Made reservations for New a years Eve. Wasn't sure what to expect based on some past reviews. We were seated almost immediately after walking in. It took a few for our server (which was actually one of the bartenders) to greet us and take our order. I ordered the chipotle braised short ribs with a Caesar salad and my wife ordered the petite filet medium rare. First off, the Caesar salad was excellent, house made dressing is so much better than the crap that comes from US Foods or SYSCO. The short ribs were killer, just the right amount of heat and very tender. My wife had an issue with her filet, she was brought the wrong filet this one looked like beef jerky. We sent it back, the second one was perfect and according to my wife, the best filet she's had in a restaurant. We were very surprised they took the filet off the bill, we tried to argue with the bartender to put it back on. We lost. The Grilled Mahi Fish Tacos on the "Lighter Side" are my favorite fish tacos in town, no joke. The chipotle mayo mixed with the blackened mahi is incredible and I don't feel AS guilty indulging since they're served on corn tortillas. You can tell the salsa is house made because it tastes truly fresh. Next time I go I may ask if I can make a meal out of the chipotle rice. Seriously, it's that good. Creamy and light and not something you'll want to share. Although I can't attest to many other menu items, I will say the hummus is always a crowd pleaser! Also, if you're feeling ravenous and can't decide what you're craving on a Sunday morning..check out their brunch but bring your appetite. We've eaten here frequently as it's close to home. Lately our experiences have been less than desirable. Our dinner last night was bad. My partner got his entree and was able to nearly finish it before I ever got my salad. His food was getting cold, it needed to be consumed. The waitress never returned to check on us. A manager-type showed his face briefly but didn't offer to cover my salad, or cauliflower. He didn't even offer a reasonable explanation for the delay, which would have been nice to hear. The "whipped" cauliflower had large whole chunks of cauliflower in it, very unlike the whipped cauliflower I've had previously. Very disappointing experience lately. If you are going here for the first time, let me recommend to you the brunch. Their brunch on Sundays offers an excellent selection of both sweet and savory items as well as both breakfast and lunch and appetizer items. Everything on their brunch menu is divine and since it is a buffet style brunch, you can continue going and getting more of what you like and not feeling obligated to one or two items. I've never have been treated so rudely before at a restaurant. This used to be our go to place but it's really taken a downward turn. Placed an online order, called 30 second later and made a change, got a call back 10 min later and said they can't change it because it's already been made. Huh! Explained the situation to Chris M. (Manager on duty) who told me the change was made 10 min after order was placed. I explained that was not accurate and he told me to stop being rude! Eventually told me If I don't stop talking that he would cancel my full order (that I already paid for) and not give me any food. Went on further to ask me why I didn't cancel the order online and fix it? I said I tried and didn't work. His response was... no one else has that problem. Went here during restuarant week and when we arrived we were told that the chicken and steak options were not available due to a shortage. After waiting for a little bit, they found extra ingredients and were able to prepare our main courses that were options from the restaurant week menu. Used to love this place. The food is always pretty decent and the beer is cold. But upon my last 3 visits I've had the worst service. 20 minutes to get our first round of drinks and water, and 20 minutes to get the check. In addition to waiting 30 minutes for a table in an empty restaurant at 8 pm. I would've spoken to the manager but he walked by our table and saw we had empty drinks at least four times and didn't say anything. It's really unfortunate that what once was a decent stop for food close to my house has turned to absolute garbage. The prices are way too high for the service quality. My family setup reservations for Easter Sunday brunch that they were advertising. My dad setup the reservation for 12 people and they assured him there would be one table that we could all sit at together. Upon arriving at our time (10:30 AM), there were multiple people at the host stand and they stated there was no possible way for us to sit together but we could split up into two booths. This was extremely disappointing to begin with and unfortunately the service didn't get much better after. Our server was doing double duty as both the bartender and our server so he was seldom to be found. He took our order and then didn't inform us that we could go get the brunch whenever we wanted or even ask us if we wanted a "made to order" option (one of the omeletes). The manager was supposed to come over earlier as well but we had to flag the manager down just to speak with him. He was extremely unapolegetic about the situation and didn't even bother to rectify the situation whatsoever. If you want to find a place where the management cares, I would suggest going somewhere else. The food was pretty good actually but the waitstaff and management left a bad taste in my family's experience. read more

