Small coffee shop to enjoy at a table outside if you're walking lido village. The inside is relatively small for seating but there's several tables outside. I got a rosemary iced latte, which tasted great. The syrup was housemade and didn't make the drink too sweet. The staff was friendly, and efficient with making orders. I do not try a pastry but they all looked very fresh and had a good variety of choices.

Stopped by on a rainy Saturday night, open late for studying or group hangouts. Drink menu is modest - only flavored syrups are vanilla and honey rosemary. I found the coffee to be a bit watery for my taste. Would probably recommend a hot drink over iced as that seems to be their specialty. Only food is pastries, not much left later in the evening. 4 tables with wooden stools inside with additional bench seating (no tables) and outdoor seating. Only saw 1 outlet in this establishment. Restroom available with code. Did not notice free wifi posted for customers. Most of the nearby parking is paid although there is 30 minute parking for free directly across the street for pickups. Service was pleasant. Music an appropriate volume although I found the genre to be interesting for the setting - pop and rap. Okay in a pinch, especially given limited late night options in the area!

Herst Coffee Roasters is an elegant and minimalist coffee shop with modern and sleek designs both for their interior and menu items. It's one of the first coffee shops you stop by when you enter Lido Marina Village. My family and I love to go on walks around the beach and the Village is our main stop after we're done to refresh ourselves with shopping and some food and drink. I like sitting here to relax and enjoy the decor/ambiance, but everything else about this shop is so MEH. Nothing about the coffee drinks is special nor are the pastries. Also, the service has racist undertones where the cashiers are subliminally more friendly to their white customers... You know what, maybe every time I've come here was not a good day. I personally have found many better coffee shops in the area but the rest of Lido Marina Village is pleasant to visit.

TLDR: great location & great coffee Very conveniently located in Lido Marina Village. The lines are a bit long at times and it takes a while to get your drink, but they make a great latte - very smooth and not acidic. If you like the coffee, they sell their beans. Looks like they roast in-house as well. Makes a great spot to rest your legs and take a break from shopping. The pistachio croissant was ok - there's no filling and nothing too special about it.

While the aesthetic and location are absolutely beautiful, the coffee itself left a bit to be desired. This is a gorgeous, chic little spot with plenty of outdoor seating (which is exactly where you want to be when hanging out in Lido Marina Village) plus a hidden, cozy little nook in the back that is incredibly charming. It is definitely a highly Instagrammable space, but the actual drinks were just decent and nothing to write home about. On the plus side, my husband absolutely loved his giant chocolate swirl croissant, which was delicious. It's a great place to sit outside and people-watch, but because the coffee didn't particularly stand out, it hasn't become a spot we are rushing back to revisit. Additionally, while the staff wasn't overtly rude, they didn't greet us and let us stand there for quite a while before even checking if we had been helped, so I wouldn't consider them particularly good hosts.

No disrespect to this business because it could be some people's cup of tea but it was not mine. The lates and cold brew were so unbelievably bitter it was hard to even sip on our drinks. They also don't have menus anywhere besides a small one at the front so you had to rush to order once you got up there. Price was also very high for the quality we got in my opinion. 2 positives- the cashier/barista was so kind and nice and we didn't wait long for the drinks considering it was busy.

Coffee was exceptional. I ordered a Honey Rosemary Latte which did not disappoint. The pricing on the menu at the POS did not represent the price I was charged. Price was higher than advertised. Seems like an easy thing to update since it was printed on a piece of paper. Loved the coastal vibe of the place. It was Sunday and they were well staffed so I did not have to wait long for my coffee.

Definitely coming here over and over again! The coffee here is sooo good, no acidity in the espresso and supper nutty. Their lattes are pretty milky so I got an iced cortado with so it's with less milk, I recommend it this way with light vanilla if you like a nice coffee taste! Came here again a second day and got a matcha. It was very milky with whole milk so id probably stick to their coffee drinks!

Wow! My iced matcha latte with almond milk tasted like well balanced candy. It was so good, I drank it too fast before I could take a photo for the review. I usually dont like matcha because it can taste like bitter grass, but this was deliciously delightful.

