The sourdough bread was delicious! I went there for some soup. This is one of the only places that serve butternut squash soup ! This only comes out during the fall season I think because it's a squash. It was delicious but I have to dock off stars bc I ordered a cup and it cost $6-7.... yeah.. not worth it. I could've gotten a sandwich or something. The clam chowder was also the same price but it was more soupy/liquidy than chowdery. You can order both in a bread bowl or without it and they'll give you a bit of bread on the side. read more

Good soup, sourdough bread bowls, and salad. But one night, they ran out of sourdough bread bowls! Seems strange to run out of the signature item the restaurant is known for. Had the tuna salad sandwich with mixed greens. The sandwich was good and healthy, but there was too much bread. They need to slice the bread thinner so you get a better proportion of tuna to bread per bite. The option of toasted bread would be nice too. I have eaten here a few times since it opened about 6 or 7 months ago, and so far, I have not had a bad meal yet. Sure, the fare there isn't earthshaking, trendy, our outstanding in any way, but it has never pretended or aimed to be such. Instead, what you get is solid, consistent American food - sandwiches, burgers, salads, and soups, with nicely done sourdough bread as the star of meal after meal. It is served at reasonable prices, in a fairly homey and comfortable venue. My favorite standby here is the traditional breakfast, which I ordered this morning, along with a large cup of Peet's Coffee. The breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, sourdough toast with butter and jam, two large sausage patties, and pan-fried potatoes. Although there wasn't much creativity in creating this meal, it was still good, solid comfort food: the scrambled eggs were fluffy and not dry; the sausage patties were properly grilled and tasty; the pan-fried potatoes had somewhat somewhat crunchy exterior, and a soft (but not mushy) exterior. Other good dishes here include the sourdough French toast (which is a nice change of pace for a breakfast meal), the turkey with havarti sandwich, and the Waldorf salad. I haven't tried the bread bowl soups, but they also look good and solid. Service, like everything else about this restaurant, is fast and efficient. I wouldn't come here expecting champagne and filet mignon; however, if you want a good, solid, predictable meal, then this is the place for you. read more

We were looking for a place to eat. Many of the restaurants nearby were too busy. I am not the one to wait for 30 min+ to be seated. We found Boudin to have plenty of tables. It is clean, spacious. The burgers the original and California are quite good. Cooked till juicy. I took off one star because we ordered the kids grilled cheese and that was embarrassing. It is the size of the bottom of your closed fist. It is by far the worst kids grilled cheese. It does not compare to panera or country way or any other place. Even the manager when he was placing it on the table could see our disbelief and he made a comment to the effect it does not look so bad. No really it does and is. Lucky I ordered some extra food or my kid would be hungry. Also the bread they use for the Grilled Cheese is a sourdough which tends to be on the hard side for a grilled cheese for kids. The soups and the other food were quite good it was just that kids grilled cheese that gave me a feeling of being ripped off. I would come back but would never order the kids grilled cheese. read more

