It saddens me to write this review because it makes me not want to come back for a while. So today my bf and I came by as usual for some bomb food. We walked in and saw that there was people waiting to be seated. The waitress comes to us to ask us how many people in our group but we told her the other groups were here first. So she seats them and while she's seating them a lady comes in with a stroller.. I'm assuming she was joining a party that was already seated because she walked right in. At this point there was no one else waiting to be seated. So the waitress comes by and sees that the door was open and simply says "can you close the door" and walks away... I said "please" out loud so that she could realize how fken rude she was. I looked at my bf and of course him being the nice guy he is.. he goes to close the door. (Honestly I wouldn't have because of the simple fact that she couldn't say please). As a matter a fact she didn't even say it in a nice way. Whatever.. I got over it. We get seated (by the entrance) and my bf and I discuss what we're gonna order. We saw the sign outside that said 2 lobster tails for $22.99 and agreed we would give it a try. A few mins later the same waitress (that told us to close the door) comes to ask us what we want to drink. I then tell her "were actually ready to order now as well" she says "okay, what can I get for you". Everything was going well up until I'm literally talking to her and about to ask her a question when this guy walks in and she completely ignores me!!! RUDE!! She could have said "excuse me, give me one minute" or something but nope.. she just completes acknowledges the guy walking in and disregards me. I look at my bf with a wtf just happened face and tell him that was rude of her. Of course my bf tell me not to say or do anything and just to forget about it. -_- the waitress then decides to acknowledge us again and my bf gives her the rest of our order. Overall, I'd give boat house a 3.5! My family and i were in town for my sister's birthday and needed a place that could accommodate 15 of us. After yelping something similar to & near the Alhambra Boiling Crab, we found boat house! If you've had the Boiling Crab experience, Boat House is exactly the same. So here's the lowdown: FOOD: Oysters: We got 3 dozen raw oysters to share and they were small, but really fresh. Came with your typical accompaniment of tobasco, lemon, horseradish Sweet potato fries, cajun fries..pretty standard nothing special Seafood: shrimp, crab, crawfish I specifically got 1lb of shrimp, combo sauce, spicy, 1 corn on the cob, rice and potato. This is my usual order at boiling crab too. They give you a good portion of rice, that covers one full plate. Some of my family got really good batches of shrimp that were really good. Mine was good, but you can tell the shrimp was overcooked because it was really hard to peel (and that's never good when you're hoongry as hell). As for the sauce, the essence of Boiling Crab is there but not quite. Boat House's sauce is a wee bit thicker and has more vinegar in it. But, if you're not trying to wait in the 2hr line for Boiling Crab, it's still a good option for a beautiful mess of a dinner. Service was great, all the girls were really attentive and had no problems refilling our waters & bringing us more beer. This is my favorite spot ever !!!! even more so than boiling crab, for cajun seafood in a bag. I got this place so often with my friends our group chat name is "boat house fiends". I always get the clams and shrimp, house special sauce, extra spicy (2x spicy takes away from the sauce in my opinion). In all honesty, the seafood is fresher at boiling crab but the sauce here makes all the difference. For me, I prefer my sauce more buttery and sweet and that is boat houses sauce. Boiling crab for me is a tad too salty and in your face. I also love how I am supporting a small business rather than a chain like boiling crab especially during these times. The fried mushrooms are a must have if you love mushrooms ! Im not sure how well it lasts if you take it to go, but when their dining room reopens post covid, its a must try ! read more

I went here with a friend today, since the wait was The Boiling Crab was absolutely ridiculous. Came here and got two pounds of shrimp with house sauce, half a dozen oysters, and an order of french fries. The shrimp was magnificently larger than The Boiling Crab; however, their house special sauce seemed a little watered down compared to The Boiling Crab. Oh, and their shrimp shoulda been DRENCHED in that sauced-- but it wasn't. On the otherhand, the house special sauce alone was pretty decent, buttery, and tons of garlic-- so I guess just dip &drench your shrimp in the sauce to have something close to "The Boiling Crab's shrimp effect." French fries were similar to McDonalds' french fries. Crisp, thin, and a whole lotta fries in one order. In fact, it took us like about a decade to finish our fries along with the shrimp. The raw oysters were absolutely terrible and weren't fresh at all. How in the world did I only eat 4/6? Like seriously... I hate wasting food, but it was absolutely gross how some of the oysters were not fresh. MOST DEFINITELY not coming here for their oysters, ever. The environment was alright. It was nice and spacious. Service was whack-- the waitress was too into her Asian novela half of the time. We literally had to call her to come help us with what we needed to be helped with. With