probably one of the best fusion places i've ever been to. most fusion places i feel like they are trying WAY to hard to blend and mix to make it "fusion-y". i shared the general chile chicken (their version of general tso chicken) and the LA short-rib tacos with a coworker. the tacos ended up being too spicy for her, but not enough for me. they were VERY Delicious. the chicken was also good. it wasnt a copy of general tso and different enough where it made it interesting. the batter that it was fried in made it extra crunchy and the sauce was delish. we also ordered dragon whiskers to share with the table. delish. i think its fried zuchinni. they also have flavored teas and you can blend the flavors however you like. i got blueberry and pear mixed and it was DIVINE. read more

Popped in the other night & picked up their Panko Sweet & Sour chicken to go. My hubby & I were to share it so I was hoping the portion would be generous. I peeked into the box while paying & asked for a an extra portion of rice - the cup sized portion in the tray was not going to be enough for the two of us. I was more than happy to pay for the extra rice but they said it wasn't necessary, I thought that was nice. The portion of chicken was ample for two people & I was surprised to see the neat row of breaded chicken slices sitting next to the generous portion of green onions. The sauce came in a separate cup & I was happy to see chunks of pineapple floating around inside. After serving up the food onto 2 plates we still could have done with more rice & a tad bit more sauce & we are not big eaters. The meal itself was absolutely delicious! I'm a big fan of Hong Kong style Sweet & Sour but this dish was a pleasant & unexpected departure. The sauce was thin & perfectly sweetened. The green onions were a lovely compliment to the breaded chicken & light sauce, the rice perfectly cooked. Overall, I'm glad we gave Blue Bamboo a try. My only reservation stems from the pricing - the 1 person portion that we shared between us was $17 - to go back & buy 2 portions next time would be double that which is a bit steep for take-out chinese IMO but to be fair, they are not a take-out joint..but a restaurant (which was lovely inside btw). We will definitely go back & eat in but stick to our local chinese for take-outs. read more

This is one of our all time, favorite places. We came here Friday night after receiving horrible service at another restaurant and were hungry. It was a bit late for dinner, probably about 8 or so and the place wasn't packed but that made it nice. Hubby and I could easily talk and be heard, unlike some other places you might go. On this night we started with drinks--the cucumber smash and the penang posmopolitan. Both, as always, were delicious. They were light, crisp and refreshing which put us in a much better mood from our earlier restaurant troubles. We started with the chicken lettuce wraps. They were tasty and had just the right texture and flavor. As we were waiting for dinner we munched on the flat bread crackers and edamame spread that was brought out for us. I normally steer clear of bread; it's just an unnecessary filler to me, but that spread is delicious! Between my husband and I, we ate it all. Since we have been to Blue Bamboo frequently, I do have some favorites. Chef likes to change the menu (which is something I really appreciate) and what I was in the mood for was no longer on the menu. I asked our waitress if the kitchen could make some pad thai with chicken and it was no problem at all. It came out steaming hot, with just the right spicy kick and was delicious. My husband ordered the roast duck (one of his favorites) and it came out nicely prepared--juicy and succulent. We always have a great time and a fantastic meal at Blue Bamboo and this was no different. I always recommend this place to friends looking for something on the nicer side. On 07/24/16, My husband and I went there for the first time on Sunday for Dim Sum. It was crowded and very loud. Nothing fancy about this restaurant. First of all, this is Dim Sum Tapas. You order off a menu, they do not come around with a cart with the items. We are used to Hawaii and servers coming around with fresh Dim Sum. All Dim Sum: fried, steamed or baked is $5.95. To start with, we ordered 5 different items. The Shrimp Har Gow Dumplings were very, very small; about the size of my husbands thumb. The Pork and Spinach dumplings were also very small and coming apart. The Vegetable Spring Rolls were small in size, they had a nice taste to them. The dipping sauce was nothing special, sweet, a store bought item. We ordered the Singapore Curry Rice Noodles. We like curry, but this was so too hot. I think they forgot they already put the curry in and added double the amount. I drink a whole glass of iced tea, both our lips and mouth were burning. The 2 egg tarts tasted more like Flan. These looked like they were made from store bought pastry cups. Way over priced. We also, had the Red Bean Flaky Pastry. Not much flavor and were way under cooked. I actually took the rest of them home and finished cooking them in the toaster oven. Again, I do not think they made the pastry puff. Our server, was no where to be found. He never came back to check on our order. We had not rec'd the spring rolls and the water I asked for never came. He finally re-filled our ice tea. First, he said there wasn't any and still didn't bring the water I asked for. We were disappointed with the overall food prep, flavor, presentation and service. We thought it was way over priced for the amount of Dim Sum they give you. Our lunch bill was $51.00. We would not have minded paying that amount if we really felt it was worth it. We drove down from Amelia Island. We would not recommend and won't be back. If you are a type of person who expects exceptional food, this is not the place for you. Went to Blue Bamboo with coworkers for lunch on 2/15/2010. I even checked with the server before ordering the grilled chicken with sesame sauce. When the dish came out it was nothing more than 3 pieces of completely flavorless boiled chicken swimming in a pond of thick brown sauce with some rice. For $12 it is certainly the worst lunch from recent memory. read more

