I came here last night for dinner and the food was absolutely amazing. We had the burrata to start as an appetizer and it was perfect. The sweet corn and balsamic really complimented the cheese. For dinner I had the special which was crab cakes and my girlfriend had the halibut. Both were equally delicious. For dessert we both split the homemade ice cream bombe. WOW. This was totally worth the few extra pounds that I probably put on eating it. It was more than enough for the both of us to share. I would say it's big enough for 4 people. The service was also perfect. The food came out with enough time for us to digest between app/entree/dessert. After we both wiped our plates clean we both agreed this is our new favorite restaurant and decided to go back for brunch today which was equally as amazing as dinner the night before. I withheld a star because of tonight's dinner. We come here once a year for a conference, and stay an extra night to have a nice leisurely dinner on the porch. Every time we have had dinner here, it has been exceptional. Just not tonight. It wasn't that what we had was bad. It wasn't. It just wasn't up to the standard we have had over the years. We shared the fried green tomatoes. Awesome as usual. My husband ordered the duck. I have had the duck in the past, and it was amazing. What we didn't expect tonight was that it was prepared as a ragout. Chunks of duck, some spaetzel, tons of sauce. Overwhelmed the taste of the duck, and frankly, hid it. I had the lamb ragout, and it was good, but not the kitchen's best effort. Our waitress: another story. We felt like we lost her interest when we declined to order wine. Neither of us drink alcohol. We had more attention from the other waiter working the porch than we had from her. We did overhear her regaling the relative merits of different wines to a single gentleman, and she frankly, left us hanging. Our entrees arrived a good fifteen minutes after we finished our appetizer. Our appetizer dishes were cleared by the other waiter working the porch. He even refilled our glasses. My impression was that our waitress lost interest in us when we didn't order drinks or wine. Sorry, but we have personal and health reasons why we don't drink. No one has ever left us hanging like we were tonight. I get it. Gosh, I hope I'm wrong. I used to be a darned good bartender in DC. I know how a bottle of wine and a few drinks can pad a check. Been there, done that. We had a very nice dinner right down the street from Blue Moon the other night with marvelous service, and frankly, better food than what we had tonight. It was also less expensive. We know that Blue Moon has met and exceeded our expectations in the past. Tonight was just not one of those nights. read more

I travel to this beach a lot and had never been to this place before. I was checking for drag shows in delaware and the name popped up! Got there a little bit earlier than 9:30 so i was like why dont try their food; and guess what! It was the best steak i have ever had in delaware. I tried two different types of steaks and a soup. All were fabulous . Also, Anna was very friendly and polite. The drag show.... i go to drag shows all around the country and surprisingly this one was one of the most fun ones i had ever seen. The place is small but the atmosphere was awesome. It was a mix of everything ! Drag queens , local singers , local karaoke winners , they also did a tribute to some disney cartoons. Good job guys. This was a Rehoboth stalwart for decades but four recent experiences were is disappointing, with the final one the last straw. Service slow and unresponsive, even with many empty tables. Food mediocre after having been so good for so long. Regular menu expensive; pre-season tasting menu mediocre and inflexible. Old reliable menu items gone. We came here for a bachelorette party weekend and this place was awesome! The food was amazing, I got the crab cake sandwich and it was phenomenal and they have really cool drinks as well. There were 2 of us for brunch. Normally you would think of steak and eggs as a hearty kind of brunch (yes, I was hungry). However, after a 40 minute wait, I got my steak and eggs. It was pretty skimpy as far as portions go and I left the restaurant hungry. In fact, I am home right now eating a bowl of cereal. Pretty disappointing, honestly. On the other hand, the food was not bad. I just could have eaten double the amount they gave me. (It also did not help that I saw a man at the next table get the same thing. He was served a MUCH larger portion than I was. That just should NOT happen. They should be standardized portions.) You will never see me there again. read more

