I used to frequent the Lyon's that was here back in the day after a night of clubbing and/or drinking and noticed that it had been replaced with the Boulevard Cafe a few months ago. From the outside this new place looked kinda cool, in a lounge-y sort of way. I finally got around to trying this restaurant, and was impressed (at least by how it compared to Lyon's!). I had the pesto rigatoni with chicken, and it was quite good. The service was also excellent and the decor was a good step above your run-of-the-mill cafe. The other three people who were with me also enjoyed their meals, which says a lot because it could be easy to get one meal right, but all four? Definitely worth checking out if you find yourself in Daly City/Westlake and are too hungry to make it (back) into the city. read more

The wife and I have been here a few times now, and it's great considering that (a) there's parking near the city, (b) the wait for breakfast/brunch is really quick. Those are valuable rarities as long as we've been in San Francisco. It's a large interior so there's plenty of seating, much more so than the typical diner restaurant in the Daly City/SSF area. On top of that, the food is always solid, not overly greasy (though it is greasy) or overly sweet (though it can be sweet). I can only recommend breakfast/brunch items since that's all we've only been during those hours. The pancakes can be heavy, so I usually order the belgian waffle if I'm in the mood for sweets. It's not perfectly crispy, but it's close enough to be satisfying. I also love the huevos rancheros if you're in the mood for a savory breakfast. Good portion size, and tasty too. Overall, if you're driving around looking for brunch in the lower SF neighborhoods, a small venture out to Daly City pays big dividends. read more

If you have to eat here then you have to eat here. Secretly I wish it was still Lyons. Oh well haha. The table set up is a bit weird. Interior is nice tho. I have been here a few different times, but was never really that impressed. On the last visit, i got the half chicken with veggies and potatoes. The chicken was ok but the veggies flooded the plate. No. I do not mean there were too many(for me, you can NEVER have too many veggies) BUT i think the chefs didnt get the memo on draining them after you steam them. It was like a swimming pool for the chicken. No thanks. They do have a good thai beef salad though. So next time ill just stick to getting that. Basically...stick to stuff they cant mess up. Boulevard is a great little restaurant that I've been to many times and really enjoy. It's one of those "go to" places for consistent good quality food. Bring your appetite because the portions are generous, but that also makes it difficult to choose from the extensive menu. The interior is kinda funky retro cool... Went here with a couple of acquaintances who were here before a year ago. The fact that they were willing to come here again was recommendation enough for me. Plus, I love diner food. We got in at a convenient time. By the time the 5 of us were seated, a line started forming in their very sunny waiting area. I loved our table set-up. I was originally a 4-top, but the leaves can be put up to form a circular table to fit 5 people very comfortably. Can't speak for everyone else, but we all mostly cleaned our plates. They all had various breakfast items, including one guy who had a steak in his. I had a burger and fries. The burger was slightly less undercooked than the medium rare I had requested. But that just meant that I didn't need to eat the bloody center. Fries were so-so. But I'm picky about my fries -- I really prefer all of them to be crispy. No limp fries for me. I came in specifically for beer and some bites during happy hour this time, heading straight into the lounge. They had $4 pints, Sierra Nevada, Stella, Lagunitas IPA. The whole reason for my update was the food. I usually stick to my staples, but I was feeling really indecisive today and ordered all of the happy hour special food, Y-U-M. The $8.85 ribs were to die for, I loved the glaze on it, the outsides were crispy but the meat on the inside was so soft and fell right off the bone. Four big strips, bone-in, and for a price cheaper than some of the salads? I think I found my new go-to meat fix. I also got the flatbread pizza (flavorful), calamari (one of my faves, better than many on the wharf, what calamari should be), and a chicken quesadilla which I didn't get a chance to try because I had my face in the ribs. The server was also so sweet, really quick, checked in on us multiple times, asked me if I needed a new drink before my first one was empty, and for 3 beers and all that food it was $30. Came on a Saturday morning for breakfast