Cute restaurant and great service. We had the pretzel bites for the appetizer. Drinks were good. Had the pomegranate Bourbon cocktail. We had the chicken sandwich, chicken salad, and a burger all of them were great. Finished our meal with a shake and hot fudge sundae. Had to roll out of here we were so stuffed. The food was great, atmosphere is an A, we took our son and 4 month old daughter with us to enjoy some dinner with friends, the staff was friendly and very speedy with all of our requests. I would recommend the Truffle fries as a starter and can say without a doubt the burgers along with the pretzel bites are top tier as well. Lastly, we forgot a couple of our sons sippy cups, the manger went above and beyond to locate them! Food was above average and our server was great. The burger was seasoned nicely and had a wonderful char on it, the fries were a little oily and honestly I'm just not a fan of adding truffle oil to anything but the wife insisted on them and she loved them. Our server was busy but still prompt and friendly, she also was able to guide us through some choices and had good knowledge of the menu and drink options. However the manager (I believe from the way she was dressed) Michelle had the worst attitude of any manager I've ever encountered. She verbally berated staff within earshot of our table and to be quite frank her overall attitude and vibe was off putting to say the least. I don't come out to eat to be corrected - she came off arrogant and pompous - seriously this is a burger joint not a Michelin star restaurant. Best burgers in the Lynchburg area. I'm not sure what they do to them other than buy really high quality, local, grass fed beef, but it makes a difference. The burgers are fantastic. They have some very creative, varied options. It's not just standard burger fare. I recently tried their ghost pepper mustard burger. It was so delicious. The service has always been quick and very courteous in my experience. This place has quickly become one of my wife and I's favorite date spots. read more

Went last weekend and there was a long wait (totally understandable for a Friday night). The host said she could then seat myself and a friend after 20 minutes so we went to sit down at a tall table on the bar side to find it was missing a chair. Asked the waitress about it and she said she would "see what happens". I had no problem waiting a couple minutes to find a spare chair or for one to open up. I didn't get a chair until after my food had arrived 40 minutes later. On top of this issue my food came out cold (which was a big disappoint as we came out to bootleggers craving it specifically). Spoke to who I presume was the manager afterward to let him know what happened. He informed me that "we'll do our best to make sure this doesn't happen next time you come in". You'll make sure I have a place to sit and hot food to eat? Wow, I had no idea that wasn't the minimum standard, I am soo looking forward to coming back. (I won't be) To be clear I received no apology from the waitress or manager, and I was given no compensation for this meal or any future meal. Bootleggers, I really liked you the first time I dropped by but this terrible service has ensured I won't be coming back ever again and I will most definitely mention this experience to every person who brings up bootleggers. read more

Bootleggers is your standard downtown eatery. Fantastic food and drink, and stellar service. Everything is a bit pricy, but that's standard for the downtown Lynchburg restaurants that consider themselves high end. I've eaten here a handful of times, and really don't have a negative experience to speak of. Most recently, the beer I ordered finally came out with the food I ordered, so about 35-40 minutes. Wasn't a huge fan of that, but I'll cop that to the place being incredibly busy. read more

There was a brief wait (10 minutes) upon being received by the hostess, managed pretty well with a convenient text feature which notified me when my table was ready. I waited for the wait staff more than 10 minutes after being seated; instead of waiting longer, I went to the hostess booth to let them know I hadn't seen any wait staff. A couple minutes passed and my waitress came over to take my order, she was courteous and polite. It took a bit, about 5 minutes, to receive the beer I'd ordered, but the food came much quicker than expected, a welcome, pleasant surprise. The burger was tasty, but slightly overcooked with hardly any pink despite having been ordered medium rare. The waitress hadn't notified me there would be a $4 charge to order sweet potato fries as my side, she had just asked which side I would like, so that was an unwelcome surprise when I received my check. I think the food is worth a return, the staff maybe not so much. Hoping they train their staff a bit better. Until then, I'll be going to the Water Dog, which has better food, staff attentiveness, and atmosphere. read more

