We've tried it twice. Won't go back. 1st time had French Toast. It was over cooked and tough. 2nd time had eggs with bacon. Bacon was too rare to eat. Sent it back and it came back creamated. Sour dough toast was tough/stale. It looks like they tried to save money by hiring cheap, inexperienced cook. Also, they didn't have cappuccino coffee for my wife. I'm really loving that these restaurants are popping up everywhere! I took my son to the doctor (he had his 6 month shots, tear!) and decided to grab lunch before heading home. I saw Boudin across the street and instantly had some clam chowder cravings! I swear, nothing better in the world than having clam chowder out of a Boudin sourdough bread bowl--especially on a cold, rainy day! The clam chowder was great and the bread bowl wonderful--the only thing I would suggest to them is to slightly toast the top part of the bowl (the "lid" per se) and maybe put a little butter on it? The Boudin at VFair used to do that and it would make me even more excited. I also decided to get their grilled cheese sandwich (with bacon, of course!) for the first time. The grilled cheese was just "ok" and it came with a side of chips--which literally meant a bag of chips. Next time I'll probably skip the sandwich and just get a bread bowl for myself. I had always lamented the lack of a good grilled cheese place in my work area for lunch. So when Boudin opened I was thrilled! Alas, the classic grilled cheese was salty, hard, and SO NOT as good as The Melt in Stanford mall. The chips that came with it were also inedibly salty. My new favorite soup/salad/baked goods hangout for lunch meetings or just a nice lunch alone. The salads are so fresh and tasty. The variety of soups is perfect. And the breads...DELISH! The seating area is big and includes outdoor patio seating which is nice. Parking can be challenging in busy times like weekends and weekday lunches because of the other establishments in the shopping center, but not horrible. In my opinion, Boudins is better than my old favorites of Panera and Le Boulanger...not as many kids as at Panera so a little more relaxing. And much better bread than either Panera or Le Boulanger (because I love a good sourdough!). Glad I moved to Sunnyvale and found this place right next to my gym! read more

I was excited to try this place out. The place was empty. Empty restaurants SCARE me. I wanted to run out but I thought I had heard good things about this place. I learned long ago that there are very few people I can trust for a food recommendation. This would be a perfect example of that. My first bite and I instantly tasted nothing particularly special about Boudin's. The Sandwiches are bigger and cheaper at Togo's and taste better. You get to watch them make the sandwich and ask for special additions like salt and pepper on your tomatoes. This sandwich was made in the back on a slightly hard sourdough roll almost half the size. WORST dining experience at Boudin SF Sunnyvale location. Here are the reasons why: 1. Cashier asked "how are you?" after she took out order. So we responded "good, yourself?" And no respond after. If you don't mean it, don't ask. Oh one more thing, she forgot to give us the tag number. 2. Food was lined up at the counter but didn't get delivered to our table on time. We waited 20 min for food to come out. Soup was cold. Valley fair location never takes this long even during the peak lunch hour. 3. Ordered half sandwich and bread bowl soup combo but came out with cup instead. Asked to correct my order but the lady who said "sure let me get it fixed for you" didn't come back for good 5 min. At this point I already finished my half sandwich. So I ended up going back to her saying "where is my soup?" And this other lady goes "you don't come here to pick up. This is for express only". What type of customer service is this?!?! And the lady who said "sure let me get it fixed for you" stood next to the rude lady saying "oh yeah she wanted a butternut squash soup in the bread bowl". Then this one dude tells me while looking at my receipt "uh what do you need?" Come on people. I literally said "I've been waiting for my soup for past 5-6 min and this is the respond I get from you?!?!" Total 4 workers disappeared us for service today. Sorry Boudin SF Sunnyvale location, you just lost 2 valued customers because of your poor customer service. Better get back to training and polish your skills. read more

