's a bit deceiving as the exterior doesn't have a sign but you will know you've arrived because It's located next door to a fried chicken joint that I just bookmarked! Once I entered through the dark black velvet curtains and into the murky dark and musty joint the bartender greets my girlfriend and I by asking for our Id's. We proceeded to walk about 30 steps gazing at all the games and pinball machines and we were at the end of the arcade. Yah it's that small. The archaic arcade games brought back memories from my childhood that made me almost tear up. They were old, but oh how nostalgic and retro are the "in thing" now. We played a few arcade games but the pinball games took most of our money. We spent most of the time there. After spending a good $5 on 25¢ games we made our way back to the bar and ordered up a few drinks. Ok so me personally I am not a drinker. I don't drink beer and rarely drink mixed drinks but I do know what a good drink tastes like, and I have to say these were the worst drinks I have ever had in my life. My girlfriend along with my friend agreed. My cranberry and vodka tasted like rubbing alcohol and sour cranberry juice, and my girlfriends Tokyo tea was 90% liquor. Needless to say the bartender didn't know how to bartend, and to top it off they only accept cash. So it really is 1984 here. The nostalgic feel here is cool, it's a great place to come and take a step back in time, but there are a few things that need to be improved. 1. Better ventilation. It's hot as hell in there. 2. Let me start by saying that the only reason they don't get 5 stars is because of parking... Well, the lack of it. The bar is cool and has decorations that include OG toys from my childhood (80s baby) they had skeletors dungeon and all the he-man good and bad guys to go with it... It has classics like double dragon and pacman to name a few and they are still only $.25 to play. They kinda remind me of the old school arcades where it was just games next to games that I would play for hours upon days with my only rewards were the satisfaction of beating the game and the objective of getting my three initials in that #1...2,3,4-10 spots lol. No stupid games that give you tickets for some dumb prize that you don't want anyway, just pure unadulterated 8 but glory of claiming that top spot! And then obsessively checking everytime you go back to see if you have been dethroned... Which only gives you an excuse to do it all over again. The bartender, who I think was also the owner was a super cool dude and you can tell he has a passion for this stuff and I love a place where I can go and know that the owner is as big a fan as I am. Holy crapsauce, this place is a trip. If my friend didn't have his birthday there, would have never known it existed, but I'm glad I know now. You'd never know driving by. You walk through the door and it's like taking a trip in the Delorian, right back to the late 80s/early 90s. Pac Man, Asteroids, Centipede, Playboy pinball, off-road racing and so much more. There's all kinds of old school pop culture spread throughout the place so keep your eye out. Super quaint, this place gets HOT. Went on a Monday night so it wasn't crowded. but I imagine on a weekend it's a sauna. All in all, super divey. Word to the wise: the bartender pours STRONG. So if you don't like strong drinks, this place isn't for you. I'm talking every shot is a double. They had a "DJ" but it was mainly just someone who hooked up an ipod and played wacky "music." There is no sign for this bar so good luck finding it! All I can recall is that there is a giant, two-story Kentucky Fried Chicken across the street and it is located in Koreatown. My boyfriend Robert S. loved their large selection of retro arcade games at retro prices while I loved their random jukebox selection (the only place I have heard Johnny Cash and Daft Punk played back-to-back is at my house) and the bartender's heavy handed pours. That is a plus, because often, you will encounter these places that have broken games and what not. Here, they are working. The inside of the bar itself is filthy, so if you care about that stuff, you won't like this place. Two years ago in The last days of our two months of traveling in the USA, Blipsy was our favorite hangout in LA. The cold 0,5L beers were super welcome in these hot summer nights. I put my name down at Jae Boo Do and yelped a nearby bar...walked to Blipsy Bar around 7pm and there was only two other customers... it was a hot day and not having air condition meant that we needed an Ice Cold Beer...no drafts only bottle or cans...Make sure to ask for an Cold Glass, they do have them in the refrig so you can pour your beer in but its on request. they have old school games, if you grew up in the 80-90s then you'll have a blast thinking about Pac-Man and Streetfighter...kids nowadays dont appreciate the Pixels.. how far we came in that technology...perhaps bar 82 was structured after this bar? except a high end hipster version of Blipsy??? Old school games, I mean OLD SCHOOL games up in this arcade! To think, drinks and arcarde, makes for a FUN Barcade, and this place definitely takes you on the way-way back train. I really really wanted to like this place!! Bar tender was super nice and so was security. Loved playing some 80s arcade games But!!!! That's where it stopped. First, Cash Only (come on!) Came here on a Saturday night and it wasn't too crowded. Tons of classic arcade games to play - sit-down Pac-man, Paper Boy, Rampage, Off-Road, Galaga, Centipede, WWF, and a few pinball machines to boot. Bring your own quarters or go to the change machine in the far right end of the bar, where there's also an ATM because this place is CASH ONLY - something to consider if you're trying to buy drinks, which are reasonably priced. All in all a pretty unique dive bar and a good find in LA. Look for the unmarked bar with no signage, walk through the black curtain and enjoy this wonderful barcade :) if you can find it. read more