Best restaurant I have been to in the state of Delaware. Food will knock your socks off. Good service and environment. I recommend the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. We enjoyed the carpaccio, fried green tomatoes, burrata salad, seared duck breast, pan roasted halibut, and peach cobbler Service was iffy at first and then the server warmed up to us. We walked in off the street, though they said there was no dress code we did feel slightly underdressed. Maybe that had something to do with the nonchalant attitude at first. But after ordering champagne, a bottle of wine, and 4 courses each the carefree attitude changed. Wine selection is pretty good. No dress code apparently but I'd say upscale casual is a good choice. WOMEN are NOT WELCOMED there! My girlfriends and I made a reservation to see the show and we were very excited about it! We arrived earlier so we were the only people there. Right the way, we noticed that we were not welcomed there.. When we were seated at the table, all the employees got together in the corner near the bar area and were laughing while staring at us. Then, we noticed that the WATER was leaking from the AC above the table and the table was wet from it. When we asked if we could move to another table , the young Russian male waiter told that can't move to another table because every table was reserved by some app.. We told him that we did not see the option to select a specific table on the website when we were making a reservation and we asked him for the name of the app he said he doesn't remember the name and went to get a manager.. Obviously, there was no app with such an app to select a table so he LIED to our face!!! The manager came to us and said that he still can NOT move us to another table... Again, ALL the tables were EMPTY! There was NO ONE there!! So he started moving the table a little bit to the side from the water BUT there was no enough room to move that table so the water started to fall on one of our chairs ... so he said "at this point, we can't do anything about it.." so we just left that horrible place... That was the WORST place we have ever been. Total discrimination !!! You are going to be LIED to your face and treated less than a human being.. NOT RECOMMEND this horrible place! I went here once before and liked it--but this time, it was terrible. We had a reservation through Open Table. We were sat at the squeaky exit door from the kitchen, and right near a door to the outside where there was very loud music. There was also a faint odor of urine. After a few minutes we asked to be reseated and the waitress said there were no other spots. The restaurant, which is in a converted house, was busy but not packed. So we left, and went to a place on the same block that is also very highly rated on Yelp. They were able to squeeze us in without a reservation--and it was amazing! read more

Schizophrenic. That's the experience of visiting one of the most popular places that sells itself as an upscale dining experience in Rehoboth Beach. If you haven't figured out by now, it's a popular gay (male) hangout place that includes an adjacent very busy/popular bar that is attached to the restaurant. This review is mostly about the restaurant. Strange start. We had reservations and walked to the front door expecting to go get seated, the hostess then sent us to the club. Uh? what? Why are we walking through this way I thought? The place by the way is always PACKED, so we turned around taking of course what was a 10 minute walk to go 20 feet there and back to the restaurant and mention to the hostess that we are here for uh dinner... you know? Then she sort of went oh ok and led us to our table. weird. The inside is interesting. It's filled with booths and a few tables, with very narrow walkways making it really claustrophobic. It has the appearance of a well kept home, cozy, tasteful, simple and nice artwork, with some muted green plush booths, and warm yellow beach colored walls. It is however, a little crammed, and a bit noisy. Our waiter who was congenial was also absent. We hardly saw the guy, for what was a leisurely? dining experience. Cocktails first. As a big cocktail purist and drinker, the menu had some interesting choices, but there is a lot of typical standard fare cocktails such as Choco-tinis, Apple-tinis etc. The Gimlet I ordered was pretty strong and was filled with good aromatics and flavors from the basil and cucumbers. Quite good, but it also pointed to something else. The cocktails were far too boozy. The Mai Tai is pure rum, I took one sip of it and nearly gagged. The tini's are also way too big. We actually jokingly mentioned to our waiter, that the Mai Tai tasted like just pure rum, and he laughed and said yeah that's the way we make it. So ironically he actually agreed with us. Basically, the cocktails are just amped up nightclub/bar drinks. However, food items came and improved the experience. The amuse bouche we had was excellent, it's savory smokey quality and cheese really gets the palate salivating. Next were the roasted Virginia oysters. Another hit. Fantastic combination of flavor with the fennel, bacon, pernod and romano. I hard a hard time deciding what to have, but a 16oz ribeye was calling me. There is a section for entrees, and a section for steak/chops and I know this isn't a steak house, but the place was selling itself well and I figured this is a no brainer. Another person at our table also ordered a sirloin, and we asked for medium-rare. I asked for a glass of wine, making mental notes from the wine list I saw earlier. My wife asked for the wine list a little later, and our waiter then vanished, until our entrees arrived. Then my wife got her wine list from some other person. Servers, get the customers wine to the table preferably before their food shows up. This is real basic stuff, and they screwed this up for a so called "fine dining" outing. Our steaks come... Overcooked. Cooked Medium, with borderline medium well, we brought this to the server who apologized and easily offered us a re-do. My colleague had his returned, and mine was not too bad so I stuck with it. If you are charging $39 for a steak, you better get it right. Only one chance for a good first impression. Then the hostess strangely returned trying to take my steak away. I already had asked her in the past where the bathrooms were, and she told me "It's IN the bar". So I start walking inside the bar and find myself in karaoke. I politely asked a bouncer where the washrooms were and he nicely directed me outside. Real nice guy too. The washrooms are in this odd corner. Not to mention the bar creates a weird experience. Occasional whoots and shouts come while you are dining, never mind the odd Corona Light bottle stuck on the sink in the bathroom. Classy. I would describe the hostess politely as "not all there". The other entree's that I sampled pasta bolgnese, duck, halibut, are all solid for what they are, but I wouldn't rave about them. We ordered the Blue Moon dessert, a triple layer ice cream like cake, with some nice cookie base and center? with a huge meringue. I am not a big dessert fan but this is a solid if not outlandish dessert that will please just about anybody. They comped our dessert, apologized a bit, and we concluded. We went next door for the karaoke show, which I have to say, was awesome. I don't have a reason to find myself in gay bars, but karaoke in this gay bar was real entertaining. Way better than any regular karaoke bar I've been in. This place needs some work for the prices they are charging, and it was some real weird service. Still I wouldn't slam it, it just has kinks to work out, but I can't feel compelled to return. Off night? Really can't tell but this experience could have been better. read more