After several breakfasts here at Boudin I was set to give this place a 4 or 5 for just being nice, friendly, clean, and competent ... but on our 5th visit, this morning I was disappointed. Let me digress for a moment. I found out about Boudin when they used to sell bread in this area at supermarkets years ago. They had by far the best sourdough french bread in the area and I used to enjoy it religiously. Then something happened and I never saw the Boudin name for a very long time. So as we drove through Sunnyvale back a month or so looking for a place to eat I saw Boudin and recognizing the name thought we should give it a try. We did. We got breakfast. Fast, clean, friendly and competent. Everything was cooked well, the tables and chairs and restrooms were clean and comfortable. The food was well cooked without fumbles ... we were both very happy to have our expectations exceeded. Enough so to decide to come here for Sunday breakfast the last few weeks. Today though, I got just a few french fries with my veggie scramble, the veggies were cut in pieces that were too large. The clam chowder was really not good ... for a place that comes out of the SF bay and San Francisco that is unforgivable. The clam chowder roll that was hollowed out to make the bowl was kind of gummy and not really edible. The chowder itself bland without many ingredients. Maybe I am overly disappointed having had my expectations set that Boudin was modestly trying to best all the other cheap and dirty fast food places by just being good at what they do ... and mostly they are. I don't know if today was a trend or what but it was not up to snuff that I had come to expect. The butter for the bread that came with my meal was half melted and only one single tiny slab. The bread OK not un-toasted on one side so that it was not really toasted, just singed on one side. All the little things that had united to give me such a great impression were all undone this morning. I don't know if they have a different crew on Saturday than they do on Sunday morning when we usually come, but had I gotten this food on my first visit I would not have returned. There was something not quite right today and I hope Boudin will address that. They have everything going for them, and they have a good thing, a good location, a nice clean new building with nice new booths and tables, and a good menu with good food and a good name ... so - BOUDIN ... get with it and fix the sloppy food I got today or I'm not coming back again. Picked up two of their burgers (Blue & California) as well as the Grilled Cheese w/ bacon for some friends. It took about 15 minutes to get the food after ordering, but heck I had my phone to keep my busy. :-) The grilled cheese and bacon had great flavor, but felt like it was a little old. Not sure if it had been re-heated prior to serving, but it felt like it could have been. The roll used for my California burger was a little too charred, but the flavor was pretty good. My buddy said the "Blue" burger was good, but not great. He emphasized it wasn't a $9.00 burger. All in all, I'll give 'em another try down the line. read more

This Boudin location replaced the Baja Fresh that I knew and loved. I am still peeved over that. As for the actual restaurant, I suppose it's decent... But pricey. Soup and bread for 7 bucks? We live right around the corner from this gem. I am so glad they replaced Baja Fresh, I never liked that place. We went in for the first time tonight and the food was great! My husband ordered clam chowder in a bowl and a chicken salad sandwich. I ordered a grilled brie, apple and fig jam sandwich with a bowl of rustic tomato soup. The sandwiches and clam chowder were great however my homemade tomato soup blows this one out of the water (if I do say so myself). I took a star off because when we went in there was no seating however there were 4 tables being sat at (in the very front of the restaurant mind you) by employees on breaks! So unprofessional!! So here we are standing around why the employees sit and gab to each other, while one eats with his mouth open. They were completely oblivious. Out of all the Boudin locations I would avoid this one. Horrible "customer service" if you even want to call it that. The girl Toni (which was on her nametag but Carrin was on the receipt so idk which one it really was) that helped me at the register tonight was just flat out rude. I didn't even get greeted, just a look over the counter with this disgusted look on her face and then didnt even ask if she could help me. Just this annoyed look on her face and then ignored until she decided five minutes later she had to help me with a "so you're ready". They always are just flat our rude and always make mistakes. I'm never coming back here. Forget this location. Go to any other location but this one. I love Boudin but not this location. read more

