We've gotten takeout twice now and even though I think they're kind of pricey and I wish they had more flavors, I cannot deny that the wings are delicious! Lightly battered and fried then coated with your choice of sauce-spicy (super spicy!), soy garlic (our favorite) and sweet crunch (meh). I really wish we could have dined in to try this place because I don't always like the way French fries travel, however that was not the case here! I'm not sure if it's because they pack them in an open ended bag so they don't steam during the ride home but they aren't soggy by the time you get there. Tip-seasoned fries are the way to go. Delicious! There are several other items to try if wings aren't your thing-fried rice, pot stickers, katsu chicken and I'm highly interested in trying their version of pork buns. So fire I've been to so many different locations and this by far hands-down as the best bonchon there is I know it's Stockton but dang it's FIRE LOVE THIS PLACE every time I'm in town can go without. I enjoy some of the food at bonchon, their chicken is good and I like their daikon, but wow the spicy chicken bibimbap was awful. They serve it in a hot clay pot so it's sizzling and smoking when it hits the table, which was exciting to see, but after stirring up everything and tasting it, all I could taste was burnt rice, no other flavors come through, just burnt bland rice. I took two bites and pushed it off to the side. Restaurant smells like a bathroom, but their actual bathroom smells better than the dining room which was funny. Service could have been done by a robot, just took our orders and brought it out without a single word being spoken. Didn't even warn me that the clay bowl was hot. The one negative thing I have is that their prices are a little over the top for fried chicken and I've had chicken of the same quality or better at other restaurants at a lesser price. If you read a lot of my reviews then you know I'm a fried chicken connoisseur. I absolutely enjoyed Bon Chon fried chicken. The garlic chicken doesn't have a strong flavor and the spicy is a perfect amount of spice and not too much sauce. I love the crunch on this chicken it was absolutely perfect! This is a signature dish and they do it well! I also ordered the BIMibop Bulgogi and the meat was tender and juicy. The pot that it comes in is very hot with kept all the ingredients very warm. It was good size portion so I was able to take half home and eat the rest later. The other item we had was the Gobi plate with rice this was just as I remember eating it in South Korea. I have a Korean Rasberry Wine. Now if you have not had Korean wine this is gonna seem very thick and various but not very sweet. It is served in little shot glasses rather than wine glasses. The meals come out hot and fast which makes it perfect for lunch dinner or any time. However they lose a star for me because they don't have a wine menu or drink menu so I had to walk up to the bar to try to figure out what drinks they offered. If you're not the day of the Korean drinks then you'll have to default to the American beers that they have. Also, they need prices on the drinks after getting the bill and seeing that the raspberry wine was $11.95 was unexpected. The bathrooms are just one step up from a gas station but I didn't come here to use the bathroom . Went here for lunch with family and seated us immediately. And music is definitely not too loud like some of the hip restaurants these days. Seems like there's been a change in ownership but no complaints here. Staff were very friendly and helped explain to us the menu. My original review of this Bonchon location was over 2 yrs ago when they took an additional $2 from my credit card transaction w/out my authorization for a To-Go order! Recently return to this location and strikes again! (2 strikes this time!) No! This is not the same strikes as in Bowling (those are good strikes!) Ordered another To-Go of the Small Combo (6 wings + 3 drums): STRIKE 1 - Usually this comes with a complimentary side dish of pickled radish or coleslaw. No one mentioned anything to me about the side dish but I had to asked for it. Even after asked for it, they still did not give until I asked again after receiving my food. STRIKE 2 - Once again the Small Combo = 6 wings + 3 drums. As I was enjoying my To-Go on my road trip out, came to realized CRAP there are only 8 pieces, not 9! Missing 1 wing! SMH... Fellow customers, please be sure to double-check everything before leaving this location if you order To-Go! This makes a total of 3 Strikes (OUT) for me from this location. The tteokboki here was awful. I've had the tteokboki at other locations and it was much better than this. This one had the consistency of chunky refried beans and lacked any sort of flavor. I called to inform them that it tasted like it had gone bad which didn't really lead to anything besides them saying this was their "recipe". This Bonchon location left a lot to be desired. We had the bulgogi sliders, pork buns, wings, and ddukbokki. The wings were pretty spot on with the other places. The sliders were rather dry compared to other locations. The ddukbokki was a hot mess. It was super soupy and lacked flavor all together. Arrive at 6:03pm and call to make sure the food is ready before I go in; told to wait another five minutes. I walk in at 6:10pm and the food isn't ready. Because I hadn't paid since it was a phone order, the food hasn't started being made yet. AT NO POINT WHEN I CALLED (two tines at this point) DID ANYONE SAY I HAD TO PAY BEFORE THE FOOD WAS MADE. I make plans based around these things and the staff having a lapse of common sense cuts into those plans. No apology from the staff either. If you're interested in coming here, look up how to make Korean Chicken at home in stead. Waste of logistics, staff is incompetent and don't know how to communicate vital points to customers. After going to different locations, wanted to see how this one compared to the other locations. The good thing is that it's located in a plaza which had plenty of parking. The restaurant was a decent size and service was quick. It had plenty of seating and a bar with a lot of alcoholic options. We were promptly seated for lunch and our waitress took our order. We got the wings, fries and some rice. Surprisingly, the wings came out quick followed by the fries and rice. The wings were good but small. The fries were crunchy and it came with a side of ketchup. This place represents Korean food in a way that's easy for an Americanized and picky person like myself to enjoy. I love the variety and they have the crunchiest chicken but there are a few things you should know ahead of time. 1) Spicy means Spicy. I'm have a really good spice tolerance to the point where ghost pepper hot sauce is palatable to me and even I get a little sweaty with the level of spice in their chicken but the flavor is worth it 2) it's pricey and if you want to try everything (and you should) expect a bill of about $50-$60 and 3) the portions are meant to be shared so I recommend doing this with a group to justify the price. For me it was probably 2 or 3 stars, firstly the first thing that I noticed when I went into the restaurant is the smell, it's not the smell of kimchi or any food, it smelled like pee. Lost my appetite, I still ordered. I got the kimchi bacon fried rice was ready good, my only complaint would be that there is hardly any kimchi in there, I had to order a side of kimchi, the pickled daikon was great. The spicy chicken bibimbap was no good. It's not crispy rice just burnt rice, and no flavor at all, the only thing that was good was the egg. Recently discovered this place with some co workers and I swear I've been back almost every other week with my family. I've showed this place to so many people and they also love it now! The wings of course are the best especially the spicy ones but they have such a good variety on their menu. The japche and the beef bulgogi bowl are my favorites as well as the onion rings and potstickers! The service is always top tier for sure , they constantly make sure you're comfortable and enjoying the food which is lovely to see such hospitality in Stockton! They also have a full bar and lots of TVs so bring your family and friends and try something new, instead of bww or wingstop! it's the best you'll see why! Can't wait to go back again!
