Started in such a good note. Very accommodating for seating then after 100 mess ups Im Speechless. Told us they could do a dirty martini and after 4 tries of the wrong drink they told my friend they didn't have olive juice. Missed drinks, extra food on the check that were never ordered. They messed up so many orders between drinks and food and waited over an hour to get the check they told us they could split and then at the end couldn't. I can honestly say I've never had such a shitty experience. Also the steak looked pretty but then full of fat and thin and served in a water down sausage gravy that needed salt. Dry meatballs. Polite staff terrible skills. Also we were in 2 tables but were the only tables. I've never left a bad review but this is terrible. I've never had a worse experience and all 13 of us have never been so disappointed. read more

This is Rick's Cafe without Major Strasser and with better food. We first had the Mosaic appetizer which is all the small mezes-perfectly done: beets, potatoes, hummus, eggplant, lightly grilled flatbread. Excellent. We ate every bite. We mostly ordered from the Tapas menu: the chicken, the salmon, falafel, moroccan meatballs, and the spinach and cheese filo rolls, quick fried--SOO GOOD, all of it. They have a wonderfully light and creative dip of pureed dates, almonds, and coconut that tastes like chocolate for dessert. We love this place, can't wait to go back. We came early, got to know the owner (if you speak French, that's a help), and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. This is a gem that, thankfully, has nothing to do with the Halloween fetish that has throttled Salem. I've eaten across Turkey and North Africa, and this restaurant would fit in nicely in Casablanca, Algiers, or even Marseilles. Great dining experience and really, not expensive for what you get. read more

Pretty disapointed- I'm no Moroccan food expert but wasn't too impressed and felt it was high for the combo of food, service and setting. Was offered bread when seated and when it finally came, it was ok but a tiny 6in "loaf" about an inch thick. Flavor was in between a white dinner roll and an egg bread. Didn't think much about it until it was on the bill. Had the Marrakech salad and falafel as shared apps. Salad was tasty but really small. Falafels were really small too, 4 golf balls on just a smidge of hummus with harissa. Outside was really dark and hard but still pretty moist inside and decent seasoning. A B rating. My wife really wanted to try the Lentil soup and couldn't have been more disappointed. It was really, really bland and thin. Not a good effort and it actually went back. Mains were OK, Tagine Marakesh, Chicken Fassi and Sultans Meshui. All were cooked nicely and the chicken was nice and tender, not dried out. Seasoning was really lacking in all though, good thing my Meshui came with Harissa or it would have just been grilled steak and chicken. Steak medallions were good quality, tender and not overcooked but really plain. Everything sounded good on the menu and the sweet/ savory combos could have been interesting but weren't really. Not my thing but my wife and daughter like that but were left kind of flat with their dishes. All servings were pretty small, enough but not generous. The bill made us a bit uncomfortable, the soup was still on it as was a $14 cocktail no-one had. Didn't expect $3.75 for the equivalent of a couple dinner rolls. It's ok but they should have mentioned it wasn't gratis. They took the soup and cocktail off but with no drinks it was still $125 for 3. Kind of steep for mediocre food. Help is tight but we waited, a lot, and could see our waitress on her phone most of the time and there were only 5 other diners. Decor wasn't awful but it wasn't nice either. So we'll pass on going back but it might be a good change of pace for someone tired of the other fare in the area. read more