around 9:00. We were seated immediately and got our food really quick as well. I was really impressed with the service. My wife and I split the Mighty Moose, one of their famous dishes and a short stack of blueberry pancakes. The Mighty Moose was pretty heavy and very filling. Taste wise it was fine although nothing special. The short stack was very short, just two pancakes for $6.60. Over all the service was great, I drink a lot of water and the waitress kept my glass full and as soon as we finished eating she cleared our table. What a great Gem of Daly City. This restaurant's decor is ultra chic and warm. The staff are really friendly and not bad to look at either. Lots of eye candy for what you fancy too. The Italian Roast Coffee is dilish! The omlettes are prepared to perfection and very tasty with egg whites for the healthier eater. The Swedish Panacakes are also prepared to perfection and filling. We try to seat on Ma's section today but her section is Full, because we have only little time today so we decided to seat anywhere so they put us on the small table near the serve's room, it's okey because it's busy we understand but the service today is a lousy, our server has a big party and we are not satisfied with his service, the food is okey we order 2x2 and we waited for syrup for a long time, our coffee cups never filled up on time, and we ask the lady doing the to go but she seems so lost I don't know if she understands what is syrup or she don't speak English at all she moved so very slow on this fast pace place, she need to be cheerful even though she's not our server, well she's part of the team right? My first time trying this place. I've driven by many times so we figured, why not? Bit of a longer wait, it's Fathers Day, oh well, to be expected. First off. There were multiple things on the menu that I wanted to order and I find that unusual for me, maybe I'm picky? Or maybe I just usually find one thing I gravitate to, but not this time. A great find in bleak Daly City, yet it's everything SF restaurants are not. Parking, huge restaurant space, more than one restroom, and very generous portions at reasonable prices--you're definitely not in SF here! A good place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They have fun daily early-bird dinner specials, and their customers take them seriously! I hope this place is around for a long time and that they don't reduce the portions and raise the prices. We had forgotten that old people eat super early. So, after leaving a packed to the brim Joe's of Westlake, we went to Boulevard Cafe (which is up the street). The valet parking only sign was a little off putting at first but we later found out it was complimentary. The restaurant itself is pretty cool, it's an old Lyons and still has the original exterior. The inside is a big, open space and has an "old school" feel slightly similar to Joe's but a bit more modern. The food was really good and reasonably priced. There's an early bird special daily from 430pm - 630pm that costs $12.95. It includes soup or salad, a drink, and entree (choice of steak, chicken breast, grilled salmon, red snapper, fried chicken and more). For an extra $3 you can add on a glass of wine. I got the red snapper which was sooooo good - it was flaky and buttery and piled on top of smooth and creamy mashed potatoes. There were also seasoned vegetables on the side that were light and delicious. And, if you love sourdough bread, they bring plenty to the table and is perfectly soft, warm, and sour! I will definitely go back to Boulevard, even if there's no wait at Joe's. The early bird is too great of a deal to pass up! read more

This place is ALWAYS filled up with old folks. I feel like a lil baby crawling in here for breakfast. But I can't help it, I love this place. Everything I've tried here satisfied my tummy. Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner...I've tried it all. I've only had one bad experience from one waiter who gave us attitude. It all started when he was taking our orders and he had this lil smirk on his face as we ordered. He kept sighing as if he was tired or fed up or something. I ordered some cranberry juice with ice, he came back with warm cranberry juice with NO ice. I then asked for some straws...he came by our table and just threw it down and took off....and last, I asked for napkins for all of us....he gave us ONE? I would Always pass by this place and I keep saying to myself, I gotta try this place sometime. When you walk in, the waiting area has a open view of John Daly Bl. with the surrounding houses. The interior has a fancy-contemporary look to it. The 2 times I have dined here, I sit at the counter. I ordered the corned beef hash with eggs, hashbrowns and