I had heard great things from my friends about Boiling Avenue. The concept of individual hot pot was nice, especially during covid times. The menu is preplanned. So you have a set number of mixed hot pot choices. This does make preparing/eating your meal easy. I had the Sichuan spicy. I was surprised to see ramen noodles in my dish. I originally thought it was going to be a shared platter of ingredients, to place into individual boiling soups. However, these are prepared soup dishes that will be heated up in front of you with a nifty heat candle. The food was good, but I was not 100% impressed because my expectation had been to make my own soup with my favorite ingredients for hot pot. My bf and I got lucky and arrived right before they got super busy. We were seated right away and I ordered the sesame tonkatsu and bf got the spicy sour fish. I loved the sesame flavor on mine. It was the perfect bowl of hot pot. It came with lots of udon, about 3-4 pieces of meat, tofu, quail eggs, corn, lobster meatball, and a good amount of veggies. I tried my bfs broth and his was good as well except we both didn't taste any sourness to it nor was it spicy. His came with a good amount of ingredients as well. Compared to other mini hot pot chains, this spots doesn't cook their ingredients ahead of time, which I actually prefer especially for the meat -- that way it doesnt get over cooked. I'm not quite sure how this hot pot spot has so many good reviews because they got me good.... I came here with my sister, cousin, and uncle. We ordered 3 Sichuan pots and a lobster seafood pot. I think my favorite food from here was the french fries and dumplings. I was excited to try the sichuan pot because I love eating spicy, and I usually order the sichuan or spicy pots from other hot pot places. The Sichuan pot here was not spicy at all... and it was bland *sigh pie* we even asked for chili oil on the side to make it spicier, but it didn't do anything. I did try the lobster seafood pot broth and it was better than mines. Service here is nice but spotty, you kind of have to flag down the servers at first to order. Great place to satiate your hot pot cravings! First time I experienced a "personal" size hot pot establishment, and the choices available are so many! The nice thing about the personal sized hotpot is that your group can order different ones and you can have a taste of what they're having...for future reference! I tried the House Special with beef slices, spam, shrimp, clams and many more. All that over vermicelli and a generous amount of soup on a "pot" that they light under to cook the soup. The staff monitor the fire under, and when the soup is cooked, they turn off the fire for you. The staff are also kind enough to offer you extra soup if you need it. And if you did not finish you food and take it home, they even offer to top up your soup! Nice... The place is quite popular, especially during cold nights, so expect a wait time for seating. The staff are so nice and attentive, and they're very accommodating to any special changes to your order-- i.e. you can swap broths if you can't handle spice, and you can add extra stuff or switch out your noodles. I got the House Special and replaced the normal noodles for ramen noodles for an extra dollar. It was FANTASTIC. My mom cannot handle spice and they gave the option to do a mix of the house broth (not spicy, that is what is in the house special) or completely change the broth out for it. And you can't miss out on ordering some milk tea with boba-- comes in a super cute jar! The fried calamari was among the best I've had. Enjoyed the savory hot broth of the Japanese Miso and the plentiful contents within. Each person gets their own bowl that's heated, which was convenient but the bowls seemed a bit too small.. the broth seemed to almost spill over once boiling and it was difficult to dunk the raw meat into the hot broth to cook. It would have been nice for them to put the raw stuff at the bottom rather than the top. Otherwise, the dish was good and I found myself continuing to sip away at the broth. Wish there were more fish cakes since there was only one, but the other ingredients were all there in a good amount. I wish we could customize our food a bit more and they never came back to refill our soup and the fire was really hot. Both our soups were a bit more on the bland side. Which was disappointing. It made the hot pot hard to to enjoy because the fire lasted the entire time... Service was lacking a lot that evening! We had to call our waiter over multiple times before them even taking our order. I feel the staff ignored our table. They even forgot our vermicelli noodles that come with the hotpot I had to remind 2 different waitresses about it. They also didn't bring out the soju pitcher until very late. We were already almost done with our food.... While we saw a waiter taking soju shots with the table next to us.... I almost cancelled the soju pitcher because of that reason. Okay, I came back to try a hot pot. Let me honestly say that yes it was yummy, the broth was tasteful, but is it worth the price you pay? Eh, not really. 1. The bowls are super tiny so I was struggling trying to cook my food, let alone enjoy it because it was taking kinda long to cook... even the extra bowl where you place your cooked good in is hella small. 2. They aren't super generous with the meats, seafood, etc. that's already included in your hot pot, and ordering extra will cost you around $1.50 to $8.00 depending on what you order. I.e. they have lobster for $8.00 ...I'm curious to see how big the lobster is but I rather not spend that extra $8. I rather spend the same amount I paid for my hot pot here for some lobster ramen downtown. I ordered the tomato one, sorry I forgot the name, I replaced the beef for the shrimp (the shrimp is a little cheaper) and they definitely did not take account for that. I was still charged the same amount, ~$15. I am pretty sure I got about 4 pieces of shrimp, too... 4 pieces! Wth... They also have boba which ...ehhh, I suggest adding a little more sugar or milk if you plan on getting their milk tea and don't really like it tasting too tea-y. 2/19 Second time eating here, I'm still disappointed like the first one. First, I threw most of my rice cake again when most of the food in the pot was rice cake and udon. The kitchen AT LEAST needs to unfreeze it before serving to the customers because the small fire of the pot can't cook it till it is soft, and in my perspective, the rice cake was literally just got out from the freezer. Second, when customers come into the restaurant hungrily, they want to eat, but it's hard because we need to wait for servers to take the orders and for the food to be prepared, understandable. When I have my food I have to wait for another 10 minutes for it to boil and the meat to be cooked. Again, the fire of the pot can't cook meat all the way, but there are meat that needs to be cooked throughoutly to eat, for example, PORK. These things need better preparation. read more

I asked for an overview because I had never been to hotpot before. We asked for sauces for our popcorn chicken and never received it, we had to ask 3 different times for sauce The servers seemed bothered anytime we asked for things. For example, I asked for a regular spoon so I could better eat my rice (shouldn't have to explain that) and she responds "I'll check if we have some but I don't think we do" and never came back lol... We dined here two Saturdays ago and my car & another person's got our window smashed and bags taken. This review is solely on the restaurant but i just want to warn everyone who plans to dine here to beware! I've been to boiling Ave a handful of times now and always tell myself to never come back. Here are the reasons... 1. Service - zero to none. They take your order, bring them out and that's it. You get your own water & have to get up to get an employee's attention because they don't seem to see you even with your hand in the air. I usually tip these types of places 10% because why tip more when they're just doing their job? But what really made me upset was that they automatically charge a 20% gratuity for our party of 6. 2. The hotpot your food is served in is tiny. That's awesome that they fill it up and it looks IG worthy but what's the point if you can't get your food to cook and stir things around without the little amount of soup in there to spill. We ordered additional items on the side and they were pointless. We couldn't even get the items the pot came with to cook, let alone cook the additional items. 3. The burner needs to be lit out by an employee. By the time I could get an employee's attention, my pot already burned and most items no longer edible. 4. Food always takes long to come out. I've been here on slows days and it still takes 30+ mins for our hotpot to come out. This night took 45 mins. I get that all businesses are trying to cut back on payroll, but with this type of restaurant, they need attentive staff. Especially if you're going to charge an automatic gratuity. Yeah, hover over the heat with putting the finishing touches of cooking to your soup. Eventually the flame will go out, but if the meal is just too hot , you can have a service smother the flames.
