I've gone to BLKdot Coffee twice and got the VTM and Light VTM both times and I can't seem to get over how crazy sweet both of these drinks are. The VTM is almost undrinkable with how sweet it is. The light is slightly better but still ridiculously sweet. I liken it to diabetes in a cup. I don't think I can handle this sweetness again and I'm not sure how everyone else can! I think I'll stick with the breakfast banh mi and maybe a different drink if I come back. Definitely get the breakfast banh mi, that was delicious. It was my first visiting Blk Dot Coffee and I loved it! At first, when I walked in the cafe was buzzing with people everywhere. All the workers were talking and yelling out orders and I felt slightly overwhelmed. But that quickly turned around when I got to the register. The cashier (I wish I had gotten her name) was very welcoming and seemed happy to be there. When I told her it was my first time and needed a minute longer to look at the menu she quickly jumped in to make some recommendations. On the 4th of July, the weather was amazing. I was searching for a good coffee shop in Irvine and luckily, I discovered one through Yelp. The reviews were quite positive, so I decided to give it a try. Their specialty coffee, the VMT (Vietnamese coffee), was incredibly strong for my taste but It was delicious. I believe people enjoy this coffee as an energy boost in the morning. The interior of the shop was very clean and cozy, and the staff was kind and friendly. I was really disappointed with my recent visit. My food order was given to me but my drink was not made. After 10 minutes I was asked what my drink was, even after that my drink kept getting overlooked. Kudos for the interpretation of Vietnamese coffee but definitely not a fan If you are a Starbucks fan then you will enjoy this place but if you are a fan of Vietnamese coffee or coffee connoisseur then avoid. Look I enjoy variations on things but in this case the "interpretation" wasn't all that. 1. You should tell people at ordering that there is coconut creamer instead of condensed milk: that creamer btw tastes like hazelnut which is personally not a fav. 2. Cannot go wrong with blk dot! The VTM tiger is my absolute favorite! I will say I miss the original jelly before the switch to the rectangular jelly, but still super yummy! Stopped in after running errands in the area today for an afternoon pick me up. I got there around 2pm and it wasn't busy but I knew it would be too late for me to get coffee so I opted into trying out their Lychee Peach Black Tea. Customer service was good, it was a bit hard to understand the cashier but she was nice. The Lychee Peach Black Tea was super super good, very refreshing & not too sweet. Great for a strong coffee. There is something just well balanced about the Vietnamese Coffee (iced VTM) at this location. For $5.50, it's not the cheapest item but it certainly packs a punch of caffeine that keeps me going through the day. I definitely appreciate the fact that it tastes strong but not bitter, as well as sweet but not so sweet I feel like I'm just drinking pure sugar. The only reason why I wouldn't consider this place "5 stars" is because of the few times I've been here, the associates seemed to really not prioritize making drinks as soon as possible. I mention this after realizing that the VTM is pretty much pre-made in a pitcher and then poured over a gratuitous amount of ice (even the menu mentions that if you ask for less ice, they will still serve the same amount of VTM). It's also real easy for other guests to accidentally take your drink, as there is not really a check by the associate behind the bar to confirm that you are picking up the right order. Granted, Starbucks kind of also operates on an honor system when they leave out mobile orders and such. Overall, good product with a bit of improvement in the speed of service. read more

Cute spot in the plaza with good drinks and food. I normally stop by Blk Dot for their VTM coffee which is their take on a Vietnamese coffee. Honestly, it's one of the best in the area. Great taste, not too sweet and not too bitter at the end. Their regular VTM is quite strong in terms of caffeine so I would recommend the regular size, unless you really want that caffeine boost from the large. They also have a LVTM which is a lighter version for the caffeine-sensitive folks. Tried their basic Avocado Toast which came with avocado, olive oil, cherry tomatoes, chia seeds and salt+pepper. Nothing much to say other than it's a very solid avocado toast. Lines can get busy here, especially on the weekends, but they move quite fast. Overall, would recommend! read more

It was cold in the morning so I ordered a hot Vietnamese coffee, which I did not know existed. It was one of the best decisions I made because I loved my drink. You could taste the Vietnamese coffee but it was different esp since I substituted for oat milk. I also ordered an avocado toast. The slide of bread was really big but too burnt for me. This review reflects a takeout/delivery experience, not dining in at the actual restaurant. I ordered a few items for breakfast, and they were pretty quick about fulfilling my order. The food and drinks were delivered in a reasonable amount of time. The tuna brioche sandwich was pretty good as it was different from other tuna sandwiches. The avo toasts were also pretty good. I think the bread on all items was good. The matcha latte drink was good too. It definitely is on the pricier side, but then again, everything is pretty expensive nowadays. There was a bit of a spin on all of their items compared to other avo toast/brioche bun sandwiches, but nothing major. Good first experience overall. read more

I love this coffee shop! They have really good Vietnamese coffee which is super strong. I've tried the Vietnamese coffee and really enjoyed it although I had to add some extra milk to balance out the flavors. I've been really into the hot latte's lately and they have a really tasty latte option. It's always made perfectly and tastes delicious. Their avocado toast is also good and flavorful.
