The Boat House is my go-to when I'm craving shrimp, and raw oysters, whenever Boiling Crab is too packed. They pretty much have the same menu items and prices are similar, except the flavors are a little lacking. Their house special sauce, which would probably be the equivalent to the whole shabang sauce at Boiling Crab, is missing that extra kick. So is the red sauce they give with the raw oysters. Their sauces are a little milder, so if you're not into anything too spice, this would probably be a good place. Service is good, no complaints there. Parking can be a little tough. There's a few spots in front and back, but there's always street parking as well. read more

Please salt them!!!! Prices are comparable to BC. I just miss their past special - free 1 lb of something if you purchase 2 lbs of stuff. :( no longer available. I cry! However, the garlic butter is awesome. I think I like this one with my food than their House flavor. There's something that doesn't taste right with their House flavor - almost like a tomato-y based, red sauce. At times it almost had a weird artificial flavor. Coke & water = ~$46 w/tip Sweet potato fries was all wavy and old school. Loved dipping them in the house special sauce. The "extra spicy" was a joke. Took about 10mins till it kicked in and even then, I thought it should've been a bit more spicy considering its "xspicy." My nose wasnt runny until the last few mins of my meal- BUT it was delicious tasting and couldnt stop dipping everything in it. Corns = hit or miss. Few were stale. The sauce for the shrimp was a bit watery while for the crab legs was chunky. The only thing I really truly dislike was the fact that... I order the same thing at Boiling with my bf and we usually end up with 4-6 shrimps left and half a basket of fries. At BoatHouse, everything but few fries were consumed. The bag of shrimp was half the size at Boilings. Jipped :( Parking is a no-no here. Small, cramped... come in a smart car for safe parking or lifted monster truck and take up few spaces for even safer parking. When you walk into BoatHouse, a sign at the front says "No parking at neighbors" I did just that and I felt like a boss. Try not to park at The Hat. I haven't had Cajun seafood in a very very long time. So coming here, of course my expectations were high! We got the shrimp, medium spicy, with sausages, potatoes and corn and all that good jazz. It was really good, but I didn't think that medium spicy was really medium spicy. So we ordered another pound of spicy which was perfect for my liking. House special sauce is very much like the whole shabang at Boiling Crab. The potatoes were HUGE. I wish they could've cut the potatoes a little smaller so it would be easier to eat. We also got the crawfish but we found out that they only served frozen crawfish so that wasn't very good. It wasn't worth it for that. We also got extra spicy and beware, that is only for spicy food lovers because I had one corn from that bag and my stomach is currently feeling like it's inside the gates of hell. They provide each table with a roll of paper towels. Tip: rip them BEFORE you eat so you can just grab and wipe after you're done to prevent touching the entire roll and making it dirty. You can also ask for lime and salt to spice up your seafood! I would come here if boiling crab has long lines because this place does its job and I really don't mind it too much! They were Blue Point Oysters. Not bad. Pretty fresh. Cold. Accoutrements are tabasco, cocktail sauce and horseradish. Now I love me some oysters. But these we're still connected to the shell. I asked for a spoon or knife (metal) but all they had were plastic. Now attempting to separate the oyster from the shell pretty much destroys the oyster itself. I wasnt too pleased with this. Red Crab - Good. Had it cooked with butter garlic. It was good. I felt that maybe it was a bit overcooked. Since the meat was a little rubbery. Shrimp with Shell - Cooked in their house sauce. This is highly recommended. Their house sauce is spicy and very very tasty. However don't get the morsels within the sauce and put it on your bread cause it's orange or lemon rind. I remembered another friend had once mentioned another joint down the street with virtually no wait time, so off to BoatHouse we went. Yes, it's similar to Boiling Crab, and no, Boiling Crab was not the first place to offer Crawfish Boil-like food and atmosphere, so you're dumb if you give this place a negative star just for being similar to BC (notice how I don't use the terms "knockoff" or "ripoff"). We got there and were told it would be a 45 minute wait. That turned