My visit to Blurr Kitchen is far from a blur in my memory because of it's service. I was with my girl friend looking for a quick bite to eat before getting ready to tackle on some heavy shopping. Blurr Kitchen was doing well on Yelp and we decided to give it a shot after seeing pictures of the banh mi and fries! The place is located in a small plaza. This plaza offers parking but on a Sunday, it was jam packed and we had to find parking on the street and then walk. The place itself doesn't have many tables, but most people seem to get their food to-go. The menu is short and simple. You can pick from their menu of appetizers, go for their banh mi meal (comes with either garlic fries or salad), or go for their meal plan (comes with a base, a side, and a protein). I got the grilled pork banh mi with the garlic fries, and my girl friend got the seafood meal plan with rice and green beans. We shared our meal so we could try a bit of everything. Food wise, I personally thought it would be about 3 stars. The banh mi was made fresh, but I think I found the banh mis from Vietnamese delis to be a lot better. It just didn't pack as much flavor as I have had in other banh mis. In general, it was just a bit underwhelming. However, the fries were really something. I've never been offered a banh mi with fries as a side so I found this meal combo to be pretty interesting. The fries are smothered in a garlic sauce and they are also made to order. Piping hot, crispy, garlic fries! Yum! The meal plan gives you a pretty good portion of food. I found the fish to look good on the outside, but when consumed, it was pretty tough. The fish meat wasn't flaking away or anything. The rice was pretty good, but I think it could have used a bit more to it. This fried rice seemed a bit on the lighter side in terms of seasoning. The green beans were pretty spot on though. They were seasoned well and the texture was perfectly crisp! What really blew me away was the service here. Service wise, I would definitely give Blurr Kitchen 5 stars. Even though there was a bit of a line when we arrived, the guy working smiled at us and told us that he would be with us shortly. He saw that I was trying to take a selfie with my girl friend and offered to take the picture for us which was super awesome of him. I only found out about Blurr because a friend mentioned it's in the same plaza as Poke Poke Fish Bar. On a rather chilly October evening, which restaurant would I rather share a meal at? Despite craving a poke bowl with all the fixings, I opted for warm cuisine. A friend and I decided to order various items in the form of two meal plans and taste what Blurr has to offer. First thing I ordered was the cooked to order chicken wings! Yas! The photo alone has me imagining how hot and sweetly crisp those wings are. Ever have a chicken lollipop from Straits or Sino at Santana Row? These have the exact same texture and habanero glaze isn't as spicy, at half the cost! I think 5 wings are $6? I added an order of garlic fries (steak fry cut) since all other Yelpers shared their love for them. I agree, perfectly crisp exterior with a soft potatoey inside, but the sauce is too sweet for me. I prefer savory fries, pile on the fresh garlic! Big portion for these. As for the meal plans, we found out we could do half/half for both protein AND base! Awesome! And those friendly, accommodating, super chill employees said we could sample anything we wanted-- including the fish! My friend was a happy camper (she's the one that makes it rain Parmesan cheese at Italian places and always asks for extra veggies/onions wherever we go). For my meal plan, I asked for 1/2 garlic noodles/fried rice, 1/2 beef/tofu with Brussel sprouts as my veggie side. My friend really wanted the braised catfish but wasn't sure which base would compliment it best. The employee suggested steamed white rice and also mentioned she could do a half order of ribs with the fish. They had run out but nicely offered to cook a fresh batch for us! Once the wings, garlic fries, and ribs were cooked, she personally brought them over to our table in take out boxes. The guy employee also gave us a plastic bag without us asking! When we first arrived, there was no one inside the place, making us wonder if they were even open. In the 1.5 hours we camped out to catch up, the small establishment got packed! We even overheard some out of town-ers talking to the employee about how they drove over an hour in traffic just to eat a particular dish from there. Many sample offerings occurred. They also have banh mi! Too bad there's no cha lua pork roll. I think the sandwiches come with a side? With the meal plans, I was able to try the garlic noodles, fried rice, beef, tofu, fish, string beans, Brussel sprouts, plus wings & garlic fries. Worst banh mi ever!!! Most bahn mi breads are crunchy baguettes but they use some soft soggy bread. IMO the ham was cut too thick and cucumbers cut poorly and didn't taste fresh. Came here on a whim because I was craving Asian chicken wings - since it was on the way to work, I got my order to go. The place is in a small plaza shared by a few businesses, so parking isn't too difficult. There are items you can order from the menu, otherwise they have the "build your own" combo meal option where you pick a protein and side from their premade dishes. Similar to a Panda Express, but with a Vietnamese twist. The lady working the counter was super nice and let me sample their beef stir fry, which was tasty but I wasn't feeling it that day. Their chicken wings ($6) really hit the spot - they're made to order, so you can expect them fresh. The chicken was actually pretty big, each wing had a lot of meat on it. It had this garlicky honey sauce drizzled on top, which went well with the crispy fried chicken wing. I also ordered the roasted pork belly banh mi with fried egg and