I'm never disappointed when I go here and, more importantly, I am always surprised. They catered our wedding in 2011 and we always make a point of trying to eat here whenever we are in town. The food is consistently excellent and our recent trip was no different: - a salty/smoky/sweet amuse bouche incorporating dates, Gorgonzola and bacon - well balanced cocktails - a challenging and flavorsome cheese plate - the classic fried green tomatoes that balance the crunch with an unctuous herbed goat cheese and tart balsamic - the butter poached Maine lobster was decadent and matched by the risotto The star of the show was the "pastrami" duck breast. Cooked medium rare and with crispy, rendered fat, it simply wowed us both. The accompanying gnocchi and sautéed spinach beefed up each bite while the play between the strawberries, cipollini onions and foie mustard was mind-blowing. The food has always been stellar which is why we sometimes went for dinner but I'm not a fan of the service or staff vibe which was always been rude and often overtly insulting each and every time we went (over many many years). Before the pandemic, we would agree to meet friends here for happy hour on a Friday nite which was loud but often fun and great for people watching but even then we were often met with sneering bar staff. We still went to be social and probably will again in the future when it's safe as it is important to support local restaurants and younger people seem to enjoy the high energy of the place so OK, maybe I'm just a middle-aged boomer. We had a very good dinner here. Great salads, seafood, and meat (the stroganoff is terrific). It's a classy spot but warm and friendly, as well. The only downside is the dining room is a little bit cramped, with small tables just a little too close together and chairs bumping into neighboring tables. We go to Rehoboth for a week, at least twice a year --in early June and Late August, and have for the past 7 years. Every visit, we have dinner at the Blue Moon at least once for dinner. (Three times last visit, which ended a week ago.) The restaurant is great. It's comfy, the wait staff is top-notch, and the food is wonderful. My husband would kill several innocent people to get his hands on their Crab Fondue appetizer. The menu has several solid, repeat worthy entrees. Their cocktails are great, they're specially cocktail menu is really nice, and they're bartenders are the best. Having said that, the past 5 visits, their specials have been the same thing, as has their amuse-bouche. If you're in Rehoboth and have never been to Blue Moon do it. But you're a frequent return customer like me, you may start to get bored with the menu. Here's hoping for the 2020 season they do a bit of a menu renovation, or at least have more specials and have them be more varied. You can also eat in the Blue Moons bar between 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. which they call happy hour. Most nights (in the Summer, 9nly Sundays and Mondays off season) during that time 1980's pop star Pamela Stanley does a really fun show where she plays the piano and plays her mixture of oldies, current hits, Broadway showtimes, and jazz standards. She really is an underrated performer, and is worth checking out. They also have a small bar menu there including hamburgers that are really good. Later in the day there's other kinds of entertainment. I have seen other Yelp reviewers complain about a overzealous, rough bouncer, but I have never ever had that experience and almost a decade of going there. I have had a drunk bride-to-be, with her bridal party push me out of the way as if I didn't exist while trying to get to the drag queens on stage though. read more

I was in Rehoboth for only three days, and I'm not shy to say that this restaurant was the absolute highlight of the visit. I went with two of my best friends because we were celebrating a birthday. The outside of the place is cute and inviting, with waiters ready to beckon you inside. We were seated in a booth/chair table and asked for our wine order. Our waiter was courteous and kind, and was patient as we scoured the menu. The lighting was perfect, and general atmosphere was elegant with a farm-home tough that added a great feeling of comfort. The menu was wonderful- not so many options that I was overwhelmed, but enough to give me plenty of choice. The appetizers looked amazing and the entrees equally as delicious. Before we could even order, we were brought fresh, hot, sweet rolls and butter AND compliments of the chef: a cold salmon cake on a fresh potato crisp. PERFECT. I don't really like fish but this salmon was wonderful. Not a fishy taste, and not too salty. We had our bread and fish crackers, and then I ordered the Jerusalem artichoke soup with candied pine nuts, sweet onion foam, and coffee gastrique. I was skeptical but proved wrong. The soup was thick, sweet, and had several wonderful textures going on. Best soup I've had in a long time, and SO different. My entree was the miso salmon with wok vegetables and a jasmine rice cake. The salmon was flavorful, fatty, and so it fell apart as I ate it. The rice cake was seasoned beautifully and fried lightly in Panko. The vegetables were light; I'm guessing they were not fried in oil which made the whole meal lighter and more appetizing. The whole dish was sitting in a sweet miso broth that tied all the components together. Dessert was a must, and we had to treat Ourselves to the blue moon special: the giant ice cream cake with macadamia/caramel crumble, a cookie crust, and a s'mores coating. I have to say, I expected it to just be an overload of sugar, but it was surprisingly balanced with all the textures. A definite indulgence but well worth it. In an ice cream aficionado so this 5-layer ice cream cake was basically heaven. Overall: the food was incredible. I'll be back, blue moon! read more

