Today was my first time here. First impression, location wise its nice for summer/hot days, only outdoor seating areas and no indoor. My friend and i ordered the Matcha green tea milk tea with red beans and we both thought it was soooooooo sweet omg I never tasted anything so sweet before lol flavor is good but definately need to get less sweet. Its also on the pricy side 4 bucks but i guess typical for what it is, boba is gettin more and more expensive nowadays... One of the best boba places in the Bay Area! The people are so nice and the boba is so good!

This is one of my favorite boba spots in the Bay Area so far. It's a simple, no frills kiosk in the middle of downtown RWC. If you can't find parking, they have the "loading zones" right in front of the storefront that let you park for 15 (?) min max. I haven't had problems parking there yet, but as a full disclaimer I don't know for sure if it's ok... please don't tow my car, city of RWC. Their menu is quite large, but I have found my (simple) drink on my first try, thanks to the advice of the very pleasant person working the cash register. Roasted tea with boba ($3.50 for a large)!!! Told ya it was simple. They also offer some other fruity teas (although I would love for them to add strawberry), and of course tons of types of milk tea. Their tea is great and at 25% sweetness, my drankkk is perfect. In addition to adjusting the sweetness, you can also adjust the amount of ice, which is always a bonus. They always make it quickly, so people like me who park in the loading zone don't have to worry. ;) YAY this place has stamp cards!! Boba places need to have loyalty programs, in my opinion. Boba is delicious here, the balls are made to perfection every time. The service is incredibly friendly, specially the young guy who is sometimes there, always greet you with a smile, even when there is a long line. It normally isnt that busy, but there are many events in downtown redwood city and when the plaza gets packed, so does this little kiosk. Other than boba they serve smoothies and some fresh juice depending on the season. I have only tried the watermleon juice and it was very refreshing, just like a homemade watermelon juice with no bs added. I like the concept of this little shack like boba shop. It's fast and easy, also they have more flavors than regular Cha Times. Looking for Boba? Look no further. These guys not only make the best boba I have ever tried but also have an amazing personality. Their extraordinary customer service makes me want to support their business even when I do not feel like drinking their products. I can't think of enough good things to say about them and do not understand why there is not always a line at this shop. I have tried other places in Redwood City (and outside of RWC) and, really, nothing compares to the quality of their products and the good vibes from their employees. Chatime is located in a tiny standalone building to the side of the San Mateo County History Museum. My coworkers and I stopped by after lunch at a nearby restaurant, and there was no line when we arrived around noon on a Friday. However, a big group arrived right after us. Even though it didn't seem like there were any orders in front of ours, it still took them 5-10 minutes to make 5 drinks. I tried their Taro Milk Tea ($4.60), which was really good. I liked this version a lot since they add in tons of taro bits/puree, and you really get a great taro flavor that isn't from powder. I would definitely get this tea again, and will be back to Chatime! read more

I wish I found this spot before I was moving! I lived in San Mateo County for 2 years and barely finding out about this gem! The staff which seem to be the owner, was so nice! You can tell he really loves his business. The boba drinks there are so yummy! Only downfall is parking can be difficult to find. But totally worth it! Chatime is located in something that I wouldn't think would hold a business (it looks like it should be the plinth for a large statue), but I think it's really cool that they could fit some little businesses into those corners of the square :) I've been by a couple of times, and while the drinks are not amazing, they're certainly not bad, either. The guy who takes your order is really chipper (in a good way, although it caught me off guard the first time), and the drinks are usually assembled really quickly, which I can appreciate. The pearls themselves have been a good texture and fairly consistent across my visits, so if that is most important to you, this place will work. There's not really a place to sit and no interior that you can enter (there's a little cafe table by the pickup window, but that holds like the straws and napkins for the place), but it's a very nice area of Redwood City to take a stroll through while you sip your tea if you are so inclined. Overall, as the rating text says, this place is A-OK. It's a cute little kiosk, and convenient if you happen to be walking around town, but not destined to be a favorite for me. read more

