We have been to Boulder Cork a couple of times. The first was a nice experience: the food was generally good, the service was generally good, and we did not have to shout to be heard. The second time the food and service were still good, but the noise level was too much to enjoy conversation. I think it is generally a good restaurant, but would recommend booking for earlier or later than peak hours if quiet conversation is important to you. read more

We had been my mother's 80th birthday party at the Cork. I live out of town, but have been to the Cork dozens of times over the past twenty years. I worked with Donna and Kaitlin from my home in California and they were so incredibly helpful and responsive. The food was outstanding and our servers, Jason and Kate were so attentive. But most importantly, the food was the BEST! From the appetizers to the mud pie dessert, everything was perfection. I will dream of the filet Oscar. My brothers who are very much the foodies, said the steaks were GREAT! But the best part was seeing my mom so happy under the care of the staff. My boyfriend and I are new to Boulder and wanted something fancy and romantic. So I made a reservation. It's recommend because a group walked in to see if there was a table available they where Booked until 9:30pm. We where seated right away. But the table was not the greatest. Seated in the corner the tables are very close to each other literally my boyfriend moved the whole table away from another table. I'm a small built lady. That's how close the tables were. We enjoyed out conversation but could hear other couples conversations. We chose the special for 55 dollars we got a 3 course meal Cesar salad was good. Prime rib was ok. The thing I didn't like was the host would come around a fill our glasses of water. But he like I said the tables are so close the host literally had his ass in my face. Probably the best steak in Boulder but avoid dining in the bar if you can because the level of service declines significantly. We used to be regulars until we moved to AZ, but we were recently appalled by level of professionalism and hospitality that our waitress demonstrated one night that we stopped in a few weeks ago. Our flight got in late to Denver and we wanted to get a decent meal before heading to the hotel so we stopped off at the Cork around 10:00. We knew they'd still be open. We sat down in the bar area and we were greeted by our young waitress who couldn't have made it more obvious that by us being there was causing her some kind of inconvenience. It was written all over her face that she was looking to leave for the night and the only thing standing in her way was us. Granted it was on the later side and the last couple tables were just getting up to leave, but we were just looking to get some quick food and get out. We weren't trying to camp out until midnight with a full course meal. I think we even made this clear to Katelyn(I think that was her name, fairly attractive short brunette) but we still felt pressured to get out and we were rushed throughout every part of the process. We definitely have run into this girl with this foul attitude before. The last time we came in(maybe 2 years ago) she was working as a hostess and apparently someone had the brilliant idea that a 21 year old college girl could just jump into waiting tables at well-respected establishment like the Cork. Anyhow, her knowledge of the wine list and wine in general was embarrassing. We know that at your age you've probably only drank Franzia straight from the bag at some frat party but come on. At least try to act the part... In addition to her abrasive demeanor, when she delivered our steaks and got closer, it became immediately apparent that this girl had not given her work outfit a wash in quite some time. When she leaned in to place our plates down, the musty smell of food and sweat that had surely accumulated on her clothes over the course of a few weeks completely engulfed our table. Very unappetizing, however it was the perfect way to cap off the experience. Don't get me wrong, we used to love this place and I definitely would have told you a few years ago that it was in my top 3 restaurants in Boulder. The prime rib is spectacular here, but I think I'll just go to the Chophouse next time. This experience clearly exemplifies that the place has gone downhill. Especially if they have to scrape from the bottom of the barrel for talent by hiring entitled CU students who don't care about anything other than leaving early so that they can get wasted with their friends on the Hill. read more