toast. I really like how they make the hash from scratch and they added green onions to give it more flavor. Seems that the hashbrowns are made fresh unlike other joints they pre-cook them and put them in a pile until they are ready to be served. It was a fabulous sunny day with a bunkerful of friends, we reserved a table 16 strong to try out their American fare. I heard so much about the sweet potato fries, so I did the substitution for it in my fish and chips....and it did not disappoint. There was much food guarding as well as mooching among the group around plates that had the crazy good sweet taters. YES, please do get this side, it isn't greasy and fried delicately crispy (no soggy pieces!). My fish was 3 large pieces and light and flakey in the inside...very good! Unfortunately, my group isn't into sharing their grubs (*shakes fist..what happened to sharing the love?*), but from the positive remarks from my group, Boulevard cafe delivered the goods. I will have to come back another time to try out their classic Mac N Cheese...anything cheesy good will have to be sampled! Service was wonderful. My friend picked this place because it's quite close to his so I had low expectations. The place was packed on Saturday morning. I wanted to suggest other place but was curious if this place is as good as the crowd indicated. So we waited 20 mins for our table. Scanning the menu, my eyes immediately fixed on the John Daly omelette. Can't go wrong with bacon, avocado, mushrooms, tomato, and cheese! And it was really good. Yes, it's just omelette but it had the right amount of moist (not too dry, not too wet).. Impressed with such simple dish yet very well done. This place inspired me to start writing again. I came in for brunch, and ended up ordering the chicken and waffles. These were on point! The chicken was absolutely perfect. The breading was great leaving the meat moist and not greasy. On top of getting almost a full chicken on the plate, the waffle was really good too. Great service, good coffee and close to SFSU, I am totally coming back. In fact, I already have plans to come celebrate my birthday here. I only came with 2 other people so I don't know how things work out for larger groups, but it is always worth a try. On another note, I found the whole design of the building rather interesting due to the very cool waiting area. Not sure what it is about the large spire sticking out of the building, but it feels like something a kid in the 1950's dreamed up while thinking about rocket ships and space robots. Only complaint is the guys restroom doesn't have a urinal. Its not that big of a deal, but just still kind of weird of a restaurants men's bathroom, and I feel that most men would agree when walking into that restroom. This place reminds me of one of those roadside diners you might see while traveling through the middle of nowhere on a road trip. But seeing as it's located in the hustle and bustle of Daly City (especially given its location right on the border of Daly City and San Francisco), it can get very busy. I came in with two others. It was a Sunday evening and pretty busy inside, but they were able to seat us in no more than 15 minutes. I ordered the angel hair pasta and a root beer float for myself. At first, our waiter had trouble hearing and taking down our orders (given the noise level in the restaurant, but he apologized and our items arrived at our table in a timely fashion, despite how busy the restaurant was. I do have to subtract a star, as I feel as though there is insufficient parking. We practically had to fight for a parking spot before finally finding one. Been coming here for many many years from Lyons to Boulevard. My husband and I which includes, my daughter, her husband, my elderly aunt, always dine here at the restaurant. Also, I have introduce this place to a lot of my friends, so proud to share what I have experience. If we didn't feel like driving to eat? We order food all the time. There has been Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner ordering in to always get our go to eats, maybe 3 to 4 times a week not counting are visits. In other words, we like the food they serve. Since, beginning January of 2019. We have had experienced Missing, orders, from the pick up orders. I called and let them know? We were promise to get 20% the next time we visited. Realizing, I have never claimed it. On October 19, 2019 Saturday at 5:15 my husband had picked up 2 dinners with soup, salad and appetizers, and it came to $56.00, total Upon arriving at home, I noticed that my house salad with thousand island is missing, which was the 8th times something missing in our orders. I called and spoke to a Daniela who is the manager in charge. I told her with