When I first saw Boudin's being built, I thought it was a French restaurant -quite unusual for Silicon Valley. How many French restraurants around here? None. Location: A. We've live about a 7 minute walk from this Boudin, so we come here quite often -when we have coupons from the mail. Nearby Competiton: A. This place is located right in the heart of fast food row in Sunnyvale, with Rubios, Pizza my Heart, Panera Bread, Habit Hamburger, and Five Guys Hamburger all located within 150 feet, in case you don't like what you see at Boudin's, or you get stood up on a date here! Parking: A. Plenty of parking now that Trader Joe's has moved around the block, and with it the huge throng of customers. Total woman, Big 5, Habit Hamburger, Yumeya Japanese restaurant, and Peets Coffee don't have a fraction of the pulling power of Trader Joe's. Ambiance: B-: Boudin and ambiance are both French words, but that's all they have in common. This is not a place for romantic candle light dinners. It might be the place for a lunch date -a feeler first date where the woman invites the man out, with no romantic connotations in mind. Service: B-: You go up to the counter, check out the overhead menu, place your order, lighten your wallet, and take a number to put on the vacant table of your choice. Service with a smile -all graduates of charm school! Nothing wrong with this, except that I always get stuck behind people who either place an order worthy of Octomom and her kids, or are asking questions left and right about the various choices. My wife is always guilty of the last, and by the time we order, the line behind us has lengthened to 3 parties, all wearing black and all probably with coupons! Hygiene: C: tables are often unclean, especially the limited number of high demand booths. Our waiter simply brushed the crumbs off the table onto the fake hardwood floor. Not up to even Sweet Tomatoes standards, where they clean the table, the seats, and sweep the floors under the tables. Food: B: Their $7 New England clam chowder sour dough bread bowl is their piece de resistance. On New Year's eve they ran out of sour dough bread bowls, so gave us a 2 for 1 on the $6 soup alone. The soup is very tasty, creamy with potatoes, with a fish flavor, but not a lot of claims. Better than Fish Market. Not sure if our cats would like it, even though they like fish. I'm not a sourdough bread fan, and always get the multigrain bread as a substitute in my sandwiches. $8 turkey avocado sandwich had way too much mayo, and not enough avocado. Turkey seemed fresh, but hard to taste. My wife had the ham and cheese, and said it had way too much mustard. Sandwiches come with a side of lettuce. I have tried their $9 swiss cheese mushroom hamburger, and found the burger to be overcooked, a bit dry, and not enough pickles, and the bread crusty and hard. Value: C: not a good deal unless you have a 2 for 1 coupon. We had two sets of four 2 for 1 coupons, one for our neighbors which was put in our mail box by mistake -which we did not return! $9 hamburgers, $8 sandwiches with lettuce, or $6 bowls of soups, hard to justify even for SF sourdough fans. You can get a a $5 meal at Habit Hamburger, or Rubios right next door. Specials: A: Periodically Boudin has specials, like their salmon dishes in the summer: salmon salad with oriental noodles, salmon burger, salmon sandwich. I was in salmon heaven, out of control, day and night, getting 2 for 1 coupons from my neighbors left and right, and eating salmon like a Grizzly Bear! Bathrooms: C: bathroom was clean but cramped -no puddles in front of the urinal. They ran out of paper towels to dry my hands. Didn't check it that also applied to toilet paper! Finale: C: There was a French family in the next booth to us with two toddlers. Naturally I had wife sit next to them in the booth. As they were getting ready to leave, the two toddlers climbed over the partition next to my wife saying goo goo gaga over and over. Even I can understand that French! Leaving just in time! The best part was that you can come back in a couple weeks with the receipt and get another BOGO offer. I came here for dinner last night with Ken L. The line wasn't too bad. I went to the location in Cupertino lat year on this day and it was busy... so busy they ran out of clam chowder and offered their other soups instead. Decent food, decent prices, and decent customer service. For some reason, I have been a regular at Boudin SF during the month of August... During my recent visits to this Boudin SF location, I ordered a Clam Chowder Bread Bowl and a side of Caesar Salad ($9.99), Grilled Cheese with Ham ($9.49), and a Chicken Caesar Salad ($10.49). The clam chowder was decent, but tasted similar to other clam chowders I've had in a can. The sourdough bread bowl wasn't fresh, but did its part as a bowl to hold the clam chowder in. The grilled cheese was pretty darn good, but was way overpriced for what you get. The chicken Caesar salad was tasty, and was definitely my favorite item out of everything I ordered in terms of taste + value. As for the customer service, it can be shaky at times. One day you can be greeted by the new guy who is happy to take your order, and on another day you can have your order taken by the supervisor who, at times, can be slightly grumpy and forgets to turn her frown upside down. Service was awesome! I def enjoyed the new layout as well! I got my meal for free before the grand opening and ordered the havarti turkey sandwich, clam chowder, a loaf of sourdough bread, a blueberry scone, and of course my drink! The seating can be changed up a little bit because there seems to be traffic in the dining area and people are a bit squished but other than that, everything is fine! The service is what makes this place rock! I enjoy their enthusiasm as well as their customer service towards the people. They make sure your'e doing ok and they even ask if there's any questions for them! The food was up to par like it always is, and the timing from order to receiving my meal was just right. I can tell right off the bat, that this place will be a new hot spot especially the possibility of knocking off panera across the street. Now they