I think the ticket price is a lot to pay for local talent. Much of what we could see and hear for a five or $10 cover or maybe even no fee at all. Went with some friends and had a great time, but frankly, there was nothing special about the performers, and the food was not that good. I did like the brussels sprouts I tasted that a friend of mine had, but I would definitely not recommend the beet salad. It was a green salad with just a few beets on it, some pistachio nuts and no other vegetables. The service was very slow this time and the last time that I went prior to the pandemic when I was also unimpressed with the food. I thought I'd give it another chance, but there was no improvement. read more

Great new restaurant and music venue in the former home of Jupiter in the Central West End. I attended a caberet performance and the sound was awesome. I also ate a few appetizers including shrimp cocktail and grilled eggplant. Both were good. Cozy venue. As a new venue they still have kinks to work out. Seating, crowded tables, delayed orders and putting bottled lime juice in my vodka club instead of fruit. read more

We went to the Blue Strawberry to see a Linda Ronstadt tribute. The singer was amazing. But the production and staging of the event was weird. Some bizarre guy doing a narrator type rule almost as if he was doing an interview, was distracting and annoying at best. I would've preferred just to see this woman sing Linda Ronstadt's greatest hits. But the biggest problem was the food. we specifically arranged and paid for a 7 PM seating for food before the show. We finally got our food at about 10 PM. We ordered drinks when we got in in the first round came after 30 minutes. Then we never received a second round. after a few hours, I just went to the bar and got another drink. According to someone at the restaurant, three or four of the people in the kitchen didn't show up that night. In my mind, that's not really an excuse. You got a have to have a back up plan in the event that happens. Make arrangements with another local establishment. Offer to contact Uber eats for your customers, some thing! But just not serving anybody after a few hours is ridiculous since the price of your ticket also includes dinner. I will definitely not go to this place again for a show and risk that happening. read more

I attended a birthday party last night and had dinner before a show. I ordered the wedge salad with Mayfair dressing and the shrimp in garlic wine sauce. The salad was not good for several reasons. The iceberg lettuce was covered in brown spots on every layer and there was less than a teaspoon of dressing for a half head of lettuce. I was able to find three or four forks full to eat but all the dressing was on the outside brown layer so it was plain lettuce basically. The shrimp on the other hand were fantastic. They were perfectly cooked and combined with fresh tomato and zucchini in a white wine and garlic sauce. Overall I would say it was good but not great. Their offering of select bourbons was nice also, I had a glass of Whistle pig. read more

HORRIBLE SOUND Six of us went to see the amazing Juan Carmona. The sound was as bad as I've ever heard in a small venue. The sound was not only distorted, but there were numerous times when the poor sound caused feedback. Customers were yelling "Fix the sound!". Juan (and his band) were utterly amazing, and should have been booked in a room that had great sound. SERVICE It seemed that the venue was understaffed. It took 15-30 minutes to get a drink. After we finished eating, we had to (literally) go find our waitress to ask for our bill. When the bill arrived, it was wrong. Again, I'm not complaining about the wait staff, this is more of a comment on how understaffed the venue was. FOOD It was okay. However, the Caesar salad (spelled "Cesear" on the menu!!!!) was spinach based (which was not indicated on the menu). ALL IN ALL Among the worst sounding rooms I've ever been in. read more

They bring in legit NY performers like The Skivvies, making the caliber legit and worth your time and money. The staff is friendly and attentive. This was probably our 5 or 6 visit to this establishment and I can only say it has been a wonderful experience as usual. Good food paired with excellent entertainment is a combination hard to beat. The venue is an intimate setting which puts you right in the heart of a performance. We ordered the smash burger with fries and both were excellent. We went there to celebrate a friend's birthday. While we enjoyed the entertainment and what food we got the service was terrible. It took 45 minutes to get a drink and another 45 minutes to take our order which took forever. We never even got the entrée because the show was already over. And when we complained they told us that we would get a free ride next time we visited. However when we called later about it, they said the only thing that would be free would be tickets for the show. It's a great concept but they really need a better wait staff. We were looking for a place to eat and saw that reservations were available for Blue Strawberry. We booked the reservation on OpenTable and showed up to the restaurant at 5:40pm for dinner. Well, it's closed. On Yelp, OpenTable, and Maps, it says the restaurant opens at 5pm...so why are the doors locked? Also, there is a sign on the door that says "Masks & proof of vaccination needed for entry". So, even if they were open, we STILL wouldn't have been able to enter because we didn't have our proof of vaccination with us. Why is this not stated on OpenTable? Then as we were sitting in our car about to leave, some girl in a denim jacket came out one of the doors to smoke a cigarette. Another girl came out a while later to do the same. Good to know that smoking on cancer sticks is the top priority here instead of serving patrons. Smh. Foolishness. read more

Great music venue, top notch. Based on that alone it would be 5 stars. Service is awful and slow though. We were encouraged to stay for a drink after the main performer finished. The problem was there was no way for us to order another drink. All the staff was busy and running on empty. Finally I asked for the bill....37 minutes later we had paid our bill. One of my newest favorite spots in St. Louis. We reserved a table for dinner for the Lola Kristine/ Ryan Marquez Trio show. It was one of our most fun nights out, and a perfect spot to celebrate our mom's bday. It's an intimate space with fantastic sound. We were excited for the show, but didn't have any expectations around dinner. Turned out the food was fantastic, from the appetizers (toasted ravioli, eggplant) to the entrees (our group didn't have much variety as 4 of us settled on the short ribs and one on the salmon). And the cheesecake was a winner. We completely enjoyed every moment of the show. Lola and the trio filled the space with great energy and incredible talent. We look forward to our next visit! A worldly friend once lamented that Jazz Clubs will either have good food or good music but rarely both. The Blue Strawberry has both. You don't expect the food to be so good, but it is. And the entertainment offers an intimate setting to hear cabaret performers, weaving stories into their song selection. Ken Haller's Medicine Show this week brought favorite standards into a new light when he interprets them or ties them to the narrative of his life. Impresarrio Jim Dolen always has an impressive line up of talent every week. Rarely can evening out be so satisfying. Even the drinks were superb. Sad to say but our final experience with Blue Strawberry was very disappointing. My wife and I "discovered" BS in the fall and enjoyed our initial evening there. The second visit was also very enjoyable. As a result we were looking forward to our Valentine's night out at BS. The night turned into a huge mess, however. Upon arrival at 6:30 we were told that pre-paid dinner was being delayed because of a Covid-related staffing shortage. This was understandable and we appreciated being told about the problem upfront. However, we still had not had our order taken by 7:45. After flagging down a waitress we placed our order. Again, we had to flag down our waitress to get our first course served; this was at 8:30. By 10:00 no other courses had been delivered. There were several other tables in the same situation as us. The manager came by and said that the remainder of our dinner would not be served and offered to refund (on our credit card) the full cost of the dinner. We thought this was fair and said ok. It is March 6th as I write this, however, and we still haven't received the promised refund. Numerous calls to BS have never been returned. I suspect we were cheated out of a meal. Needless to say we won't ever return. We spent the end of our Valentine's evening in a Sonic parking lot enjoying a great Sonic burger. read more
