This place is a little different from the run of the mill mexican or texmex you might be used to. I've been here probably a dozen times and have never been disappointed. We love it. I 'made a reservation' by phone on Tuesday and showed up on a busy Friday evening at 7. The hostess proceeded to tell me they don't take reservations so I must be mistaken and rudely told me I would need to wait 20-30 minutes to be seated. My group of 7 waited for around 45 minutes and were finely seated. No one took our order for 30+ minutes and when we finally waved a waiter down he was incredibly rude. We ordered pitchers of margaritas. They came out AFTER our food and were 60% ice and tasted as though they had no alcohol. Our food was fine - nothing special. No one came to check on us once from the time that we had our food to when we left the restaurant. We waved down someone pouring water to bring us our check. Extremely disappointed by Blue Mesa. I've truly never had an experience like the one I had at this restaurant. It started off with our party of 7 being seated at a dirty table with empty glasses and crumbs everywhere. We waited for them to clean it off and then were greeted by a waiter who immediately let us know he had "been there all day and hadn't had a break." Awesome. So we ordered and sat there for 30-40 minutes with our waters, drinks, salsa and chips all empty. Finally we waved down someone who worked there who we asked if we could get a water, order drinks and get more salsa and chips. He proceeded to get extremely frustrated, rolling his eyes at the inconvenience we were causing him. Our server came over 5 minutes later putting chips on the table saying "F**k this," audible enough for everyone at the table to hear. OK.... now that's crossing a line. At this point our husbands had had enough and got up to find a manager. The manager came over and tried to repair the situation the best she could, but it didn't help that our food was cold that we waited 40+ minutes for and we had to stand up and go get our own silverware from the bar. We had such a terrible experience from the beginning to the end and I feel like it's important for people to know that they truly should not waste their time and money going to Blue Mesa. I'm not one to write reviews about one-off experiences, but this experience as a whole showed how terribly this establishment is being run. I'm torn. I really want to write TWO reviews for Blue Mesa because I love it and I hate it. I'll start with the food. Meh. I really hate eating here. Really hate it. The food is uninspired and I wouldn't consider it "Tex-Mex" at all. I've tried several dishes, but they were so forgettable I can't for the life of me remember what they were. The one thing I'll eat, though, is the mini adobe pie. You have to order this specially - I found out the hard way. Otherwise, they bring you out this terrible chicken thing very unlike the mini black bean pie that I enjoy. Now the happy hour is another story. . . I would say this is one of the best happy hour venues out there. I'm a poor college student, and it's my go-to joint. The best part is free quesadillas and nachos with the order of an alcoholic beverage- my personal favorite: a frozen blue margarita that rings up at $4.00. For a poor graduate student, spending $4.00 and getting a margarita and a plate of quesadillas and nachos is the best dinner out there (besides left over pizza and a beer... but that's another review). I know I said I wasn't a fan of their food, but you can't really mess up made-to-order quesadillas. The atmosphere is good, but sometimes it's hard to find a seat in the bar area at peak happy-hour madness. I'm a little late with my review, but we came here for Mother's Day Brunch. We've come here in the past for Mother's Day Brunch and never had any problems. Food was great, service was excellent. But this year was totally different. We made a reservation for 10:30am. We arrived at about 10:20 and let them know we were there. I was told there'd still be a 45 minute wait. Kinda sucked, but whatever...that's fine. After an hour I decide to check and see if they knew how much longer it might be. The hostess gave me a look as if i was an idiot and said, "all of these people are ahead of you (pointing to the page of names that were written on her piece of paper". At this point we knew it would be well over ANOTHER hour before we were sat, so we left. We will definitely NOT be back for Mother's Day Brunch. read more

This was the day where we celebrated Melva's birthday, Oct 14. Wes&Gigi and kids, Cari&Vasa and kids, were there. Lolo&Lala were there, too. This was the 1st time we had tried this new place; it had moved from their University Blvd place, where, we had eaten, 3 times before. In this new place, the cost of Sunday brunch was $22. We tried the vegetarian option of enchiladas and sweet potatoes; Norma got vegetarian option Baja tacos. They tasted great! The waitress was very nice, and joked around with Melva. We ate the chips, tortilla and sweet potatoes, and salsa. I give it 5 stars! This was the day after Lala's birthday, Fri, Jan 8. When we got there, Gramma parked the car, saw Lolo&Lala, Aaron&Melea, sitting in the bar area, Aaron said to sit right at the tall table, at the end, I looked over the menu (it looked different), I ordered the Blue Mesa enchiladas with cheese, Gramma ordered the chicken enchiladas, we both weren't that hungry, when the food came, I finished it up, Gramma ate half, wished Lala's happy birthday, thanked Lolo for paying for supper. I give it 4 stars, out of 5 stars, because our table was in the bar. read more