all the bittersweet experience here, The Boiling Crab will still be my #1 eatwithyourhandsseafoodspot. Unless there's a ridiculous wait (like two hours), then this place does make a decent alternative for seafood. Boat House is another imitation Boiling Crab who happens to reside down the street from Boiling Crab. We decided to come to this location as we did not feel like waiting in the long line at Boiling Crab. There is practically no parking at Boat House so I would suggest finding parking on the street. I noticed that Boat House is more expensive than Boiling Crab but unfortunately, the quality is not the same. I ordered some crawfish and shrimp but they were smaller than usual. Not only that, those items were not seasoned well as only the exterior tasted like their house seasoning. The seating was rather chaotic as they do not have a hostess to seat you. Many girls asked us how many were in our group, but they did not seat us until 10 minutes later despite the fact that there was an open table. It's my first time there for lunch during the week. The place is similar to the Boiling Crab and only a few people were eating there. Nice little place and perfect for group lunch. We ordered more than $20 so we got a free bag of shrimp. Make sure you peel the skin and scoop out the black stuff f/the shrimp. Otherwise it was tasty. We ordered a variety of food-chicken wings were good, fish and chips were crispy, fried shrimp and fries, and garlic bread. Very good refills and made sure we were okay. My boyfriend and I decided to check this place out after we saw the ridiculous line at the Boiling Crab across the street. When we walked in, the place was fairly empty but there were about 3-4 tables with people eating. The server was nice and we ordered cajun fries, 2 lbs shrimp, 1 lb clam, and one order of potatoes and sausage. All of our food came reasonably fast and most of it was pretty good. The fries had a good spicy kick to it, and the shrimp and clams seemed pretty fresh. I like the sausage here better than most places because it isn't too salty, but they are extremely small. Although the food was good, it bothered me that there was so much oil in the sauce. My boyfriend and I didn't realize it until after we were nearly finished, but the amount of oil in the sauce could probably cause a heart attack. But then again, these places are never all that healthy to begin with so I guess it isn't that big of a deal. Overall, I'd give this place 3.5 stars; it isn't bad, but neither is it anything special. So we were still craving cajun and decided to just drop in here since we pass by it all the time and they're open late. Parking was easy. There was a large lot to the side of the place. There were two waitresses who kinda came around a few times. It wasn't crazy busy, which was good and made me understand why the two girls just stood around by the register talking. Fondly referred to as the knock-off Boiling Crab, two blocks down from the real one. And after today's experience, Id have to say it's a pretty accurate nickname. Boathouse used to be the poorman's Boiling Crab, but either my mind is playing tricks on me, or I was always confused and it seems like the prices here are now almost exactly the same as those at Boiling Crab. The layout, menu, and basically everything about this restaurant is extremely similar to Boiling crab, and honestly Boiling Crab wasn't the first place to sell this kind of food, and BoatHouse may have even been here first, but when you talk about Converse Chuck Taylor's, you're no longer referring to that specific branded shoe, but that type of shoe, and honestly even if a shoe was the same style but older than Chuck Taylor's you'd still tell people they were knock off Chuck's. Anyways, tangents aside, this place is...not bad. If you don't feel like waiting the almost permanent hour long wait for Boiling Crab, definitely come here. There is almost always no one here, and most of the times I've visited, it's been empty other than my party. As for the food, it really is similar to Boiling Crab, and it definitely comes out faster too, but I will admit that the sauce(house special aka the whole shebang) is a little watered down here. Where as I'm usually tearing at the eyes from even the Mild version of the Whole Shebang at the Boiling Crab, I got a medium house special here and I could barely taste anything, let alone the heat. The shrimp itself was eh.. You honestly can't expect great quality shrimp from somewhere that's just going to lather it in butter and spices. I also felt like they were a little stingy with the shrimp, we only got 14 shrimp in our 1 lb. bag, but I'm sure it happens at Boiling Crab as well. Two really important side notes would be: -The cajun fries are absolutely horrible. They are soggy and the seasoning tastes like nothing. I mention this because people rave about the Cajun fries at Boiling Crab. These are not them. -There is no catfish here. So if you were planning on getting it, try elsewhere. I went to this place as an alternative to waiting at Boiling Crab. I thought overall the food was comparable. We had the shrimp with all the different sauces and I thought they were all good. Maybe its just me, but it seems like you get more shrimp per pound at Boiling Crab than you do at this place. It didn't seem like our one pound bag had all that much shrimp. I'm giving this place only 3 stars because our server was so bad. She didn't smile, was really unfriendly