First time here. Really cold today and been fighting off a cold. Wanted to eat something hot and health. Had the Great with bacon and a bread bowl of the Butternut Squash. The wait person recommended the Rustic Stuffing bowl which was very good. Now their grill cheese is not what your mother serve. The bread was great. I wish that the cheese was warmer and oozing from the sides. Still a very good sandwich. Also, the Butternut Squash was very good. Like the cranberries topping. I hate giving a 3 star because the food is good but they just cannot get their on line pick up corrected. They rarely have my orders right and I use to use them very often! The last time I used them it was just awful to the point where I swore I would never give them business again. They didn't even want to accommodate me until I asked. Another thing was they never noted which items were which. Anytime I order with any restaurant they ALWAYS mark which items are which especially when dealing with a big order and most importantly which items are vegetarian. I love the breads. The service at this Sunnyvale store has a lot to improve. We came in at 145pm Tuesday, ordered sandwich and soup and waited 25 minutes when there were only 4 other tables in the restaurant. ALL 9 vacant tables were dirty: plates still on table after customers had left. We moved the dishes to another table and wiped ours clean with napkin. Love this place and their salads! I order from them once a week almost for our office and it is always a hit! They are great to work with and very accommodating for anything you might need. Glad to see Boudin coming to the South Bay so we don't have to go to the city. We dined here twice. The first time was during its grand opening month. The register was incredibly slow in the late afternoon. This has improved the 2nd time around. The food was good both times we were here. We ordered the 1/2 salad and 1/2 soup combo. They were decent portion. The service is hit or miss. The 2nd time around we ask not to have a bread bowl for one of the soup and yet it comes with it. Also, they have the wrong combination of salad and soup. Not sure what kind of training the servers get for this restaurant chain. Just a bit odd to see the server put the tray on the chair and walked to another table to collect plates and sweeping the crumbs onto the tray. The system where the servers deliver the food to your table is chaotic. It will work well when you have a handful of tables and an army of servers. Once it started getting crowded, it is scary to see servers wandering around with the plates... always afraid that they will drop something. This is just not efficient. They should adopt the buzzer system where patrons just pick up the food from the counter. The kitchen seems to be very efficient but the servers have hard time locating the customers. read more

I live near here and as a single person I think its a great way to have a meal. You get casual, healthy food and can eat there or take it home. I love the butternut squash soup (although I usually get it without the toppings) and usually get the soup salad combo. I like the Goat Cheese and apple salad though I'll get the Cesar is I want something simpler. The employees are all really polite. They bring the food to your table and will always stop by again later to ask if everything is alright. read more

OVERPRICED: food is good, not great but good but I believe it's overpriced. I ordered a grilled cheese for my 13 month old and the bread was so hard I had to cut the center out for him to chew it. Since it was only a half slice it didn't leave much for him to eat. I ordered the Italian sandwich with a salad and it was good. I'll go back and order the chowder and re-review it but until then I'm only giving it two stars because the food is mediocre and prices are too high for what they serve. Great food amazing customer service! My kids and I meet here for lunch a few times per month and we are usually satisfied with the great tasting clam chowder in a bread bowl and anything we order. Today, my daughter ordered a French dip sandwich and although she's not a fan of roast beef, I didn't question her order :/. Long story short , she felt sick and couldn't take the first bite! I asked Tim our awesome server if she could get something else without giving him any details aside from it not sitting well, Tim did not hesitate and within minutes, my daughter has something more of her liking AND a little token for next time's visit even though the restaurant was not at fault!! Loved the food I ordered for my corporate luncheon!! The online ordering process was simple and easy. I ordered the sandwich basket with a variety of half-sandwiches with bagged chips, large bowl of salad, and a dessert plate. Loved the beautiful presentation! The items were all packaged in pretty cellophane paper and a printed Boudin satin ribbon. The sandwiches were fresh and delicious! The mixed baby greens salad and dressing was also a hit ! They even had plates, tongs, forks, and napkins beautifully packaged in cellophane and ribbon as well. And when I called the catering department to verify they received my order, a lady by the name of Fee was so helpful and courteous. The delivery people were friendly and professional as well. i came in because other people said it was a must. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing (a chicken sand with pesto) The chicken was not freshly grilled because it was cold , and was just dry. I picked around the chicken and just ate the bread because that was the best part of it. Disappointed in the'' salad '' it came with . All it was was lettuce I felt I could go somewhere else and get a better quality sandwich. I live just down the street and I think i'll go elsewhere. read more

I've probably eaten here about 20 times since they opened. Get the reward card and you'll get $3 off or free bread seemingly anytime you step in the door. This was my go to choice for a "healthier" burger. The cashiers are always super friendly and they do a good bit of business. Problem is that recently they have become unable to get our order correct. Missing items and items that aren't quite right have become a common occurrence. Burgers and their buns are now coming out burned. This is especially concerning as they have an employee dedicated to checking your order before it is handed to you. How does a badly burned bun get through quality control? I keep giving them a chance and they keep letting me down. When will I get some self esteem and leave them??? read more