Live in the area and went here tonight for the first time for takeout (f*** covid). Stuff was all excellent. Had the Sultan's Meshoui and this place does lamb and chicken so good, apparently. If I had known it was this good I'd have been coming here once a month for the past year. Upon entering this establishment, my first thought was to turn around and leave and I regretted not doing so. It went south from the beginning and they absolutely gas lighted us. Three women trying to serve us with no communication between them and everything that went wrong somehow turned out to be our fault. My friend and I had been wanting to try Blue Fez for months. We are both residents of Salem. We decided to stop in for lunch. We were greeted by a woman who told us she would be our waitress. The restaurant was completely empty. We were the only customers. The waitress seemed friendly enough. She complained about being bored. We were understanding. We ordered two appetizers and a meal to share. The food was decent. The mosaic plate was good. The appetizer of fried wrapped meats and cheese was okay. It was nothing to run home about. Then things started to get weird. The waitress was eavesdropping on our conversation. She even told us that herself! My friend and I were talking about my recent medical appointments in low voices. It was personal. We just wanted a nice relaxing lunch and chat. I was trying to process some news I had been given. The waitress kept saying weird things to us and told us she got Botox and put her finger in her mouth to show us something. Then when she went to the bathroom she told us she was going to wash her hands. It was just odd. We went along with it to be nice. Also the three bathrooms all had an issue with them. One with no soap, one with no to, and the other wouldn't flush. Not cool. At least have one working bathroom! Then the bill comes and we put our cards in to split it. We walk out and decide we will try the restaurant again but ask for a different server. No biggie! Then I get home and check my banking and see I was double charged for the meal! So my friend and I go back and speak to the owner. He is one of the rudest men I've ever met. He told me he wouldn't make it right because I wasn't being nice enough. He wouldn't even give me a receipt of the voided transaction. I thought it possible I had been robbed. I was very stressed. I won't be going back. I don't want to give this man anymore money. I foresee this business being gone soon. The food is okay but the service was trash. The whole reason I like going out to eat is to relax and not have to stress. 0/10 recommend. read more

A hidden gem right downtown. I have never had a meal here that wasn't so good I said Wow! aloud after every bite. The food is incredible and authentic, service personable and professional. Get the mint tea and cigar sampler, and the couscous is always on point. I love Blue Fez!!! read more

After a walking tour around Salem we headed over for lunch. The ambience is nice and they were very flexible and allowed us to choose dishes from the dinner menu even though it was lunch. We got the grape leaves and falafel appetizers and they were excellnet. From the dinner menu we ordered tajine and reffari. Both dishes were excellent, light, well seasoned. Ok so the wait on this time of year is insane just because it's so crowded, I get it. But it was just way too long we waited about an hour and people were getting their food before we did and got their after us. The worst part was we ordered a simple salad and hummus for apps and it look that long for cucumbers and pita to come out. Overall,the food was good but was so disappointed with the wait we were starving we even went to an outside vendor to grab something to manage our hunger. I went here for lunch with grandson on his college break, just a couple of days after it opened. I had looked forward to Blue Fez' opening for several weeks, and it lived up to my expectations. Grandson had the falafel starter, which was wonderfully arranged and very tasty (yes he let me have a taste). He followed that with the grilled lamb on pita which he greatly enjoyed...um, I did not get a taste of this. I chose, and thoroughly enjoyed, the houmus in a pita wrap accompanied by lots of artfully seasoned and healthful veggies. The space is very pleasant, very nice to be in. I look forward to many many more excellent meals at Blue Fez, a great addition to Salem's restaurant scene. read more

Was excited to try this new restaurant after looking at the menu online. I noted the great ambiance when my friends and I walked in and were greeted immediately. The oil with olives to dip your bread in is worth the trip alone. We ordered the Grape Leaves and the Falafel for starters. Both were excellent! I ordered the Chicken Fassi and my husband ordered the Moroccan Meshoui. Delish! Not only was the food great, the waitstaff was very attentive without being annoying. They were knowledgeable of menu items and ingredients. This restaurant is a great addition to Salem. read more

Fabulous hostess/server! Knowledge, friendly, attentive. The atmosphere is inviting and comfortable, we did not feel rushed. The music was perfect, the coat hook on the booth was another nice touch not over looked. The lighting wasn't too dim to read the menu, and the hat/lampshades were cute! Now the food...amazing! The bread with the dipping oil was first, best I've ever tried! We had the couscous, lamb and chicken with the delicious salad topped with feta. The spices were not hot spicy but very flavorful. The meat was cooked to perfection, loved the lamb! The Moroccan mint tea was served into glasses, again, delicious! For dessert, I had the Moroccan dates.