I go for 25% sugar. * Pearl Milk Tea - 3.5 stars: Standard nondairy creamer boba tea - hits the spot when you're in a pinch. Order this 30% sweet. Option for real fresh whole milk - order as a "black tea latte" * Black Tea Mousse - 3 stars: Tea is strong, didn't like the mousse (had a coconut non-dairy flavor). Grass Jelly was decent, and sweetened so I ordered this 0% sweet and it was perfect. Would opt for the Oolong or Roasted Tea (green) next time. You won't find that at TeaTime, Teaquation, or ComeBuy. The nearest comparable avocado smoothie option is across the street at Greenleaf (they have almond milk!) and Pho Dong (only use powdered milk and half and half), but I prefer Chatime for overall flavor, tapioca and price. read more

I think there were only two people in front of me and three ladies working but it took a little while for my drink to be ready. My Hawaiian tea was fine but doesn't compare to the likes of Boba Guys or ShareTea. Tasted a little watery even with lighter ice. Solid place for boba if you're already in the area. Otherwise, I would suggest heading to downtown San Mateo for lots of options for good boba. read more

Chatime! They offer the best of all worlds. I love fruit milk teas, but fairly hard to find. But, then once you find it you are left with a extremely sugar ladened drink. Don't want that! Chatime has banana milk tea which is super rare and mango, which I love too. They also offer customization that is key to the perfect tea treat. Most importantly, you are able to select the amount of sugar and ice. Now, for those of you who want to go there and try it, this is the best part of the review. Never add sugar to fruit milk teas because the fruit concentrate they use already has sugar that cannot be calibrated. Therefore, never add sugar, and you'll end up with a creamy- fruity- slightly sweet treat. Absolute perfection! When, I'm in the area, I always buy two, and get Boba in one and fruit or pudding in the other. I drink the one with fruit or pudding added the next day. There is no difference in the taste or consistency. Don't try it with Boba though; you'll end up with mushy balls. The Redwood City location is a beautiful setting and relaxing. Parking is not easy though. That means I REALLY SUPER LOVE IT to deal with limited metered parking. Oh, how I wish Chatime would expand to San Jose, but we all know there is too much Bubble tea here already. Lastly, a big thank you to the great employees that work there. I've never been a fan of the Chatime chain, they typically offer lackluster tea flavor in their drinks. However, the RWC Chatime has time and time again impressed me with the versatility of their menu. While there aren't any stand-out amazing drinks on their menu, I have yet to have a drink I haven't liked. They make a very competent traditional pearl milk tea, offering a good amount of tea flavor. Recommended at 25% sugar and less ice. However, that's not what's special about this location. Once you start exploring their menu there are a ton of drinks they do well - on a rainy cold day, I love getting the matcha milk tea hot with 0% sugar and red bean. On a hot day, I love getting a fruit milk tea (which they make with nectar and not syrup!!!) at 0% sugar with pearls. If I'm craving Happy Lemon at work, their "mousse" drinks are basically the salted cheese drinks Happy Lemon offers with a more subdued yet enjoyable experience. No matter what kind of craving I have, Chatime is able to deliver. To top off the experience, the location is very well situated next to the History Museum, and is manned by probably one of the most friendliest people I've ever met. He's always willing to modify drinks if you mess up your sugar level and always brings a smile to my face :) Strongly recommended for the area, despite the many Instagram-ready boba shops that are readily available in the RWC area. read more

Upgraded... The last time I stopped at Chatime, I had to deduct a star because the taste of my favorite beverage was just not right. However, the owner Cindy responded to my review, apologized, and offered me a complimentary beverage! Wow! Talk about customer service! Thus, after today's experience I am upgrading Chatime back to five star status. This afternoon, I stopped by to see Cindy. She was very apologetic about my prior experience, and also explained what could have cause the discrepancy in taste that I was used to and thoroughly adored. She also followed through with her offer, and made me a delicious Iced Passion Green Tea (that I am savoring it with tiny sips), and gave me a couple coupons for future use.
