My fiance and I ordered the mushroom and swiss burger and a combo meal with a roast beef sandwich and bread bowl with clam chowder. The burger was overcooked, the sandwich had way too much sauce, the bread bowl and bread on the burgers and sandwich was stale, and lastly, the clam chowder was alright, but it just didn't make up for the poor quality of the rest of the food. I really enjoy Boudin SF. It's clear that they're trying to challenge Panera and they're doing a good job for the most part. Things I like: - Grilled Cheese, all the grilled cheeses are good, especially the grilled ham and cheese. - Salads are decent here. - Soup is always good, I like the tomato soup on the side in the mug. Went here after work around 4pm on Thursday to grab some food before a basketball game. The guy at the register was really nice to the horribly annoying and pushy woman in front of me in line. Double thumbs up to him for not talking crap about her, even after she left. Ordering was smooth, and coffee was good (kind of cold even though the girl told me it was a fresh brew). I had the ham and brie with cranberry sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie (i feel like there was salted caramel in it too). I was semi grossed out that there was hunks of avocado in the part of my sandwich where they cut it, and all over the paper it was wrapped in (because it wasn't supposed to have avocado, so clearly they have a one knife to rule them all policy, and don't clean it between sandwiches. Take note if you have food allergies). The sandwich was alright. Not bad, but not amazing. The bread was delicious, except it had waaaaaay too much flour on the outside from rolling, which made my sandwich taste more like flour than the fillings or the bread. The cookie was amazing delicious. Crunchy and chewy and chocolatey sweet salty goodness. Order was around $12 Overall, this place is pretty good. Nothing to write home about, but not bad. How can you beat a Sourdough bread bowl from the famous Boudin SF! Driving to Panera, I spotted this new Boudin location. There is a battle for bakeries for lunch and Boudin is winning it in my book. The bread bowl is what brings everyone to Boudin since its the cream of the crop. The clam chowder bread bowl is the best I've ever had and never found another place with the same great sourdough. No matter how full I am, I need to finish the whole bread bowl because its that delicious. I was able to get a bread bowl and a half of sandwich for under $10. I got a half of chicken salad sandwich. It was decent but not memorable. The service is great: order at the counter and they will bring your food to you with silverware and everything. I work in SF, but haven't had a chance to visit one of the Boudins up there. I was ecstatic when I saw that Boudin had opened up in Sunnyvale. This is a lovely addition to the plaza...it used to be dead. When I came here I noticed that there were a lot more cars in the plaza and the restaurant was virtually full with patrons. While waiting in line to order a girl came around with samples of the chocolate raspberry bar. Delicious! I had my heart set on getting the clam chowder bread bowl. I do wish there was more clam chowder in the bowl...but I guess that's wishful thinking since they'd have to hollow out the bread bowl more. I didn't want to waste food, but I didn't want to eat all the bread. These Boudins seem to be popping up a lot in the south bay. having had my first choice be closed for lunch,it was getting late and I had to get something quick. Having been out of hte country for a while, it was time for a burger. Mushrrom swiss + bacon was going to fit the bill. Comes on a grain baguette with chips on the side. The taste was initiallly good but their policy is to cook well done which saddens me a bit. It would have been super tasty medium rare. Alas, how does one fight a corporate policy? The place is clean, and the workers are mostly friendly. Parking iis a little crazy and for $15 for the burger and a drink , I was thinking the cost is somewhat high but they are trying to maintain a certain level of quality and consistency so...3.5 stars read more

