Strange that they have two locations right next to each other, practically. Anyway, came here for lunch Saturday morning. I ordered the spring mixed salad with tuna tartare, came out to be $24, which was mind-blowing for a salad. However, when the salad came out I was impressed. It is a very big portion, I was stuffed from a salad, that never happens. The salad and tuna tasted very fresh. There were flowers in my salad, and I felt like I was eating a garden (in a good way). However, as nice as it was, $24 still feels pretty steep for a salad with some protein. It should've been $16 max. So, I would've given 4 stars, but the pricing is definitely a rip off. Probably the worst service I have ever experienced. I love Blue Barn and haven't been in for a while and was so surprised to receive such rude service. She informed me I got less toppings then I actually do with the included price of the salad. She also messed up three peoples orders right after one another, and tried to charge me an extra $10 for the items she forgot to charge me for. First off let me say their food is good don't get me wrong, BUT they increased the prices significantly and did not increase the level of customer service they are providing you. The interactions are very minimal and similar to an interaction you would have with a worker at McDonald's. If you're going to charge someone $15 for a sandwich you should AT LEAST have good customer service to back it up. I recently ordered the Beets and Green salad and was given a hard time for substituting feta cheese for goat cheese and even had to pay an extra fee. The salads are great, I would say some of the best in the area. That being said, they are also expensive. In addition, I have on multiple occasions walked out with multiple items missing from my salad, despite the fact that someone typically checks over it before they give it to you. The first time it happened, they comped a salad for me no questions asked, which was appreciated. The second and third times, it starts getting old, and harder to continually bring up. Finally, while some of the staff are great, others are not shy about being rude to you. Also tough when shelling out $40 for two salads and being asked to tip. Avoid this sneaky, entitled and desperate business at all cost! The short Asian female cashier with the worst mean face and attitude always messes up my take out orders on purpose. She overcharges customers with bags fees and extra salad dressings but purposely put extra dressings containers inside the salad to take up 1/3 space. For my other salad, she didn't even give me the extra dressing I had to pay extra for. When I confronted her, she fought back aggressively and argued like a bitch. It's been the second time she's targeted me like this. I'm sure she's done this to other customers as well to ruin the business. Make sure you check your foods entirely for the correct items and ingredients before you leave this restaurant. I will never come back again to deal with this bad service until the owner apologizes, rehires and retrains the poorly behaved staff. Black slug on my plate! I ordered the turkey sandwich, which I have had before at another Blue Barn location. Half way through eating the sandwich, I saw something moving on my plate. It was a small black slug! I asked to speak with the manager who told me that they use organic produce so it's a possibility/happens; she was apologetic and offered to make me something else to eat. I of course declined. I did not take a photo but I really wish I had (left my phone in the car). The manager refunded me for the sandwich and while I appreciated that, I would have preferred my entire meal to have been refunded (my husband's sandwich and our drinks). I believe if they wash their produce throughly, these situations can be avoided. I personally wash organic produce I purchase in a salt bath. Sadly, all Blue Barn locations are crossed off my list of places to eat. read more

I used to love everything about this place, until I found out every single salad dressing has CANOLA OIL in it instead of olive oil. It is not an understatement that when I am visiting my family in SF that I eat Blue Barn at least once or twice a week. My favorites include the spicy tuna salad, fattoush salad with rooster chicken, the tostada salad, the new fried chicken sandwich, the rooster sandwich and the kickin chicken. I've never had a sandwich or salad that I don't like here and I am endlessly sad that they took the curried chicken salad off the menu recently, that was my all time fave! The new location is great for a solo meal or casual meal with family/friends. It's also great that they serve wine and beer. The rice krispie treats (namely the peanut butter) are also great for dessert. Blue Barn is great, but definitely on the more expensive side for lunch in the area. read more

So disappointed they have removed my favorite ingredient (avocado) from my favorite salad (Cobber) and also now have a mixed lettuce instead of Romaine only. In addition, no more nicely diced chicken but now something that looks like Deli meat...yet they charge the same. For nearly $17+ with tax the cutback in ingredients is too much for me. Love this place! I used to go to the Chestnut location all the time. It is really small and sometimes hard to find a seat so I am so excited that there's a new location with lots of seating! They have an entire seating area in the back with lots of natural light. They pulled off the barn theme really well here and it has such a quaint cozy vibe. The food is always delicious! My go to is the beets and greens but just tried the spicy ahi salad for the first time... amazing!! The ingredients are always so fresh and delicious! Also, they have kombucha on tap! yum! I was dining in couple of days ago and I decided to go with the salad. And I got to choose everything I wanted and I am very disappointed of what I got. ALL the products didn't seem to be fresh at all. The lettuce was saggy and other items seemed like they have sat for a while. The chicken literally was the worst, it tasted like it very cheap microwaved chicken. I wouldn't recommend anyone visiting this store. It is overpriced cheap quality food! Salads are pretty good. However, I have ordered the Cobber salad the last two times and they forgot my dressing both times. For the overpriced salads, they should be able make sure everything is executed at 100%. They even have additional staff to double check to go orders and they can't even get it right. read more

I have been going to Blue Barn both in San Francisco and Marin for quite a while now. I was there just the other day and treated a friend to a salad along with getting one myself. When the young lady told me the price, I almost fainted. $42 for two salads, are you freaking kidding me. I think this place thinks it's the state government and hikes up their prices on their salads just like the CA government does with their gas prices. Where do they get off charging those prices. I guess the people in SF don't mind paying those crazy prices, but I'm never going there again. I remember paying $30 for those same two salads and thought, oh well they are a pretty good salad, so I never complained. But $42 F that. Oh and I almost forgot they charged me $1.50 for extra dressing for the two salads, Just plain nuts....and SF employer mandate tax $1.64, wow. read more

My wife and I spotted this restaurant while on an SF City Guides tour of the architecture of the Marina District. We initially throughly the prices for its salads and sandwiches were on the high side, but when the waiter delivered my turkey sandwich and my wife's Kale Caesar salad, we were blown away by the generous size of the entrees. And the quality of the ingredients was first rate. The turkey was the real McCoy, and the goat cheese and pesto sauce were superb. The ciabatta role was out of this world. I ate half and took home the other half for a later meal. We would definitely return in the future. read more
