UPDATE: One year later and they're still bomb! I understand you can't please 100% of all customers but their drinks are great. Which shows by the ratio of the good reviews to the bad ones. It makes me lol when certain people think customer is king and can do no wrong. Just because businesses won't bend over backwards for y'all every single time doesn't mean they have bad service. I still enjoy this place for boba, but find myself getting more dismayed by their pricing, as I still don't feel it's really justified for what you get. I always ask for less ice in my drinks, but I feel like they still end up giving me the standard amount of ice, or they skimp out on the amount of tea they put in the cups. I also wish they offered smaller sizing as an option or were at least willing to split a cup in half, especially for children. Although I used to think the customer service was pretty good here, I have more recently noticed it's really just the husband who is friendly and talkative. The wife usually takes the orders and she has a really cold disposition in general. She often seems annoyed and unhappy with her job. Plenty of parking and I'd say all the times I've been here that there's never a line to order your drinks. When you do order, the associates make your drinks with care and take their time (i.e, it's not like your assembly line in some other places). Came here a long time ago and I thought it was okay. But recently went back for some milk tea and I was pleasantly surprised. I ended up ordering the Ceylon milk tea 75% sweet. It was very delicious. I am so happy to say that you could actually taste the tea which to me is a quality place. *Don't come here if you prefer strong tea* After seeing all the glowing reviews, I can say that I'm actually disappointed. The inside of the shop is cute, spacious, and is an ideal study spot. The parking is also easy to navigate since it's in a plaza. I asked the cashier if I should get the Ceylon black milk tea or the TGY oolong milk tea. I was given a blank stare and told "They are two entirely different types of tea." Not what I asked. I know they are two different types and I guess my question was misinterpreted. The cashier then went on to say that the oolong had a slight rose flavor and so I decided to try it. I'm not usually one to care if a cashier is straight to the point and efficient. But, if a customer is asking for a recommendation, this is the time to spotlight the pros of the different drinks you offer. TGY oolong milk tea with boba: A 75% sweetness here is like a 25% sweet at other boba stores. Weak tea. Very creamy and I do detect the rose notes in the tea. But too much creamer and not enough tea flavor shines through. I'm missing that nice full-bodied flavor associated with oolong. Boba: Probably the highlight of the drink. The texture is spot on and chewy. I don't really like that the boba and drink overall is sweetened with simple syrup. I think using honey or brown sugar makes for a better drink/flavor profile. Doesn't need to be a sugar bomb, but plain simple syrup doesn't wow me. Peach black tea: Cloudy, so you know they use real peach instead of the stuff from artificial syrup. Regular sugar here is like 50-75% at other shops. Again weak tea flavor. It's tart and has a punchier taste compared to the TGY oolong milk tea. Overall: I was hoping for a much better experience than the one I had. Reasonably priced is a pro, but our drinks were unimpressive. With all the high reviews, I was excited and brought my friend along for a boba run. Good to know that this place is great for studying. But not impressed with the drinks we tried. read more

The place itself is clean, bright and airy. The menu is based off of 3 teas; Ceylon black tea, Jasmine Green tea and Tieguanyin tea. I got the Matcha latte with soy milk. Which the owner and I agreed was an awesome pairing. My husband got the banana smoothie and cheese Ceylon black tea. I was curious about the cheese tea at first, but it turned out to be delicious. Came here after eating sushi next door and reading the reviews on Yelp so I decided to try it out as well. The drink menu isn't super overwhelming and there's about 3-4 drinks in each category like milk teas, teas, fruit drinks, etc. I chose the oolong tea and my boyfriend chose the Ceylon black milk tea (which I thought was really interesting because not a lot of places serve Ceylon as an option). When you walk in there's a iPad so you can self order which is super convenient (reminds me of sunright tea studio). The drinks come in a super long cup so you get what you pay for. My oolong tea was very strong but smooth and had just the right about of sweetness. My boyfriend really enjoyed his Ceylon milk tea as well. EDIT: Honestly, my coworker and I can't stop thinking about this place (we talk about it every day), so I wanted to upgrade my review to be more specific about their boba. We talked to the owner of the shop for awhile and here are just some things I want to mention. 1) The two owners, who are wife and husband, travelled for 4 months around Asia, including Japan and Taiwan, so they can find the highest quality tea supplier. For tea lovers, their milk tea is going to feel like heaven. Unlike many other boba shops that hinder the true taste of tea by putting too much sweetener, bobateaque reduces the amount of sweetener so you can actually taste the quality of the tea they use. If you normally get 50% sugar level anywhere else, get 75% here. 2) Their boba is so fresh. They don't keep the boba warm to prevent spoilage like other boba shops do. They keep the boba in room temperature like they're supposed to be and throw out any leftovers within a few hours. As a result, the boba is perfectly chewy and fresh AF. Also, they give you so much. For the first time in my life, I couldn't finish all the boba because it was too much. Not complaining though. 3) They use whole milk. Okay so I like to think I'm a health freak (at least at home) so I usually avoid whole milk, but oh my goodness, their milk tea is so worth that extra calorie. I don't know if it's really the whole milk they use or the way they make it, but their milk tea just tastes FRESH and the texture is oh so satisfying. It has the density of a true milk tea. 4) There aren't many boba shops that make boba or milk tea the traditional way. What does this mean? I don't know, I'm not an expert at making boba. But when I saw the owner whipping up my milk tea, he was doing some 10/10 bartender tricks, mixing and blending in ways I've never seen before at any other boba shops. What did I order? I ordered the popular Black milk tea thinking that the green milk tea won't be good according to one of the reviews. It blew my mind, but my coworker who lives close by and is starting to go every week said the green milk tea is even better. I don't even live in OC, but for this boba, I'm planning to go every month. My friends think I'm crazy but San Gabriel boba will never be enough for me anymore. The girl working at the counter that took our order was so sweet and let us know that all their milk teas are dairy free which was awesome since I don't eat dairy. We both got the Jasmine Green Milk tea with boba and it was delicious. It has the perfect amount of tea flavor and the boba has a nice caramel flavor to it. Hopefully one day they'll decide to do a size upgrade since the cup is a little small. Decor is so cute and the logo is as well. The shop is modern looking and very aesthetically pleasing. We ordered the oolong tea latte and the cheese ceylon black tea. If you come, definitely get one of their cheese foam teas because it is so unique and delicious! It's tea on the bottom, with a foam made out of cream cheese and a sprinkle of sea salt on top. It's a revelation! The owner was super nice and chatty too. He talked to us about the different drinks. And the other server (whom I assume was his wife) hand delivered the drinks to us. Oh, back to my drink. I did enjoy it. I don't like too sweet of a milk tea drink but the problem is if i lower the sweetness, the tea is steeped to long and becomes bitter. Now if you don't want it to be bitter, you gotta put a-lot of sugar. I've been looking for authentic tasting boba tea shops around and I definitely consider this to have a more authentic taste than other boba shops I've tried in OC so far! I ordered the royal ceylon black tea with boba. The tea flavor really stands out in the drink while the milk just adds the creaminess and sweetness instead of overpowering the tea flavor or diluting out the tea. The boba chewiness and texture was also on-spot. I've had a few misses where some places would have good quality tea but boba that was too stiff or overcooked. So points for that. I would definitely come back here again and recommended this place to a few friends! I came here when it was closed to in-person seating due to COVID but the store had a cute, minimalistic design.