opted for the side of fries ($7). To my surprise... my side of fries was actually garlic fries. THESE WERE SO GOOD. I've had a lot of garlic fries between sports and festivals, but these are very different. You could really taste the garlic with each bite, and they must have also drizzled honey or something to give it a subtle sweetness. Definitely recommend these! Now, the actual sandwich was good - pork belly wasn't too fatty and they put a good assortment of fresh veggies (BTW, if you don't like jalapenos be sure to let them know). My problem was getting it to go - the fried egg's yolk burst and basically made my bread soggy by the time I got back to my office (~15 min). Worse, it seemed to glue my sandwich to the parchment paper, making it very difficult to unwrap, especially since it soaked through the first layer of parchment paper. The girl here is very nice and hooked me up with a loaded to go box of lemon grass chicken over steamed white rice and a side of garlic fries. It was super tasty in every single bite! Next are the summer rolls, typical Vietnam non-fried spring rolls. It had ham, sliced egg, shrimp, cucumber, mint and rice noodle wrapped together. It came with a peanut sauce, which goes well with the mint and brought other flavors to the rolls. It costs about $5 for 6 small rolls. The last one is the BBQ chicken sandwich, you can choose either with garlic fries or salad. We saw other reviews and said the garlic fries are very good, so of course we chose fries. The baguette was warm, and not very crunchy on the outside. My wife thought it didn't have enough pate as well. But the chicken was good, well seasoned and still moist. My wife also liked that the sandwich had lots of veggies, it enhanced the flavor and texture. Garlic fries tasted very good and was very garlicky. We enjoyed it a lot. Whoah! This place has gotten a lot better since I last went last year and has gone from "a good place to get Vietnamese style chicken wings if you're craving" to "a good place to get lunch" - even if it's a little out of the way. Basil beef is incredibly tender and balanced, their jalapeno beef is also tender and packs a bit of spice. They've got new pork ribs that are saucy are voluminous (though a bit salty to me), and their garlic noodles... well, those have always been super good. They also have more vegetable choices - the brussel sprouts were extremely well seasoned (not crispy though, if that's your thing, though they're still delicious), and more importantly, VIETNAMESE STYLE GRILLED EGGPLANT. Holy crap, despite being Vietnamese I've never had it prepared in this style and its SO good. Seasoned with garlic and fish sauce and lime and sugar, it's like a soft umami bomb that puts white-people-eggplant absolutely to shame (Disclaimer: the texture is pretty "mushy", so if that's not your thing, dont order it). Of course, sauteed vegetables and more "vanilla" options are there. Basically, there are a ton of options for the picky eaters in your life. It was seasoned steak fries and it was delicious! Chicken wings (4.5/5): super flavorful, crispy on the outside yet juicy on the inside, and I'd say it's pretty spicy (from the jalapeño chili sauce). Came here based on all the rave reviews. It's also in a convenient location, pretty close to the grocery stores (Target, Sprouts, etc). I ordered ahead on the phone for a pickup, but I heard the buffet style meant this wasn't saving that much time in the order process (if you're just getting to-go meal plans). What we got: 1. Blurr Chicken Wings, 2. Crispy Shrimp and Pork Spring Rolls, and 3. 1 Meal Plan: Garlic beef, garlic string beans, garlic noodles We also asked for some of the habanero sauce on the side. To be clear the sauce is not very spicy. It has a kick to it, but definitely less than ~1 habanero spicy (I have a good reference point from a recent experience with some delicious Jollof rice with 1 habanero - on the mild end - and this was definitely less than 1/2 that spicy.) Unfortunately, the wings and spring rolls were both lackluster. The wings were not very flavorful. The spring rolls were even more bland, but it was definitely crispy! I am not a big fan of the garlic noodles either. There was flavor but not very bold ones. However, the garlic beef was great flavor-wise and texturally. The garlic string beans paired well with it. Service-wise, the woman on the phone was very friendly. However, they didn't take any names even when I asked. This caused some confusion when the SO went to pick it up. I'd say, next time, just insist on putting a name down if you're having someone else pick it up and give context. Cost, I'd say it's average ($30 for the above order). Generally I'd place this more around my lower medium tier. I know a few places I like more that's more cost effective (and delicious), but I also know exactly what I like about them and what to order. I'll have to decide when I have a better handle of the menu (that has less misses). We will definitely be back for the beef. I think next time I'd pair it with just some steam rice and skip the accoutrements. read more

Echoing other reviews, Blurr is reminiscent of Panda Express for Chinese and Vietnamese food from the hot food line where you pick 3 dishes to make a meal, can order a la carte, affordability, and relatively fast service. While it's been a better part of a decade since I've been to Panda, I imagine this place is a better offering. We came for the fried chicken wings, but ordered a little bit of everything. - Wings: 5 pieces per order, the sauce was good just wish there was a little more of it. - Banh Mi with Fries: sandwich was smaller than I had anticipated, but paired with the fries it's all very filling. - "Meal Plan" of garlic noodles, chicken, and green beans: surprisingly still had a snap even coming off the hot food line where you don't really know how long it's been sitting there. Luckily they needed to restock the chicken on the hot line so we got it freshly cooked. Overall pretty good. Relatively small place with limited seating and the shared parking lot was packed so I imagine more often than not you'd order to-go. read more