Perfect location! The view is beautiful. The food was flavored really well and was presented well. Our waitress Hailey really "put some love" into the adult milkshake and all of the service she provided to our table. I would return to this booshie spot. Underwhelming. Perhaps they need to work out service kinks. Upon arriving we were told there was a wait. No problem but there were two large bar tables open, we were told we couldn't sit there. Then the waitress said we could. So we did, only to get kicked off by the hostess. No one ever filled these bar tables the entire time we were there. They stayed empty, while people sat on the benches and stood waiting. Burger good. Fries do not accompany burger. Drinks overpriced. Lighting was TOO BRIGHT. Let me first say, my rating of 5 stars is a bit tainted by this restaurant being in Lynchburg. Lynchburg desperately needed a quality restaurant. I have always felt Lynchburg's food scene is pretty struggling. There are a few restaurants with promise, but still lack the quality of food you can find in cities like Asheville, Nashville, New York etc. IMO, Bootleggers is a killer addition, and I would say could be the start of the food scene here. The best burger in town by far. * Fries (must get with truffle oil!!) incredible. Perfect. * Bourbon. Great selection, and great bourbon. We got the flight. I do wish the presentation was better however. The bourbon is a Bootlegger staple, and should be shown off. Maybe a fancy platter with the option of rocks? Descriptions/labels for the ones chosen etc. A simple change to this could make people leave saying "wow.. What an experience. What a memory." It's the simple things. And presentation goes for everything. Not just the bourbon. Every item should impress. * Amazing staff!! Great service. It's been about 10 years since I've lived here but I'm back every year or so, and I'm glad to see more spots like this popping up in Lynchburg! Great ambiance, overall menu looked great, and a nice selection of whiskey. We had the BLTC sandwich, truffle parmesan fries, and the Bootleggers wings. Loved the goat cheese on the BLTC, the fries were fried perfect and not overly "truffley", loved their BBQ sauce on the wings (had a little ginger twist), and most importantly the house made ranch was on point! We didn't have much to drink, I just had an Eagle Rare and called it a night. Excited to come back and try some of their cocktails. read more

First time here. Party of one. The view is amazing, the atmosphere was cool, the Strawberry Lynchburg Lemonade was extremely yummy, but the food was just ok. As other reviews stated, the French Fries were cold, the burger was wayyyyy overcooked and the dipping sauce for the onion rings is the only thing that saved them. Service was ok. I think I annoyed my waitress because I moved from outside (mosquitos were bad) to the bar (facing the beer nozels) to a table. Seems like a popular local watering hole. We went here to celebrate niece's graduation. Three of us were visiting from NY and NJ so being all together was one thing that was important. When we were seated they said they had 2 tables near eachother. As we were taken to a 4 seater and a 6 sester, we noticed there were three 4 seater that could have been put together so we all could have been together. When we asked they refused! I later discussed our displeasure with general manager Mike and he was pleasant but claims this will not change. Sadly our party was separated and at the end check was enforced with party of 8 or more, 18% gratuity. Our server was pleasant through a difficult situation but she wasn't at a caliber of fantastic. Some of our party felt she knew she would get 18% and she did not provide to proper standard. Needless to say the hospitality here is not perfect! In discussion with manager I requested the 18% be removed, it took some explaining but he accommodated request. I had good food and needed an alcoholic beverage. I had an old fashion and I give highest compliments to the mixologist it was VERY good! Tater tots are worth the add! My fried cod sandwich was good but batter was not fried through. When I told manager his food was very good in our discussion I explained only issue was batter had not fried fully he immediately credited my check. Fantastic choice for delicious burgers! Their tots are among the best I've ever had and the fries are hand cut. To our surprise the ranch dressing was homemade! They even have gluten free burger buns available. The adult milkshakes were also fantastic - bourbon caramel was delicious and not too sweet. Inside is a casual industrial vibe. There was a serious wait for this place so we had to know why! We tried going for dinner and the hostess said there was an hour and half wait so we decided to wait and go for lunch the next day. There was still a wait to be seated but we got a couple seats and the bar and waited it out there. The weather was perfect that day, they had outdoor seating and outdoor bar seating. Pretty cool place on a nice day. We ended up getting a table outside right next to the walkway and the water, great view. We got an order of the wings and bunless burgers and fries. The burgers came on a salad. I have no complaints about the food. There wasn't a ton of places to eat in the area especially like this place, so understandably this place was crowded. If/when i'm back in Lynchburg I will be back to Bootleggers. read more