my angry furious voice, why is this always a problem when we order food to go? She keeps saying its the runner who was responsible for the order. I then ask, "Don't you double check?" She points at everyone but herself. She never diffused my angry emotions to let me know that she will take care of it. She again repeats, when you come next time I will give you 20%. I got more irate, at her suggestions which did not make me feel that she was not simpathetic with me. I told her I want credit back. Then she says but you paid in cash. She was not helping with my frustration. She added anger in my voice. Instead, I insisted in giving my name, address and cell number. She said she refer it to the manager Juan! Wow, unbelievable, she did not have any sense of urgency or even suggest to give me half off and I would have been satisfied. She has no managerial skills and Empathy towards customers. This place used to be great - long time servers you got to know, good food, friendly people and a lively atmosphere. If I were leaving a review for years past it would have been a clear 5 star. Now not so much. I went to Boulevard for the first time in around 8 months and the entire atmosphere is different. It no longer feels like a warm and inviting breakfast spot...more like a quick service high turn over diner. Everything is rushed, my server could barely understand English and got frusturated with my daughter when she asked if hot chocolate came with marshmallows. I asked for hot sauce twice that never came. And the food quality fell off a lot! I used to come here at least once a month but I doubt I'll be back any time soon. read more

Boulevard Cafe reminds me of a late 50's restaurant. The service is pretty decent and the food isn't bad. I've had the pork chops, Caesar salad, fish and chips, mussels appetizer, and best of all the MAC & Cheese. I'm a fan of their mac & cheese- very creamy! I do agree with some reviewers that some of their dishes can be a bit oily and buttery. I think it all depends on what you ordered. I've come here a couple times, and everytime my dining experience was the same -- I had a decent meal and enjoyed the service, but wished I had gone over to Joe's of Westlake instead and endured the wait. This latest trip I ordered the early bird special of Grilled Salmon that came with fresh string beans and very buttered mashed potatoes. Palatable, although it doesn't "wow" your tongue the way fresh wild Alaskan salmon would. The house salad would have been fine except for one major drawback: the leaves, though fresh, tasted as though they'd somehow been accidentally washed in the dish water...very off-putting! I also ordered a cup of the newest soup addition: Blackbean with sour cream. This looked and tasted pretty much like a side of beans at Chevy's, and boy, did they overdo it with sour cream! Don't get me wrong, I'm a sour cream fanatic, but this soup may as well have been Sour Cream with black beans. While I was having all these problems, my partner was enjoying the two thick cuts of eggplant parmigiana with pasta he ordered. I tasted it and no complaints there. We finished off the meal with a Coffee Creme Brulee which was fine, but one of those desserts where you figure,"It would have been better without the extra flavor." A solid four stars. This remodelled Lyon's is a fortunately preserved example of Googie architecture, the hypermodern futurist style from the 1950's. It's fun to come here just for this. The lounge in the back is also pretty fun and I often eat back there because it's a bit quieter than the main room. The food is exactly what one would hope for from Denny's, but which Denny's never delivers. The prices don't seem particularly inexepensive, until one sees the gargantuan portion sizes. Then it seems like a bargain. The food is cooked very well, on a par with the fancy dining destinations of the Bay Area, sans the fancy garnishes or unusual ingredients. The petrale sole is delicate, the steak is juicy, the chicken pot pie is tasty, the macaroni is cheeesy good, and the Caesar and Wedge salads do not disappoint. Also, leave room for dessert! The apple pie a la mode is fabulous, the banana split was great, the chocolate lava cake was pretty good too. Leave with a full stomach and a full wallet. A more lively alternative to Joe's. It's a diner, okay, but it's what every diner should be! read more

