So this was our first Korean Fried Chicken experience and we will definitely have to add it our culinary watch list. We saw a few when we were in NYC, but were unable to eat at one so it was awesome to find them here as well. Needless to say it was pretty good. Onion Rings: Something here was off and I can't put my finger on it. They were well fried, but the batter was again off and I'm not sure why. Oddly they tasted better cold later in the evening. It was the only miss of the meal and Ill give them another try. Who knows it could have been me or just an anomaly. Crispy Chicken Sliders: So good. the chicken was moist and crunchy, the slaw and other elements hit it off with everything else. I could have eaten all 3 myself. The bun withstood the entire eating process without falling apart. Sesame Ginger Salad: The greens were fresh, lots of red onion, and the dressing was good (perhaps a bit over dressed). Ill be honest, I'm not crazy about fried salmon, but it was fresh and properly cooked. Spicy Fried Chicken Strips: Well fried and moist. The batter is fantastic. Just the right amount of heat, and the pickled daikon was perfect to tame the fire (tasted very similar to the pickles you get on a Ban Mi). We kept seeing things being served on other tables that looked really good and kept repeating "lets order that next time" Good selection of draft beer that was served in a properly chilled glass. The final stop on my trip home and mom once again picked up the tab (best mom ever). If I were to have paid, I would not have been happy with the $100 tab before tip. Granted, we did get a good amount of food, but it was nothing special. They're known for their wings, but they didn't knock my socks off. A pitcher of beer was $22. The Caesar and ginger salads were nothing special. Seasoned fries were good, but not worth $7. Korean tacos were my favorite of everything I tried. All of that food was a good amount for 4 people. I've been meaning to write this review. I'm so happy we happened to park right in front and we were hangry. My daughters first time at s Bonchon. I had been to a diff store. I didn't realize stores have a few diff items. Nice.. My son ordered the fried rice with chicken. He loved it. We ordered split wings spicy and bbq. The spicy were perfect for my husband but almost too spicy for me. I ate 1 - the bbq were delicious. The crispy outer layer was crunchy and the meat was tender. The kimchi slaw was tasty and little limp but kimchi can be like that.. Ordered fries too which was a decent size. But where we found the most amazing bites in our mouth was the salmon avocado roll. It was fabulous. A little heavy with sauces so definitely shareable unless your stomach can handing that. Service was quick and the food was hot. Super yummy not so healthy. read more

Solid place to get Korean fried chicken. I got the small combo and split the rice cakes with my friend, with half and half to get a taste for both of the flavors on the chicken. Also got a beer to split with my homie cuz you gotta get the full experience. The first few bites were amazing... pretty flavorful and the pieces were nice and juicy. I left the restaurant FULL, which is a rare thing for me eating out these days. The only thing I have to say is that this place is probably a lot better of just as a snack to split with friends. I got the small combo, and kind of got tired of eating too much chicken, which don't get me wrong was good but just better off as a late night snack instead. My friends and I got the 24-piece boneless wings half&half with soy sauce garlic and sweet crunch sauce. The soy sauce garlic sauce is good but the sweet crunch was very weird-tasting and wasn't even that sweet. The sauce was very light too, this making the chicken kind of tasteless and dry. In addition, the boneless chicken had almost no chicken; it was mostly breading, and sometimes there was absolutely no chicken (photos attached of the inside to show the lack of chicken!). Another disappointment was the lack of juiciness to the pickled radishes, which made it very weirdly dry. If you're wanna order boneless chickens it'd be better to just get McNuggets. First of all this is my guilty pleasure. I've eaten a lot of Bonchon around the country, LA, Nyc and multiple locations around the bay. This one is still very good but I gotta say that I have a few suggestions. They really need to provide wet naps like they do in the San Mateo spot. Honestly. They're paying more for water bills than a wet nap. Otherwise food and drink are excellent as always. If you've been to bonchon in any location, great consistency of double fried chicken. And this doesn't disappoint. Btw while we are at it, I had to teach the wait staff how to properly drink 'milkis' shots. They need proper non shot glass glassware. I have been waiting for AGES for this location to open! Like it's Sunnyvale location, this Bonchon has very little seating. But oh man. I am not a person who likes fried chicken or wings. But Bonchon's spicy chicken is nothing short of amazing. We also tried their bulgolgi, which was good but nothing to write home about with all the great Korean places so close in Santa Clara, and their garlic soy sauce chicken which was good but nothing too outstanding flavor wise. They also had a really good selection of beer. I was pleasantly surprised, but not as pleasantly surprised as when we got their small lychee soju. Small, it was not. It was soju and lychee flavored calpico, which basically was alcoholic calpico so I was definitely very happy and we didn't end up finishing the drink (much to my shame). I went in with a desire for chicken and shrimp. I ordered the 5 garlic drumsticks, and popcorn shrimp to go. The crew was very friendly and I didn't have to wait too long for my order. It is a little expensive, but I've always believed that you get what you pay for.I got home and the chicken is awesome. It is moist and delicious. The problem was with the popcorn shrimp. I found that about half the shrimp had not been deveined, meaning the gritty poop sack was still intact in the shrimp. I called Bonchon and the person said that the removal of the poop sack was "Not their responsibility." Who's is it then? I'm not making this up. I can buy clean frozen shrimp for under $12. read more