into a 15 minute wait when people didn't show up for roll call. Fine by me! The waitresses were cute, but not too enthusiastic. How's about actually smiling? I had the house special, medium spicy pound of shrimp and Cajun fries. My friends ordered the crawfish, calamari and a dozen raw oysters. The shrimp were very bomb and tasty and were well complemented by the fries. The calamari and oysters very delicious as well. The calamari had a good crunch to it and the oysters were nice and fresh. The crawfish were ok, but somehow they seemed to lack the amount of meat that I'm used to eating from similar sized crawfish. No biggie though. I've been to this place a several times before. Boiling Crab doesn't open for lunch so this is a comparable alternative. Location: Located on Valley at a busy intersection. Access to the parking lot is pretty difficult since it's a small entrance and a tight squeeze between neighboring lots. They have a giant sign so you won't miss it when you drive by. Restaurant Ambiance: The inside looks just like Boiling Crab with the wharf theme and the writing everywhere. Casual obviously. They have the wax paper. They also offer the bibs and gloves. We usually come for lunch so it's pretty slow, definitely not a bad thing. Food: Great! They have the same options as Boiling Crab. What I don't like is that everything besides shrimp is market pricing so you never know how much you're spending. Luckily, I get the same thing every time. I always order the shrimp w/ the house sauce. They only come in pounds so you can't do a half pound. The flavor is more garlicky compared to Boiling Crab's Whole Shabang. I also like their sweet potato fries. They're crinkle cut so it's crispy. I wouldn't waste my time with the cajun fries, Boiling Crab has better cajun fries. Service: They are usually very fast with service. They take our order and food comes out fairly quickly. We are usually able to make it here and be done withing 40ish minutes for our lunch break. Overall, I don't mind coming here instead of Boiling Crab. We usually prefer it just because the little wait makes it that much more attractive. I then tell her "were actually ready to order now as well" she says "okay, what can I get for you". I find myself enjoying the same style of foods but dislike the wait. I looked on yelp and found an alternative and just as good, or maybe even better! Down the street from crab house in alhambra is another Creole seafood spot. The boat house provides the same style eating but with different service, sauces, and deals. I went there for the first time after grinding hours on my last final from school. My brain was so exhausted that all I wanted was some good food and a new experience. I brought my gf to the boathouse and checked out the place. There was literally no wait! Maybe because we came on a weeknight but it didn't matter. Service was prompt and friendly. Since I was exhausted I wanted to indulge myself in a lot of food. We ordered a pound of shrimp, pound of crawfish, and an order of dungeness crab. The waitress had alerted us that since we have already spent over $30 a free pound of shrimp was coming our way. I did not complain, free is always good. From what I remember there were three different sauces to have your seafood cooked in, Cajun, House, and Garlic Butter. I would say that the House sauce was the best out of all. As for myself the garlic butter didnt have much garlic flavor other than grabbing the junk that is at the bottom of the bag. The food came quick and I was suprised on the size of the shrimp and crawfish. They were HUGE!! The food wouldn't be complete without some rice or garlic bread. The greeter came to us to make sure that we were doing fine. He also offered me a corona, explaining that it is only $1.50 *great advertiser*. My only complaint is the parking situation, the lot in the front is really tiny and almost nonexistent and also the lot in the back is kinda dark. We came here for lunch on Sunday, so the restaurant was almost empty and we were able to score a parking spot right in front. For four, we ordered two pounds of crawfish, a pound of the shrimp, a pound of the crabs, and four corns. There was little interaction with the waitresses after that except for refilling our waters, and they were quite attentive. Everything comes out in plastic bags filled with marinated seafood. The corns were soaking up the sauce in the bag of crawfish. I thought the shrimp was the tastiest of the three. The sauce was light and reminded me of seasoned ramen sauce. The crawfish were kind of small, so it didn't seem particularly worthwhile to eat. The clams