The worst food I have ever been served. My chicken Quesadilla was smothered in some kind of nasty green sauce and full of onions and green peppers. I couldn't eat one bite. Things I love about Blue Mesa: the location, the decor, the free parking, the friendliness of the wait staff, the menu options, and the sheer amount of food you're getting for your money. I recently went with my family and even though our server was friendly, I'm not sure if she was new or not. We had to repeat our order several times over, and even then things came out at random intervals instead of all together. When my dish arrived, 2 of the 3 tacos I had ordered (on the street taco platter) didn't even have meat... they brought them out half finished. I immediately notified the waiter and she apologized and took it back. After several minutes, I got one of the sides on a separate plate, but still no platter. All the rest of my group at this point had their food. It took about 7-8 more minutes for my completed platter to be brought back. My mom's dish (ordered the same thing, minus different sides) was also brought out very piece-meal where the sides weren't on the platter plate as they should've been. Flavor wise, the food was ok. The steak tacos were insanely greasy, to the point where there was a puddle on my plate from all the grease. The little corn cakes tasted different than they did the last time we visited, and not in a good way, so I couldn't finish that. Overall score for food: 6/10. Service: 5/10. It took SO long to get in and out/receive water/food, especially for a Tuesday evening. read more

This was the first time we've been to Blue Mesa in years. I didn't even know they served brunch! A quick search on Sunday morning for brunch, and voila... there it was a brunch buffet. From made-to-order omelets to blue corn cheese enchiladas! Delish. The sweet corn cake with black beans on top was crazy good. The migas and cheese enchiladas made me go back for more. The most disappointing were the self serve chips that were a little stale. The price is on up there at $22 but considering mimosas are included along with the vast assortment of food I can understand. We will definitely go back. read more

Later I will hopefully update this review..but this is probably the worst customer service i've experienced in a while. I walk in, really excited to experience this place and she lets me know that happy hour is open seating. So we walk around the restaurant for a while and couldn't find anything. So I try to talk to her again and she completely ignores me, there were four employees around the stand and one even looked at me and continued to keep chatting with her co workers. So after i waved in there faces, they finally acknowledged me. I asked them if i could sit on the other side of the restaurant with plenty of open seating and she told me no. So at this point I question if they just didn't want my money. After she tells me no she goes back to talking to her co workers and ignoring everyone that walked in. Yes, i get that happy hour is open seating but that doesn't mean you don't have to do your job. It definitely doesn't mean that you shouldn't be giving customer service. So I decided to leave instead of begging someone to take my money. I didn't even get to experience the food AT ALL. Thank God, velvet taco is a short walk from blue mesa. I know i don't have yelp elite plastered on my forehead, but she needs to remember that you never know how your bad customer service can start to effect the company. A restaurant can be great, but if it has awful service who wants to go!? I would definitely like to try again later in life.. but i just had to share what i had experienced at this establishment. read more