I enjoy eating here while watching the NBA playoffs with my friends. There are TVs for you to watch while you eat. I really like the food here. My friends and I usually split the family meal. In the family meal, we order: soy or garlic flavored combo, fried rice, and french fries. The chicken is amazing as it is big, juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The fried rice is also super good. Even though there aren't many ingredients, it is super tasty. Their French fries are also above average as they are always super hot and crispy. Dip them in ketchup and it's perfect. I would give it 5 stars, but there is a bit of a weird smell in the restaurant. The food is amazing though! read more

My most recent to go order only really had a small drizzle of soy garlic sauce on the strips and the pieces of chicken themselves were really dry/overcooked. Good casual place to hang out with a few friends and watch some sports. I wasn't in the mood for getting messy with actual wings, so we ordered their chicken strips instead as well as a beef bibimbap. The bibimbap: For an Americanized bibimbap, it was actually pretty tasty. I say Americanized because it had lettuce, quinoa, and scrambled eggs (as opposed to a raw egg cracked on top), which are not usually found in traditional bibimbap. They also gave us the bibimbap sauce in a packet instead of the usual bottle, which was interesting. Either way, the taste was there and I would probably get it again. The chicken strips: I imagined something more breaded and crispy like you would get at a fast food restaurant but with Korean spices/flavors/sauces, but it was more lightly fried and more similar to nuggets. They were ok but pretty dry. Warning: the spicy ones are actually really spicy. Probably the spiciest thing I've eaten in a long time! If you're just looking for a place to hang and walking along Castro, Bonchon is a decent option, but I wouldn't necessarily make plans to go there. read more

