I will definitely be back for more coconut, but I'll have to bring a reusable or biodegradable straw because they only have the single-use disposable plastic straws. I'll also need to bring a metal spoon, because the plastic spoons are useless for scraping out the coconut flesh. The service was great, and the girl behind the counter let me pick half orders of 2 sides and half orders of 2 proteins. Unfortunately, the food was pretty lousy. The garlic noodles smelled bad and tasted just okay, but I didn't enjoy it enough to finish it. I liked the tofu. The spicy pork had really good flavor but it was pretty rubbery. If Lee's Sandwiches and Panda Express got married, then Blurr Kitchen would be their baby, except with a more modern take on food. Located in a decent sized plaza on El Camino Real, the restaurant itself is nicely decorated with plenty of clean tables and chairs, ample lighting, and beautiful art pieces on the walls. The menu is divided into three categories: small bites, banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches), and make-it-yourself plates where you choose a base, a vegetable, and a protein. The first criticism the hubby and I would make is the lack of an organized ordering system. If you come in wanting banh mi, it appears you would stand in line by the cash register, but if you want to make your own plate, then you get in line by the bar. We didn't know that walking in and kept jumping around as other patrons who walked in after us were served first. It also wasn't helpful that none of the servers provided any sort of direction. The bar of entrees was neat, although we do wish each item was labeled. In the end, I chose to make my own plate with fried rice as my base, roasted brussel sprouts as my vegetable, and oven roasted chicken as my protein, which costed an additional $2 due to its large portion size. The hubby chose chow mein with garlic beef and string beans for his plate. The server absolutely STUFFED each of our to-go box with food so in terms of pricing, you get a whole lot of bang for your buck. My oven roasted chicken was cooked perfectly. The meat was juicy and tender while the skin was coated in a sweet BBQ like sauce. The brussels sprouts had a savory and bitter note that I enjoyed, although there was so much of it that I couldn't finish everything. The fried rice, however, was a bit too dry for my taste and didn't have much flavor. For the hubby's plate, he liked the chow mein noodles, noting the chewiness of each strand. The string beans were cooked well and while the beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, the garlic flavor became quite monotonous after the first few bites, making the whole dish taste boring by the end. Clearly, Blurr Kitchen has a lucrative idea, offering a variety of combinations that would please just about any customer. One of my favorite fast casual places! The menu is a little confusing. They have a cafeteria-style line where you can pick a combo of items or you can order food. We do a mix of both. Start with the cafeteria-style combos. It's called a "meal plan". You get a protein, a base, and 2 sides. The food is delicious! I usually get the garlic noodles as a base with eggplant and brussels as the sides. The eggplant is so good! It's so soft and is packed with fish saucy flavor. All of the protein options are also really good. I like the lemongrass chicken and the garlic beef. The flavors are all there, but yeah, I do agree with other reviewers that the food is a tad too oily. Then, we usually add a side of garlic fries. These are thick-cut fries with a sweet, fish sauce glaze so it makes it a little salty-sweet and has a nice crispy coating on the outside. The options are always fresh and well made-- and you can make your meal more protein veggie friendly with the cauliflower rice or slaw base. Nomnom! I got the roasted pork bahn mi with garlic fries for an early dinner on a weekday with absolutely no line. My food took about 10 minutes to come out. Everything tasted super fresh. The bahn mu has the perfect ratios of crunchy bread to meat to aioli to French pickled carrot and onion. I did accidentally bite into a jalapeño and my mouth was on fire the rest of the time. Probably more my fault though since I'm not a spicy person. Now the garlic fries. These were the best things ever. Seriously. We came to Blurr Kitchen on a Saturday at 3 pm for lunch. Surprisingly it was pretty packed and hard to find seating. Blurr is basically Chinese take-out. I didn't quite see the "Fusion" part. For two people, we ordered one bento box with Beef, Garlic string beans, and Noodles. We also ordered a side of Habanero chicken wings, which came out 10 minutes later as it's made to order. The bento box was delicious and had big portions. However, it was INCREDIBLY oily. They definitely could have cut the oil by 50% and it still would have been fine. Because of this I'm giving the entire restaurant 4/5 stars. The chicken wings were some of the best I've ever had. They're breaded, fried, then coated with a thick, sticky layer of spicy, sweet, habanero sauce. For $6 you get 5 wings which I think is pretty good. Eating here feels unhealthy. I really like Blurr Kitchen. Whenever I'm in Santa Clara I usually hit up Blurr for a nice, quick, wholesome, fulfilling lunch and I'm never disappointed. Blurr has been around a few years and is a delightful Southeast Asian restaurant on El Camino and just blocks away from Kaiser Santa Clara. With buffet style meal plan serving in addition to a-la-carte options I'm sure you'll find whatever you need to satisfy your pallette. The different times I've been to Blurr I've tried a vast array of dishes. On the appetizer side the crispy shrimp and pork spring rolls were light and delicious. The Blurr chicken wings were made perfect crispy with a nice kick of the habanero hot sauce glaze tamarind. From the meal plan options which can also be ordered via the a-la-carte route, the protein