were impressively large. The corn was really good, especially after sitting in sauce. Yum! An Asian Cajun/Creole style seafood boil restaurant that offers fast service and no wait. For the seafood boils we only ordered shrimp and clams with sausage and corn. Both Shrimp and Clams were $11 a pound. We also ordered some oysters, wings and cajun fries. They have really fresh oysters that were tasty, unfortunately they tilted our oysters to fit into their small plate and dumped all the oyster liquid into the ice, MAJOR FAIL. They should've just gave us two plates, we had 6 six people! Their house special was decent, but lacked seasoning and it really didn't have any kick to it, so that was a bit disappointing. When you order the sausage as a side it states that you get 10 pieces for your order..... you do but they're tiny 1/8 thick slices of sausage, I didn't count how many pieces but was a bit underwhelmed when I saw that. Boathouse is a good alternative to Boiling Crab. Yes, Boiling Crab is the holy grail, but the wait is killer -___- So, what do you do when you get the Boiling Crab and there's a 1.5 hour wait? You drive yourself to Boathouse! Boathouse is small in general. Tables are scattered throughout with the usual "sea" themed decor. Parking is very limited. If you find yourself circling the place with no luck, just park across the street in the plaza where Yogurtland, Phoenix, Crepe Luv, Cues, etc is located, and walk to Boathouse. Service is above average. The waitresses are nice, but they zoom pass by tables without noticing someone is trying to flag them down. I don't really care about service as long as the food is great, but excellent service just makes the whole experience so much better, you know? The sauce is slightly different from Boiling Crab, but it's a good alternative. You don't get to choose/mix and match your sauce as you would at Boiling Crab. At Boathouse, there's only the House Special sauce, and you choose the level of spiciness you want. But nevertheless, food here is good. Also, if you order 3 pounds, the 4th pound is free! What a deal! Here's what I ordered: - 4 pounds of shrimp, house special sauce, extra extra spicy -- the shrimps were a good size, not too small and not too big. Shell was still hard enough to peel easily. Sauce was thick enough to dip the shrimps in without it dripping everywhere. - Cajun fries with extra seasoning -- make sure you ask for extra seasoning or it'll be plain - fried mushrooms -- I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE mushrooms, so I was beyond excited when I found out there's fried mushrooms. The mushrooms were fried to perfection. The batter was great. The outer layer was crispy, and the mushroom inside was nice and juicy. DELICIOUS! Overall, Boathouse did not fail me. I been coming here with my boyfriend for awhile now. This has been our to go place when we want to satisfied our seafood cravings. We been to the Boiling Crabs but we prefer this place over Boiling Crab any time. The lemon pepper shrimps with corn are to die for and their Cajun French fries! Definitely wear their bid they provide you cause it can get really messy and oily. Also, be prepare to have your napkins ripped up already (you'll see what I mean when you try this place out). This is my favorite spot ever !!!! even more so than boiling crab, for cajun seafood in a bag. I got this place so often with my friends our group chat name is "boat house fiends". I always get the clams and shrimp, house special sauce, extra spicy (2x spicy takes away from the sauce in my opinion). In all honesty, the seafood is fresher at boiling crab but the sauce here makes all the difference. For me, I prefer my sauce more buttery and sweet and that is boat houses sauce. Boiling crab for me is a tad too salty and in your face. I also love how I am supporting a small business rather than a chain like boiling crab especially during these times. The fried mushrooms are a must have if you love mushrooms ! Im not sure how well it lasts if you take it to go, but when their dining room reopens post covid, its a must try ! read more

