    French extension powder manicure
    Jaelyn F.

I just moved to the neighborhood and needed to find a new nail salon. I tried out Bloom and the customer service was great. Everyone was very friendly and got me in right away. The salon was very clean as well. Unfortunately, the skill set is horrible. I asked for tip extension with a French manicure with powder. The French is completely uneven, thick, and on some nails even straight across the nail. The nails are very very thick as well and shouldn't have been dipped into the powder as many times as they were. The price for this was $83 ... I'll have to go to another salon to get these fixed asap

Wrong amount, the "tax" they collected is not even itemized.

Bait and switch! Do not come here! Upon walking in the door, I flinched when the girl responded that a normal mani/pedi was $43, because I thought that was overpriced. But, it was freezing cold and I didn't feel like walking around looking for a cheaper price, so I went ahead with the mani/pedi. So everything was fine with the service until it came time to pay. First, they don't accept Amex here (boo, no points for this overpriced purchase!). Second, the girl swiped my MC and brought me a receipt for $47. I asked her, "Wait, I thought you said the price was $43" and she starting speaking in Mandarin with another worker and then said "Well, um, we have to charge you tax". On my receipt, there was no itemization of tax--which by the way, their calculators/registers must be broken because 8.875% tax on $43 would bring the total to $46.81. Then the girl gives me two singles back to "make up for it" but I said either charge me the $43 or I won't leave a tip and I won't come back. Guess who won't be coming back to Bloom Nail Spa?

Service was good but the quick dry thing doesn't work. Did my pedicure and the color came off when I got home.

THE MASSAGE I mainly felt that the massage was very uncomfortable because they never asked me any qualifying questions. When I arrived, a lady had helped me prepare, but then after I had laid down in a dark room and some whispering, what seemed like a male had taken her place. Immediately I felt myself tense up, because I felt more vulnerable being undressed under the sheet, while not expecting to be a given a massage by a male. And the whole time, I felt like something felt off, but I didn't know how to bring up the switch. On top of that, spas generally ask if you want your glutes to be massaged, and I wasn't asked and more so just a verbal check-in after the fact. After that experience, I didn't get a massage for a whole year, and yet I felt a need to tip them as the front desk lady and the masseuse looked at me expectantly. I'm not sure if they are aware of how the lack of communication could impact customers, but hopefully they can create a better experience for customers in the future. THE EYELASH EXTENSIONS I came in to try the deal that they were offering around the same time. The lady who did the extensions for me was truly giving her best, I could tell, and was very friendly. However, the process, wasn't totally smooth. I recall my eyes stinging because the glue would get into my eyes and after the entire experience was over, I realized my eyelashes were very stiff because there was too much glue used on each strand of extension! I think overall, despite the nice intentions of the staff, the services were subpar compared to many of the spas/extension spots I've been to, and it's like they are oblivious to this! I'm glad I finally got this off my chest after so long.

She set me up with some calming tea and brought me to a private changing area with a locker for my belongings. Everyone in the vicinity checked in to make sure I was doing ok. I was worried that because I had arrived late, I would eat up some of my massage time. No siree! They moved my massage to start when I was ready to begin. I booked the 90 minute Nuansa classic massage. You know how some places start the clock before you've sat down and finish the massage early (aka you pay for an hour and it's only about 45 minutes)? Well! That's not the case here! I got all 90 minutes of my massage. The massage itself: not to be believed. Lukkana started by saying "time to relax". And boy did I. Let me tell you one thing about me - I have the most ticklish legs of anyone I've ever met. Usually, when I have my legs massaged, I kick a hole in the wall and the masseuse files for a lawsuit (this is an exaggeration). Well! Somehow, Lukkana was able to work the muscles in my leg without triggering my dainty ticklish reflexes. I was astonished! Then, you know how sometimes you ask for a firm touch and you get jelly hands? Or the other way around and you're walking out with bruises? WELL - Lukkana made me feel immensely relaxed WHILE ALSO really working the tissue. What a novelty. She finished up with a scalp massage, which is truly the way to my heart. 11 out of 10. Would recommend. Thank you so much for making my day.

Fifteen minutes into our 90-minute couples deep tissue massage, I saw my husband's therapist, Lydia, typing on a lit smartphone while leaning over him. When she realized I saw her, she hid the phone under the sheets. There is no version of this that is acceptable. Texting during a paid massage is blatant misconduct. It didn't stop there. My husband repeatedly asked her to focus on his neck and shoulders and avoid his feet. His requests were ignored. The technique was lazy and mechanical - repetitive forearm circling with little to no pressure, despite requesting deep tissue. He left feeling like he didn't receive a massage at all. When we raised the issue, the owner acknowledged the behavior was "unacceptable" yet offered only a 25% discount - as if actively texting during a massage, ignoring repeated client requests, and delivering a substandard service were minor inconveniences. This wasn't just a bad massage. It was a complete lack of professionalism and accountability. We will not be returning.

Though the site showed that they had no availability on this date I called and was able to be fit in that same day. The receptionist mentioned that my esthetician Rebecca had a language barrier, but she and I got on perfectly fine during my hour long service. She started with cleansing and steaming my face, then got to work using the microdermabrasion and hydration tools which felt like a small suction running up and down my face. I'd never had any type of dermabrasion done to my face before and was a little nervous about how uncomfortable it would feel, but the facial was virtually painless. My skin was feeling a little hot after the treatment, but luckily the next step was a cooling facial mask that smelled kind of like eucalyptus. Rebecca massaged my arms and neck while I had this on, which was my favorite part of the facial. She applied some cream as a finish at the end, and when I looked at my face again my skin looked notably less dull. My blackheads were no longer so visible, and even my pores seemed tighter. This facial was on the pricier side, but I was happy to learn that they have more inexpensive options like the glow and go facial - just $65. The spa itself is beautiful and brand new. It's a relaxing atmosphere which is hard to cultivate when you're stepping in off busy Steinway street. I will absolutely be back.