Had a good Yelp rating, not sure what all the people who gave glowing reviews were eating, but my food was BLAND. Place looked nice, started with some fairly tasty crackers, but the spread for them was virtually tasteless. It had color, it had texture, but it had almost no flavor. I even tasted it separate from the cracker because that struck me as so strange... oh, well. Egg rolls were overdone with a slightly burnt taste and look to them. Lunch menu was fairly limited (no idea if the selection was better for dinner, but will probably never know since I'm not going back), so I had the Szechaun Beef. It was decent, but not much better than average. I will say that the fried rice I had was pretty tasty, but that one good thing alone is not enough to ring me back. Service was about average, got our appetizer pretty quick but was a bit of a long wait for the entrees, especially at lunch time, when things should really move along fast. Also hard to get our waiter's attention once we were done. All in all, a slightly below average restaurant experience. My wife's opinion was pretty much identical to mine - it did not make our list of places to try again. read more

I went for Dim Sum. If you are looking for authentic Dim Sum, don't go here. The food is "to order." They don't walk around with rolling carts of food, as is typical of a Dim Sum restaurant. There were no sticky rice options on the menu! All of the dumplings and buns we ordered had barely any filling. The food tasted just okay. I can't speak to their lunch and dinner menu. read more

Had dinner with friends and family last night I have to say the ambience was wonderful and the stirfry red curry chicken was excellent, my wife had the sweet-and-sour chicken which she absolutely loved and our friends had the red curry shrimp and grits which they raved about. highly recommend this restaurant read more

The food was just okay. The service was great. The drinks were weak. For the higher prices of the meals, we were expecting a very different caliber of cuisine. Sweet and sour chicken was good enough, but I wouldn't order it again. My wife had the red curry shrimp and grit cakes which was bland and unimpressive. We were hopeful that Jacksonville might have good dim sum, so we gave Blue Bamboo a try for Sunday lunch today. For context, my wife is from Melbourne, Australia, and she grew up with yum cha's as they are called in that part of the world. We recently moved to Jacksonville from Atlanta, where Happy Valley on Jimmy Carter Blvd is still our idea of really good dim sum at great prices. Point is, we know good dim sum. This was a very disappointing experience. We started with tea - $8 for a "family serving" of hot oolong tea. Complete rip off for a few tea leaves (too weak) thrown into a metal pot. I've paid a fraction of that at any other Chinese restaurant. The dumplings, at $5.99 for 2 or 3 pieces, seemed like grocery store freezer quality, and there were no interesting options, like shark fin for instance. I will say that the panko coated curry beef balls were nice, but still overpriced. The $11.95 service of 1/4 roast duck was more bone than meat. (FYI - I recommend Hawker's Asian Street Fare as the best duck in Jacksonville.) Service was sh%t. I had to go to the bar to get ice water, when the water I requested never arrived. I could see the waitress doing something with restocking napkins, so I knew she had completely forgotten. We will not go back, and had to go to Jimmy John's on the way home to get something to fill our tummies. Avoid unless you like overpriced, plastic food. read more

The description for 2 stars is "Meh, I've experienced better". That pretty much sums up my experience here. Either their lunch isn't as good as their dinner or I ate somewhere entirely different then the rest of the reviewers here. I found the menu to be rather boring and limited as well as there were no descriptions of the food. (at the restaurant anyways). We tried their famous dragon whiskers(fried zucchini with a ranch dipping sauce) and the pork egg rolls. I found both to be very greasy as if the oil they used for frying was not hot enough and my egg roll had a piece of fatty pork that I was unable to chew( I ended up spitting it out). For my entrée I had the Moo goo chicken. It was a white sauce similar to chow mein with some broccoli, bok choy and maybe a carrot here in there. It was extremely bland and boring. I felt that I could have gotten the same thing at a Chinese take out for $4.95 which would have been much cheaper, more plentiful and it would have came with an egg roll and fried rice! My friend ordered the Coconut shrimp stir fry which sounded really interesting. Sadly it turned out to be just some shrimp and vegetables doused in coconut milk. Also extremely bland. I don't see myself returning unless maybe someone else is paying lol. read more

