Boba Bar looks like it is just a house on the outside, but there is a small boba shop inside on the right side when you first walk in the front. Parking is either street parking or in the parking garages/lots in the area, but it is hit or miss in this area. It is simple inside with a bright and colorful cat themed wall for photos, which is the only really decorated spot in the shop. Ordering is through the kiosk by the door, so not much service. I ordered their jasmine milk tea with boba, while my friend ordered their classic black milk tea with boba and popcorn chicken. My drink tasted a bit bitter and grainy, and not as creamy as my last visit. What's my favorite kind of bar? A boba bar! I finally stopped by Boba Bar after passing it so many times on my way back from work, and I definitely get the hype around it! They still have their super cute (and instagrammable) cat wall, although the resident cat wasn't around when I visited. Definitely need to go back again and make sure I get my fill of boba and cats! Boba Bar specializes in home style Asian dishes, and I loved how comforting and authentic their dishes were! I went with the steak and kimchi bowl, garlic noodles, and Kim cheese fries, and I was pleasantly surprised at how unique and well curated each dish was. Their food definitely reminded me of my mom's home cooking, albeit Korean style! Their drinks were also incredibly refreshing as well! I got the creme brulee latte and strawberry milk tea, which were both so creamy, decadent, and you could really taste the beautiful fragrance of the tea. The app doesn't let you adjust sweetness but for context I typically opt for 50-75% sweet at most boba places. I've had: - Strawberry Green Tea Lemonade with honey boba - good ratio of tea to lemonade, not too sweet, boba was a good texture - Creme brûlée boba latte - not too sweet, smaller than other drinks but made sense because it's a bit heavier from the creme brûlée - Strawberry Lemonade with strawberry bits - good balance of strawberry and lemonade flavors, plenty of strawberry pieces - Garlic fries - crispy and seasoned, the green onion on top was a perfect addition to add some lightness - Popcorn Tofu with garlic sauce - crispy, a little bland by itself but the dipping sauce was great - Garlic Noodles with chicken - noodles by themselves were a little bland but it made sense based on the description. Came here after being at Fanime and this place was crowded. They offer limited seating indoors and outdoors so if you want a seat be prepared to wait until someone leaves a table. This boba bar offers a variety of drinks from teas, cocktails (mocktails, non alcoholic), noodles/salads, small bites, and bowls. You can either order in person or go to the machine to place your order. I ended up getting the lychee mango mocktail added with mango jelly. This was pretty good despite the fact I couldn't change the sweetness level on the machine. This drink didn't taste too sweet which is great. I also ordered the popcorn chicken which you can add dressing onto it. We chose to not order dressing and while the popcorn chicken was good, I would say that it didn't come with a lot of large pieces of chicken and we were left with small crumbs of chicken instead. Overall though it was cooked perfectly where it had that nice crunch when you bit into it, but I wish they gave more chicken in this dish. The place is really nice from the outside and at night it shines and glitters with all the lights outside. Inside is small and compact like a tiny house. I know it isn't the healthiest of things, but the value was definitely something I thought was worth trying. The egg rolls were greasy and tasty. I knew it wasn't fried in olive oil but probably canola or vegetable oil. The 2 sets of 6 egg rolls filled me up. It was about 8$ for 6 eggrolls, but the sauce really hit hard. It was a sweet and sour sauce and it tasted tangy and delicious. The texture of the egg rolls and the sauce were fire and on point. I might have to try a few other things here next time. But overall the ambiance is nice. There were children and moms in downtown San jose which is weird because it isn't a pretty sight at night and with loiterers nearby. Pretty house converted into boba bar/restaurant (looks like one of those historical ones close to the university, in fact the one nearby is indeed one of those with plate and name). I went yesterday for the first time after the Silicon Valley Pride fest and I found everything to be awesome. Maybe was the heat, maybe was the exhaustion but most probably was the great flavor of the Thai boba drink mixed with the happy happening (pop-up shop outside) and the inside filled with mostly post-teenagers/not yet adults and some kiddults like me too...all celebrating what I thought was some sort of graduation or back to school thing and it was the birthday of the singer of some K-pop band. Needed a quick lunch and pick me up, so I decided to try out Boba Bar while I was already downtown. There was only one group ahead of me ordering at the kiosk. I browsed their menu and ended up ordering the crème brûlée milk tea with boba and their Braised Pork Belly Bowl. It was pretty expensive, coming out to about $22 for both (before tip). My order took about ten minutes to prepare. I will say their braised pork belly was very tender and better than I thought. I do with there was more sauce and for the price of the bowl, the portion was tiny- I was definitely still hungry after finishing it. The crème brûlée milk tea was initially super sweet. I powered through, taking a few sips between eating and it kind of mellowed it out. I was able to finish it but if they had given me the option to adjust the sweetness (which they didn't), I'd choose 50%. The boba was good and chewy, but again, for a very small sized drink, it felt overpriced. My experience at Boba Bar was ok- I think they need to consider working on pricing their items better for the portions they are currently offering. read more