We've been coming to this location for years. Admittedly, it's been a while, and this time, my usual order was different. Normally, I get half and half strips. It used to come with 10 or 12 large white meat pieces, but this time, it was maybe 16-18 much smaller pieces. Each one was more much battered but not as crisp, definitely inferior. Also, the boxes were standard brown takeout boxes with a makeshift divider rather than the trademark Bonchon boxes with holes in it. I will start off that this is second time I have been to this restaurant. Different staff but they were great. They worked well together and I got great service. The ambiance is simple. Nothing fancy. But clean and nice. They could use more comfortable seats. The pork pot stickers are the best love them! Now the tacos I have mixed emotions. The sauce, tortillas and veggies were spot on delicious. I was a little disappointed because there was so little bulgogi in the taco. Completely lost that flavorful component. Where I have liked the food up to this point, I won't order the tacos again. I can make tacos with veggies at home. I ordered bulgogi tacos I expect to have some meat in it. The core offering of soy garlic strips, even in a diminished form, is still high-tier chicken, and the menu holds other treasures. Basically - anything that comes fried, they probably do pretty well. My personal recommendation would be the salad with fried tofu, or their very, very good french fries. I used to go to Sunnyvale for my drumstick craving but I've started going to mountain view ever since they opened shop on Castro st. Pros : * The wings. The strips and the drumsticks. Served with soy ginger and spicy. Spice level is good, if you can't handle spice, I'd stay away from this. * They have beers on tap. Good option for summer. * Huge portion size. Shareable ! Cons : * Service is kinda meh. Takes time to get the servers attention. * Tables are sticky sometimes (1/4) but they were good enough to give it a wipe down once told. Parking : Street parking available but I'd suggest parking in one fo the free parking spots around Castro. The food : I have tried quite a few things on the menu so far. My favorite is still spicy drumsticks with a side of slaw or radish. This time I tried their strips and they were larger than the ones at McDs. Fried rice had large portion size. So did Bibimbop. They were able to customize the egg to fried ( Sunnyside up ) upon request. Korean Sliders were ok. They're just slider slaw and cucumber on a bun. No sauce added. To start, I came here a couple of months ago, in late April, so it's been a bit since I went. Service was so-so. At the time (I don't know if they're still doing this), they were sanitizing everyone's credit cards with rubbing alcohol. This means that if you've written anything on your cards (signed it in Sharpie, ink, etc.), it will smear. I get that it's a measure to be safe and sanitized, but it seemed a little extreme to me. However, the food was pretty good. We did ask for recommendations on what to order (it was our first time here), and the guy taking our order was pretty helpful. We ended up ordering a special combo with half & half soy garlic and spicy signature fried chicken. There was a third flavor available, but we went by the employee's recommendations, and they were excellent. The chicken was super crispy on the outside - the glaze had sort of hardened into a deliciously crunchy shell. My mouth is watering just thinking of it! However, the spicy chicken was actually really spicy. Beware of that! I still enjoyed it though, even through the pain. The chicken itself wasn't super dry, which is always my fear. We also tried the Bibimbap with fried tofu and the Fried Rice. Pretty standard options - I would order these if you're trying to balance out all the meat intake, like we were! The only thing that went wrong with our order is that we were told we'd be able to get two different options for the complimentary sides - one each of the pickled radish and coleslaw. Glad Bon Chon is out of the "fastfood-ish" niche of dining. Actually feels like a bar/resto this time. Service was very good, I have to thank the asian guy and latina girl(no nametags unfortunately) for awesome service, I hope this doesnt go unnoticed. Food 4.5/5: as good as expected from the guys who first brought the Glazed Korean Chicken to the market, portions, taste and quality are all well above average, my only small complaint now is that I wish their boneless version was as good as the regular chicken, like their competitors have figured out. Service 5/5: out of the fastfood but here comes the wait. Make sure you arent too hungry coming in, because the wait is significant even for dining in, and people have noticed, seeing as there is a sign forbidding people who have thought of the clever way to bypass the wait by ordering to go and switching to dine in when you arrive. Fortunately they werent too busy, so the asian guy let me do that this visit. Staff was attentive too, with refilling water and even handing me napkins when he noticed I was eating using my hands. Like I said, good service, hope management notices this. Value 3/5: Pretty pricey for korean chicken, and the lack of value meals(side + portions for just 1 person) are a missed opportunity here in the US implementation, as I was used to having that back in the Philippines where Bon Chon has embraced its fast food identity. read more

Unlike the other Bonchon locations they've opened, they all have not been consistent in their quality and flavor. It's perfect that I work on Castro so it's super convenient for me to dine here. Pretty solid korean fried chicken chain. I've actually never had it before so I was surprised by the mix of both spicy/savory chicken wings. The spicy sauce was a little spicy for my taste, but they were able to get a really nice hard shell of fried batter on all of the chicken. It seems like most of the other menu items other than the chicken are a bit lacking, so I'd just stick with the various chicken offerings if you are headed in. Parking can be rough around this stretch of the castro, but keep looking and try the side streets! read more

Go with the chicken wings here, they are delicious! The original and spicy sauces are both good, with the spicy one not being extremely hot. The best part is that the chicken is not thickly deep fried like other restaurants, so it ends up being lighter and crispier. This is the best fried chicken I've had! I ordered a medium combo of drumsticks and wings both spicy and garlic. The spicy chicken are SO spicy, but yet so yummy!
