So I'm not a Vermonter and definitely not a Benningtonian...actually my first trip to Vermont visiting friends. Was kinda shocked to see a diner and even more shocked when I drove up and was transported back in time. Like this is a real old time diner with the counter and stools and juke boxes at the tables! What a pleasant surprise. The best part of course was the service AND the food. The food was excellent and the portion sizes were hefty hefty hefty. I did the bagel melt with bacon instead of ham and they did it up right!! I ate every morsel including the mildly seasoned well cooked home fries. The bagel had the right toasted crunch to it, the sandwich was not oily and thus my clothes were spared. The egg was perfectly fried and the bacon lover in me was in heaven because it was not salty and my extra bacon was the right portion. My friend's plate was also done well and he ate every bit. I took off one star for the following: The booths are not for us larger people and so it was quite a squeeze (in and out) and I should have sat on a counter stool but that did not look any more comfortable for the tush. Also, the entrance was not ramped and thus not handicapped accessible. Otherwise, I would have given the place a 5 and if ever in Vermont again, will definitely stop by...I may even go by again before I leave the state. Great meal and experience.

Amazing little diner!!! For starters, the interior was very quaint and mostly original, the bathrooms were very clean, (something you don't always get with diners). The staff were also very friendly, you could tell they put passion into the food they made and the service they gave. The chicken fajita omelette was amazing, very well cooked and flavorful with some good hot sauce. The home fries were amazing as well, very fresh. I recommend this place if you're in Bennington, or are on the way up north for a ski trip, it's such a great little spot!

This is our third time in the area, once again our meal was fabulous, I should've but I did order a piece of coconut cream pie, and I have to say it was absolutely amazing. I've not tasted coconut cream pie that good since I was a child and my mother used to make it homemade. This diner is very cute and the staff does an outstanding job. I will always drive an hour out of my way to eat here.

"If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It!" The restaurant was built in 1948 in New Jersey as a railroad dining-car styled restaurant and was moved here in the 1950s. Not much has changed. They have a HUGE menu and it seemed like most of the folks in here at 7 am on a weekday were locals. Which was just fine for me. It was pretty quiet so the waitress didn't mind me sitting in a booth by myself. When I left an hour later, it still wasn't that busy. I looked over the menu, looked over the jukebox (Johnny Cash, Lee Greenwood and Garth Brooks on the same page?) before ordering an omelet. Quickly prepared and served with delicious toast and amazing home fries. Very well stuffed omelet and yes, I did eat a couple of the potatoes because I couldn't help myself. The coffee was great and I went through three cups of it before cutting myself off. Friendly, cozy, local. Stop in! [Review 18458 overall - 58 in Vermont - 1980 of 2022.]

Not to be dramatic but this was the best diner experience I've ever had in my life! They have a small waiting area and will let you know when a booth is ready for the next party. They also have seats at the counter that you can help yourself to if available. We decided to order a lot since the locals we met waiting said this place is amazing. The inside is very cute and cozy. We ordered the eggs Benedict, biscuits and gravy and a crunch berry pancake. All were so delicious! The coffee was also great. Would absolutely come back if we are in the area again!

A cozy place to get breakfast and yeah, it will get really cozy in the mornings so plan accordingly. It was a Sunday morning so I waited 30-40 minutes before getting sat down simply because there were no seats left even at the counter. I even watched some childish people argue over one of the chairs. People must really like the food here. Service was quick despite being extremely busy and this diner served diner quality food. So yes it was nothing special but that's what diners are for. I expect this and nothing else. Good job. My biscuits and gravy tasted just like how it does when the Army serves it in the dining facility. I approved of this meal. No shortage of sausage and the gravy wasn't too thick. Biscuits were dry enough to soak up this gravy so it all works out very well. My eggs were eggs. Again, no secrets here. The only secret was my girlfriend's omelet. She asked for Swiss Cheese and she barely got any. From the outside you would hope it was one of those omelets where the surprise is inside the box as you can see, it just looks like a plain egg. There was no shortage of bacon and spinach however, the cheese did look a little light for anyone's liking. It looks like it was sprinkled into the egg like a dash of salt. I'm sure being extremely busy with a long line of people waiting to be seated could have been a factor but it only takes a second. Hopefully this was a one time thing. Other than that, Blue Benn is busy for a reason! Local favorite and tourists can't find anywhere else to eat in the morning. I'd come again next time I go camping and don't feel like inhaling campfire smoke all morning which is exactly how I ended up here in the first place.

Good food, but old school. No gloves in the kitchen and no hair nets. If your not squeamish, worth the wait.

Everything is really fresh, and made to order. The fish is freshly battered (so are the shrimp), and the portions are great. I also recommend the burgers, they are not anything crazy gourmet, but they are fresh, and for only a little more than the place with the arches down the road, you get something that you know is real, freshly prepared, and on an amazing bun. The chicken tenders are the only thing that's just kinda OK, but only because they don't make them in-house. They work for a picky kid, but otherwise stick with the other stuff on the menu. I haven't tried the pies, but they are freshly made there too. There is also a little assortment of British food and candy there, which might be something a little fun that you don't normally find here. Not a great spot to bring a big group, but very worth stopping in if you want a quick bite while you are passing through downtown Bennington.

I ended up leaving angry and literally cried.... Their online ordering has a Reuben with an option for $2 extra meat & a note box so I cld have written there asking for the extra portion on the side. EASY. Yet, I went in person to see what the specials were hoping for a great lunch, because Im here for medical procedures at the hospital and had fasted since the day before. Id never been to The Elm Street Market before, but it was close to the hospital, & love Vermont markets for all the years I have lived here. But THIS place :: T E R R I B L E mistake! The employee at the counter was as fake & uncaring as it gets, & shld definitely not be the customer guy. He would not just let the added side be $2 , but wanted to weigh it out & charge me for a deli style $6 sliced side in a package as an addition to the $14 sandwich. ($20 Reuben?!) I said I didn't need or expect a package of sliced cold meat, that I was just adding the side portion to share with my pups. For Lunch. He just becomes patronizing, dense, & fully lacking capacity or willingness to help and says he "can't bc it just doesn't work that way" unless I get it on the sandwich. I cld order it online but not with him at register. And for some reason he cant figure out a $2 portion of meat. Surreal Incompetence. The next level of downhill not-so-fun is seeing the tiny soup. A cup of soup for $8. A latte "special" that I cld not even taste the smoked maple flavor and was only 3/4 full. It's actually shocking- what happened to actually CARING about just helping ppl have a good experience if you are working in the restaurant business as a small local independent market? Hey Elm Street Market Fella, you cld do the simplest things like not try ripping ppl off & being kind! His patronizing attitude & lack of capacity really took it over the top- how am I supposed to enjoy this $36 ordeal? Supposedly he is refunding the meat, bc I explained I didn't order a package of meat. He took it out of bag & literally said "take your sandwich & drink & go". I was upset~ I said this is truly unacceptable ~ try some Kindness & Authenticity! And left. The other young lady who was working that day & witnessed this whole debacle seemed to feel bad making 'Im So Sorry' faces. She at least offered me a dollop of maple syrup & noted the drink was not filled~ but also was being oppressed by his attitude. I cld tell he was being an overbearing tyrant. Wtf - this is NOT Vermont as it should be DUDE. All it took was putting a few slices on the side for $2 & filling up a drink. Ridiculous.
