Yun Turnbow (the supervisor) is absolutely the poster-child for worst management on the planet and if I could give this place zero stars I would. But to contradict myself... Great sushi, Papa is an absolutely wonderful and nice man, so is his son Paul and their partner Luis, they are all such great people and such great employees/chefs. Erin, the waitress, is so sweet and wonderful so always be sure to tip her a little extra for her cute and quirky personality that is sure to put a smile on your face. Plus her serving skills are excellent so try to go in on a day she is serving. :) Liz Gonzalez (the actual manager) is so nice and makes scars of the restaurant better, she obviously takes pride in what she does and is concerned about the face of the restaurant. She tries her best to suit the interest of the consumer and is sympathetic to the mistakes of her employees. She's an amazing person and if she is managing she is sure to make the environment happy, clean and fun. I wish she could own the company because that is they way things are meant to be managed. She is literally the best manager any restaurant would be HONORED to have. So, why one star? Well I cannot lie, the food there is not that great. It is also overpriced. The place is certainly going downhill but I feel like once they get rid of someone (Yun) the place will be MUCH MUCH better, the feel of the place, the mood, the service. I feel like the person mentioned does not care about anyone else's argument, feelings or even the own rules for the place, all the person cares about is what is best for them, selfish, selfish, selfish. Trust me, man has walked on the moon, you can get the exact time and weather in China in 2 seconds, one can alter prices of specials after 7 o'clock. This particular location could use some, well, improvement, for lack of a better word. It disgusts me to think something can looks so nice on the outside and be so horrible on the inside. 1.) Some of the employees act like they are on the set of "Mean Girls," well they are not so they should stop acting like a bunch of high-school bitches. 2.) Get organized. Enough said. 3.) *Note for superior (Yun)* Yelling and disciplining employees if costumers are still in the restaurant and bar, that looks worse than a host/ess (With a medical note) sitting when you walk in, remember? No? Well I do. I was there. I can go on forever about the place, about how it is horrible and how nobody should ever go there. But preference is preference. I'd personally never go back. My word of advice: Go to P.F. Changs and get better food and ambiance for your money. read more

Well, what I wanted to be a nice evening turned out to be extremely disappointing. My friend and I have been to Wok-N-Fire on a few occasions, but last night will probably be the last one. When we arrived at about 6pm we were greeted by the hostess which was a pleasure, she asked us if we wanted to sit in the bar in which she mentioned the 50% off appetizers or the restaurant, so we opted for the bar, I mean why not it is 50% off right?? Well I think that also meant that it was 50% off of the size of the rolls as well. Where it started to go down hill.... Now mind you the bar IS NOT that big with 7 tables and about 10 bar stools along the sushi bar. It took over 15 minutes for the bartender / server to even acknowledge us, not even a glance or a nod or "I'll be right with you"... We place our order for the drinks as well as a couple of appetizers which were made in the kitchen, we received those in a quick amount of time but as for the rest of our order, oooh boy, I ordered some maki rolls and 2 pieces of sushi and my friend ordered curried noodles with scallops. At about 20 minutes after 7, after flagging down the bartender we inquired as to when our food would be ready--- guess what it was coming up shortly, and it did at 7:30 but we had to rush to eat it so that we could be out of there by 7:45. My friend's meal was luke warm, the scallops where soggy and tasteless because it probably was made and sitting in the kitchen window for over 30 plus minutes, while my sushi was being made. Come to find out AFTER the fact, there was a large party that ordered a lot of sushi. If we had known this in the beginning it would have been a better experience, I mean I have been to many sushi restaurants and I know that it takes a while, so knowing that and knowing our time constraints I would have ordered something from the kitchen. Worst place I have ever had the displeasure of eating at. If you have any sort of respect for yourself do not eat here, choose somewhere worth spending your money at, such as P.F. Changs or somewhere of that sort. This is just wanna-be Asian food. This service is horrible and the place as certainly gone downhill since it's opening. Hopefully, someday, they will close this place down and put something there worth going to in it's place. Upon my entrance to the restaurant, there was a strange odor, smelled like vomit. The management is absolutely nonprofessional and the service is horrible. The service in founded on aloofness. It is dirty through out the restaurant such as the sticky floor with the left over ruins of the earlier customers plates all over and the dirty rags they use to clean the tables with. How do I know they were dirty? I could smell how not clean it was, like mold from sitting