Had high expectations going in and it was altered by the poor, poor service. The hostess made us feel unwelcome and it was the start of the unacceptable service at such a pricey establishment. It was close to ten minutes before we saw our waitress. The next and last time we would see her was when we she brought us the wine. She nor anyone else ever came back to ask how the meal was. The food was great but when spending $150.00 I expect a lot for service. It was an uncomfortable decision leaving a $30.00 tip. They have a reputation for great happy hours in the bar. After a sleepless night and an early morning flight where I was serenaded by screams from a kid in the row behind me, having fits over a 2 hour flight, I checked into the Westin in Westminster and went to the mall to get a meal. Oh hell no, I'm not going to a generic mall restaurant!!! Off I headed to Boulder, about 30 min north. I drove to the area that was recommended to me, but didn't really feel like pub food. My instincts told me there must be some fine dining here, and that is when I came upon Cork. Taking the recommended special of the night, I devoured a 10oz. Fillet Mignon covered in crab and topped with a Bearnaise sauce. This was more red meat than I've had all year. Too much really, as I was soooooo sad that I could not even have the Pink Grapefruit sorbet...something I had only had one other time. My server was gracious enough to get me a taste of the Lemon sorbet when I asked if it was really tart. The 'taste' was several spoonfuls, the most tart of all that I have tasted and more than satisfied my need for dessert. I had to apologize to her for not being able to stuff another thing into me (visions of Mr. Creosote danced in my head). Guzzling down several quarts of water and iced tea didn't help either, but I couldn't stop myself. This was the best H20 I've had in my life!!! The Rocky Mountain Springs are no joke. The Cork is our go to for a nice meal in town. Great happy hour in the bar. Not many vegetarian options other than fish and the sides. Bartender makes mean drinks, and make sure you have time because service can be slow but it's good - the staff is knowledgeable and nice. The mud pie is the best, ever. read more

My friend Kirk had heard so many good comments about this long established Boulder fixture we wanted to try it for a Thursday lunch. We arrived about 11:30 and were promptly seated in the bar area near the windows. We commented how sparse the menu seemed but in any case many of the descriptions looked good. I ordered the seared tuna special with an orzo pasta side, the fish was fresh and the pasta tasted okay. My friend ordered the fish tacos and we both remarked about how bland and uninteresting they were. The German dark beer ordered was excellent however the Bloody Mary had an indescribable 'off-flavor' we also had a couple of glasses of wine, the recommended Pinot was very good however the Moscato wine was poor quality. Crème brûlée $8, had a good flavor but a course texture, perhaps a little too old. The apple-cherry crisp with Vanilla ice cream was unremarkable expect for the 8 dollar price tag. Combined with the slow service, unremarkable food served tepid and steep prices for lunch we will not be returning anytime soon. All in all $115 dollars for a lunch that Jason Deli could have beat was not my idea of good ambiance. read more

This review is for THANKSGIVING meal only... ham was 10/10, absolutely delicious!!! Turkey was 6/10, sort of dry and while healthy not very flavorful. Stuffing was 6/10 (needed more savory flavor) cranberry sauce 9/10 (most excellent, not to sugary), mashed potatoes 7/10, NY Strip quite good 9/10 (as expected!)...overall portions were generous... on to dessert: cheesecake 10/10 (not overly sweet, just right texture), Pecan pie 6/10 (sort of bland for my southern tastes), chocolate moose rich and cocoa-y 10/10... cocktails: tasty and very generous (almost 2 in one!) ... I love the happy hour! The sparkling wine, roast artichoke and fresh fish curry is my go to. The burger with green chili is yummy too.

After hearing friends rave about this place we finally decided to take the leap and eat here. We came on a Monday night to celebrate our daughter moving out of state. We had reservations and were seated promptly. My main complaints are the service and the coldness of the place. The food was mostly good, but we had the special, a steak Oscar I think it was, which is a steak topped with crab and Bearnaise sauce. The crab was AWFUL. It was dry, very salty and fishy tasting, like seafood from the back of the freezer. The steak was good and cooked as ordered. The service, as I said, was strange to say the least. Our waitress had no emotion - no smile, no pleasantries and seemed a bit irritated to answer questions or help. On arrival I stopped in at the restroom before sitting down and ordered my drink after everyone else. After waiting quite awhile my husband flagged her down and she did bring it finally and didn't charge, but didn't apologize either. All through the night, though the service was generally prompt, the server was so wooden and grumpy it took the fun out of it. It IS pricey - we ordered wine that costs about $45 in the store and so my husband figured it would be about $70 at the normal restaurant mark-up, but it was DOUBLE. Our bill for three of us came to over $500! I expect TOP NOTCH service and food for what we paid. Any server working there should make better than average tips and should at least SMILE. If your job is that bad, you need to find a new one. Perhaps the attitude comes from the manager? Many reviews here mention the service. A good restaurant gets rid of servers like that and managers who don't care have staff who don't care. We were wearing dresses and wished that we had worn jeans and heavy sweaters - it was cold and drafty just like the server! Wish I'd sent my food back but I didn't. Wish we'd checked the prices of the wine first but we didn't. That's our fault - but we still won't be back! read more

