The wait was pretty short despite there were 7 groups me before mine. Service was good. The servers did their job although it was hard to flag one down when we needed something. Lamb hot soup was delicious. Only thing I was dissatisfied with was that I asked to not include mushrooms in the soup yet they brought my soup with one kind of mushroom in it. I absolutely despise mushrooms so this was a downer. I had to pick each one out myself. Their rice is very good and I love the chia seed lemonade they bring out with the check. I really enjoyed my dinner here. As soon as we came in, we were greeted nicely and were immediately seated. The menu was easy to understand, I even liked how it's designed. This BP is different than the other BPs and I would honestly avoid coming here if possible. First, this one is the "upscale" version of the normal BP so the price is higher ($14.99 Lunch). You get an actual book menu and the menu items are slightly different. Instead of getting the option of rice or vermicelli, you get the option of white rice or brown rice and vermicelli is extra $1.50 or $2 (I forget the cost). Since it was my first time here, I told the server (asian guy) I wanted the tomato delight with vermicelli and he tells me that would be extra because at this location you get the option of white or brown rice. He then tells me vermicelli is already included in the tomato delight pot so if I want vermicelli, it would be extra. Fair. I opted for the brown rice. When my pot comes, there was no vermicelli in my pot so I let another server (asian lady) know and she says that my pot does not come with vermicelli. She brings over the menu to show me the ingredients that should be in my pot and sure enough it says vermicelli. The weird thing is that my friend got the exact same pot and it had vermicelli inside. The lady server then apologizes and brings me the vermicelli that my pot was missing. And I totally get it mistakes happen and I am sure that the person making my pot just forgot to add the vermicelli, but this incident just shows you that the staff is not as knowledgeable as they should be, considering this is the upscale version of BP. The food, however, is good as usual. I would just avoid this location because of the higher price and the inconsistency. read more

I'm a big fan of Asian food and when my wife suggested it, I thought it sounded great but the overall experience was poor, expensive and the food was only OK at best. When you walk in the door there is nothing to say you have to check in at the iPad to side of the door to put yourself on the list, fortunately we saw someone else doing and then ended up explaining it to several people who came in after us. If you are asked if you mind sitting at the bar in the window, I would advise against it, as it means you get NO SERVICE! When we where seated they took our order and after that we where on our own, I had to get up and go to the desk twice to ask for water and they gave us our bill when they brought the peoples next to ask before they had even brought the deserts we had ordered and we had to ask several times before we finally got our deserts. We ordered the curry and the thai meals with a side of bok choy and pork belly, the pork belly was tasteless until you smoother it in one of the sauces and the bok choy was just the raw leafy part which wasn't what I was expecting at all. The Thai was ok but you get a whole baby little octopus and it was very gritty and 1 of my 2 shrimp tasted weird and was a funny texture, so I left it. My wife's curry was very Indian tasting which is fine but not what she expected, she thought it was going to be more of Thai yellow curry style. The desserts were both pretty tasteless, they both come with a ball of what I can only describe as shaved ice with sugar on it and the other one seemed to be shaved ice sugar water with sugar on it. I like unusual deserts but these were both bland. The tea's seem like they are premade, my oolang tea with regular sugar was way to sweet, I wish they let you add your own sugar It came to $70 for the 2 of us and it definitely was not worth the money, nice idea but not well executed and service is poor. read more