My husband and I have been here once before the visit I'm basing this review on and we can't really say we were too impressed with the food, but going again this passed weekend we realized their food is actually pretty good! First off, parking here totally sucks especially in the early afternoon. It's a really small parking lot where you'll be caught in the driveway sometime because people are looking for spaces....and its off of Camino. In terms of food, we order a pork banh mi and a meal of garlic noodles, spare ribs, brussel sprouts and fish. All of which were very good, except maybe the sprouts(was kinda getting a sour taste for some reason). Ordering all of this however, proved to be a little confusing. We thought they had kept our meal order in the clamshell in the back so they can add the banh mi in the bag when it was ready, but for some reason they gave it away to another customer. We waited an additional 5 minutes...very weird, but the girl was apologetic and gave an extra order of spare ribs for free so we left happy! OH, I totally almost forgot; but I'm very much in love with their fries(that ones that come with the banh mi). I'd be happy just ordering this. read more

My favorite wings and garlic fries in South Bay. Come on guys, this is a HUGE deal to say it's my ABSOLUTE favorite. I mean what is Blurr Kitchen putting in their food? I swear it's some kind of addictive illegal substance (opioids? Jokesss!) But seriously-- these habanero chili glazed wings for $6 is ridiculously heaven-sent. Quality CHECK, quantity CHECK, reasonably priced CHECK! And these aren't some anorexic wings, they are hefty and sizable, a foodie's relief. The garlic fries are also to-die-for. I don't know how they coat their huge wedge-like fries but the glaze on the fries are finger-licking good as well. None of that dry @$$ fry sh!t, son. Added bonus that there are chopped garlic bits sprinkled on the fries. Okay I need to end this review quickly because I am salivating again. The craving is strong for Blurr Kitchen wings. They also offer banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) and Vietnamese-Asian inspired plate foods. They use paper plates/to-go boxes and are a simple casual store that makes everything FRESH and to-order. Blurr Kitchen is my go-to place for fast, delicious Asian fusion food along the Alameda. They are also open pretty late at, which is great because I sometimes study until strange hours in the night. It is about $10-$12 for a takeout box, but for me, it was more than enough food for a meal. They allow you to pick two or three sides, and all of which are seasoned and cooked well. I always get the fried green beans, and the garlic chow mein is amazing! As for protein, they have a wide variety of beefs, chicken, pork. My favorite are the black pepper fish and tofu. Even if you think tofu is meh, I think Blurr Kitchen's tofu is exceptional! You should give it a try if you're feeling adventurous. The servers are extremely nice-- one time I went in ten minutes before closing and my favorite, the garlic chow mein sold out. Despite this, the servers still offered to order some from the kitchen and made a last call. I was very satisfied with this little restaurant. read more

I found Blurr Kitchen on Yelp's new business list. The menu sounded good, so my friend and I tried it out for lunch. Blurr is in a little strip w/Starbucks, Jamba Juice & Noah's Bagels on the corner of El Camino at San Tomas. I think that space was a Chinese restaurant previously. The new space is clean and minimalistic. They have some tall stools along the window as well as a handful of tables and chairs, and a big screen TV, if you need something to watch. Even their menu is stripped down to the basics. You pretty much have three main options. There are "Small Bites," which are 4 possible appetizers including fried chicken wings, garlic fries, fresh spring rolls, & fried spring rolls. The second category is "Banh Mi" sandwiches with either pork ham, BBQ chicken, or roasted pork as the main component of you sandwich. The third category is "Meal Plan," where you build a meal with a base (rice, noodles, or salad), protein (chicken, pork, beef, seafood, or tofu), and a side (eggplant, green beans, steamed veggies, or soup). We got an order of Chicken wings, which are supposed to have the special habanero chili glaze, but since I'm a big wimp, I asked if they could make them less spicy. They said they could actually make a non-spicy version. woo hoo! The wings were similar to Korean fried chicken-double fried and coated in sauce. In our case, they were coated in a garlicky fish sauce. Pretty tasty. The appetizers are made to order in the kitchen, unlike the meal plans where the components are sitting in warming trays for the customers to see. We had great timing, as they refilled some of the dishes in the warming trays when we got there around 1:15 on Sunday. I got a meal plan with rice, beef, & garlic green beans. The beans were cooked perfectly and still had nice crunch. I was really surprised and impressed with the beef, because it was not only flavorful, it was some of the most tender beef I've ever had in a stir fry! My friend tried the rice, fish, & green beans. Her four pieces of fish were unevenly seasoned and cooked. That was too bad, but overall we enjoyed our food. The girl working the counter was nice enough. It was never busy while we were there, so I don't know how often they turn over the food, but like I said, we lucked out. We'd definitely eat at Blurr Kitchen again. You should try it too. read more