Needed to kill some time before a show at the Wiltern. Looked up and found a small barcade that is the Blipsy Bar. Headed over and found this little hole in the wall with no sign. Walking in the place was empty, it was just me and the bartnder. Place is a cash only spot so be ready if you are heading here. They have quite a few original arcade games. You have everything from Spy Hunter, Track & Field, Paperboy and Rampage. All the ones you would find in a classic 80s arcade. They have 4 pinball machines which I played. All of them could definitely use some TLC. A lot of the lights where out and they were not very leveled. Still fun to play but if you are a pinball head like me you will wish you could clean up these machines. Overall a nice place to hang. Prices are decent, music is playing and you can play retro games. If this sounds cool then Blipsy Bar is worth checking out. CHEERS!!!! read more

Great place for a rest top or a mellow night out. I've come here off and on for a couple of years, at first because I was visiting town and my bff recommended it. It was a great place to come for a fun couple of games and a drink, not something you find a lot of in LA. More recently I have found it a great destination either on the way to, or from, downtown events, dinners and bars. I need to unwind with all the traffic and hectic pace of things. I stumbled across this gem after a night of wandering around K-Town. After an uneventful night at Cafe Brass Monkey, I hopped on my handy Yelp app and started searching for our next stop. Blipsy Barcade caught my eye because they had pin ball and vintage arcade machines. Once we arrived at the location, we weren't able to immediately find the bar. We had park the car and walk around in search of it. Within 10 mins of being inside the bar, I was taken back to a time when life was innocent. The 80's and 90's music along with the vintage arcade games suddenly propel me to my childhood. I do have gripes with this place. Some of the machines do not work properly. There are no beers on tap.The beer is slightly above average price. All that was forgiven by a lovely Peruvian bar tender by the name of Jimena. I kind of love this bar. I think the first time I went there I was DJ-ing and it just always has a really good vibe. Basically, the vibe I'm speaking of is that it always feels like you and your friends owns the place. It feels kind of like a secret clubhouse and I'm into that feeling. I know people complain that it's cash only and beer/wine/soju only, but I always end up drunk in the just the perfect way after one of those GIANT Sapporos or from one of those mysterious soju cocktails. I've never eaten the food and I haven't actually seen anyone eat it either...Just sayin! I think the decor is pretty cute and the lighting is good aka DARK and you can actually hear yourselves talk in the front room. People also say the restrooms are dirty, but those people have obviously never been to a punk show or a house party. The restroom is down a somewhat creepy hallway, but has always been clean when I was there. If you check out the Barcade Myspace page, you will see that every night is pretty much an interesting type of DJ/DJ set. I think Barcade really cares about music. I've seen live shows here, but I think they are rare maybe. And I'm not going to lie, I haven't spent much time in the "third" total game room, but that's probably because I would rather be playing records, dancing to my friends music when they are DJ-ing (check out every third Wednesday which is Def Before Disco: http://beatconnections.org/def_before_disco/ On top of all that I have mentioned, the bartender/owner, Ricardo is pretty soft on the eyes. This place is fantastic. They have a few retro games I've never seen anywhere else, including Spy Hunter (the #1 reason I keep coming back to this bar). Drinks are pretty cheap too, with a pint of Guinness being $8 and most well cocktails $7 as of 10/2017. Not only that, but they also make drinks much stronger than any other LA bar I've been to, plus plus for that! There's DJs at times, but I'm going for the retro games. I'm a fan. Keep in mind, this place is TINY, a lot smaller than you're thinking. Secondly, it's hard to find because there's no sign outside, and you'll almost think you're going into the wrong place. Yes, the entrance is a thick curtain and there usually isn't security outside. Also, cash only, and parking can sometimes be difficult to find. Off the top of my head, the games they have are: Track & Field Double Dragon Gunfight (a vintage Nintendo classic I haven't seen anywhere else!) Out of the 5 or 6 times I've gone, Spy Hunter has only properly worked once. But props to them, they are repairing their games. One visit, Off-Road wasn't working, and in the next, they had fixed it. For people who say the games are too old....well then go to Gameworks or Dave and Busters!!! Came to this bar to see one of my face bands play, VBC! I honestly was super excited to visit their bar and also get chance to see them play. That feeling changed immediately as I walked in. The bar smelled like a thrift store on a hot day. Musty, no circulation and poorly cleaned. I didn't even make it to their set time because all I wanted to do was come home and take a shower.