I absolutely love everything about this place. I've dined here a handful of times and it never disappoints. The atmosphere here is wonderful for a cute little date. Now the tables are kind of close but I'm not bothered much by it. Service here is always spot on. The food is always great! I'm telling you, everything is seasoned to perfection, if a pea was sitting on the plate you better believed it was seasoned too. The amuse bacon wrapped dates are so good! My favorite is the cake. They have a cake bout the size of your head, chocolate covered pretzel crust with layers of banana ice cream, chocolate ice cream, coffee ice cream, coconut ice cream, all layered in a fluffy merengue with caramel drizzle and coconut flakes. My meal at Blue Moon last week ranks in my Top 5 dining experiences EVER. It definitely holds its own next to Gary Danko in San Francisco and Street and Company in Portland (Maine). Fiance and I went here on our first night in Rehoboth, and man, did it set the standard high for our subsequent dinners. We received an amuse-bouche of a gorgonzola-stuffed, bacon-wrapped date on shortbread, accompanied by a warm roll with ramp butter, and both whet our appetites as intended. To follow, we ordered the octopus appetizer, duck entree, and pork chop special, and none of the items disappointed; in fact, they totally blew us away. We barely spoke the entire time because we were enjoying our food so much (if you knew my fiance, you would know how rare it is that he doesn't chat through a meal, so this is quite the feat). Our server commented that we had a "wonderfully smoky" scent emanating from our corner of the restaurant, and that pretty much sums up our dinner. Delightfully smoky and absolutely wonderful. As for dessert, the ice box pie actually made me kind of angry because of how good it was. As I devoured it, I wished that I had been able to come up with it first. The silky texture and slight tang of the cream against the salty pretzel crust and the lemon curd.... the perfect combination. Drooling as I type. No longer able to form complete sentences due to memory of dessert.. Okay, I've recovered. Have been lucky to have visited 33 countries so far in life. Never thought I'd end up visiting Delaware, but it was fabulous. Maybe it was the friends we visited! Nevertheless, this was among the top 10 or 20 meals I've ever had. Again, was it the company, or the food? Hells yeah, it was both! We started each (four of us) with amazing specialty cocktails, shared two or three appetizers. Sadly, I forget which ones except for the crab cakes, which were unforgettable, especially with that sauce. Each had different entrees, all of which were wonderful, as us old folks were putting forks in each others' mouths. I ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir from my home state, but had never heard of the winery. It was exceptional! Sorry -- this over a month ago and all is a blur, and sadly, I didn't take notes. The servers were a blast, but professional and efficient. We shared a gigantic Baked Alaska type dessert among the four of us. Orgasmic! It was not cheap. But Oh so worth it! If I ever have the opportunity to visit this cute part of the US again, the Blue Moon will be my first stop. Visited the restaurant on a Sunday evening for a special birthday occasion. Place was pretty packed. It is on season so even mid-week I would recommend reservations. Cute dining room. Our waitress Kim was incredibly attentive, able to provide suggestions on favorite dishes and was happy to meet any of our requests. We started by splitting a delicious Boston salad (good size to split but it was so tasty I kind of wanted it to myself!). For my entree, I opted for the Duck which was delicious and perfectly cooked medium rare. The bathroom is shared with the bar side of the business so there can be a bit of a wait. If seated near the bar, I probably would have been put off by the loud music, but we were in the main front dining room so no issues there. A great, finer dining experience without the stuffiness. Visiting from Jersey and noticed this place was highly reviewed; so I checked it out to see what was the whole buzz. My wife had the Rack Lamb and I had the Poached Maine Lobster. Both dishes was great. We both were eating off each others plate lol. Service was excellent. The waiter was pleasant and made sure we felt comfortable. The atmosphere is great, the staff knows their sh*t, and the overall experience is always a positive one, with great drinks from the bar and solid, tasty dishes. More the meat eater it was a Gorgonzola stuffed date wrapped in bacon and drizzled with aged Balsamic Vinegar. YUM. I started with a Death by Chocolate Martini and the wife has the Mint Chocolate Martini. Both were fantastic. Wife had Duck Meatball special for appetizer and I had Butternut Squash Bisque with toasted Pumpkin Seeds. Heavy but darn delicious. Wife had duck breast with a Cherry gastrique and I had the Stout Brined Pork Chop, which was cooked to absolute perfection, topped with bitter greens. We skipped desert b/c we were so full. I took friends from out of town with the hopes of high lighting the amazing food in Rehoboth. I picked Blue Moon because in the past it had the best food. The prices are high, but I will pay for a good well prepared meal. Unfortunately, that is not what I got. The sea bass was dry and sloppily plated. The shrimp cocktail was so sweet that it was inedible and the pot pie was watery. It is sad to see a restaurant with such a stellar history fall to such mediocre standards. It was obvious that they are dealing with staffing issues, it took 25 min for a drink order and 45 min for dinner to arrive. I hope they can figure it out, because I love this place and want them to succeed. read more

