The service was pretty weird - the lady at the register didn't crack a smile once and seemed tired of answering any questions we had about the menu. However, the food was great. I ordered one of their daily specials that had samples of a lot of different things - shrimp tempura, fried chicken, pork, an omelette, and rice. The portion was also massive so it was good value. So I paid the order and when I opened the container to notice I had 4pcs of chicken and 2pcs of drumettes(wings). Best burger I've ever had! Coming from NY, I did not think any of the food I would be having in Hawaii would blow me away. But this burger was AMAZING. We came back a second time before leaving to have it again and it was just as good. Lots of locals here and a spot you have to go to while in Lanai. As a tourist on Lanai, dining options are extremely limited. We stayed at Sensei Lanai, where there is only 1 restaurant (Nobu) available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Luckily, Lanai Town is a short 15-20 minute stroll down the hill. From the moment we landed in Lanai, we heard about Blue Ginger from our driver. It's a local favorite for breakfast and lunch. When you get tired of the fancy resort life, Blue Ginger is the go-to place on Lanai. We went for breakfast and wanted to try as many things as we could. The Breakfast Bento Plate comes with pretty much all the breakfast meats + chicken. The Big Breakfast comes with 1 choice of meat plus pancakes. The one thing that was special here is the fried chicken. I wish I had just gotten a huge plate of only fried chicken. The breading was crispy and tasty, and the meat inside so moist and tender. Idk how they do it, but it's way better than Popeye's, Jollibee's, Zippy's, anywhere else! They're also known for their pastries, and we couldn't resist getting the ensemada, which was the size of my face. Buttery, soft, not too sweet. It was an amazing afternoon snack later in the day. Overall, our Lanai trip was just okay, and I probably wouldn't come back to visit. But in the event that I do find myself back on this island, I'll be sure to make a stop or two at Blue Ginger, just for the fried chicken! read more

Wifey and I stopped at this place twice during our stay in Lanai and just thought it was so cute. It smelled delicious in the morning and the outside seating was perfect. No wonder it was packed with all the locals! I ordered the Lanai omelette and the big breakfast and had no complaints on either. The bread and pancakes were delicious too. The order taker had such an attitude and we thought he was kidding but his sharpness took us by surprise. Fire him as he isn't going to help with those of us who visit occasionally from Maui- his insulting attitude is not appropriate for any public facing job especially in a restaurant . Also a huge negative is that they only take cash. That requires a run to Bank of Hawaii. Unfortunately they are like to only game in town for breakfast or lunch and yet in the future I'd go to the market and take my food home or to my car. Why all the locals talk about this place, I'm not so sure. I really wanted to like this cafe but unfortunately that's not how it played out. We ordered the chicken stir fry and shrimp tempura. Chicken stir fry was bland, and then on top of that the sauce was so thick and gelatinous like it had tons of corn starch in it. Not very appetizing looking. I don't know how they can call the shrimp tempura "tempura" because it looked and tasted like it was dipped in regular batter. There was nothing tempura about it, it didn't even come with a dipping sauce. Like I said, I really wanted to like this place due to it being a local's favorite, but I would go elsewhere. read more

I had the Binto, which came with every kid of meat you can think of and then some. The service was prompt and prices were reasonable considering you do not have may option in Lanai. We spent the day on Lana'i and rented car for the day from Judi at 808 Day Trip (Hey Judi - the silver Nissan rental was very nice!). After spending the morning at Hulopo'e beach we drove into the city for lunch and found Blue Ginger Cafe. I was planning to get a burger, but a man who I assume was the owner pointed out a pastry that had a hotdog and cheese inside. This seemed like a local thing so I got one. First bite was great - fresh baked bread with american cheese and a filipino hotdog. The hotdog was a nice and unexpected surprise! We were pleasantly surprised by this little gem right off the park in Lanai City. We took the ferry over from Maui this morning and it was nice to stop in and have quality and affordable food. One of the few restaurants on the Island of Lana'i and also one of the only ones that is open seven days a week. They only take cash, but they do have a large menu selection along with plenty of baked goods. 1 of only 5 eateries on the island if you are not staying at the four seasons hotels. We came here for breakfast at the recommendation of our shuttle driver. Two things stood out! First, their fried rice is the best I have ever had! It was soo good. Second, the Apple turnover was amazing. Warm, flakey, and just absolutely delicious. They are only open for Breakfast and lunch, and the bakery items sell out early. We were there at 8am and most things were gone by 8:30. Pretty easy to be the best show in town when you're just about the only show in town. However, surprisingly, this place was worth a stop - it hit the spot with local kine grindz. My husband and I got the Regular Breakfast and it did not disappoint... opt for the Fried Rice! Or upgrade to the Big Breakfast and add on with super fluffy French Toast. I would have preferred for the French Toast to be topped with Kerrygold Grass Fed butter rather than the typical fake butter but hey... you shouldn't be a snob when it comes to dirty local food. But I'll standby my snobbiness when it comes to coffee in Hawaii...so just a tip -- if you only love good high quality coffee, skip out on ordering coffee this time and order something else. The service was great and the ambiance was cute, prices not bad considering! This place was frequented equally by locals and tourists. This is the only restaurant in Lanai City that's open seven days a week. If you're from a big city, it's not much to look at, but it does kind of have a small town, old-timey charm to it. There's not much of a menu, but they do serve breakfast foods and lunch foods. If you're here for the cat sanctuary and looking for a place to grab a hot lunch, this is probably your best bet, because it opens before everything else and tends to close later. The service leaves a lot to be desired, especially since the town is so small that they know if you're not a local. They don't cook food with any kind of speed-- two tuna sandwiches took over 20 minutes-- and they don't tend to be very friendly to those who don't know how their system works. They also only take cash, which isn't too surprising. We at least got a heads up from previous reviews and knew to have cash on hand when we walked in. Food was good enough to warrant a return if we ever find ourselves back on Lanai. read more
