The food was very good. My companions both had chicken salad sandwiches and they said it was one of the best they had ever had. I had the grilled cheese and tomato with regular cheddar instead of smoked. It was good. But almost too cheesy for me. I ordered a biscuit and a sugar donut because the donuts looked amazing and I heard someone commenting on the biscuits. The biscuit was ok but not fabulous. The donut was amazing. Wish I could have brought some home with me. For out of town visitors, the process to wait for a booth could be improved. It's on you to assess who is at the end of the line. Except it's not a line. It's a very small porch that gets very crowded. Seats at the counter are first come, first served. It really wouldn't be hard to have a list of names of those waiting. Stopped by for breakfast before headed out to ski. Great little local place, warm and inviting. Mostly local loyal clientele, old style small juke boxes at various places. It's not a front but the real thing. Converted rail car, they made really good use of the room. It's not shiny or fancy but an honest hard working functional diner. Respect. Got the sausage gravy with biscuit platter by recommendation my Heidi. It was on point. Good coffee, by diner standards. I'm now ready for the day. Can't really speak to the food as we never got in to be seated. I understand it's a small space and that when it's busy, you'll have to wait however, as soon as I walked in to the entryway, not even into the actual diner section, there was a staff member at the door with a scowl on her face, making comment and I quote " some customers think their staff" as she was ushering quite forcibly two people back out the door who mistakenly believed they had been called in to be seated. A very nice place, with limited seating and a very long wait on the weekends! The service was quick and the menu was extensive. They frequently have specials posted on the counter. My friends and I were super excited about the working jukeboxes in the booths, and it made the wait worth it! I got a traditional breakfast with eggs, sausage and home fries. The sausage was patties typically used on sandwiches, which I wasnt expecting. My friends got some of the specialty items like the breakfast burrito, the cinnamon bun french toast, and the raspberry chocolate chip pancakes. It is cash only!! read more

We visited the Blue Benn on Sept 8. It was very crowded so we sat at the counter. The food was ok. However the staff for the most part were the rudest people we've EVER encountered. Our waitress did not greet us. No smile. Just stood there to take our order. Another server delivered our food. Our waitress never spoke to us again. To make matters worse every group that entered the diner was was loudly told to wait in the foyer. No welcome. Just get out until we get space for you. The quality of the food was so over shadowed by these pathetic employees we would never recommend this place to anyone. It was certainly not their pleasure to serve anyone.! read more

Food is exceptional. Service is gruff and curt, coming from NYC that's saying something. However, if you treat staff with kindness and respect, they warm up to you. By the 6th time we dined there, staff looked forward to seeing us and we were warmly received. The entire country has been hit hard with COVID and as such, businesses all along the Eastern seaboard are struggling to survive, due to an extreme labor shortage and lack of patronage. To expect service and food to be anything like you're accustomed to pre-March 2020 is unrealistic and insensitive to the food service and hospitality industry. Worth keeping that in mind so that you don't make the folks who ARE showing up lives' miserable with your douchery. Kindness goes a long way on both sides of the table. read more

I just love this place; my husband says it's OK. That's ok because he's from NJ and thinks he knows diners better. To him, diners have menus that are 20 pages long and full of options. He likes to switch it up because he gets bored quickly. BBD's menu is just a few pages long, but for me that means that they stick to what they know. And what they know is good food! We have been several times and all my breakfasts have been great. The waitresses (Heidi and Bridgette, I think?) are friendly, welcoming and helpful. The atmosphere is small town chill. I am going to work myself up to ordering the turkey dinner one of these days because, well, turkey dinner! Until then, I will continue to enjoy outstanding food and service at the BBD! read more

Stopped here for a late breakfast on our drive about New England. This was a real bonus to our dining memories. IT WAS EXCELLENT! There is no putting you name on the list for a table and you are on the honor system when you arrive. We were greeted by an entry way of hungry travelers who also told us that if there was room at the counter, you could go there right away!! What better way to interact with the wait staff and get a birds eye view of what makes this place tic! We sat down r We enjoyed multi berry pancakes with real Vermont Syrup ( 1.50 extra) along with scrambled eggs, bacon and I had Corned Beef, Eggs, Home Fries and Oat Toast. The Blue Benn Diner has just reopened. Went for breakfast Sunday and ordered two omelettes. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Omelette which comes with breakfast potatoes. This was one of the most delicious omelettes I've had in a very long time. The potatoes were cooked just right. Very filling and delicious meal for a reasonable price. We'll be back again soon. It was absolutely worth it making a pit stop at Blue Benn for lunch. Don't miss this fantastic, old school diner if you are in the area! Housed in what looks like an old train car, seating is minimal so we were happy to snag two seats at the bar. Every booth has a jute box, so we bought a couple of songs for 25 cents to get in the spirit. The walls are full of specials, in addition to the massive menu. It is extremely difficult to choose what to order because everything sounded great and all the food coming out of the kitchen looked incredible! We eventually settled on a cup of the flavorful French onion soup to start. Next I had the homemade veggie burger served on a pita - out of this world and it kept me full for hours and hours! My boyfriend loved his dish too, which was turkey hash with perfectly poached eggs and toast. The waitstaff could not have been friendlier and we loved every second of our time in this wonderful diner. And it is the most inexpensive meal I've had in a long, long time! read more