HERST COFFEE ROASTERS is located in the Lido Marina Village. So if you come here for the coffee, you'll be glad to hear that the shops are worth a visit. There was no line to order but there was quite a bit of people inside the spacious shop waiting to get their orders. Not because the baristas are slow, but because there seem to be a lot of customers that ordered ahead. And no wonder. Their CORTADO is deliciously strong, but not super bitter and/or sour. Their LATTE is not milky at all. Their CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE is giant and thick and very chocolatey and very pizookie-size worthy. Cute indoor space. Even cuter outdoor seating area. It's difficult to get a vacant table at the front though -- there are lots of people.

i noticed this spot had a lot of people were coming in and out of here, and decided to try! we got their herst flat white & iced vanilla latte - solid coffees, but there was not anything i noticed that made it different from other coffee spots i've tried. from my experience, the cashier was a bit standoffish when we asked her questions. i did like how they celebrated for the holidays though!

Herst is my favorite coffee shop to visit in Newport - the ambiance is lovely, baristas are sweet, pastries are all delectable, and coffee is smoooth everytime! And it's located in the cutest Lido Village so it's perfect for meeting with friends (limited seating) or walking around the beach and village with your coffee of choice! Love their pastries, from Eller Bakery so it's made with sourdough. The banana bread and chocolate chip cookie are decadent and divine.

Stopped by really quick to try this place out cause I'm always down the street picking up from super good bagels, the atmosphere is very upscale and beach like. Coffee is ok and pastries are ok. It's not a place that makes me want to visit all of the time. But it's very nice and pretty chill in the early mornings. Sometimes You can catch a mini Porsche owner car show on weekends if you show up early. read more

Absolutely in my top 5 cafes in OC. Can't say enough good things about this place. The highlight is honestly getting a seat outside under the star jasmine bushes and umbrella, and enjoying a pastry and coffee with loved ones. Highly recommend the honey rosemary latte - can't find it anywhere else and it's delicious for those who love semi-sweet floral leaning lattes. Brownie points for the syrup being made in house (it's a tablestake these days but still appreciate it). Spanish latte is also superb. Pastries are some of the best we've had. I recently ordered the plain croissant and it was by far the best plain croissant I've had in my life. You'll need to come earlier in the day to have options because they sell somewhat quickly. Small nitpick that I've also seen from others is that they really should keep pastries in a case rather than out in the open. The fly fan things don't work that well... Also with the amount of dogs, fur and dander are inevitably airborne. When I was there last a customer's large dog jumped on the counter several times and had his face and paws in the pastries - woops. read more

I got the cold brew latte with almond milk and I was a fan! It was light and had the perfect ratio of coffee to milk. The cappuccino was good too, but it had an-almost burnt aftertaste. Still, both were good and the art on top was beautiful! The staff was also very kind and welcoming. read more

I never forget how great their coffee & staff are--but it's been a month & wow, did I miss their vanilla latte! Glad they are reserving their outside tables for patrons. Literally, we just want to sit & enjoy for a few minutes! Previously, they were occupied by hordes of men who would sit there for hours--like they're at a Dar in the Medina! read more

Our go to while staying in Newport Beach! They roast in-house so you know it'll be good. Popular with locals,they know when the good places are. We liked pastries too,cinnamon & cardamom type danish & the sourdough crossiant was interesting (very rich!) My husband noticed they don't serve traditional cortodas there,he ordered one but served more like a flat white.He asked for less milk in it and that was perfect. read more

Always see this coffee shop bustling throughout the week and finally wanted to check it out for myself. They had quick service and a light fresh vibe. Minimal seating but it's next to lido village where there's lots of shopping and seating areas to enjoy. The barista recommended the Spanish latte and it was really tasty. I also grabbed a chocolate croissant. Was good, very flaky and messy, but nothing too brilliant. I enjoyed taking it over to the couches on the edge of the shops and read a book and having my breakfast. It was a great way to spend my morning. Overall great experience with the food and location. read more

I like Herst Coffee. They hire good people and it's a very cute location. Love the outdoor seating, and the little back room makes nice use of the space. I wouldn't say it's the best to work from, as the indoor seating is limited and meant more for short stays. The hot lattes are awesome, but their iced lattes don't taste very good to me for some reason. Maybe I'm not a huge fan of their syrups. I'll stick to hot, because they usually do a fantastic job. I would also pass on the pastries. It's a shame because they look so beautiful, but I tried a chocolate croissant once and it was awful. They should find a new supplier. read more