and just had a bad attitude overall. Found out later that you must order 2lbs of crawfish in order to get one corn and a few sausages? I am not a fan of crawfish so it was disappointing to hear that it must be crawfish. Ended up ordering the potatoes and again, a little disappointed because it weren't RED potatoes...it was the regular potatoes -_- the potatoes were soft enough but because each piece was so big that it wasn't sauced correctly lol VERy hot! The cajun fries were nothing special therefore, for the price it wasn't worth it. Simply just some cajun over the fries (which was informed by other yelpers). My brother wanted fries so yah, gave it a try. They have rootbeer! yay! My mom likes rootbeer...a lot of places doesn't serve rootbeer Service was okay? Extremely garlicky house special sauce which hit the spot for me. I'm not a huge fan of the Lemon Pepper by itself as it seems to have a very strong spice smell to it. Garlic butter by itself was okay. Medium spiciness is more like mild to me. The sweet potato fries are very crispy and come in an accentuated crinkle cut serving. Wouldn't think much passing but this place , but it is undeniably delicious. Perfect place to try if you like seafood. I always get a puns of shrimp with sausage, corn, and the house special sauce. It is so tasty and just the right amount of spicy. You are able to chose , hot, mild, and spicy. I always get mild to stay in between. You can chose from regular fries or Cajun fries. If you're not ready to get messy with this duo but craving seafood still, I suggest the fried shrimp basket with fries. Very family friendly and good on task customer service. Boat House has a very unique taste to their house flavor, it tastes exactly like Chamoy. The Rice is unfortunately mushy, both the steamed rice and seafood fried rice. Boat house is underrated for their tastiness and service. We ordered softshell crab, shrimps and clams. We tried different flavors and all of them are tasty. I personally not a fan of lemon pepper . But all other people like it. My nephew had a tantrum while we were eating and the servers were trying to help him calm down. With their distractions and their candy treat helped. Everything was so delicious and I loved the sauce they used - it was just the right amount of garlic and spice. The owner and staff were really nice and accommodating. We got some crawfish (frozen, not fresh. Not in season) mussels, clams, Shrimps. I ll be honest, I have had better. Not enough flavor in bag. Shrimps were clean as a whistle not a drop of sauce/garlic on them. All the spices flavor was down the bag. We had to keep dipping them. Spicy level was not spicy at all. It's plain shrimp served on a bowl of ice and a side of ketchup (NEVER seen it served like this with no tomato juice). The ribs served with ONE brocoli and a few pieces of spare ribs (DEFINITELY wasn't $13 worth). Both presentation looked so CHEAP! The place had few customers but service sucks as well. The first thing I notice was the rude service I was getting from this old man. I walked in and he didn't look at me and just told me to sit anywhere. i live about 10 minutes away from boat house and have never been. i remember it as a kid being named "jumbo" and thats about all i got. i asked my gal tuesday where she wanted to go for dinner for her bday and she said boat house, so off we went. my first time and her upteenth. i ordered as i do at boiling crab - one lb of clams, whatever the name of their sauce is, no spice. the waitress was super friendly. i like the giant cokes that they give. cajun fries are pretty freaking spicy. all in all, its pretty decent boiling crab knock off without the long lines. so if you've got an itch but low patience, check this place out. otherwise, i think i'd prefer the real deal. parking is pretty easy, its a stand alone on valley - if anything, there is street parking. read more

This place is basically a nice spin-off of boiling crab/kicking crab. The atmosphere here is nice, and the food is very good. Same stuff as BC/KC but much less of a wait. There will usually be no wait for small parties, and when compared to the boiling crab on Rosemead... by the time you sit down there you'll have already received your food at Boat House! Their shrimps and clams are what I usually get and they are always consistent and delicious. One pound of shrimp and a pound of clam with the whole shebang sauce, mild. Trust me you cannot go wrong with this. In terms of seafood, this is on par or probably the exact same as KC/BC. You get your food EXTREMELY FAST here. Like 1/5 the time it takes BC/KC. And it's good. There are a few cons though. Their parking isn't the best as they don't have that many spots. Their fries are nowhere near as good as the Boiling Crab's fries. Their corn is also inconsistent, it's a hit or miss. The servers here are amazing. Linda is one of the servers and she is extremely kind and attentive to your needs. Her service is top-notch and I say that out of the sincerity of my heart because she been nothing but a kind and helpful waitress for all of the times I've came to Boat House. Your cup will be refilled before you need to ask, and if you do ever actually need to raise your hand to command the waitress's attention, Linda will be there in a Jiffy. Couldn't have asked for better service! Great service. Great (sea)food. Significantly lower waits. Bad parking and nasty fries. You can decide if it's worth checking out or not.
