Probably the slowest line I have ever seen. There are only two cashier at a time and they have always been slow whenever I come here. The nice thing atleast is that they are willing to bring your food anywhere, not just to the boudin seating area but even to the Asia box seating area. I have ordered the chicken salad sandwich here before as well as the Brie fig and jam grilled cheese sandwich. The Brie fig and Jam sandwich I got was just really burnt and there was not much cheese in there. Petty much felt like I was eating sliced apples with burnt toast, I'd give that sandwich a 1 or 2 out of 5. I just tried eating it as fast as possible to get rid of it. The chicken salad sandwich on the other hand is surprisingly good. It's served cold but somehow comes out nicely. The bread is soft and the crust is crunchy (in a good way). The also add grapes which is interesting. at first I thought that was weird but they grow on to you. Sandwich is atleast a 3.5 out of 5 I have always ordered the clam chowder, it's not bad but it always comes out cold or rather tepid. I just don't get why they can make can't make it hot. read more

My order has been screwed up here regularly and I don't think I'll be returning after today. I got served outside today and didn't get a fork for my salad nor the bag of chips I purchased. I asked my waitress for the chips and she disappeared back inside; by the time I ate my soup and went back in to ask for a fork, there was a long line. The guy behind the counter was making such a show of playing with the fan, he claims he never charged me for the chips and I don't have time now to wait in line again before my lunch break ends. I went to the Union Square Boudin's for the first time today, and I'll admit, it wasn't that bad. I discovered this one today, and I thought, why not try it out. Plus, I wanted to go to one that was closer to work (I work in Civic Center), and not as far as the one at the Embarcadero Center. This Boudin's might not be as fancy as the one in Embarcadero Center, but they still get the job done! The staff is pretty friendly there, and once you place your order, it seems like you still get your food pretty quickly, even if there is kind of a somewhat longer line during the busyness of the lunch hour, and the busyness of Union Square in general. The food was good! I normally get a tuna salad sandwich from Boudin's. Yeah, I know I'm missing out on their famous Clam Chowder, but I don't really eat Clam Chowder. haha. Boudin's tuna sandwiches are fresh, fresher than the tuna sandwiches at Subway. LOL. I went to the Boudin's at Embarcadero Center yesterday, and their tuna sandwich was good, but the one at Union Square tasted a little better today. Customer service sucks. Came in yesterday and there was a guy waiting who looked like he had already been helped. I stood in line for about 5 mins and the people behind the counter just looked at me but no one bothered to ask if I had ordered. There were 3 people behind the counter- a guy making a sandwich and 2 other ladies that were just chatting around. I was growing impatient because I was on my 30 min. lunch so I left. It's very crusty on The outside and soft in the middle. I can just eat the bread with butter and be a happy camper The rest of the menu is ok. Great place for delicious food in Fisherman's warf. Wife got the classic chowder in the sourdough bowl and it did not disappoint. Perfect meal during the cold winter months here in SF. We split the Peruvian meatballs for appetizer and I had the seafood tacos for lunch. The food was good and the service excellent. Feel like the big selling points are the location which is right in Fisherman's warf and then the bakery and cafe which we didn't get to explore that much but looked like it had lots of good looking food and gifts. read more

I usually settle on the half a sandwich and a bowl of soup for about a little less than $10. The sandwiches are okay. It's nothing special, but at least you aren't really hungry afterwards and the food has never gotten me sick, so quality is consistently good. I usually have the turkey avocado or the italian classic. I know Deliboard is what I should be eating, but I don't have the time. The clam chowder isn't bad either. It basically warms all day in a metal container and milk is added periodically to keep it "soupy." It's almost like a white coagulated mass that tastes like clam; almost jelly-like. If you shake the bowl slightly, the soup actually jiggles. It's not quite the soup texture you would expect for a proper seafood chowder, but it reminds you enough of real clam chowder. You could go to Cafe Madeleine down the street or grab a panini at De La Rossa if you're looking for a bit better. Wise Son's is a little steep but yummy. J read more

I love Boudin in any shape or form. This little cafe on O'Farrell street is just a great place to stop by, grab some soup and a sandwich, sit in the little cafe or on the street and then go about your merry way, which is exactly what I did. I stopped by and got their bread bowl with clam chowder, sat outside where they had some seating and enjoyed my soup. Their soup is wonderful and tastes amazing and I was so glad I got to stop by. The service is also great here despite it being small and typically busy. Highly recommend if you're in the area and looking for a place to stop by and have a quick bite to eat! read more

The clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl is the reason to come! The soup was piping hot, creamy, and super delicious. The bread was fresh and paired perfectly with the soup. I got mine with a side salad which was a great addition. This place is very casual and there are no frills, but it's a good spot for a quick lunch and much more enjoyable than fighting the crowds at the larger boudin on the pier. This place was GREAT! I was super excited to come here because it's the original Boudin and I've had it in SD and loved it but whenever I'm here in SF I haven't gotten the chance to try it, until now! There's a window outside where you can see workers making their bread and then when you enter you have the choice to sit upstairs or downstairs. They have two different menus: upstairs has different options and it's a little more expensive than downstairs. Downstairs has the basic menu you can find at other Boudins. Note: if you just want a bread bowl soup downstairs is about $9 and upstairs the same item will be $15...so definitely be mindful of what you want and look over both menus and their prices before choosing where to sit. Me, my boyfriend and his cousin ordered the clam chowder bread bowl. They were pretty yummy but I think ours cooled down a little by the time we got them because we didn't know where to go to pick up our food so it was out for a little bit before we got to it. We ordered downstairs and then you're supposed to wait down at the end of the line to pick up your food but we also got caught up walking around trying to look at all the cool things this place had to offer! They have mugs for sale, cans of their clam chowder for sale (about $5.99), cheese knifes, olives, and all sorts of cool products! :D I definitely recommend anyone who loves boudin to come to this place for the experience because it's so worth it! First off, employees shouldn't talk amongst eachother excluding a customer in any service industry. It's rude. These girls were speaking in Spanish to eachother for a long time before taking my order. Got the veggie sandwich which comes on multigrain- I didn't see that last detail, I wanted sour dough of course. Sandwich was ok. Not worth $9. Very small and skimpy portions of avo/veggies. I asked for salad w it, they brought chips which is fine but when I asked for salad instead they seemed upset. When I realized it wasn't on sourdough and asked them if I could have sourdough instead they were pissed...