We were leaving Newport Beach at the end of the day and were in the mood to have coffee. Stumbled upon this place on the way back and I am so happy we did. The place is so chic with so much character with all the fun decor, especially that coffee mill by the entrance. I got the honey rosemary latte and oh my God! I'll have to recreate that or drive there everyday to get because it was so unique and delicious. Also the girls were super fast in making my coffee. 10/10 read more

I did not expect to like Herst when I walked in and saw how milky their drinks looked. I figured they'd serve me overpriced, improperly made drinks but was delighted at how good their coffee was. My husband ordered an iced vanilla latte with almond milk. It wasn't too sweet, had a nice espresso flavor even though it didn't look like it, and was nicely balanced. I ordered a standard macchiato which should technically be espresso with about a tablespoon of steamed milk, totaling no more than 3-4oz. They gave me a cortado instead, but I have no complaints because it was smooth and delicious. I'll have to research parking options to determine if I'll be back. It cost $10 to park for 17 minutes which was enough time to go in, order, grab my drinks, and back to the car. read more

Love a good redemption arc. I visited Herst Coffee for a second time this past weekend and was floored by their Spanish latte. This spot remains to be pretty upscale, which is no surprise due to their location in the Lido area. While you won't find price conscious beverages here, their drinks are incredibly tasty and the staff is very kind. The Spanish iced latte with oat milk I ordered is my perfect-world beverage. Everything about this drink was made to perfection. Love that they can craft a smooth and creamy beverage, while still managing to keep a strong coffee flavor. Highly recommend checking Herst out and browsing the nearby Lido stores as part of your Newport Beach day itinerary. read more

Dear Herst management, Please you must do something about flies all over your pastries. Leaving them out exposed all day long and selling them to unsuspecting customers is disgusting and health and safety issue. Your employees (3) made no attempt to cover it or swat away the flies. It appears that another reviewer complained about the same issue (flies) several months ago. I looked for a manager but didn't see one to point out the obvious. Will take some pictures next time. read more

I got a cold brew . I would have liked to add a sugar-free syrup, but they didn't have any because all of their syrups are made in house with cane sugar. I thought the flavor of the cold brew wasn't all that good although it was not inherently bad. My friend got a hot honey rosemary latte with oat milk. She likes floral and herbal flavors typically so was excited. she said that this one was savory, she even said that her burps tasted like she had just eaten a steak seasoned with rosemary. this particular time that I went with my friend, we were able to find parking without issue, but I actually tried to come another time with a different friend and we literally had to leave because we couldn't find parking. It is in Lido Marina Village in Newport Beach so the parking situation definitely be tough . Be prepared! the barista was not very friendly, but i could tell he was very focused on his work. there was some seating available in the back area, but it odd- the tables were so tiny you could barely even fit a drink on them. so this definitely isn't a shop that you would bring your laptop to get work done or even to meet with someone - both of your drinks probably wouldn't even fit on the table! The price was to be expected . The inside is cute & spacious, with a good amount of seatings inside as well as outside to enjoy the breezy ocean air...however, if you plan on studying or working here, don't. They don't have wifi available & very limited power outlets if you need to plug in your computer. Their menu seems to be limited, with just the basic flavors and kinds of coffee. I don't drink coffee, so I got a matcha and that was very powdery. Staff is friendly and welcoming. read more

Should have checked the recent reviews first and not come based on an article . I ordered a Mocha Latte which was just ok, I'm thinking of a couple of other coffee shops that are much better. My husband ordered the double espresso which seemed much shorter than normal and was very bitter. We ordered the pistachio croissant (dreaming of our breakfasts in Italy and Naples, FL). Unfortunately this version gets a 0. The croissant itself is good but the pistachio is a hard glaze that falls apart and there is no creamy pistachio filling - disappointing. read more