lemongrass chicken and coconut chicken will not leave you displeased. Hearty yet not overwhelming. The protein beef with jalapeño and cilantro is a must try as is the braised pork spareribs with star anise and soy sauce. With all that protein it's essential to pair with the garlic noodles (which are heavenly btw), and or some nice green vegetables, garlic green beans, brussel sprouts, or asian slaw which all I've tried and would definitely have any day of the week. I think this place is good and price is average. I am pleased with my meal. For parents of young kids or babies, you will need to bring the booster seats. There wasn't a high chair and I didn't check the bathroom if they had changing table. Anyway, the toddlers loves the noodles. I enjoyed the crispy wings hot from the kitchen. The wings are best enjoyed at the restaurant, I wouldn't risk taking the wings to-go. I'm surprised that I really enjoyed the eggplant. I was afraid it wouldn't be enough so I looked at the other food but nothing looked very appealing. The super nice lady working recommended the garlic noodles and gave me a sample. That small bite wasn't too appealing but I decided to get a side order to give it a fair try since it was so highly recommended on Yelp. That came out first since it was already cooked. I thought the noodles were too dry and the garlic too strong. Yeah, I know it is called Garlic noodle but I don't prefer to eat chunks of garlic. The chicken came out steaming hot. I let it cool just enough to eat and it was semi-crispy. I thing it was cooked crispy but the sauce softened it. There were chunks of garlic on the chicken too so I scraped them off. The sauce was a bit spicy hot; pretty good overall. I admit that I like Bonchon chicken more. The lady working when I went was super nice and helpful. I bet she is why this place has such high ratings. Hope management sees this and give her a raise! As for the food, I'm not a big fan. We were in the area and decided to stop by for a quick bite after seeing the 4 stars rating on Yelp. I ordered a pork ham banh mi which was delicious. Added a side order of garlic fries. It was part garlic and part sweet so if we were to guess the flavor, honey garlic? The flavor was good. The fresh summer rolls were a disappointment. There was tofu in them which was not listed on the menu and the sauce lacked the authentic peanut sauce flavor which plays a huge part as a dipping sauce in this dish. The veggies are pretty greasy though so if you're tryna eat healthy, just something to keep in mind lol. Tasty food that is slightly overpriced. During my most recent visit to Blurr Kitchen, I ordered the Meal Plan ($12) and a side of Chicken Wings ($6). My meal plan came with garlic noodles (4/5), spicy pork (3/5), seasoned fish (5/5), and Brussels sprouts (1.5/5). The garlic noodles were very flavorful and were super chewy, which surprised me a bit. The spicy pork had too much pepper (not in a spicy-good kind of way) and wasn't super fresh, probably because it's one of the least popular items. The fish was my favorite item I tried... ...it was soft yet firm (weird, right?) and really flavorful, and complimented the garlic noodles quite well. The Brussels sprouts were undercooked and were probably the worst Brussels sprouts I've ever eaten at a restaurant. The chicken wings were spicy and had a hint of sweetness to them, and were made-to-order. I'd recommend ordering the garlic noodles, fish, and chicken wings. As for the customer service, the lone cashier was very nice to me and suggested the fish and noodles, so thank you for that. I LOVE this place with just ONE meal that I can keep coming back to over and over again!! Love their garlic noodles, with their eggplant and tofu. That combo is mouth watering, drooling absolute deliciousness!! Their eggplant is cooked in a vinegar base - and so good with the tofu... I've had the chicken there too and it's just as good so it just depends on the mood. But that garlic noodle! Oh my gosh - love the thicker noodles with that garlic flavor - it's definitely there and very crave-able and memorable! I can't wait to try more of their dishes but I have to say I do crave that one combo - it just hits the spot for me!! Only came here for the chicken wings as I didn't care for the regular on entree stuff. This is pretty much like a Vietnamese version of Chinese fast food. You pick a couple of items to go with your rice or noodles. I don't particularly enjoy that style of eating and some of items didn't look that appetizing. There's also banh mi but I have already dedicated my mouth to only eat Vietnamese sandwiches from huong lan or phat tri (Fat Tree as I like to call it) in SJ. Now about the wings. The first time I had the chicken wings, they were crunchy, juice, spicy, tender and a little sweet. Definitely a 5 star for me but this time around. The wings looked a bit smaller, was still a little crunchy and more sweet than spicy. Regardless the flavor of the wings was still very good. It takes about 8 minutes for them to make the wings so you will be waiting a bit for them. I've also had their fries before and they are very good garlic steak fries. I am so glad I discovered this place! Everything I ate was so tasty. The garlic noodles were the perfect texture. The fried rice was actually just bland enough to go well with the meat and sauce. The brussels sprouts were delicious in every way. The green beans seem to be a big hit with everybody, but I loved the brussels sprouts more. I got the basil beef and the meat was super tender and moist. It is so flavorful that it needs the fried rice or even white rice to tone it down a little. And last, but definitely not least, I got the fried chicken wings. For $8, you get five big pieces, that are the perfect crispiness and sweet and savory. It takes about 15 minutes for them to make them since they make them fresh to order. It was perfect amount of time for us to finish the other food first.
