The service was extremely disappointing. My drinks came out significantly late, even though I had ordered well before several others. I watched multiple people--who arrived and placed their orders after me--receive their drinks ahead of mine. One couple ordered after me and got their drinks before I did. Then a woman walked in, placed her order right in front of my eyes while I was still waiting, and received her drink before mine as well. By the time my order was finally called, yet another couple--different from the first--had already received theirs before mine, despite ordering after me. To make matters worse, the drinks (two Spanish lattes) were bland and poorly made. It's unacceptable for such a small order to be both delayed and improperly prepared, especially when the café wasn't even busy. Prioritizing certain customers over others is unacceptable. Sterile , stark , cold interiors with huge black signs declaring, "Sleep is Overrated" and "Caffeine Pickup Here" - blatant in your face logos , more suited for a corporate, dt city environment rather than a laid-back beach town such as Newport Coast. So... Yeah... Came here on a Sunday morning, my wife and I pulled up and we saw a bunch of Porsches and Lamborghinis, was amazing treat. So the coffee was very delicious. It was our first time there so we asked the girl at the register what she recommends, and she recommended the Spanish latte and Vietnamese coffee. We took her on her offer and we got both of them iced. So if you want something strong, go with the Vietnamese, but if you're looking for something sweet, go with the Spanish, most definitely will come back here again to see the cars and drink coffee. This did it for me. I actually like their Vietnamese coffee but after my third experience all the same I won't ever come back to blk dot coffee. I ask for light ice for a coffee over $8 because if I just wanted ice or a sip of coffee on ice I sure as heck wouldn't pay $8 for it. I pay the price and I at least want my one damn expensive cup of iced coffee that's mostly creamer and still ice. The cherry on top is the gap they leave because of light ice. And God forbid you ask anyone working at 3 different locations they are trained to apparently not ever give you a drop more to fill that gap. I don't know if they threaten to take it out of their paychecks but this is making Starbucks look like heaven. It's ludicrous with the prices they charge that they are so stingy with their coffee. My 2 kids got their $7 teas and finished before we even got out of the parking lot since it was ALL ice!! Are we nuts to keep supporting bougie businesses because they are in affluent areas up charging everyone like nuts for flavored ice!!! Not my money and not my patronage. Stopped by in the early evening - no line at all. I ordered a strawberry lychee tea and then found an empty table in the seating area. For 20 minutes I watched people enter the cafe, order, and be served their drink while I continued to sit there waiting. Finally, I approached the staff member and inquired about the status of my drink and was told they had forgotten to make it. They quickly made the drink and I finally received my order 21 minutes after I had made it. I was frustrated to not even receive an apology. The drink was ok. I'll break my review down into every aspect that plays a role in my 2-star rating. Quality of food/drink: Drinks are great. I love their coffees, teas, and other refreshers. My favorites include the VTM, LVTM, chai tea latte, Spanish latte, the hot oolong tea, and the cold oolong tea with lavender. Matcha is really good too but not my favorite compared to other coffee shops. Food is fast food but much better quality and more "real" than starbucks. Overall, the quality I would give a 4-5 star rating. STINGY: As I said drinks are good. But they are soooo stingy. I have attached photos of my drinks that, keep in mind, I haven't even taken a sip out of yet. If you get light ice, they literally avoid filling your drink as much as possible. Sometimes they fill it but then it has more ice. This is a huge business and not a local coffee shop. Paying outrageous prices for a drink that can't even be filled like 2 more ounces, are you kidding?? They can handle to fill the drink. I would rather go to starbucks for that since they actually fill for what you pay for. Blk dot prices are a joke. $10 for bagels and toast. It's insane to me that the baristas won't fill a 8-9$ drink that's mostly ice. Saw other reviews about this too so it's not just me. I get you are choosing (light ice, fill less) but really a majority of the drink sometimessss. It's just so strange. Service: Service is ehh. I order online almost every time. What I will say is they're always SO quick to make my drink but not quick to approach me and give me service. The baristas and everyone that works there will not ask you if you are picking up. The employees literally avoid eye contact and walk away hoping that you wouldn't ask them for something. They're rude and very antisocial. I expect to walk up to the counter and have someone greet me and ask if I am picking up my order within at least a minute. It honestly takes them as much time to approach me as it would take to make a big order. If I order online, sometimes it takes only 2 minutes to make 2 drinks, but then 5 minutes to approach me as I am waiting at the counter for my drinks. At that point, I walk up to the register. I give 1 star for service. Will I come here again? This coffee shop is down the hill from my house. It's close and convenient. So yes I would come back. Do i like dealing with the employees? NO. This place needs to be more attentive and less "robot-like". Their mind is thinking: get stuff done and be over with it and don't help customers. It's like a factory. Had never had BLK Dot, but have seen it many times before. What a great and unique coffee, unlike anything I have ever had. Service was fantastic! The individual helping me was being trained and he was doing a fantastic job! really friendly staff and amazing location and overall vibe! The coffee itself is great, extremely robust flavor and very strong! I am glad I got it iced because it was frankly too strong when I first tried it. When I let it melt for a few minutes it was perfect! Would highly recommend if you haven't tried it! Vietnamese coffee is great! read more