out and my table smelled like the mixture of odors from last weeks lunch and soy. I had a friend take a peek in the kitchen and it is absolutely disgusting, not to mention the loud Mexican music blasting over the already too loud music in the restaurant, good luck talking to one another. The bathroom stalls had NO toiler paper in them whatsoever. My waitress had a very sarcastic tone of voice when I asked for recommendations. When I asked to speak with management the waitress rolled her eyes and when she brought the manager she was very rude and insisted with fighting with me instead of helping me. When I opened my menu it was DRENCHED in soy sauce, so where the next 2 the waitress tried bringing me. This restaurant is absolutely terrible and disgusting, so in summary do not eat here unless you are interested in the dirty and rude environment. Definitely not somewhere I would be interested in taking my family to that's for sure, I have concern for their health. read more

My husband and I went here for lunch. I was looking forward to some excellent spicy asian cuisine. There were five tables that were eating and two waiter/waitress. It took the waiter about 10-15 minutes before he came over to take our order. We were literally scoping out the restaurant trying to find him. I got szechuan steak for $9.50 (the lunch portion). I was not impressed. It was as if they got a stir fry vegetable medley and beef from Jewel and then threw in some grocery store sauce. Plus it wasn't spicy at all. Sushi is one of my new obsessions and Wok n fire is right there with the best. Ive been downtown and those places are far more expensive that "the wok". You get what you pay for with sushi there are cheaper places around but the quality and service are lacking. This place has great service and their food, sushi or not, is AMAZING! My favorite roll is either the Pappa's Choice (spicy tuna w/ mango) or the Winter dragon if I am really hungry. I've been there many times and always have had great service and great food i dont know what these other reviews are talking about. My Wife and I recently used our groupon for Wok' Fire. We both love sushi very much and were excited try try here. I have to say the place has a nice atmosphere and decor, I just wished that detail carried through to its food. The sushi, by far, is over-priced at first, however I thought the rolls would be large...they werent. In fact the rolls were very tiny. Fortunately we split a noodle dish as well. That was the best thing we had, very fresh and tasty. Overall I have to say I was disjointed in the Sushi..in its size taste and price. Been here times, never leaves in disappointment. Good food, interesting interior designs. Staffs are friendly. I usually come here just for their Pho soup. We normally go to Ramen Misoya or Chicago Ramen, both great options with vegan and "halal" options…read more I saw this on some Chicago Halal Foodies reel and decided want in. I got take out and everything was well packaged and remained hot after it got to it's final destination about 1h away. My partner is vegan and enjoyed the vegan option. It wasn't anything fancy however most places slap vegan after taking things out and you pay the same price. This place more or less built the ramen with vegans in mind and so the ebb and flow of the ingredients worked out to be a delicious ramen dish. I had the spicy halal ramen, it was also delicious. We also got two halal chicken ramens which, you guessed it, was delicious. The broth wasn't as thick as ramen misoya or as light as chicago ramen. It was in between but actually really good and not as salty. We also got the spring rolls, sesame balls, and agedashu tofu which tasted well. The spring rolls and tofu weren't as crispy but it was a long trip so not on them. I could've sped, but I was getting great mileage. They still tasted great. Now this place also has Chinese dishes which makes it a great option when in the mood for various Asian cuisine and going to one shop. I forget the name of another joint in Chicago on the west side that does the same but it has all the things and it's great but that's an even further. Regardless everything we had was enjoyable and the halal chicken tasted significantly better than Ramen Misoya. It was seasoned very well. At Ramen Misoya, it's not "zabiha" but it's considered halal. I'll try to explain it as best and fast as I can. In Islam halal/haram means permissible/impermissible. Halal in terms of food mainly applies to fauna (i.e. animals, fish, insects, etc). For example corn, pineapple, bread, strawberries are exempt and are thus always halal. Zabiha is the term which means the animal was sacrificed, while being thankful for it, and a process was followed to ensure minimal pain and suffering and it was cleaned, prepped, etc properly. Basically to be thankful for what you have since you're benefiting from something living / cognizant and not just being flippant because it's livestock. Now for some animals in order for them to be edible, it has to be permissible (i.e. halal), as such it has to be Zabiha. However there are schools of thought where so long as the food you are about to receive and or consume isn't haram (i.e. pork) and it was given with pure intention, you can say "Bismillah" and enjoy your dish. Zabiha and halal are often conflated but I hope this explains why.
