I went for lunch today. I have a couple complaints. 1, the menu of soup items is jam packed with too many delicious looking items. Makes decision making difficult. The girl there helped me decide on shrimp and corn chowda because it is limited time only. she gave great advice, as it was delish. Hot, thick, steamy and packed with flavor. now on to complaint #2. Limited Time Only? Dang. well, next time I'll have to try something else while I wait for my shrimp and corn to return. Wish I lived closer to this joint, but I foresee myself going out of my way to get here from time to time. I was surprised to see this located in downtown North Andover. I lived there years ago for college and really love how many new stores there are in the area. A lot more going on than when I lived there! Boston Chowda is located in a plaza with plenty of parking, which I always appreciate when a business is in a downtown. They have a lot of items but I was mainly interested in their clam chowder. The soup list is amazing so we decided to get a large clam chowder and a large chicken veggie soup. I ordered online and it was an easy process. My items were done in no time so I headed to the restaurant. They have an outdoor seating area that looks nice. I was impressed by the amount of frozen items they had in freezers. I saw several meals that looked great and I would consider picking up next visit! Both the chowder and soup had amazing flavor. I didn't need to add anything (usually I end up adding pepper to soups I pick up). The clam chowder was packed with potatoes and clams and the chicken veggie was overflowing with chicken. So yummy! My only complaint is I think they gave us the wrong sizes. It seemed very small for $7.99 as a large and the prices on their menu seemed very reasonable so I don't think it's a case where they just give a really small portion for chowder or soup. I think we were given medium by mistake (didn't notice until I got home). At any rate, both were really tasty and I would purchase more soup and chowder and try some of their meals again for sure. read more

Lived in this area for quite a while and had never tried Boston Chowda, right in the center of North Andover. Grabbed some takeout for dinner and was impressed. Quality, homemade food, at a very decent pricepoint (3 meals and drinks were under $40!). Service on pickup was very friendly and accomodating, asking if I needed utensils and napkins was appreciated. Portion sizes were not huge, but its hearty stick to your ribs food and no one was left hungry. My shepherd's pie was great. I'm from Florida and always stop in when visiting family, Today was a big disappointment. Ordered my all time favorite, chowder in a bread bowl, and although the portion was generous it was all potatoes and minced clams that probably didn't add up to a couple of tablespoons if that much. Tried this place for the first time and got takeout. It was just ok and I wasn't wowed. I got the fish and chips plate, clam strips plate, and chicken pot pie. Everything was good but I've had better elsewhere. The chicken pot pie was $10 with not a lot of chicken, and it was a small portion for the price. The server was top notch though and couldn't have been more friendly, attentive, and professional! Kudos to him! Inside of the shop looked really clean and organized. From the reviews on Yelp for your restaurants, it appears that when people buy your soups in person they are pretty good, but I am not that person as I live in Florida. I bought your Gumbo from a seafood company near me and was saving it for a cold evening. Well, the cold evening finally arrived and I thawed the gumbo looking forward to the shrimp & sausage in the soup. However, when I poured it into a bowl I didn't see any shrimp or sausage. I went through the whole bowl and finally found 2 small chunks of sausage & 2 little tiny shrimp. The rest of the soup was nothing but rice & soup. I don't know where the hell you have eaten gumbo before but you need to go somewhere else. This is really bad, so bad that I actually took a video showing what I found; too bad you don't have any way for me to upload it. Now that I look at your container I see that the #1 ingredient is VEGETABLE STOCK, followed by SHRIMP (NOPE), then RICE (LOTS more rice than shrimp), TOMATO (I saw 2 little red things which might have been tomato skin), then SAUSAGE (again, two little chunk, each the size of the nail on my little finger), then ONION, CELERY, SUNTAN PEPPER (?), OKRA, and FLOUR. I sincerely looked and didn't see little or big pieces of any of that stuff. The ingredients closed with a bunch of spices which I doubt because the whole thing was extremely bland. I have been going here every week for 2 months, since someone at work recommended it. Up until today, I would give them 5 stars on every order. The difference is I always went during the week but today, their weekend staff is subpar. I have tried many different items over the past 2 months. Today, no one was ahead of me or behind me so the staff wasnt't rushed. I ordered a Boston Barker and it was barely warm on a sub roll that was hard as a rock. My friend got a grilled cheese and as simple as a sandwich this is, it was also barely cooked. Then another friend got a make your own roast beef sandwich, that came out ok. I don't expect perfection from college age service staff, but the staff definitely needs to be retrained for weekend work. I will not be going back on a weekend ever again. read more

Boston Chowda has forever been one of my favorite spots to hit in Quincy Market whenever I am there. Unfortunately though, until a couple of weeks ago, I had never tried their lobster roll. And I don't know what I was waiting for because this was quite possibly the best lobster roll I have ever had! I had a side of the New England clam chowder as well, and it was fabulous as always. Worth checking out at least once. The shop itself looks like a pizza/sub shop. The only difference is that this place looks very clean and bright. The service is pretty prompt, however the workers keep to themselves rather than make light conversation. The clam chowder I had was very "thin." The taste match the texture as well. Instead of a very rich and creamy chowder, Boston Chowda's chowder was alright. The major redeeming quality is the amount of clams they give you. MORE than a few in each spoonful. Now I'm wondering how long I've been walking into this place blind! I stopped by for some hot soup on a crummy, rainy day after lots of fighting with the children and.......All of a sudden they have marinated meats, frozen pasta and delivery!! Had I known about the delivery I so would not have dragged both my little "angles" out! (I would laugh, but at the time I was a little less than really annoyed...haha!) Anyways, over a decade I have been popping in here and I have to say it has grown with the times. The pasta I haven't tried, but the steak and cheese calzone that I could barely fit in the fridge it was so dang long (yea, it was skinny) was pretty darn good! It didn't have that greasy I used to be pizza dough, but today I'm featuring as calzone feel that almost every pizza place out there has. Loaded with steak and cheese, both a good sign as that's what it is (although I've been to a few places that didn't quite get that concept!) Soup, chowda and chili were all awesome, not that I expected anything less. They have, however, stocked up on frozen soups and chowdas.....again, had I known! But the reviews here encouraged me to give BC a try, and I was clearly not disappointed. I ordered the lobster roll and small "chowda". The roll was on a well toasted bun, with a very generous serving of lobster, a light but well seasoned dressing, and a small bed of lettuce. The chowda was served in a small foam bowl, was hot, and also flavorful. The claim was pretty finely chopped, so you do not hit and larger rubbery chunks, common in many house made versions. I tried the lobster chowder with half prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich which where both delicious. My sister had tried the NE clam chowder which she loved too.