We visited for a last minute celebration with the family and enjoyed ourselves. The filet was good and the smoked mash potatoes are a different take than the usual side. I had the scallops and they were tender and tasty. My husband tried the fish of the day (trout) and he was not very impressed- he said it was "just ok" and was not sure he'd go back. The ambience was not what we expected, a lot more cafeteria like than steakhouse. The waitress didn't appreciate my husbands joke about the kids menu but that's ok- I usually don't laugh either. ;) read more

Yesterday, 10/03/18, while dining with guests I ordered the Ahi Tuna sandwich with salad. The ahi was prepared seared as requested. It was perfect, perhaps the best ahi I have ever been served anywhere. Ask for the wasabi, it was missing from my plate. The accompany items were dandy. This is my first bad review of a restaurant and I only write it to warn the public. My friend wanted to eat here for his birthday and I had never been so us and our spouses went for dinner. Appetizers were delicious and we were having a great time, then the main course came out and everything went to shit. All of us order steak three filet two au poivre and mine was Oscar, my wife ordered prime rib. Not one steak is at the right temp mine was raw and what they said was lump crab was pathetic and looked like mushy tuna salad, my friends was overcooked and his woman and mine were rare. They ordered medium well. My wife also ordered three scallops very expensive and they still had sand in them and were not seared properly. No one was comfortable sending steaks back except for my wife and they took her prime rib and seared it on the grill, essentially ruining it. We got a free desert and a photo for birthday boy but it was a $500 debacle. DO NOT! go here if you are looking for a great steak dinner. read more

I forget about the Cork because of its location, in my mind I search up and down the Pearl street corridor. But tonight I felt like a steak, not the usual Boulder fare. I will not forget again. We started with an ahi tuna tartar that was like eating butter from the sea. Moved on to the heirloom tomato salad that I hesitated to eat due to its beauty, like art on a canvas the tomatoes were laced with flowers, fresh mozzarella and a basaltic glaze. We ate the art and are better people for it! And finally the steak, you know that feeling when you get the first charred to perfection bite when your mind goes Yes this is worth the cost and the cholesterol and all of the judgement from all of the people having tofu for dinner Yes! I chose this place for a 10 person dinner with some 30 something year old friends based on its exterior cuteness and ability to take a reservation. We did some Yelp work in advance and knew to try the burgers. Everyone who had a burger was very happy with their decision -- including me. Everyone who didn't have the burger had mixed reviews on the food. The service was pretty appalling and slow. The wine recommendations from our server, begrudgingly, were all unanimously bad. That being said, I'm a good burger glutton, and it was a fantastic burger. I might just have to consider take out in the future. read more

From the looks of the outside, I didn't expect to see what I found on the inside. The restaurant is very comfy, chill, romantic, and inviting; decor is on target. Wine was delicious and so was the bread and butter (my fav!). I ordered the lamb chops entree (came with two) and wasn't thrilled with it at all. It had tough fat and chewy parts. Mashed potatoes and cream of spinach were very good. Service was mild. She forgot a bring out someones dinner from our table but luckily it was just a sandwich so it arrived fairly quickly. She was a bit aggressive when removing plates from the table or when placing our meat knives on the table. I accordance with the price of the meal, I expect service and quality to be excellent and it just wasn't. I would like to try this place again and order something different to see if my opinion changes. read more

