I love the sushi here. Specifically the fried ones. The soup is absolutely amazing too. The people are very nice here too. If you eat there it is so pretty to sit right by the water the ambiance is beautiful. I eat here all the time!

Great menu, excellent service and reasonable prices. No matter how busy they are, they take care of you in a timely manner. Most booths have an excellent view of North Lake. Always good for a quick bite or a large group with different tastes. I'd hate for them to get so busy that it's hard to get a table, but they deserve the recognition for doing so well.

Hidden gem in the oasis of Helendale. For a small town in the desert, this restaurant offers a really good fusion of Japanese and Korean staple dishes. From ramen to bento boxes to Korean wings and tofu soup, you have a really good variety of entrees and side dishes to satisfy your Japanese and Korean cravings. I ordered shrimp and vegetable tempura, gyoza, and bibimbap. They did not disappoint. Crispy and tasty tempura and gyozas and the bibimbap was fresh! Really generous portions! The view of the lake is a plus. It's so relaxing and a truly a sight for sore eyes.

The seafood boil bag is always delicious. The Cajun sauce is packed with flavor, the fried calamari is crispy and even better dipped in the tartar sauce, and the noodles are seriously underrated, they're so good! The food has consistently kept me coming back, but I do think the customer service could be a little more welcoming at times. A little friendliness goes a long way, and it would also be nice if personal conversations between staff were kept away from the dining area since customers can hear everything. That said, I stopped by tonight about 30 minutes before closing (I felt guilty, sorry y'all ), and Emilio took care of us. I'd never seen him there before, but he was friendly, welcoming, and checked on us throughout our meal even though he was already busy with the closing routine. We weren't trying to be high maintenance--we were just hungry and excited to eat--but he still made us feel taken care of without overdoing it. Great service like that stands out, especially when it's close to closing time. Hopefully some of his coworkers can learn a thing or two from his approach because it really makes a difference in the overall experience. The food was excellent as always, and tonight's customer service made the experience even better. I'll definitely be back... probably next week. Thanks, y'all!

The service was great and the waiter was super attentive, but unfortunately, the food had absolutely no flavor. I ordered the all in one mild, and there was barely any sauce. The shrimp and crawfish tasted like they were literally boiled in water and thrown into the bag without any seasoning or sauce. I also ordered eggs, which were $3 each, and they were grey. I didn't eat them. Overall, I was really disappointed with the meal. I didn't feel like complaining to the waiter or asking for a refund/replacement since it wasn't too expensive and I just wanted to get out of there.

They close at 9 but stop taking walk in dining after 8:15 which is understandable because food preparation duh. Those complaints about that are for people who walk in restaurants at 8:50 thinking staff should serve you and then wonder why food quality is bad. Anywho back to my experience. It's was my birthday and my first time there. Juana was my server and I gave us good recommendations on what to get. I got a boil and my bestie got a po'boy which she loved. My family is actually from Louisiana so I'm always skeptical but the seasoning was on point and the crawfish was not overcooked!!!!! No personally and in Louisiana the fish in po'boys are catfish not cod but I think that choice is based more on the location this restaurant is in. Honestly that's the only critique I have on the food it was very good. Back to the service Mark wasn't out server but he help the table next to us and I hope they tipped well he was on it. Amialey wasn't our server but she checked on us and talked with us at our table. Did I mention our amazing server Juana made me a birthday hat! They also sung happy birthday and gave me a slice of cheesecake. Again they went above and beyond. Also again they do not overcook the seafood.

I finally turned around and the female staff met my eyes and told the young men again, I wanted to place an order. I consider that not good customer service being as that their conversation wasn't about work. I have a new review of Shabang after 6 years. I have always purchased 1lb peeled shrimp, Classic seasoning and mild heat seasoning. This has been my go to. Today, I don't know who was playing in the kitchen. The sauce was watery and not red and thick in color. Shrimp was uncoated (see pic) Imagine my sheer disappointment not getting the same quality of food as I have been these past 6 years. I have brought people to eat here, near and far. Now the cook is playing in the kitchen. I hate when establishment know that their stuff is subpar for a takeout order and they're gonna throw it together thinking that you know the people aren't gonna say nothing or they're not gonna open their bag until they get home and they're gonna keep it. Well that's not me. I'm a shout it loud.

I ordered two fish, one grilled shrimp taco and one potato taco. The food came out quickly and was plated beautifully with both lemon and lime wedges. I was asked if I would like a mild, medium, or hot salsa. I chose the medium one but it had only just a little hint of a kick. It was a good tasting accompaniment for the seafood. The beer batter was crispy on the fish. There is plenty of shredded cabbage and a good crema on the tacos. Fish was very fresh and clean tasting. The grilled shrimp was seasoned well but were small and a bit dry. I would probably try the beer battered shrimp next time. Potato taco was crunchy and the filling tasted good. Altogether, the food was very delicious and left me feeling light. Service was very welcoming and friendly. Bar and dining areas were inviting and clean. One of my favorite songs, The Smiths' "There is a Light That Never Goes Out" was playing on the stereo so that was very nice while dining. I will certainly return to try the other items on the menu.