Came here a lot for their killer happy hour, I actually have not eaten just their regular food. During happy hour, if you buy a drink you get FREE chicken or veggie quesadillas. Most of the time that I've been, these quesadillas have been absolutely delicious. The last time they kind of skimped on the cheese a little. But still good nonetheless. The house margaritas are blue which is a little weird but they're pretty good. I have had better ones in the area, however. The specials actually used to be a little better 2 years ago but they've gotten a little stricter. The atmosphere is cool and the patio is nice when the weather is sweltering. Food was fantastic and the private room was beautiful...but what we were most impressed with was working with Terra (manager) and Chelsea (our server). The new building is gorgeous. We walked in at 12:20pm with a group of 12 and were seated immediately...felt like we won the group dining lottery. The Sunday Brunch Buffet is amazing, my favorites included: Sweet potato chips and guacamole (+ multiple types of salsa) and the Sweet corn cakes. The choices are numerous and everything was tasty. Mimosas were top notch. Our server Amanda was incredible. Friendly, fast, and helpful. She divided up the ticket into 3 families with ease. The manger checked on us, and when asked about safe dessert options for my son (nut allergy) she told him to chill at table, and brought him a plate full of everything safe. INSANE. Even though we already had a different caterer, Blue Mesa was super responsive, very helpful, and easy to work with and book. We had two bartenders come out to our event, and they were both very fun, very professional, and took care of our guests so well! This place is my new favorite spot. I have to say that I was so impressed. The decor was cool and contemporary. The food was fresh and plated so beautifully. My favorite thing about my visit, was our server Shane!!!! Omg he is amazing. He treated us like he knew us for years. He was very knowledgeable of the menu from drinks to the food. Mexican food for Sunday brunch? You would have to really mess up for me to Not love this place. $20 gets you bottomless mimosas (or straight champagne if you are aggressive like that) and every sort of meaty, cheesy, Mexican food you could possibly want in the AM. If you're one of those breakfast food-first types, they have waffles, pastries, omelets, all your standard offerings. If you are over breakfast and want the good stuff, they have their awesome sweet potato chips ( with guac of course), enchiladas, tacos, grilled meats.... makes me hungry thinking about it. I have had Blue Mesa Grill when my office catered it on two (2) occasions and then coming here to experience their brunch special. Blue Mesa is known for their Adobe Pies, which I frankly don't understand the appeal. I like savory and sweet combinations but these Adobe Pies are so dry if not anything else. I will eat part of one during brunch to see if there is any variation, but I haven't had one that is good enough to eat more than one (1) bite of. I'm sure everyone will recommend them, since they are known for them but do not let the Adobe Pies determine your critic of this restaurant. They offer many other selections. Brunch - All you can eat & drink ~$20 What more could you ask for?! You get to sample the majority of their menu for one price. Included drinks - Water, orange juice, coffee, unsweetened tea, mimosas, champagne, and one other alcoholic drink that escapes me for the moment. They offer agua frescas at the dessert table. + There is so many food offerings that I could not possible comment on them all 1. Omelet bar is amazing. You can customize an omelet, get an egg cooked the way you like it, or have a freshly made eggs benedict. 2. Dessert bar - Many options and there's so much whipped cream 2a. I think they consider the waffle station as apart of the dessert bar. 3. There was a watermelon agua fresca offered at the dessert bar table during one visit but I know they do change it up occasionally. 4. Famous adobe pies are there which I like, but it's probably more of the corn mash that I fancy 5. First time in and The only reason for the two stars is because of Hope. She was genuinely sweet despite being in the weeds and doing everything she could to be attentive. I'm not sure what the initial greeting and seating should be but Whatever it is, Terra was definitely not the experience we were expecting. We wanted to sit in bar area for national margarita day due to the holiday but it was pretty packed, understood. Terra asked us if we wanted dinner section , and we responded with question due to the seating being filled in the bar and not knowing where else to go . She then proceeded to tell us well you can't have quesadillas if you sit there and we were like quesadillas? We didn't know anything about it so I guess ?!? Come to find out there was a special for the bar area and happy hour to have free quesadillas with a drink purchase. We were never told this just guided to the dining . It would have been nice to be told about the specials you guys offered so we could have taken advantage of them instead of just told what we couldn't have and directed to a section. We would have waited . We all agreed she was pretty sarcastic and could have been a little more informative to new guest. Fortunately again, Hope gave you guys hope for another visit. read more

We went here for the Partida Tequila Mixology Party, bc I am a chile-head and I get emails about cool stuff like that. We needed a date night anyway....something to spice it up! We are both geeks about mixology. We like a good drink...something that isn't watered down or taste like the cheap version of what it's supposed to be so the idea of fresh squeezed limes, fresh fruit and premium tequila tickled our fancy. The food was A-OK as well. I ventured out on a limb and tried the Green Chile Tacos which were super flavorful and we had the pick of pork, picadillo, and chicken tacos...with a fresh gucamole bar, and a salad bar. It really was a nice evening...it was just a little confusing because they called it a "party" but it wasn't The front door girls seemed really confused about the gathering as well, and they were still conducting regular buisness so slapping a tequila bar in the middle of the place wasn't the best idea. I found myself awkardly serving myself while the family beside me got waiter service....that was just weird. So maybe rope off a section for special events next time umkay? But top margs! Top food!
