Friendly little neighborhood restaurant that was very close to our Airbnb. We stopped in for breakfast but they also serve lunch and have a great prices on drinks. Breakfast is served all day and the menu is extensive. There are no inside tables only long counters for seating. There are several outside tables and on a beautiful day I'm certain that's where I would be sitting! We enjoyed an omelette and eggs with sausage. Both meals came with Grits and a biscuit. I have never had a restaurant experience as abhorrently displeasing and unacceptable as I've had at Bob's Downtown Restaurant. I never write reviews of restaurants, but after having lunch here, I feel it is my civic duty to recommend anyone reading this to reconsider dining there. I'll start by attributing its only saving grace to the outside waitress - whose name I regrettably can't remember; she was uncommonly accommodating and courteous. However, the kitchen staff was disappointingly slow for a downtown restaurant during lunch hours (on a Saturday) and completely ineffectual at delivering an order properly prepared. My chief complaint is toward Bob's uncouth manager "Tony"; he was superlatively discourteous, having a non-existent sense of customer service, and rather than making an opportunity for redemption out of a legitimate complaint against the poor service rendered, Tony exasperated the situation and antagonized the complainants. (Their food was undercooked and took over an hour to deliver) The childishly intemperate unprofessionalism Tony displayed did not only irredeemably reflect poorly on himself, but embarrassed the patrons he insulted as well as the establishment of Bob's Downtown Restaurant. When he was politely informed that the wait was taking longer than expected, Tony oafishly responded "And...?" before walking away. Having no one else to turn to, the waitress was queried once again about the food and the manager's rude behavior to which she replied by sending him back out to address a new complaint. To his credit, Tony attempted to empathize for a total of 10 seconds before his unacceptable demeanor was called into question. He then outlandishly lashed out at the customers, telling them that someone else would eat their food and to never come back. He continued to antagonize the most agitated customer of the party as they were attempting to remove themselves from the quarrel. Tony then came to apologize to my friend and me for the guests' rude behavior. I responded by saying "I'm moreso appalled by the way you handled the situation. That's not customer service.." to which he interjected "then you can get the hell out of here too, and don't come back". I said that I would tell everyone I possibly could about this situation and that I most definitely will not return to Bob's Downtown Restaurant until he formally apologizes to those guests or is relieved of his position. I don't recommend Bob's Downtown, bad service and disgusting management. (Also, the waitress preempted the manager's poor reaction to the complaint by advising the customers to walk out on their check, offering to pay for their meal and inconvenience. We have been to Bob's before for breakfast, but yesterday we decided to go for lunch. On a weekend when we had eaten out several times, the food stood out in the crowd. It was delicious. The burgers are exceptional, as well as the gumbo. It is crowded on weekends, but you usually run into some very nice people. Staff is attentive, coffee is strong. For a small Mom and Pop place, the cost was a little more than I expected, but overall a very pleasant experience. read more

This place only receives 1 star because I can't give them less! My husband and I decided to try this place out for breakfast....it was awful! I ordered the Shrimp & Gouda Grits, which came out very soupy, undone and hard!!! Because they're called grits...doesn't mean they should taste as if you're chewing rocks!! And the shrimp were uncleaned. I was also provided a fork to eat what I was told was "done" grits. I have been eating grits for over 40+ yrs, and have never tasted grits this bad! My husband ordered Corned Beef Hash, which also had the consistency of soup, with hard uncooked potato cubes and nothing like Corned Beef Hash. When we sent it back to have our meals prepared a bit longer, we were met with the cook who had a horrible attitude and refused to accommodate us in any way. He stated to us (in his own words), "let's just cut this off right here...you can go somewhere else, and have a nice day!" That is not how you treat customers. This was our second trip to Bob's. The first time we came for brunch (and the Bloody Mary's) and the food was okay for some pretty basic bacon and eggs. We went back looking forward to trying some other things on the menu. I ordered the corned beef hash and potatoes and my girl friend got the shrimp and grits. The grits were soupy and the shrimp was a bit less done than we'd have liked. My hash was a style I've never had before. Large bits of potatoes with a lot less corned beef than I expected. So I was dining in today and noticed that there was a young lady in for a job interview. During her interview a lady and man was sitting at the table with her (guessing one was the owner and the other was a manger) and they were asking absurd questions over and over again about if she's ever been arrested and if she was a felon ( this girl had to be no more than 20 and they were obviously making her extremely uncomfortable). I also over heard them tell her that they would rather have family work there but "they guess they could give her a shot as long as she was a good person and never been arrested." During this time a elderly man walked and had to use the restroom and it seemed like an emergency. The lady that was at the table for the interview made the man buy a 3$ drink just so he can use the restroom. This experience has nothing to do with me but if they treat new hires and there employees like that than I can only imagine how they treat there customers. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but nothing special. A butterflied sausage on a run of the mill bun with sauted peppers and onions. I felt like I could have done this at home. I also ordered a cup of gumbo. This was very good. The roux was creamy and it had plenty of flavor. Although it did miss a bit of heat, but that's my personal preference. Overall, I give it two stars. If you are looking for something fast and inexpensive, and you are not too judgemental, then this might be the place for you. I have never had more disappointing service than at this restaurant. When my group of 6 got in, we sat ourselves outside, and we were greeted several minutes later by our waitress. They were busy; the whole downtown area was sue to the conference that was in town. After our drink order was taken, we shocked to see and smell the employees of the restaurant smoking weed out back. We initially laughed it off, but in hindsight we should have left right then, because it took an hour and a half to get our food out to us, and when it did, it was ice cold. My friend ordered a burger that came out on toast, and he had requested onion rings, but they gave him fries and still charged him for the onion rings. We were very irritated, and our waitress explained that they were running out of food and didn't have anyone to go buy it. I didn't want to be rude to her, but I wished she would have said something to us about that before she took our order. I will never ever ever be back. Such a horrible experience.