Heard some good reviews so we thought we'd give it a try. Happy hours wantons were a hit. Wife enjoyed the sangria. I've never been to a nicer restaurant where they just give you a can of craft beer. Very odd... ordered the crawfish, got the catfish.... didn't want to wait even longer, so I ate it. Not bad if you like catfish. Comes with rice.. or as we labeled it at the table, white gravel. Cold, hard, and ruined the dinner. Apparently no manager on duty to come by. Which I thought was normal for nicer restaurants. The place was only about half full, so if there was a manager on duty, they must have been elsewhere. Not planning on giving them another chance. Our retiree group went there for lunch at one today. We just had 9 but they gave us our own room an had a wonderful server. Menu had a good variety of food an we were served promptly and the food was delicious. We sat and visited for almost 2 hours an they were checking to see if we need any thing else. I love everything here. Their happy hour drink specials are so good, the American Honey Lemonade is my personal favorite. I always order the hummus which comes with pita and cucumbers and feta, olives and sun-dried tomatoes. Soooo good. Our other favorites are the crab cakes, wings and nachos. We were looking for a place to meet friends who live in Lawrence. We wanted to meet part of the way so we went here. WOW. It was sooo good. I got the salmon dinner and it was off the charts fabulous. Salmon was some of the best I ever had. If you liked Houston's salmon this is just as good if not better. We also had chicken nachos and they were delicious. Good evening, I hardly ever review a restaurant, good, bad, or other wise. However, this one is a must. Our family of four arrived and were seated quickly in the main, lower dinning area. At the time, there were only three other tables seated. All, but one appeared to have already ate. We ordered drinks. About that time, a table of 13 was seated shortly after our drink order, right next to us. We ordered our food, and five more tables were seated. This is where it all started. We asked for the a single salad to come out before the meal. Over 20 mins later it arrived. As we waited, all the tables seated around us, including the table of 13 got their food, again, their order was taken 20 mins after ours. I gave a it a few minutes, and asked the hostess to talk with the manager, as we had not seen our waitress for sometime. The hostess went to get the manager, she returned advising he was in the back, and unable to speak to me, could she take a message. I said, yes, I'd like to speak to him when possible as we were now over an hour before our food arrived. Another 15 minutes went by, no food or manager. Finally, we asked our waitress, who blamed the kitchen. At this time, we are almost an hour and half now. By the way, we ordered nothing that took time (Salmon X's 2, chicken sandwich and two side salads). Our food arrived, I requested cottage cheese with my chicken sandwich. When I looked at it, it looked like vanilla soft serve ice cream, and I could smell it had soured. I gave it back to the waitress who asked if I'd like more, or something else. I said, how about fries, as these should be quick. Nope, 20 minutes after we were finished they, the fries came, cold and not cooked. And, still, throughout this entire event, the manager never came over to our table. He did visit with the table of 13 because they had a complaint about their flatbread pizza. Again, not a person that normally says anything, but to top it all off, the waitress never brought our check, we had to ask the hostess, yet again for our check. The hostess showed up with it. This was right at our two hour mark. It is sad, because we only try to support local, however, this is one that we will no longer be supporting. Super sad! read more

Got a flier in the mail for the Blue Moose so we thought we would give it a try. The restaurant is pretty much a typical upscale bar and grille/gastropub. We were lucky enough to get a table right next to the fireplace under the Blue Moose head. We had checked out the menu before and the wife loves brie so we ordered the baked brie en croute which is a wedge of brie wrapped in puff pastry and baked. It is served with lavosh crackers, fresh fruit micro salad and raspberry sauce. The thin end of the brie wedge was warm and melted, but the thick end was still cold. We had our server take the brie back to warm it all the way through. The manager did come out and apologize for the cold brie and removed it from our bill. It was a good dish, just wasn't heated all the way through. My wife ordered the rosemary chicken and I had the chipotle braised short ribs. The chicken had a lot of rosemary on it, but it didn't overpower the chicken. It also had a rosemary jus which had a subtle rosemary flavor. It came with grilled asparagus and crispy yukon potatoes. The wife liked the yukon potatoes, but would have preferred mashed. The ribs were fall apart tender and very tasty. The chipotle sauce wasn't too spicy and the ribs were served on a bed of mashed potatoes with crispy onions strings over the top of it. The portion again was pretty good sized. The service was a little spotty and we waited a little bit to get refills. All in all this was a nice restaurant and I would definitely try it again. read more