Three years later and still the same story. I'm astounded that a restaurant that bills itself as a steakhouse doesn't know how to cook a steak. It was deja vu all over again. I ordered the filet mignon medium (knowing that they tend to under cook their meat). I was hoping to get at least medium rare which would have been fine. However.....it came out blue and cool in the center. I was a grill cook and I know how to cook steaks. If the grill is too hot, the meat seers on the outside without cooking properly in the center, especially with a thick cut. When I informed the waiter that the steak was really rare he asked me to tell him to inform the cook HOW he should cook my steak!! I told him that if I had to TELL the cook how to cook a steak medium than I'd rather not even try again. So I just ordered a burger. It wasn't bad but another unfathomable error from a steakhouse. When you grind meat its important to trim all the "gristle". You certainly want a nice amount of fat so it cooks into the meat, but gristle just turns into little rock hard pieces. I found about 7 or 8 pieces of gristle which made the eating experience not so pleasant. I do appreciate "al dente" vegetables but the broccoli and asparagus were "toothy". Lastly, it may seem like a small thing, but a restaurant that charges these prices should be able to afford a salt grinder. Bringing salt to the table in a small ramiken and expecting the customers to share it by using their fingers is pretty poor. I'm not going to take it to three strikes. The Cork is tops if you're a meat lover. Steaks are always, always perfectly cooked and nice cuts. And service is typically attentive at the right times and fades into the background when appropriate. We come here for good food, an atmosphere that isn't rushed and wait staff that lets you sit a spell and chat between courses. The last time we visited, however, was not what we've come to expect. Granted, it was Valentine's day so we gave the delays in ordering and arrival a free pass. The problems were with the bartending and the food. The clam chowder was inedible and contained something that felt/tasted rotten in my mouth. They also served me the worst dirty martini I've ever tasted....seemed about half olive juice...maybe there was an untrained bartender filling in to handle the crowd? We'll definitely go back. Six of us were looking for a round table so that we could have a nice conversation with dinner and the Cork was able to provide one with a private room too. Service was excellent and I wish I could say that all the food was as well. But it was uneven among the six of us. The men all had beef: the filet was excellent, the steak with bernaise had a hunk of grizzel in the middle and the prime rib was a major disappointment. Two of us had the sea scallop fish and we both give it an excellent vote and the halibut special was also good. The special grilled watermelon salad also gets good marks. But the men all had sides that if it didn't seem Perry, would have sent back... bad baked potato??? How could you screw that up? On top of that, their prices are really high. I'm sad to have to report this, as the Cork is a Boulder institution. Maybe just come for happy hour or if you're on a corporate expense account. read more

HORRIBLE!! WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE CORK? The other night I ordered the Steak Oscar special and wanted it cooked "medium rare" - without being bloody. The server recommended "medium" instead. It took FOREVER for our order to arrive (my uncle was falling asleep!). When the food was finally brought out, I was shocked to see a small, blackened piece of meat. When I cut into the tough piece of charcoal, there was no sign of pink. The server took it back to the kitchen where the "chef" cut it up into 4 pieces to display a bit of pink and told her to tell me "that's the way it's supposed to be". Mind you that the other people at my table that had ordered the same dish had beautiful, tender, large pieces of meat. Besides the nasty meat, the crab was completely tasteless and the bernaise was the most bland sauce EVER! I should have refused the dish and asked to speak with the manager, but did not want to make a scene. BIG MISTAKE to send the chef's major error back to the table and tell the customer that they are wrong! I have lived in Boulder my entire life and have enjoyed going to The Cork, but the quality of their food has rapidly decreased in the last few years. I will NEVER eat here again and will not recommend it to anyone. There are too many other AMAZING restaurants in Boulder that serve incredible food. Will The Cork be the next restaurant to close in Boulder? Too bad...so sad! read more

Honeymooning in Colorado and was up near Estes park for the day. On the way back to Denver stopped at Boulder cork for dinner. The place is so nice. They take open table reservations which is a plus! Our waitstaff was Amber and Katherine and they were fantastic! The lemon drop martinis were perfect and so was our Mac and cheese appetizer. The cowboy steak was cooked perfectly and we topped off the meal with an ice cream sundae which was comped by the Cork. We also received an awesome picture celebrating our honeymoon! Soo sweet! I have never written a review in my life. But my conscience wouldn't let me get away from dinner at the Cork. To start I ordered a J.D. Manhattan, it had to sit in the shaker for several minutes before being served it was ice cold and flavorless. I did complain but to no avail, oh well. I then proceeded to order my dinner "Corks special steak", baseball cut medium rare. Once arriving at our table it looked spectacular. Taking fork and knife in hand I attacked. To say the steak was undercooked with a few sinews is an understatement. No pink or red just purple inside and tough or chainsaw tender. I will say I can eat extra rare, but that's not what I ordered. On the other hand my wife's sake salmon was cooked perfect and very flavor able . Also no bread or rolls were offered before or during our meal. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for fine cuisine. Happy 25th anniversary hon. 2 stars for the salmon. J.Z. read more