Sort of like Boiling Crab, but not? I would have liked to take my friends there instead, but with twelve people? We decided on the BoatHouse which is infinitely less crowded, takes reservations, and is, for all intents and purposes, pretty much the same thing. Both have this nautical theme going on. Their website made it seem like there would be more pirate stuff, but when I got there, I was kind of disappointed. Big screen TV's were mounted on the walls playing some kind of sporting event, but as I was introducing this place to my friends sight un-eaten, I was more worried about the grub. The menu is very similar, as is the style of eating: a plastic bag of sea critters is plopped down on the table and you go at it with rolls of paper towels to keep the mess at bay. I opted for something less labor intensive so I got the fish and chips. Someone at the table got an order of onion rings which arrived hot, hot, hot!! You almost couldn't pick them up, much less eat them. My fish and chips arrived the same way, with a little tub or tartar sauce and another one of malt vinegar Both fish and rings were batter dipped as opposed to rolled around in crumbs and were both really good, probably because they were just plucked out of a fryer and into a basket. The chips were also very nicely done. Props to the fry-guy- er, person. I DID try some of the cajun shrimp and it was okay. I'd say the main difference for me was the sauce (I think my fiance ordered their equivalent of the "whole shebang"), which didn't have that potent garlicky kick that permeates your clothes and envelopes anyone who ventures into your personal space. I thought it was on the tame side compared to Boiling Crab and without the savoriness. She also got some corn and red potatoes for me and they were also okay. The corn cobbette didn't seem as sweet as the other place, but for all I know, the cajun places go through the same wholesaler. Also, one of our potatoes wasn't cooked all the way through, but the others were nice and creamy. Still, the sauce is what gives anything in the bag its "life" and the contents seemed a tad uninspired. I could never say "no" to corn and 'taters, anyway. Another couple got the cajun style fried rice, which sounded weird on paper, but they said that it was surprisingly good! I took their word for it. Although both restaurants claimed to be cajun seafood, I think that they're both different. In terms of fried items, I think both are tops; in regards to the cajun bagged seafood, the BoatHouse is on the tamer side. I didn't feel like I emerged from a garlicky smokehouse that night, with my next stop being a hot shower. The BoatHouse's parking situation is marginal at best, with several parking slots in front of the restaurant entrance and some really dark spaces behind the building. Kinda scary, even for hunky li'l ol' me. I thought the prices were very reasonable, too. I despise oysters, but they were offering a half dozen of the snot-like creatures for, like, $7.00? I don't recall, but I do remember it seemed ridiculously cheap. Although I'd prefer to go to "the other place", the BoatHouse is perfectly fine. The restaurant never got full during our dinner, but there was a steady trickle of diners coming in for dinner; definitely NOT the chaos in the Boiling Crab's dining room. This place is better then boiling crab, plus we don't have to wait an hour to eat! We love the shrimp and mussels with garlic butter extra spicy. It has so much garlic :))) And don't forget to get sausage, it's a perfect compliment to everything. This meal tastes better with an ice cold beer! We come here at least once every other month, it's loaded with butter so we can't afford to clog our arteries too much! But we always choose this place over boiling crab! read more

Love this place in place of boiling crab for the lack of a line. House Special flavor is really good - just add a little lemon for a kick. I feel its not as pungent as the boiling crab flavor but is still really tasty and well seasoned. The soft shell crab is a favorite for me and the clams here are much bigger than BC. They also have TVs to watch the games and beer towers if you are into that kinda thing. For the same price as BC its a great spot! If you order the veggies, be warned its BUTTERY! So if you were thinking, "Let's get something healthy", you are in for a surprise. It is tasty though, and a bigger portion (its $10!!!) so i would recommend you getting it for 4 or more people unless you LOVE buttery veggies along with your buttery shrimp, etc. The fried stuff is good. Chicken wings and fries are the usual. I always get mild shrimp and medium clams house special because I would rather enjoy the taste of the shrimp with the sauce then just taste spicy. If you are the kind that just likes to burn, then go for it. Otherwise, stick with mild and spicy. read more

Boat House has a very unique taste to their house flavor, it tastes exactly like Chamoy. The Rice is unfortunately mushy, both the steamed rice and seafood fried rice. The fries taste exactly like McDonald's fries just with a sweet Cajun seasoning on top. There's no free refills by the way. read more