I like the concept of individual hot pots and the place is certainly nice and clean. The service is good and attentive unlike most Chinese restaurants. The prices are a bit high but then this is Old Pasadena. However, I wish the food could be better. I grew up eating hot pot, so I know there's definitely room for improvement here. First of all, DO NOT pile all the meat in the pot without separating the pieces. My pot came with quite a bit of meat, but most of it was all stuck together, overcooked, and hard. It probably wouldn't have been an issue as much if they used better-quality meat, but unfortunately it was not the case. The rest of the ingredients were not great, either. There was only one fish cake, one meatball, and one quail egg. I wouldn't have minded the quantity had the quality were reasonable. The intestines were cooked OK but a bit smelly. I've been wanting to try this place for some time. How could I go wrong? I prefer to eat vegetarian, and they have an organic veggie soup, customizable with all kinds of extras, even further customizable with three sauces. Well, I did go wrong, because everything was mediocre at best. The broth for the soup was completely tasteless. My husband's miso soup broth, however, at least had flavor. The strangest part, though, was the veggies. I don't know how they did it, but the veggies were totally flavorless. They looked ok, but they were totally without taste. The udon noodles in the miso soup were almost mushy, and also flavorless. Though the mushiness may have been because this was a take-out order, and they didn't pack the noodles separately. I guess the lesson here is that more isn't always better. I get a very simple udon soup from a traditional Japanese restaurant in Gardena (Kotohira), with just noodles, green onion, and tofu. I've been to about 5-6 of their locations (BP fan!) and I would say this one irritated me the most. first of all, it wasn't very busy when we got there as we managed to be one of the first 4 groups that were in there (we got there right After opening time) so the lack of Service was inexcusable. we ordered: 2 waters, 2 angus beef hot pot, and a few sides. this is the order it came in: the side of bean sprouts (only offered at this location), and the 2 hot pot. no rice no sides and no water. after we flagged down our server, we managed to get our sides and rice. still no water. when we asked the third time, "can we get some water please?" she responds by saying "sure." no apology, no acknowledgment that we already asked three times. just a simple "sure" as if it was the first time we asked her for this "favor." (I really can't stand establishments that can't even do basic 101 of what they're expected to do). the food tastes the same-- I actually enjoyed the serving size of this place which doesn't seem to overcrowd the bowl as much with meat and veggies... but some could also argue that as a con. the prices are more expensive than other locations (maybe about $2 or so) which isn't bad and I really like the location (downtown Pasadena) which makes grabbing some coffee and hanging out afterwards easy read more

We eat here often and always have a great experience. The food tastes good and the portion sizes are reasonable. However, the thing that keeps bringing us back is the service. Justyce is great! She is extremely attentive and always provides a great customer experience. Our order is always taken quickly and we never have to ask for our water to be refilled. At this place you get charged way more than other boiling points. Lunch special is normally 9.99- 10.99 at other branches but this place charges 14.99 and dinner would be more. Plus you get horrible service and rude servers. When I got seated, I looked at the menu and told the server this place is more expensive than other boiling points. She bluntly responded "yeah and we don't give you free drink either" and walked away. Someone else came to take order. I asked if they have house special since that's the first thing in the menu. The server with glasses, short bleached hair said "no we don't have stinky tofu!!" I was like what? That's not what I asked. I don't even know what stinky tofu is. She cut me off while I was talking and raised her voice to angry tone. I was so disgusted by her attitude. While she was talking angry, I stood up and walked out. I read other previous reviews with people who had similar experiences. For the same reason I will never go back. Not even worth my penny with that kind of service. read more

Do not go to this location. The pots are at least $3-4 more expensive than other locations outside of Pasadena. Drive a few miles to the Arcadia location instead. Another thing I disliked was that a waiter walked by our table and abruptly scolded us that we cannot have outside drinks at our table. I asked her, why didn't the guy that called our name and took us to the table say anything about not being allowed to bring drinks inside in the first place? I also didn't see any signs on the door indicating such a rule. It's not uncommon to have drinks in hand while shopping around Old Town Pasadena. I just bought my drink from Starbucks a few minutes prior to arriving at the restaurant. I would have been fine to finish my drink outside before being seated, even if it meant that I would have to wait for the next available table. The waiter "kindly" offered to store my drink in their fridge during our meal. I'm sorry, but would you ever trust to drink your beverage again after a stranger takes it in their possession? Of course not. Next time, why don't you put a sign on your door to clarify such a rule and I will respectfully oblige. Don't give me crap about bringing my drink in there if it's not properly disclosed in the first place. read more