It pains me to write that although the food was good and the show was great, my overall experience at Blue Moon this weekend was very negative due to the inappropriate and absurd behavior of two staff members. I'll note that our server at the restaurant (Natalie) and Greg/Ben (bartenders) were fantastic--kind and friendly and helpful. However, two female Blue Moon staffers (one who worked near the back bar and the other who checked IDs at the door) brought two of my friends to tears. One of my friends dared to ask politely where she could find the bathroom, only to be accused of trying to "cut the line." This staffer then cursed at my friend and threatened to throw her out of the club. The second friend--who was completely sober, but feeling overwhelmed and needed some air--exited the club only to be accused by the ID-checker of being "too drunk." Even after she'd learned that this woman was completely sober, the staff member then asked in a very rude tone, "Well then what's wrong with her?" I provide this amount of detail in order to show that although the entertainment, food, and bartenders at Blue Moon are wonderful--even they cannot make up for the horrible customer service and overall extremely unprofessional behavior of these two women who work in an industry where they interact with all types of people everyday. I do not want to see anyone else brought to tears by these two women who work at Blue Moon, and I hope management will do what is necessary to ensure that this type of unacceptable behavior never happens again. read more

The hostess tried to seat us in the back area next to the kitchen and bathroom in a space too small for the 2 of us. We asked to be moved. Moving to a less crowded area where we could actually sit turned out to be a mistake. Ken, the server kept us waiting 20 minutes. We had an Open Table reservation. We should have left, but I asked him if he was too busy upon his return. "Certainly not" was his friendly answer. It was NOT busy. Should have left no tip, but I was more generous; but not a great tip. He came out of the back door of restaurant into the bar area and yelled, "thanks for the tip" in a loud manner. This was our 2nd time this year. We had a "less than good" experience in July, but decided to try again. In July with our Open Table reservation, we waited 30 minutes past our time. There will not be a 3rd time. I realize this is a beach town, but it's now a year-round town; so up your service, Blue Moon. read more

Nothing makes me happier than a great meal. The Blue Moon delivered on all counts with food, drinks, ambiance and service. We were surprised with an amuse bouche of two dates stuffed with gorgonzola cheese then wrapped in bacon sitting on a shortbread-like biscuit and finished off with a balsamic drizzle. It was the perfect mouthful and beginning to a meal. The bread service was a happy treat. A brioche roll and not just any brioche roll - perfect yeasty, golden buttery dusted with fleur de sel. We started with a plate of Chincoteague oysters roasted with bacon, fennel and cheese. Each ingredient was perfectly balanced with the perfect amount of smoke coming from the bacon and a tinge of fennel. This makes the oyster all the more an aphrodisiac. We continued with our entrees. We enjoyed a perfect firm yet flaky Halibut on a bed of fiddlheads, cauliflower and a puree of greens. The duck breast was cooked perfectly on a bed of gnocchi, marcona almonds, carmelized cippolini and an amazing puree and a cherry coulis. The food was not only delicious but beautiful. I loved the color, textures and flavors...all were very surprising and executed beautifully. It was the best meal I have had in a very long time. Even after all that food and wine, we finished with dessert. I enjoyed a coconut and blood orange cloud cake. It was a light, roll of cream topped with ginger strings and blood orange segments and served with a ginger and coconut crisp with a blood orange sorbet. My husband ordered the moon pie. What a surprise! It was more like a baked Alaska with a quarter of a gallon of ice cream. This could have been shared between 4 people. Our server laughed as she wanted to see the look on my husband's face. "Stella!!" Our server, Stella, was efficient and knowledgeable. It's a perfect place for something more upscale than the standard beach fare, but it retains the casual feel. It has the perfect ambiance for a date night or a great night out with friends. read more