I'm giving this place 4 stars because their food and service is surprisingly good. However, be forewarned, it does get expensive. Walking into the restaurant, I'm reminded of a fancy retro Denny's. From the outside it looks like an "old people" restaurant, but walking in, you see the decor is pretty modern, and the clientele ranges from teens to yes, seniors. Their food is actually quite good. They know how to cook meats without using too much grease and oil (or at least make it taste like they were thinking about your calories), which places like Denny's definitely does not do. I'm also impressed with their selection on the menu. Not just pasta and burgers, the also do grilled fish and seafood stews. Alas, when our check came, we were stunned to be charged $1 for hot water (umm...does anyone else get that?) as well as the overall price of the meal. Yes, there is a sea of gray hair....BUT, how can you beat the awesome Early Bird Special with a variety in main course, salad or soup, AND (trumpet blast) a $3 glass of wine??? You can't, so 4 stars! Truthfully, there are young-uns here too later in the evening and the bar is nice (you can eat in there if it's too crowded in the restaurant area). When I'm feeling cheap and HUN-GARRRRRR-E and I want a glass of wine or two or three with pretty good food and I don't want to spend a gang of cash...Boulevard all the way. Disclaimer: I've only had one meal here, which was a light breakfast. This cafe was recommended by a coworker. I was not disappointed! Had the steel cut oatmeal (big bowl--could only eat 1/2) and a cup of fruit and coffee. Everything was great, but I wish they would have pitted the cherries in my fresh fruit cup (delicious, perfectly ripe fruit, though). Service is good (waited awhile to be greeted by a hostess, but that was they only gap in service). Thank you fellow Yelper's...your comments convinced me to try this place. The other half was concerned that it was going to be 'coffee-shop' cuisine, but was pleasantly surprised. Our party of four selected: Mac n' Cheese Italian style; Wedge Salad with blue cheese and balsamic reduction dressing; hamburger; and Thai Steak Salad. Not only did everyone enjoy their meal, but I was oohing and aahing as waitresses passed by with other orders. The next table over had a Yellow Tail Jack Tostada Salad, and a salmon fillet dinner which looked divine. The other thing that I was surprised at was the price of my glass of white wine. It was priced at $3.00 - I haven't seen prices like that in years! Too bad there aren't more 'down-to-earth' places like this - maybe I just don't know where they are. Food is definitely straight forward, portions are adequate, service friendly - no attitude, and the employees hustle. Slackers need not apply here. I really think there was a lot of thought that went into the menu planning. There's something to please everyone. This is no French Laundry - but hey - this is 'everyday' cooking which is comfort food to me. We'll be back. read more

Breakfast - The Moose, which looked nothing like the moose, but was pretty darn good. It had tomatoes, green onions, hash browns, gravy, biscuits, and eggs all stacked together. Sounds busy and it sure it. It's an all american cafe for breakfast, a lot better than a dennys. Highly recommended for breakfast. Dinner - Also with the pasta dishes they have they also have the classic dinners such as meatloaf, and ribs. Which confuses me because it's american and italian? The pasta portions were more than generous and pretty delicious. Nothing special or makes it stand out from any other restaurant, hence the 3 stars. But a good place. I met up with a bunch of my girlfriends on a Saturday morning for some breakfast. This place is huge with plenty of seating, making the wait for a table nonexistent. A few of the folks were running late, but the waitress still came by within a minute to get us started on our coffee. She was very chipper and friendly, which is a great because you would never want to your day with a bitchy waitress right? I ordered The Blvd omelet that came with hash browns and toast. I wish I knew how much food I was getting because the portions were HUGE! You can easily feed two girls with what's on the plate. Everything was pretty good, although I would have liked it more if my hash brown a little more crunchier. With the coffee, the meal came out to around $15. Not bad at all! read more

For me, personally, this is one of those "lets just go to Boulevard" kinda places, if you know what I mean. I've never had a bad experience with service. I had dinner once a year ago, and will probably never go back for dinner again. Its a little un-inspiring, but then again I guess I just expected more. I definitely love the coziness despite how large the dining room area is. However, the one thing I really like is breakfast/brunch. I order the sweedish pancakes every time. So thin, yet so fluffy. I've been here several times for brunch and will go back again many other times when I can't think of anywhere else to go. Although, it's not far from a first choice for pancakes and waffles. read more