Stopped on a Tuesday afternoon and the diner was near empty. While the food was up to its usual standards the service was not. Our waitress Syd was inattentive and spent most of her time eating behind the counter and studying her phone. When I motioned for her attention to get condiments not at my booth she replied with a curt 'I'm coming' as I had apparently interrupted her phone time. Not sure why this place gets such good reviews, the food is good but the entire dining area could use a good cleaning, grime and food on the floors. Blue Benn - the sandwich named after the place, you would think it would be really good to great. If was a grilled wrap of spinach, roasted red pepper, and mozzarella. Bah humbug. I needed something to bring me comfort and joy. And I found it. Did you ever eat something that felt like a warm hug??? I did - it was the Turkey Pot Pie ($7.95) at the Blue Benn Diner. Thick gravy surrounding mixed veg and tender cubes of roasted bird, a tender flakey crust with a side of fresh, sweet, creamy slaw. I finished that hug and gave my empty plate a big kiss. Foodie Friend got a friendly squeeze from a really good Blue Benn Burger ($6.75) with American, served with a side of homemade fries . She salted with a gentle hand and loved every bite. Jag melted over her Roast Beef Melt ($8.50), a pile of warm, tender medium sliced beef topped with sauteed mushrooms and onions and melted cheddar and horseradish sauce. A big sandwich filled with love (and a side of friendly slaw). This old diner car is cool, and overheated, and the seating is tight, but the customers are friendly and so is the staff. Nothing fancy, just really good food at a very fair price. The menu is extensive, but do look up at the wall over the counter for even more specials. We stopped at Blue Benn after years of hearing about it, and we weren't disappointed. It was a drizzly December morning, and the place was totally full. I was amazed at the breadth of the regular menu and the posted specials, which were displayed all over the walls on multi-colored pieces of paper. There was also a white board with daily specials, and after a lot of deliberation I chose my breakfast from that menu: a black bean and pepper-jack omelet, topped with guacamole. I can't say enough good things about that omelet. I had blinked once or twice after ordering, and my food arrived promptly thereafter. It was positively stuffed with velvety black beans, which were cooked perfectly. The jack cheese was melted and gooey, but it didn't overpower everything. And the guac was delicious. For such a filling meal, it never felt heavy or overwhelming, and it kept me going for the rest of the day. Prices are reasonable, and you can get a good dose of old-fashioned-diner-medicine if you sit at the counter. Blue Benn is part of a dying breed of eateries. Don't miss out (but definitely stop at an ATM first). read more

I threw up after eating at this restaurant . I ordered pie which tasted like window cleaner. I had also taken a piece of pie to go which tasted as bad and I couldn't eat I either of them. Even the coleslaw was unpalatable. Sadly when I called the restaurant to tell them about my experience there was no offer of recompense or even remorse. I am appalled, probably the worst experience I've ever had with a restaurant. Sadly this used to be a great diner when I frequented it as a college student. Apparently under new owner ship. I wasn't expecting too much from this touristy-looking, grungy little diner, and I was starting to fear the worst when we entered and there was some terrible rotten stench. We pushed through anyway to look at the menus, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a half page of vegetarian entrees like chili and meatloaf! I got the latter, which turned out to be a pretty decent grain-based thing, and got it with mashed potatoes, which were amazingly buttery. And the menu!! , WELL they have: all the standard fabby diner breakfasts, fresh squeezed orange juice, all the pies, "Better Than Sex Cake", donuts, all the grill sandwiches, a good measure of gourmet entrees, and then 8.5" x 11" papers hanging from the bottom of the moldings all the way around the diner, and these are flyers listing the names of dishes a patron suggested that made the cut with the clientelle and were therefore kept "on the menu" ..... We were in Bennington at lunch time and saw this old style dinner. It is all metal outside like the ones from another era. To our surprise it was full and we had to wait a few minutes to be seated. Good diner food. Got my usual diner grilled cheese, enjoyed it, not too much butter. Chocolate cream pie was huge and really good. I didn't really love the apple crumble...way more crumble than apple, it was like a bowl of mushy sugar. Wish they'd had apple pie instead. Only complaint would be the dude working in the kitchen screaming his head off constantly. I don't know if he doesn't realize customers can hear all this noise (OVER the music, mind you), or maybe he just doesn't care, but it was kinda obnoxious.