It was okay, but I could have stayed in my hometown for this experience. It was okay. The drinks, by far, were the nest I ever had. The bartenders know what they are doing here. But, this is totally trendy. I could have stayed in Philadelphia for a drag show like this. Nothing out of the ordinary that screamed, "Rehoboth!" I would have liked to have had more drink options, too. Though the drinks were great, I paid $5.00 for a Yingling. If you like run-of-the-mill drag shows and high priced drinks (just like your city probably already has) , then go here. Otherwise, I'd find something else to do while on vacation. Also, I didn't even know there was a restaurant. It looks like a bar. The layout is confusing and if I knew food was available, I probably would have given a 4-rating. read more

It had been years since I had been to Blue Moon and I wanted to take my parents out for a nice dinner as a meager thank you for the blood, sweat, and tears that was our wedding. We had a reservation via Open Table back in early March, which is still the slow season at the beach. My parents used to live on the Avenue so Rehoboth is their old stomping grounds. I too worked in Rehoboth for many summers and I always love returning. We started off with cocktails at the bar as we waited for my parents then we were promptly seated in a spacious booth in the front porch area of the restaurant. While the people watching was decidedly uneventful compared to a busy Summer's night, we had most of the room to ourselves. Natalie G was our server and was knowledgeable about the menu, poised, and skillfully intuitive. My mother wanted a salad as a meal and everything came out timed perfectly, tasting divine, and we felt at ease and not rushed in the least. We ordered some appetizers including a smooth, creamy butternut squash soup, a Bibb salad with pickled onions, and for our mains got the salmon, veal chop, and chimichurri steak. Everything was artfully presented, prepared, with overwhelmingly coordinated flavor combinations. With drinks and coffee our bill before tip came to $ 182 for four people. I will definitely be back for dinner sometime this summer. Blue Moon is such an institution, not to mention a fun late night destination, and I am so glad that it hasn't changed over the years. read more

This is the review of the restaurant, not the bar/nightlife portion of Blue Moon. The restaurant itself is very small but comfortable and adorable - perfect for an intimate meal. The bar portion on the other side was loud and crowded, but the walls are soundproof enough that we could only hear the music when the door opened and closed. We had a 7:30 reservation and I recommend making one if visiting Blue Moon in season, as we were there on a very quiet July Sunday when the boardwalk was rather dead, and still every single table was filled within 30 minutes of being seated. The food was wonderful. Yes, on the expensive side, but this is a touristy part of town and everything nearby is priced accordingly. We started with a wonderful selection of cheese, which was generously portioned. Our entrees were also fresh and delicious - from the chicken special to the pork chop to my sister's halibut entree. My scallops were pretty good too, though they probably could have been cooked a little less, and I wasn't crazy about the corn side that came with the scallops. We didn't have room for dessert, but when we come back, I definitely want to try the Moon Pie. It looks amazing! Blue Moon's staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming to us. When we told our server that my parents were celebrating their 34th wedding anniversary that day, the hostess immediately swung by and sprinkled our table with colorful hearts and sparkles - such a sweet touch. Our server consistently went out of his way to make sure we were happy - I don't think one can ask for more. Highly recommend! Tip: it's not formal or anything, but I'd dress nicely if dining here, or you'll feel out of place. read more