First time eating at this wonderful place last night and it was outstanding. My husband ordered the duck and said it was really good. A friend ordered the ribs and they were huge and she said they were delicious. I had the sweet and sour chicken and it was the best I've ever had. Everything tasted very fresh, and my chicken was not bogged down by a lot of sauce. It was just perfect. All of the appetizers we ordered were also excellent. Service was top notch too ! We live in the Ortega area of Jacksonville so it was quite a drive during a busy time of day (6 p.m.) but it was well worth the drive. I can't wait to go back and try something else. read more

I was excited to come try their dim sum,but it was a disappointment! Not good tasting dim sum for expensive price! The Shumai tastes like the ones from the Buffet, and it also sticks on the plate it's like undercook. the noodles is still hard. I won't be coming coming back!! read more

My wife and I had lunch at the blue bamboo today. We ordered the crab Rangoon. My wife ordered the coconut shrimp stir fry and I the sweet and sour chicken. The ran goons were good, everything else had no seasoning and was tasteless. The sweet and sour chicken was way to sweet. Too pricey for the quality of the food. read more

Fried calamari was literally swimming in oil. Tuna ceviche was chewy and tasteless. Based on these appetizers we did not order an entree. At least the waitress took the apps off of our check, so we only had to pay for our two weak cocktails. I went here last night to try out Ramen Night. It's hard to get good ramen in Jacksonville and this isn't the place to get it either. The ramen was undercooked with very little broth. The broth itself wasn't flavorful, and the items in the ramen such as the egg and bamboo were not tasty (both pickled). Another member of my party had the Sweet and Sour Chicken and it was poor as well; the chicken was overcooked and the Sweet and Sour sauce was just sugary with no flavor. Not impressed. For years my wife and I were curious to try this place, it kept showing up on recommenced places, so this valentine's we made a reservation and went there. The wait wasn't too awful, but they seemed to have opened up the other part of the restaurant that looks like it was meant for business meetings just for this holiday. So the ambience/environment or what have you was eh, not fantastic, white walls, white office type ceiling tiles, they tried to decorate it but you can only do so much. The price were high for what I found to be mediocre food, $39 for Red Snapper and $42 for Chateaubriand Steak, both were OK, but far from amazing. The server also brought out the wrong dish, she brought Chino Latino Pork instead of Red Snapper which I don't know how that could be misheard. In addition the girl refilling the water had a runny nose and sniffles something awful. My total bill was around $120 after tip and I have eaten at places for $75 or less that I had much better experience. read more

Went here on Valentine's day with a 8:00 reservation. They were COMPLETELY disorganized and we were ushered into a banquet room with some couches used as a waiting room which uncomfortably faced those dining in that area (so we waited outside.) Yes it was very cold but better than staring at people eating. We didn't get seated until 8:30. When we were finally seated, we weren't greeted for another 15 minutes. We finally ordered drinks and an appetizer. It took another ten minutes to get a glass of wine. We ordered a caprese appetizer and it was pathetic; a handful of heirloom tomatoes, three pieces of mozzarella and two leaves of basil. Ridiculous and flavorless. We ordered and 40 minutes passed. Then the waitress comes over and says she has an embarrassing question to ask us. "have you already eaten your dinner?" Both our mouths dropped open. Are you kidding me??? We told her no and after she left we both agreed that she could've handled that in many different ways however the owner/management told her to ask us that. She told us she was going to have them rush our order. At this point it was 10 o'clock p.m. We get our food. I ordered a Chino Latino pork which was very good and my husband ordered the Vietnamese Tra Fish. His was also good but simply not worth the price they charge. The waitress offered us complimentary dessert to go and when at 10:55 we got home the desserts were two macaroons, two cupcakes and a strange red gel with strawberries on top. We tried everything and the cupcakes were way too sweet with a mountain of frosting. We had ordered the dessert sampler which advertised a french silk pie. There wasn't a pie but a tart in the shape of a heart with the chocolate silk part piped into it. Very deceiving especially with the cost. In all it was an amusing yet very disappointing experience. We felt bad for our waitress so she was well compensated. We won't ever go back. read more