AMBIANCE 5.5/10…read more After spending way too long trying to decide what to eat, we finally settled on seafood boil and landed on The Big Catch because of their all-you-can-eat option. Walking in, our first impression wasn't great the building looked a little run down. Once inside, though, the vibe improved. It had a rustic sports bar feel with TVs everywhere, an open bar, and a seafood station. Nothing fancy, but not terrible. EXPERIENCE 7/10 The service was one of the better parts of the visit. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and took the time to answer our questions and recommend a few items. The food took a little while to come out. BTW there's a 90 minute limit after we were seated and the second round of our seafood took 30 minutes to come out (they apparently forgot our order) and they proceeded to tell us we had last call right after our second round of food barely got to the table. Not sure if that's done on purpose but we really didn't really appreciate that. Overall though, the staff definitely made the experience better. THE FOOD 5/10 Here's where things started to fall apart. The first all-you-can-eat platter came with two snow crab clusters, 1/2lb crawfish, 1/2lb mussels, 1/2lb peeled shrimp, plus unlimited sides. One thing that caught us off guard and maybe we just missed it on the menu is that after your first round, you can no longer order the snow crab or peeled shrimp. That was disappointing since those ended up being the best seafood options on the table. The snow crab was solid, and the peeled shrimp were surprisingly good the texture was crunchy and we didn't get any fishy smell or flavors. Everything after that... not so much. Round two included whole shrimp, clams, and scallops. The portions were noticeably smaller, and almost everything tasted like it had been frozen for too long. The crawfish lacked freshness, the whole shrimp had the same issue and were mushy without the initial crunch additionally the shrimp was hard to peel which makes us think that it was POSSIBLY reheated, and the scallops were tiny with a strong fishy flavor that made them hard to enjoy. Even the House/Cajun seasoning didn't do much to save it. It was too oily and honestly just tasted like salt, there was no spiciness either and we got the hot flavor. Ironically, the sides ended up carrying the meal. The cucumber salad was fresh and crunchy, which balanced out some of the heavier seafood, and the sweet potato fries were honestly one of our favorite things we ordered. And one last thing... somehow even the water tasted off. What We'd Order Again Snow Crab Clusters Peeled Shrimp Fish Taco Sweet Potato Fries Cucumber Salad Sausage Corn Skip These Whole Shrimp Clams Mussels Scallops Crawfish House/Cajun Seasoning Cajun Fries Cajun Wings Boiled Egg Water Final Rating If you're going for the all-you-can-eat seafood, don't expect premium quality. The first round is decent, but once the crab and peeled shrimp are off the table, the meal drops off pretty quickly. Would we come back? Definitely not. We ended up paying 90$ for 2 people which you can argue is good since it's an AYCE seafood meal but afterwards after speaking to the waiter we found out the shrimp and crawfish was indeed frozen that along with all the other disappointing food doesn't make us feel like it was worth the money. Overall Gassington Rating: (5/10)

There were a a handful of people waiting to be seated when we arrived and the couple before us were seated at the last outdoor patio table available. The hostess told us that we could go upstairs to the bar area and sit anywhere we wanted and a server would be with us directly. So that's what we did. As a side note, the whole vibe of the restaurant was very comfortable and the building itself is pretty remarkable. Water and menus were delivered within minutes of us selecting our table, and our waitress Victoria maintained that same level of attentiveness the whole time we were there. The biggest shortcoming of so many restaurants in and around Big Bear is the bar and their specialty drinks. But this place just slam dunked on every other restaurant we've ever tried over the years - and not just for the drinks. I love a good old fashioned but until last night, every place I'd been to served their old fashioned in a glass full of ice like I was getting a soda at a fast food drive through. Not here. A proper big block ice cube made the "Maple old fashioned" (hands down) the best drink I've ever had. (I think they've got like 7 or 8 different varieties of the old fashioned and I will definitely be back to try them.) Our potato skins appetizer was on another level and that was before our entrees even arrived. My beef dip sandwich was perfect as was wifey's chicken Scaloppini. The timing of food arriving and the periodic check-ins from our waitress was flawless. We spoke briefly with the bartender, Doug (who may or may not have been one of the owners) to express how much we enjoyed our drinks and dinner. The hallmark of a well-run restaurant is that everyone who works there conducts themselves like it's their name on the sign out front. That's exactly what we got from everyone involved. Whoever is in charge of the kitchen staff deserves a Michelin star rating. The rest of the staff is equally impressive. I can't say enough about this place. Excellent drinks, excellent food and dynamite service. If you want a top-notch dining experience in Big Bear, this should be your first and only choice. From now on, it'll be mine.

We're a family of four with a well-behaved standard poodle, so we completely understood that our seating options were limited. What we didn't understand was watching two other families with dogs arrive after us and get seated well before us, along with what felt like half of Big Bear. Our "table is ready" text finally arrived 53 minutes after we joined the waitlist. If the real wait is an hour, just say an hour. At least then we could have taken our dog for a hike, grabbed lunch somewhere else, and possibly returned in time for our table.