This is the 2nd time I have received the wrong order. The fist time I dined in so there were able to correct the order. This time we ordered to go. Ordered the combo, clam chowder and turkey cranberry sandwich. Clam chowder was correct but the sandwich I received totally wrong. I opened the sandwich because it looked extremely odd for turkey cranberry. One one side of the bread, I received cranberry and red onion. The other side appeared to be half of a veggie sandwich....cucumber, cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce. NO TURKEY! What the heck!! A decent sandwich maker, who takes pride in their work doesn't wrap this sandwich and present it to the customer as Turkey Cranberry. Completely appalling and unacceptable. When I called the location the "manager's" excuse was he is a new employee and it was busy this morning. Can I come back... I didn't even hear the words, "I apologize". I've been overseas and return regularly to the bay area to spend holidays with family and friends. This time however, I noticed a lot of new eateries springing up....and they all looked crowded too. Tonight, we went to Boudin SF and I had the butternut squash soup in a bread bowl with a side spring salad. At least I thought I ordered a spring salad because what it looked like was a Waldorf salad. It didn't really matter because both were absolutely delicious! It was a bit busy here, but the line went fast enough, and there were still some empty tables where we could combine them for our group of 7. The staff here are very helpful and friendly and give excellent service with a smile. Lets hope this place and its excellent service lasts a very long time! I'm going to give this place 3 stars as it newly opened not too long ago. Got the clam chowder in a bread bowl which was delicious along with the mediterranean salad on the side. Hubby got mushroom swiss burger but it was disappointingly small and the chips came straight from a small bag that was just placed on there. Also, halfway through our dinner, the lights mysteriously turned off which left all the people in the restaurant in pitch darkness. Not sure if that was meant to encourage a more "romantic" atmosphere, but I think they may still have to work some of their kinks out. When I found out there was a boudin in the area i just moved to I was super excited. Unfortunately this experience was far from acceptable. I went with my mom and ordered a half chicken Cesar salad. When it came out it was a whole salad. I looked at the receipt and they charged me for a whole as well. I went up to the counter assuming it was a mistake, but they informed me they do not sell half salads. This is fine, but they NEVER told me that when I ordered it. I would have ordered something different if this had been expressed to me. When I told the manager this they said there was nothing they could do about it. They refused a refund and the ability for me to order something else. This restaurant STOLE from me by charging me for something I did not order and refusing to give me a refund. Dont come here. It's a rip off with lower quality food than PANERA and an absolutely horrible staff. I thought this was somewhere I could come a couple times a week for a salad, but from now on I'm going to Panera because they've never behaved this way towards me. I reccomend the Turkey Avocado and Clam Chowder in a bread bowl, for which is their claim to fame. They are fantastic standbys that I can always depend on for a delicious and filling meal, any season or time or the day. Their take-out service is quick and reliable, from which I have always gotten fresh and correct orders. The cinnamon raisin bread is also great and less tgat 6 dollars a loaf. read more

I came here on a Wednesday around 430p and no one was there. I was their only guest. Which means they had a bunch of staff with nothing to do... And it was obvious. Staff were sitting on the benches in front of the register checking their cell phones, others were on break and were eating at the tables near the register (which is fine they take lunch... But I've never seen any restaurant staff at any restaurant take break out front. Usually they eat in the back of the restaurant or in a designated staff area that's not so obvious). It was a bit awkward sitting down and eating - I felt like I was in their break space. The employees were very helpful otherwise but maybe expectations of what not to do/to do should be better communicated based on restaurant standards. With the exception of the massive amounts of mayonnaise this chain puts on their sandwiches, I usually enjoy Boudin food. But for some reason this particular one tested different and not in a good way. I only finished 1/4 of my sandwich then left. read more

I am hoping it was just an off night for this location as I usually love me some Boudin's. We ordered and sat down and then it begins. "We are out of grilled cheese." Okay. We get a ham sandwich for our daughter instead. Then they come back and "we are out of chowder." Okay. Let's do two of the broccoli Cheddars. "Oh no, we are out of that too." 20 minutes later we still have not received the rest of our food, though the manager did kindly refund our entire meal. I hope its good. Wow. Just wow.