I have a great appreciate for the minimalist design. The design gives you a clean ambience and the coffee aroma makes you feel warm and cozy. This is a great spot if you are in Lido village and need to satisfy your caffeine cravings. The mocha was on point and perfect in taste. Also I enjoyed seeing the barista guy with nice eyes. Strolling along after a late lunch and was thinking of having some coffee as a pick me up. Herst coffee was just the right spot. An open and welcoming space. Great sidewalk outdoor tables to people watch. Indoors is large and almost a farmhouse vibe. Staff are helpful when ordering. Decided on a matcha latte iced and a strawberry cream puff. Matcha was smooth and nothing too special. The puff however is really good. Puff is soft with a creamy strawberry custard. Watch out- the cream can end up on your shirt! It tasted like a good regular latte but maybe they held back on the caramel and cinnamon to the point I couldn't detect it. Seating is first come first serve. But surprisingly... that wasn't even the worst part. The food was incredibly disappointing. I ordered the breakfast burrito, and the potatoes were still raw--hard enough to remind me they were once part of the ground.. My husband ordered the French toast, which looked suspiciously like it took a quick detour from Trader Joe's frozen aisle before landing on our table. There's nothing wrong with frozen French toast... unless you're charging $14 and calling it brunch. Another friend ordered the granola with berries. After a few bites, he gave it a skeptical look, pushed the bowl away, and decided breakfast simply wasn't worth the gamble. The coffee was decent , but honestly wasn't worth fighting the neighbors for a parking spot!

He was very friendly and acted as if we were long time friends. You order up at the front counter and then they bring the food to you. We tried a little bit of everything. Their burger which was super simple but really tasty! Their breakfast burrito which was a classic. But the star of the show was the pastrami breakfast tacos I have never had anything like that before. It was so good and I will definitely be back for that! I also ordered their Paradise Iced Tea, which was good, but not spectacular at a paradise level in my opinion. The tri tip sandwich could have been executed in all the right ways, but the Serrano chilis were overdone and took over the sandwich. The balance was thrown off. The Serrano masked the overly chunky tri tip and my palate. If the Serrano chilis were diminished by a half or even two thirds, this would be a far better sandwich. The quality of the sesame seeded hero bus was great and I could taste it, but overshadowed by the Serranos.I could tell the cheese sauce was also well thought out and executed on its own, but again the chilis masked all that goodness. The same goes for the chunky sauteed onions, whose sweetness could have offered a nice counterpoint to the tri tip and chilis, but was overwhelmed by the chilis. This also applied to the tri tip, whose Wagyu flavor should have been at the center of this sandwich, but was pushed aside by the Serranos. You're onto a good thing with this Tri Tip and I was looking forward to enjoying it, given we don't commonly see the tri tip cut on the East Coast. When you run this special again, back off the Serranos by a considerable amount and chop the tri tip a bit more finely so one can eat it without having to eat oversized chunks. The quality is there, but the balance and execution were off. 3.4 stars

I was confused why 1) she didn't give me a receipt in the first place, then 2) she decided that was the only solution - to tell me it could not be done. After I asked her to find a solution as I needed a copy of the receipt, she finally asked her colleague beside her, who pointed her to the right place, and, voila, the receipt was printed. Leading with "I can't" is never the right customer service instinct, especially for something as basic as a receipt. I also tried to buy the butter they import from France. I stood at the case for several minutes with no acknowledgment. I finally walked over to the nearest employee (her name was Lucy) who was finishing up with a customer at the register right next to the butter section. I politely asked if she could help me when she was free. She looked at me, nodded, and said she would. Then proceeded to assist every customer who lined up behind that original customer without once glancing back in my direction. In fact, I had enough time to walk to the bakery, go through the entire gift card situation as mentioned above, and return to the butter section, and Lucy still hadn't looked over. I left without the butter. Moulin used to have fantastic service. I don't know where those regulars went, but two strikes in one visit, with two different employees, is hard to brush off.

I recently visited Herst Coffee and was quite disappointed with the experience. First off, there's no WiFi, which makes it impossible to get any work done or even casually browse the internet while enjoying a cup of coffee. The seats were incredibly uncomfortable, making it hard to relax and enjoy my time there. Additionally, there was no bathroom available, which is quite inconvenient for any coffee shop. To top it off, they didn't even have an oven to warm the cookies (ordered a vanilla maple and a chocolate chip). Cold, hard cookies are not what I expected. Overall, Herst Coffee has a lot of room for improvement in terms of basic amenities. I hope they consider making some changes soon. read more

First off, I am not a regular coffee drinker. In fact, I don't like cappuccinos and regular coffee. I would add 3 to 5 packets of sugar in order for me to have a cup of joe. Last weekend I went to Cuba. Coffee was served with every meal. I was so surprised how good their coffee was. Not bitter at all. When I came back I tried Starbucks cappuccino. Did not like it. Then I tried it here. Very good. At Starbucks I would need 2 packets of sugar. Here, just one and I can sip it to enjoy the flavor. Only 4 stars because I haven't tried other items. read more