So. Freaking. Great. Appetizers - had the espinaca dip (is that how you spell it?) well it was great. Lasted about 5 minutes at the table. Not because of small portion, but because it was so tasty. Drink- I got a tequila martini, I believe it was something "sunrise". It was yummy. And strong. Just how mama likes it. Entree- Steak medallions, with those yummy little fingerling potatoes and amazing asparagus. And some type of yummy BBQ type steak sauce drizzled on the plate. Just enough sauce, do not ask for A1, eat the sauce on the plate. The steak was cooked perfectly at medium well, I could cut it with my fork. Enough said. The potatoes were absolutely insane. They were so soft and delicate (like me) on the inside, but had a nice crispy/light crunch to the outside skin. Never had anything like it before, I literally thought about how they got them to be like that all night. I thought maybe they flash fried them after baked? Who knows. It was damn good though. The asparagus was perfect, lightly salted, a lil soft a lil crispy, again, like me. It was a great meal. Just a great f***ing meal. Dessert - you ready? BUTTER CAKES. JUST DO IT!!!!!! So freaking gooood, and again, thought about "how do they do this" all night. My girlfriend said she tried to bake them herself,but couldn't get it just right. So these little mysterious chunks of magic are reason alone to go back. They come in a caramel type one, and a chocolatey/brownie one. They are warm. Fresh. Devilishly good. And fresh whipped cream stuff in the middle of the plate is perfect with it. Also tried the Oreo cheesecake which was great also, homemade like most of the stuff at Blue Moose I believe, but everything is over shadowed by the amazing crack infused butter cakes. No they don't actually put crack in the cake. Maybe. Jk. Service was great! Attentive, sweet,cute, offered me a second martini, on my tab of course, but you know, nonetheless offered me another drink. But really, he was awesome. I know what that dish is supposed to taste like and what it is supposed to look like and the dish that they served me during restaurant week was a pretend chicken piccata. Our 20 minute wait took 40. Tables were left unbussed and service staff wandered aimlessly as we waited. Our first round of drinks (3 beers) took longer than our appetizer- which took enough time on its own. I couldn't get our servers attention and had to go to the bar to get a pint glass for my milk stout. One of the tap beers had a fruit fly, and arrived a chipped glass- and the chipped piece of glass in the beer. He flagged a server for a replacement, no problem. Our meals and app took so long we wondered if our server forgot to put them in. The quesadilla was one of the better bar quesadillas I've had. Crispy, not soggy, plenty of quality cheese, and served with a Chipotle ranch side. Our meals arrived hot, but took 35 minutes. when my grilled cheese panini arrived, it was just Kraft singles slices between slices of white bread. Because despite seeing where I was pointing, and confirming my order (with fries) he thought I wanted a literal grilled cheese (without fries). The manager came over with an ear splitting voice prattling on about how I didn't speak clearly, and the actual sandwich would be right out. The Mahi tacos were "fine" and the shrimp curry was bland. My sandwich, once corrected was good. Very spicy. Fries were pretty bland, however. I could have excused any one of those things happening, but all together it made for an absolutely horrible experience. I won't be returning, and strongly suggest you look elsewhere for dining/drinking. read more

We tried this interesting place on our exploring in Lenexa. Our thoughts were mixed. Best I can describe this place is high end/elevated bar food. They have an upscale sports bar atmosphere with a very well stocked bar. The menu is a bit small, but again, upscale. We started with the Mac & Cheese croquets. I thought they were pretty good. My wife didn't care for them. For entrees, my wife got a turkey and pesto panini. I got fish and chips. My wife struggled through hers. She said it was bland and the turkey was dry. I thought my meal tasted fine, but I did see mine had a nice sprinkling of sea salt on it. My wife had to go to the salt shaker at the table a couple of times to get her's finished. Overall, it's an interesting place. The service is good, but the food appeared to be a bit hit and miss. read more

Very disappointing to see NO ONE on staff wearing masks. We used to frequent this location and get carry out weekly so we decided to stop in for dinner. What can I say, this place is so yummy! There's a little something for everyone in the family and the food tastes homemade and is good quality. The menu is very fairly priced and comes with a good amount of food. I got the mac and cheese with spicy chicken bites and WOW it was seriously sooo good.