The best restaurant we have experienced at the Delaware beaches. The duck breast is smoked, lending it a bacon-like flavor. The accompaniments were also strikingly tasty. The ribeye was well prepared and is served with a generous portion of bone marrow. The pecan pie is escorted by chocolate and caramel sauces and bourbon ice cream. Went here this past weekend for Sunday brunch. We did not make reservations so instead of sitting in the regular dining area or outside, we were sat in a garden type room. It was like a greenhouse, lots of natural sunlight with a piano player serenading us as we entered! I I love live music and the piano, however I do have to say that the noise traveled in that large room and it was difficult to carry on a conversation at times with the music so loud. Other than that, the food was fantastic. My husband got the eggs benedict with sopressata, sausage and hashbrowns. It was good. I got the crab scramble. Scrambled eggs, peppers, onions and huge lump crab topped with cheese and old bay seasoning. Good lord. It was absolutely delicious. I ate every last morsel. Very very good! For drinks I had a mimosa and my husband got a coffee with caramel, Baileys and whipped cream. It was heavenly. Wish I would have gotten one. The service was wonderful. Unfortunately, we only made it there for brunch but it looks like they have a variety of live music and shows on the weekends. They looked interesting to say the least! Went there 8/16 with friends to celebrate a birthday and anniversary. Lovely, intimate setting and wait staff was very attentive. Burrata salad and fried green tomatoes were wonderful as was the crab bisque. Entrees ordered were rib eye, stuffed shrimp, and seafood pasta. Bread pudding and cheesecake ended the evening. Plating was beautiful and food was very good. Exceptional wine list. I wish there was some acknowledgement of the special evening as we noted it making the reservations and told our server at the beginning of the meal. I asked for a dessert with candles and she simply replied "we don't have candles". Regardless, it was a wonderful meal and we will return but no reason to visit for a special occasion other than to enjoy a great meal. Definitely recommend. read more

We got take out for our anniversary - got the Mix and Match Special, 2 entrees, salad and rolls for $25. It was wonderful! I had the chicken parm- it was perfect , crispy and flavorful, and enough for another meal! My hubby had the Shrimp and Grits. It was creamy and really smokey, with large, beautiful shrimp! The salad had thin apple slices, just enough goat cheese, and perfect amount of dressing. Thank you for making our anniversary celebration really special despite these trying times! The boo and I came here for brunch. The location is kind of small yet very charming. The restaurant is very clean and is staff with helpful and friendly people. We were given scones when we came to tie us over until our meal arrived, which I thought was very nice. The mimosas and bloody marys were three bucks!!. The food came rather quickly, was awesome, and displayed very nicely (take a look at the pictures I got). The location was also full of friendly people who did not mind conversing. Had the pleasure of dining at Blue Moon while visiting friends in the Rehoboth Beach area. The menu selection, food, and service were some of the best I have experienced in my life. Everyone in our party ordered something different, and we got a taste of many things on the menu. The only reason I did not give a fifth star is because the seating design was a bit tight. That made for a bit of awkward logistics if someone needed to get up from the seating area. We had the reservation here but decided not to cancel after opting for seafood at a different place instead. the server was very accommodating understanding and friendly. The dining area was elegant and the restroom was very clean. We had their MoonPie which was an ice cream pie/baked Alaska. The ice cream flavors and consistency were very good. It consisted of banana black raspberry chocolate and another flavor. The buttermilk pie we had was not really that great. When we got to the restaurant we mistakenly went through the wrong entrance and were wondering why we were being asked for our IDs. I cannot comment on the Restaurant, as We only went out for a night cap. The unfriendly staff, and the aggressive door man made the experience a horrible evening. We did make management, and the proprietor aware. They were not the least bit concerned with visitors from out of state being comfortable , or even being welcomed. I spent two nights in Rehoboth this weekend, went to Blue Moon both nights. Friday, bachelorette party of 5. Saturday night, another bachelorette party of more than 20 women in black dresses. None of whom tipped the entertainers. We're not a petting zoo. You want to celebrate your upcoming wedding? Go to Vegas, go to NYC, go to Philly, but stay out of our damned bars.