Came back here last night and while the mango mojito was excellent, I ordered it with no ice and it came with a giant gap. No ice is a common request, so not sure why they wouldn't just fill the cup with a few cents worth of tea. However, I asked the staff member working to just fill the rest of my cup with ice and he did, which was appreciated. Even though it was super cold outside, I figured the ice could melt and I could drink it afterwards. Another note: the ordering tablet used to be standalone, and it's now a big screen on top of the open trashcan, so all the garbage smells hit you when you're ordering. It was a busy weekend in San Jose and Boba Bar did a great job handling all of the orders. The line was pretty long coming in, but it moved quick. It was great they had an option to order from the kiosk or at the register. I just ordered a drink when I went. I ordered the Strawberry Mint with boba and I loved it. It was so refreshing and not overly sweet. It was the perfect drink for a hot day. I definitely want to come back and try more. A heads-up: I haven't tried their boba and have only ordered their food through DoorDash on a whim and was not disappointed. I've tried their braised pork belly, coconut chicken curry, orange chicken, and steak with kimchi. All were great, but my favorite was the braised pork belly and chicken curry! The pork belly is soft and tender. The chicken curry was really sweet the first time (you could taste the sugar), but was perfect the second time! I enjoyed it both times, as I soaked the curry sauce with white rice. I will say they were more generous with the chicken in the curry the first time compared to the second. I love boba bar! It's so close to SJSU, stays open fairly late, and I love their food and drinks. I always get a mango mint mojito (green mojito with mango syrup). It's sweet, refreshing, and bright, really perfect for a warm day. As for food, I used to get their orange tofu bowl but the sauce was a little too sweet for me so I now get the garlic eggplant tofu which I absolutely adore. Crispy eggplant and tofu with a flavorful sauce and soft, fluffy rice. If you're looking for a snack, their crispy tofu and French fries are really great. The only reason I knocked off a star is because the prices are getting a little too high. If I were to only order the eggplant tofu bowl, I'd be spending $15 which is kind of crazy, especially since there isn't any meat in the bowl, all the ingredients are pretty cheap. That being said, I still get cravings for the bowl so it's turned into a special occasion treat rather than a regular takeout option. read more

Boba Bar came in clutch after a few hours exploring DTSJ catching Pokemon and me needing a place to refuel before heading back down to Santa Cruz. I was however very interested in the hot food options since everyone inside seemed to be enjoying a snack or two. You order at the counter and take a seat while waiting for your food. I ordered the Honeydew Milk Tea with Boba ($4.25) as well as their Popcorn Chicken ($6.25) and Braised Pork Belly Bowl ($9.50). My drink came out first and to my surprise, it wasn't completely basic. They seemed to use real honeymoon or at least puree mixed with my milk tea, and I enjoyed the soft texture of the boba. My popcorn chicken was standard but quite tasty and had good flavor. Get the dynamite sauce to go with it, which is simply sriracha and mayo mixed together. My braised pork belly was the dish I was looking forward to the most. The meat was well seasoned albeit a bit chewy, and not the same "melt in your mouth" feeling I was expecting with this Taiwanese snack. However, it was a filling bowl and enough to save for the next day. Boba Bar was a pretty chill stopover overall. Plenty of wall outlets and tables so I assume that students frequent here to study. The boba itself is also fairly good; It's not too sweet but also not entirely plain (coming from a person who orders 50% sugar on the regular). I do also quite like that there are two different ways to order! You can either get your boba at the counter (as per usual) or you can order right at the screen by the door. As a student that goes to San Jose State, it's hard not to go to this place since it's one of the closest boba spots on campus with enough seating for a medium group of people. The service for drinks is oddly fast that it makes you question how they prep their drinks but they still taste good. The food is quite pricey especially since they know who their target audience is and what area their in but it doesn't discredit how good most of the food is here. I sometimes grab food from here before heading to class and I feel satisfied all the time both portion and taste wise. Some of the dishes need more sauce but I find it easy to overlook. Lotsa tables inside and out, located in an old, drafty victorian, always friendly service and the boba is the perfect consistency! Parking can be a B but I've lucked out recently with street parking.