I did not enjoy my trip to Boudin. It was my first time there. I was totally unfamiliar with the menu. So, when it came time to order, I panicked and opted for the closest thing to a burger that I could find (the California baguette burger). The micro-print under the item confirms that it's on multigrain wheat bread. That's a little odd for a burger, but whatever. It's my fault for ordering the wrong thing. Just had to buckle down and make the best of it. As far as the food itself: it wasn't great. The meat was overcooked; somewhere between medium well and burnt. The sandwich collapsed under it's own weight and was impossible to eat without getting all over my hands. And that sucked, because the order only came with one, single, solitary napkin. Which brings me to my second gripe: the girl behind the counter was very stingy with the napkins. When I was a barista, I had a manager like this. Someone who was CONVINCED that the key to hitting her bonus accelerators was by saving money on things like sugar packets, straws, and towels. From a customer standpoint, it's just incredibly annoying and obnoxious. Still, if a customer specifically asked for something, she'd always oblige. That's not what happened at Boudin. I approached the counter (where the workers were all socializing) and asked where the napkins were - because I couldn't find them at the condiment station. The girl, who appeared to be in charge, gave me an odd look and slowly said, "Uh... we usually bring them with the food." Then, instead of handing me a napkin (because I clearly wanted one), she just continued to stare at me. By the way: the reason I wanted a napkin was because the table was dirty. Which is odd, because they'd only opened an hour ago and had, virtually, no customers in the building - so there's no reason it shouldn't have been cleaned by someone. And finally: I went to the bathroom during my visit there. And one of the sandwich-makers was coming out as I was going in. Now... I'm not an "expert" on wholesale toiletry equipment for commercial retail purposes... but when the urinal is still flushing as the employee is leaving the bathroom, my deductive instincts tell me that it's because he zipped up and walked straight out, without washing his hands. I'd love to be wrong. But I don't think I am. I think I'll continue to patronize Panera, across the street. read more

I stopped back into this location and was really taken aback at the inappropriate nature of the management. Several job interviews were being held in the dining area and when I walked up the cashier was being told how much comes out of the employee paycheck for medical and dental. She had to cut him off to greet me. It always makes me question how employee's are treated if employee relations are discussed in the dining room and not in an office. Trader Joe's Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper soup is a good substitute... Roasted Cremini Mushroom and Swiss Baguette Burger with mixed greens, no mayo. Made with California-grown Black Angus USDA Certified beef. A-OK, however I find it difficult to eat a burger on a baguette. As much as I love grinding on a baguette, a different type of roll might work better for those without razor sharp teeth. If it were up to me, I'd rather have the burger on toasted sliced sourdough bread, so I'm not wrestling with biting through the baguette with each bite! Haha. I usually get it with the tomato soup, which goes amazingly with the toasted bread and cheese. -Oatmeal raisin cookie: The only baked good I have had here but I was impressed! Such a simple cookie, but had just the right amount of sweetness and as an added bonus, it was perfectly soft. Cons: -Ordering can take forever. So I tell them what I want as a replacement. 20 minutes go by, and the worker proceeds to put a sandwich in my bag, when I asked for a salad. We also love sourdough, so of course when he came to visit we had to swing by a Boudin, and I'm really glad not to have to drive to San Francisco for it :) He had the tomato soup (in a bread bowl, of course) and half a California veggie sandwich, I had the butternut squash soup (also in bread bowl) and the goat cheese and apple salad. I was devastated to know that they couldn't do the half & half deal with the hot sandwiches, because really, tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich would be so nice... Anyhow, we both enjoyed our meal outside, as it was a lovely sunny day and I felt like being in the sunshine. There weren't a lot of other customers as we were there for a bit of a late lunch, so when our soup came out, it was HOT. We both burned the tops of our mouths with the first spoonfuls, but barring that both were delicious soups. The salad could stand to have had the apple slices cut in half or something (they are unwieldy to eat with a fork), but it was very tasty. Had I thought harder about it, I would have ordered a loaf to take home, too--it's definitely the same delicious bread as the main SF bakery :) When I'm hungry and in this area again, I'll definitely be stopping by. read more

Love coming here for some soup!!! I have tried a few soups at Boudi SF particularly the butternut squash soup and the calm chowder soup. Those two flavors are seriously amazing especially the clam chowder. They are both really hearty and full of flavor. They also definantly do not skimp on portion sizes either. I ordered my soups in a cup rather than a bread bowl and the portion size in the cup is very nice. If you opt out of the bread bowl, you will get a small dinner roll on the side. The soups is a little on the pricier side. I believe it was $6.99 for a cup of soup, but you definantly get what you pay for. It is worth the $6.99! I will for sure be back to try some of their other soup flavors. read more

We've been here a few times, most recently as part of a fundraiser for a local elementary school. Service tends to be a little slow, and on this evening, with the larger-than-average crowd because of the fundraiser, it was perhaps a little slower than usual, but not unacceptable either. The food is very good, especially some of their sandwiches. The clam chowder isn't as good as I remember from the first time I ever had Boudin in the city many years ago. The sourdough bread bowl is still the way to go. During the fundraiser, the manager came around and gave everyone coupons for free loaves of bread on a future visit. That was a very nice touch.
