Yummy! Blue Barn has all the aesthetics of a country barn with a city restaurant twist. I came on my by with a few friends to enjoy a heaping bowl of salad and a side of one (or maybe two pieces of bread). I thought the salad was a huge portion, but of course, it was sold at a premium price. Nonetheless, the salad was fresh, the vibe was nice, and overall, the experience was enjoyable. I find myself liking these "fast-casual" type of restaurants, because it's easier to deal with who-pays-what during a friends lunch/dinner at a restaurant. Who has been there before? You know what I'm talking about. At the end of an enjoyable meal, the server slams you with the check and then everyone is frantically trying to calculate what they ordered i.e., appetizers, drinks, higher/lower priced entree, etc. It just gets too complicated and I'd rather not deal with the added stress. I would sign a petition to have more fast-casual restaurants in SF and better yet have fast-fancy restaurants! Count me in! read more

A great place for a relatively quick and easy bite! Blue Barn is my go-to for a casual lunch for salads and sandwiches. There is almost always enough seating at this location, but its also a great place to pick up to-go and take for a picnic. The rooster chicken sandwich is my all time favorite. I will say the portions are very generous, as they should be for the price you pay. My favorite salad is the winter salad but I tried the tostada salad this time with added avocado and salmon ($23.50) plus tax and tip . But worth it!!! Maybe it is just good timing on my part, but whenever I go to this location the service is great and there is not a crowd of people bumping into each other as there is at the Polk St. location. Food is fresh and consistent and service is very friendly. There is a semi-outdoor area in the back. I never call to order so I have not experienced the problems people are reporting about phone orders. Pro Tip: When you order a salad order it with ranch dressing on the side, that way you do not have to pay the extra .75 they charge if you order ranch dressing with fries. There is plenty of dressing in the cup for salad and fries. Ketchup is free. read more

Hair in my salad.... twice :( Ordered 3 salads to-go for me and the family. I got home and found an awful surprise atop my lettuce. Since I am 45 minutes away already (and hungry)and the other two seemed fine, I removed the hair and the top layer of lettuce and went about pretending it didn't happen. I loved blue barn and usually go to the smaller one on chestnut but came to this location because the chestnut location doesn't serve soup. We ordered and sat in the back area. As i'm almost done with my meal i see something crawling up the wall INSIDE the restaurant right outside the kitchen area. IT WAS A RAT!! I was so freaked out and shocked that I just watched it crawl up the wall and walk around a ledge until it disappeared. Checking yelp I realize that this wasn't the first time a rat was in the restaurant. This time it was during the day at around 1pm. Well, I was eating here oh say 3 times a week but a recent experience has turned me off to the place for good. The salads are good if overpriced, but the service recently was so bad I have to say it isn't worth it. I suspected the employees are dimwitted and lazy but their failure to be able to wash a bowl to serve me a salad "because the dishwasher" is broken was the limit. The salads are humongous-way more than anyone person should or could eat. It would be great if they offered half portions. Honestly, I want to love blue barn but it's just so damn expensive and the quality/toppings portions are inconsistent. Some days I've had excellent salads with the toppings portions id expect for $16-22 salad. Other days the greens have some nasty pieces and toppings are skimpy. I have to say service has been much friendlier as opposed to about a year ago. But I wish their quality and portions were consistent. Also dressing is inconsistent as well. Some days regular is perfect, some days it's soaked! Ask for light and some days it's perfect, some days half of the salad is dry! Same with dressing on the side, sometimes they give you a full container which gives some flexibility. Some days they give you half and it's not enough. WOW! What a place! I got the tostada salad and added the rooster chicken which was great. Chase got a Chinese chicken salad which he also liked. Also wow he got chicken fingers from the kids menu and they were honestly the best chicken fingers I've ever had! Kind of bad because now whenever I come back I'm going to want to eat them instead of a good healthy salad. The salads are also great though and huge so I took half home and ate it for dinner. The food is really good. Sandwiches are tasty, but a little sloppy so grab some napkins. A bit on the pricy side, but you're in the Marina. Really disappointing that their online/phone ordering is so bad. Half the time they never pick up. It's like they don't want your business. Not sure what the deal is... poor service and unreliable. Ever since the re-model, this place emerged from a small marina gem to a marina staple. For the most part, staff is pretty friendly (Chelsea is amazing and always extremely helpful.)! But, the food is what makes this place great! Sandwiches, salads, a lot of decent options. However, the french fries are my favorite! I would love if there were a couple more vegan/vegetarian options, but the falafel sandwich and the current veggie salads are delicious choices for the vegetarians out there! read more

Ate lunch at this Blue Barn location today, spent almost $50 on 2 salads and 2 drinks. One person in my party wanted an organic dish, so she went next door and grabbed a meal to-go and came back to join us. Half way through our overpriced meal, a VERY rude employee came over and scolded us for having food from another restaurant there. He was not only extremely rude, he was condescending, disrespectful and embarrassed us. We were absolutely floored. We pointed this out to the manager who was apologetic and as we walked out, very upset, the rude employee could have cared less and snubbed us again. If that was their policy, fine. But to be so rude about it was APPALLING. We didn't get the employee's name, but it was a young male with a bit of a foreign accent on the afternoon of 3/11/18. My husband and I's favorite San Francisco Eatery. Sandwiches are unique and delicious, haven't had a salad yet, but the side fries and the side salad is perfect. Cutest atmosphere, love sitting in the outside area. My favorite is the Barn BLT, my husband switches between the Rooster and Buffalo Chicken. Only $1.75 for the side salad or fries. Salads are delicious though morbidly expensive. Service might be ok if they tried, but they operate by the Blue Barn Rules: customer is often wrong and picking up the phone is a major inconvenience that no employee should have to deal with. Blue Barn still has a booming business but at some point a competition will realize that it's not that hard to make a nice fresh salad for under $18 and pick up the phone when a customer wants to support your business. read more