are both completely different chains but Boudin has the obvious lift towards the food section. The baguette burger was very unique and one of a kind for sure. This review of one star is solely for the food. The staff there was friendly. This was the first time I've been to this place. The meal was quite possibly one of the worst meals I've had in a very long time. Ordered half sandwich half salad plate. Got the crab Louie toast and the crab Louie salad. It was a pitifully small amount (I really should have taken a photo). The one slice of sourdough looked like half of a slice. Filled with butter sprinkled with a wee bit of cheese and crab with no flavor. Salad had a lot of wilted leaves that were brown on the edges. There was no care at all given to the dish. We also ordered a chocolate shake and it tasted of some strange plastic. We did not drink it. We did inform the staff and was told it might be the straw. Took off the straw and took a sip. Consistently solid efforts from this chain sandwich/bread shop. I've been to a handful of Boudins over the years, and this one is definitely among the best locations. Ordering in person and online is quick and easy. I appreciate their COVID-times ordering setup (walk in one door, wait in an open area, and exit through the other door). I've had mostly cobb salads from this location. Their bread is always good, but I did notice that a couple of times they had pre-sliced baguettes ready for orders as opposed to slicing after it's ordered. Their soup is definitely prepared and served better (read: hot) than the sister Cupertino location, where the soup is always lukewarm at best. read more

Let me start by saying the clam chowder soup was so watery I couldn't believe it, it's like someone poured water into the soup to make it look like it had more, clam chowder is suppose to be thicker and unfortunately my soup was so watery I couldn't eat it. But what made my night wasn't just the good food, it's Lynna! She was just delightful and so funny. I never seen customer service like hers before. She was just so kind and lovely. Stopped by the Cupertino store and they didn't have the size bread I needed. Happily they gave me the phone number of the Sunnyvale store and I was able to determine that they had what I needed, and I also ordered a sandwich, too!! Sandwich was their turkey and havarti on sourdough roll, so yummy!! The bread was not as good as I remembered it being after years of getting it here. It was dry and really dense. I was cutting it up for use in spinach dip so I was hoping it would be sturdy but soft. I used a large loaf for cutting up, leftovers we toasted and it was good. I put the dip in the small rounds they use for soup. YAY!! I will definitely come here again, even though it is a bit of a detour from 280 on my way north. Prior to that, it was occupied for even more years by a Burger King. I remember going there lots of times as a kid. Good times. Now that the history lesson is over, onto the actual review: Boudin, for those who don't know, specializes in selling sourdough bread as well as serving food centered around sourdough bread. You can get breakfast, lunch and dinner. On my most recent visit, I settled for a simple grilled cheese sandwich. Facts: * Order and pay at the front. * Seat yourself and your food will be brought to you once it's ready. * Sometimes, on special occasions/holidays, they give out free bread to each group. My grilled cheese came with some bagged chips and was tasty (although maybe a little too greasy for my taste). I washed everything down with a simple bottled water. There is outdoor seating in addition to their indoor seating. IMO, the view outside with the hills in the background is actually really nice and pleasant. On a warm evening, eating outside is a must. The shopping center that this Boudin is in is really old and could use a renovation, but it's nice to see Boudin at least get a steady amount of business. 4 stars read more

I came here for brunch with my friends. I am glad they have a menu that goes well with my healthy lifestyle. My dish was only 330 calories packed with fresh vegetables and protein. If I could give negative stars, I would. DO NOT GO HERE! Both my wife and I were feeling under the weather so we decided to order online. Once we completed our order it said the food would be ready in 20 minutes. Fine, no problem. We waited 20 minutes before heading out to pick up the food. We walked up to the order pickup and inquired about our order. The employee said they hadn't received it. Weird, as we go a confirmation email. They went into the back and came out and magically they had our order now, but it would be a ten minutes wait. When we asked why as we had already waited 20 minutes, they had no excuse for us. Except now the wait was going to be 20 minutes. Wait what? How in the span of two minutes had the wait gone up? When we said to just cancel it and refund us, the employee said they don't do refunds. We would have to wait. Now, why would I want to wait 20 minutes on top of the 20 minutes we already waited? That makes 0 sense. We repeated we would like our money back and asked to see the manager. When the manager Olivia came out she all but threw some gift cards at us and said we don't do refunds and we would have to wait. And then when we stated again, we do not want to wait, the cook, Augustine, stuck his head out from the back and snarked at us what our problem was and why couldn't we wait. Excuse me? At this point we were fed up. We went for comfort food and left with a nasty taste in our mouths. The cherry on top was when I tried to call to get the people's names. We were furious and wanted to make a complaint. When the manager picked up I asked for her name and she hung up without a word. I called back and it rang despite me having just been hung up on. Luckily eventually Paula picked up. I asked her for names and she kindly gave them to me (good luck, Paula. You seem nice). I called corporate and filed a complaint. They said I would get a call from the area manager the next day, which never happened, and a refund within 3-5 days and tomorrow is the fifth day so I won't hold my breath. Don't go here.