Dear Yelp Community, I am already familiar with other Blk Dot locations, and this one just opened in Newport Coast. I ordered what they claim to be as home to the original VTM coffee (Vietnamese coffee). I enjoyed my hot and sweet coffee drink, the service was quick and friendly, and the venue has a contemporary sleek design (with pink flowers that stand out in the midst of the black and white ambiance). However, I debated whether to give five or four stars because the critique I have of this venue is not specific to the venue location, but branding by the company. The company claims that "sleep is overrated". I disagree, respectfully, and really wish the company would re-brand to consider, yes, how caffeine could offer mental clarity, but still support wellness...people need to sleep enough (not to be mistaken with the vice of sloth). Located in the Crystal Cove shopping center, which has valet parking and practically no parking spaces on a busy, sunny day on the PCH. I've never been to a shopping center that was crammed full of people when it wasn't Christmas, but this certainly was. On top of that, I've never been to a shopping center that had valet parking! I must be poor. Anyway, we ordered Thai Iced Tea at Blk Dot and the best way to put our description of the barista was that he was...deliberate. He had to look at the instruction manual to make Thai Iced Tea. Maybe it was his first day, I don't know. But he did it well! And vegan, too, which is the only way I take it. Yay for me. Beautiful outdoor seating area. A pair of very well-dressed ladies put all their bags down near us and asked us to watch them while they went somewhere else. We weren't sure how long they assumed we'd sit there, but maybe that's how they do it in Newport Beach -- ask total strangers to watch your belongings so you can keep on shopping? Go to the bathroom? Order drinks at the cafe? We don't know where they went, but about 20 minutes later they came back, just as were getting ready to leave anyway. Newport Beach is so trusting! read more

It was exciting to see this coffee shop being described as Asian-inspired, however it was very disappointing. If you're looking for an authentic Vietnamese coffee, I would suggest you keep moving as this was FAR from it. The coffee is heavily combined with cream and lots of sugar, taking away from any true flavor of coffee. Also, be warned, that when you choose the option for LESS ICE, they will still fill the cup with ice and when you take the ice out (see attached photo), you are left with half a drink. When we approached the barista about what constitutes "less ice" versus a standard order with ice, he felt the need to be dramatic and avoid the question, issuing a bold statement that there are 7 shots of espresso in the drink and that "adding water would enhance the flavor of the drink". The action that he described is defined as diluting, the act of making a liquid weaker by adding water. It is unclear as to the point he was trying to make as no one ever asks to water "up" their drink. It was an unfortunate experience but not worth the money or the calories if you are looking for real Vietnamese coffee. read more

This place is super busy on the weekend, but everything came out quickly and it all tasted soo yummy. The team working there were friendly and recommended I try the new teapresso mango mojito drink. The tea tasted refreshing and I absolutely loved the mango boba in there. I also got a wild brekkie bowl and it was really flavorful. Why did you ruin the craft of the original blk dot by bringing in automatic espresso machines, you have two great manual machines right behind the register but didn't use them the whole time I was in the store. The espresso is so much better at the Laguna Beach and Irvine Marketplace locations. Very sad I had high hopes for the Crystal Cove location. I ordered a hot Americano with cream (half and half). When I got my drink, it was lukewarm and had too much cream (almost like a latte). I told them about it and they made another one with cream outside (separate). I was very disappointed because before Blk Dot replaced Starbucks, I always got a good drink there. I rarely take the time to write reviews, but I feel like I need people to be aware of how bad this place is - I appreciate humanity too much to let them go to a place like this!!! I visited last week - Drink was terrible, staff was very rude and were clearly slacking off. Again, I normally don't care enough to leave a review, but this was an exceptionally terrible experience. You'd be doing yourself a favor by going to Starbucks and sipping on their burnt beans. The workers were very rude and basically threw my drink across the counter.