I called weeks in advance about the Thanksgiving menu and gluten free options for my wife. They said they will have a bunch of GF options for her and most items can be made GF if needed. The seating was tight and we sat right near a closed window. I had to put my jacket back on because there was a bit drafty. We asked what GF options we had and pretty much told us 1 items from the 3 of the Thanksgiving dinner can be a option for her. So she went with the Turkey dinner which was all dark meat and was a bit dry. I ordered the whole chicken dinner and it looked great. I pulled the leg from the chicken and I saw actual blood in this section. Not a reddish meat color but blood and I know you should never eat chicken like this. In the past we had a bad experience at a different place where someone got sick. I asked very nicely if the waiter could bring me a new chicken because this was not cooked all the way. He was very nice and brought it back to the cook. The waiter returned and said the cook said this is how it should be cooked and is fine. I told him are you kidding me. I am not eating this and getting sick. So he brought it back to the cook again and they put it in the oven again and brought the same chicken back to me cooked a little more. Did it seriously take 2 requests to get my meal done right? I am not crazy that chicken should not be bloody anywhere right? Anyways. The sides were really tasty and I enjoyed the flavor in the Brussel Sprouts. Lastly, we ordered the Creme Brûlée and they made it as a sweet and salty type. The salt was overwhelming and so much so we couldn't finish it. BTW we always order Creme Brûlée everywhere we go and it is always finished. But the service was great and they were very attentive of our needs. I think the waiter even felt bad to have to bring the chicken back to me the first time. Service was excellent, they made every accommodation they could for me- a vegetarian (sometimes vegan) and gave great drink recommendations. The food was also excellent, I was "ooohing" and "ahhhhing" the whole meal. The "bomb" was delish and impossible to finish so make sure if you get it, you have a good crowd to share it or that you're able to take that baby home. We were still eating during this time but there was a drag family feud night going on in the other room which sounded like a lot of fun. I love this place and would definitely come back either for the exceptional romantic dinner experience or the raunchy drag show experience! What more could you ask for? read more

Fantastic meal from start to finish -- great drinks, extra dirty martini for her when I knocked the table and spilled it (no really, the waiter brought a whole extra snifter, which was great of him), good wine after, lovely steak, beautiful halibut plus ramps and cauliflower, then a blood orange cheesecake with sorbet, omg. Oh, and a roasted oyster appetizer that was so, so good. We had a very sweet corner table overlooking the street, and the server, although on his own in the place on a slow night, could not have been sweeter or more accommodating. ALSO! A guy at the table next to us asked me if I'd take a picture of him and his girlfriend, and while I was doing it, he took out a ring and proposed to her! I'm a photographer, so I was so glad I had my big camera. It was such a fun and special thing for us to be a part of, equal parts fine dining and Eastern Shore relaxation and community. Pros: Consistently good food, served in creative fun ways. Great little cottage, with a fun bar/club next door. If you're into drag shows, go for a tasty dinner and then to a show during summer and off season. The bar staff I've met at the club are awesome and that's been consistent. The performers are also very good and entertaining and fun. Sidenote: I've always visited Blue Moon for birthdays and special occasions during the regular summer season and they're awesome. Most of the off season wait staff is decent but seems like they're less enthusiastic than the summer fun wait folks we've met. Not sure why, other than everyone is sad summer's ending but let's face it, at their prices, I want happy times always. Call me spoiled but it's what I expect. Cons: Not many other than my side note above, and the usual parking issues since this is a beach. But parkmobile makes it easier and there are many options. I had dinner last night at the Blue Moon with my husband. The food was outstanding. I had the Ahi Tuna for starters and Sea Scallops for a main course. Both were out of this world. Also, we dine out often. Our server last night, Stella, was one of the most pleasant, efficient and charming servers that I have had in a long time. So, if you want a great dining experience go to the Blue Moon. If you want an exceptional evening then request that Stella be your server. Great food! Cozy place! Tables are a little crowded together but the super yummy food makes it all worth it!! My husband had the rack of lamb - medium rare. It was by far the best lamb I've ever had. It was cooked perfectly, not overly spiced and was simply delicious. We started out with 2 cheeses - beer-infused cheddar and a gouda. Both were fantastic and were served with home made crackers and other yummy treats. I had the short ribs. The portion was huge but tasty! All in all, it was a great dinner. Walked in on a Thursday evening without a reservation and seated right away at table 35. If you want a private table with a good view of the dining room, this is the one to ask for. It is up 2 stairs so is elevated from the rest of the dining room, but is back in a bit of a nook. Great place for private conversation. We loved this spot. We had the crab fondue and the tuna carpaccio appetizers and both were excellent. We did not have entrees as the appetizers were enough for us and allowed us to get desert. We had the Blue Moon Bombe which is big enough for 4 to share. It was decadent and the perfect end to a perfect experience. We will definitely be back. read more

The restaurant is great, but the bar is even better. Been a fan of the Moon for 20+ years, and I have to say they have stepped it up recently. Fun atmosphere, great drinks and personable bartenders. I have to say that this past week, special shout out to Jesse. He was always attentive and welcomed us (and most patrons) with a warm smile and friendly greeting. Stop in and tell him I sent you. Pretty much the best brunch ever. Great atmosphere on the closed in porch. The food was absolutely amazing, beautiful huge shrimp and melt in you mouth beignets! Very excited to try dinner here next time I am in town. read more