I got the Numero Uno burger and they gave a load of beef which is expected by the price. High quality, crispy, and you can tell they season the burger really well by how it tastes. I disliked how they don't automatically come with sides so I really think they should include combos. I just felt compelled not to get fries because it didn't come with it in the first place. Took a while to get our food but that was also expected because it was busy. The restaurant itself was beautiful, interior design was on point, patio deck was opened and it was such a nice day. Not the best first experience. We went to try out a few of their apps and grab a milkshake and I'm really glad we didn't go for dinner. Our server took nearly 15 minutes to get to us, then when she did and we asked for water we sat another 10 minutes with no water. In fact, we didn't get water until we received our milk shakes. The milk shakes were small and underwhelming, especially for the price. I sent my first one back because it was literally milk in a glass. The second one was slightly better, but not worth it. The fries were also underwhelming, expensive, and came with a tasty sauce of which there was not nearly enough. Would've asked the server for more but of course sightings were few and far between. All in all, not the best vibes, overpriced, and a lot to be improved upon. If you're looking for similar fare and better service check out Water Dog. read more

Hubs ordered the "Run for the Border" Burger because he loves spice with his burger and said it was phenomenal., one of the best he's had. I got the cod sandwich and it was huge and delicious. I'm not a coleslaw or tartar sauce fan but wanted something. I would recommend the spicy ranch that came with my husband's onion rings. That was a yummy one. The Parmesan garlic fries were delicious, I wish they were crispy instead of soft. The four containers of ketchup were unnecessary. I preferred the garlic aioli which I had to ask for separately. The Good: Food is fantastic. Had the Spicy Cubano Burger and a Sundae and both were great. The atmosphere is cool. Whoever did the photography for the murals did a great job and love the Franklin County theme. It's maybe a little brighter and sunnier than I'm used to from a bourbon bar but that's not in anyway a knock. The outdoor seating will be really awesome in the summer time. The service was very good. Like to see: The whiskey selection is not bad. There are definitely some items that you don't see anywhere else in town but it would be nice if they had a larger library to select from. The tasting flights could use some work maybe. It would just be nice if there were more of them and if instead of shots brought out individually if they had maybe glencairn glasses or rocks glasses and some way of differentiating which one was brought out to you (a card that goes with it or a cup holder with the name of each whiskey). All these are nitpicky whiskey snob things though. Ecstatic to have a bourbon bar in Lynchburg finally and the average person visiting is going to have an awesome experience. read more

I travel a lot for business and hate the idea of eating at a chain restaurant or some ordinary place. Today I left Little Rock, AR at 6AM flew to Chicago then to DC. I then drove to Richmond for a meeting and then on to Lynchbug for meeting tomorrow. The last thing I wanted this evening was an ordinary restaurant and meal. Bootleggers fit the the bill perfectly. The atmosphere is nice, clean and modern withing an old building. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The place is a little hard to find if you are not from this area, but it is well worth the search. The entrance is on a relatively new looking promenaded overlooking the river and not the normal entrance. It is not on a main street. The menu is limited, but that is just fine. What I really liked and wish that other restaurants would is that the will serve a burger without the bun on a bed of salad greens. This is the first time I have had a burger this way and it was great. Who really needs all that bread? The beer and bourbon selection looked good, but I had a very good hard cider. If I am back in the area I will be back. read more
