We went to the Boulevard Cafe for drink after movie at Century 20 Theater on Sunday. We caught the last 15 minutes of the happy hour, we order a glass of Merlot and 2 glasses of Cabernet, for $3 each, what a great deal. The Merlot is way better than the Cabernet. However, we didn't order any appetizer because everything is fried from the happy hour menu. it will be great if they can add some veg dip or salad, etc...we did end up ordered dinner, great pre-fix before 6:30 for $13.95 with soup or salad. I had the blackened catfish with buttered mashed potatoes and vegetable. My friend has snapper with the same sides. The snapper is way better, delicious! This was our 4th time there and we love the food and it's right down the street from our house which makes it awesome.....but the service is just absolutely terrible! Each time we hope it's just a fluke...but it sucks each and every time. People forget your order (like if you ask for a side or another drink) and you have to ask several times and sometimes you just never even get what you ask for! It's really disappointing! 1000th review right here! Came in the last morning of Hardly Strickly Bluegrass, and wanted to eat a good breakfast before the festivities. Parking looked packed but we found a spot in 2 minutes, NOT at the apartments, but right outside the front door of the restaurant. My partner ordered "the Moose" and he says it took his favorite dish biscuits and gravy, to "a whole new level." I ordered the 2 by 2 by 2 and replaced the bacon/sausage option with corn beef hash. It was wonderful. My sister and her parter ordered the Club, and their only complaint was that the "turkey was very dry, as was the sandwich. good quality bacon, and the garlic fries were delicious; fresh garlic. However, the turkey was dry," and this is why there are 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that, we were seated very quickly on a busy Sunday morning (5 min wait) and our waitress, Debbie, was both professional and friendly. The posh exterior hides a muted interior, and a strange blend of elements - American diner with a size of a food court and folding-napkins-cleaning-forks-in-plain-sight-edness of Chinese restaurants. Found this a surprising and great value "diner" type restaurant. My party of four had to wait a bit on a Saturday for lunch but it wasn't onerous. Fish and chips were so good I had to take several bites off my partner's plate. My own Reuben was so hot I had a hard time eating it! Great potato salad. The burgers our family ordered were big, juicy and perfectly made. Superb service, and we'll be back. Ate here twice already. One for my birthday and another for a friends birthday. Both times have been really disappointing. And for the price you would think it would taste a lot better? the last time we came here for our friend's birthday there was a bunch of us. we arrived late since we came from davis (friends ordered ahead of time for us) but when we arrived not ONE single waiter came to greet us to ask if we wanted anything to drink or anything. so our friends had to give up one of their waters. We had ordered the italian mac and the california mac. After a couple of bites i was so so sick of my food. Yes, i know a mac and cheese is supposed to be really cheesy but it was too cheesy. Is that even possible? Every bite i took met with a mouthful of disgusting cheese and no mac or chicken or even mushrooms (i had the california mac). My bf had the same problem with his mac and all around us everyone kept saying we must love mac and cheese a lot because that sure was a lot of cheese. We also got a ceasar salad with it and never even received it. It was hard to complain because after they gave us our food they were nowhere to be found and came back only to pester us to see if they could take our half eaten food away. NO YOU IDIOT, im still eating this nasty mess you call food so leave me the EFF alone. They were nice enough though to not be offended over our friend's cake so i guess that was a plus. This is like a paradise for families, especially if you come early (9ish) before the long waits. Our server, Debbie, was amazing. A combo of psychic and therapist, she anticipated every need and made us feel like the only folks in the place. While we don't let our kiddo run amok usually, it's nice to find a place you feel comfortable meeting their needs (booster/high chair, wide variety of foods, cups with lids, room to stretch out, a kindly old man that comes around to drop off balloon animals, etc). The food was also quite good too- American comfort food is probably your best bet here but they do it really well. read more

We really like this place as a local diner. Is it the best food ever? No, but it's decent enough and it's 5 minutes from home. It's gotten MUCH better since they added the Greek food, which we kept telling the Greek owners they should do. Haven't had any bad Greed dishes yet, though the Greek mac and cheese was a tad odd last week. Awesome burgers and brunch rocks. Living in the Sunset there are not a lot of great breakfast places, so we usually go here. Basically it's an upscale diner, used to be a Lyons. Very comfortable, casual, decent food. On weekends the parking can get crowded, but we have always managed to find a space nearby. The yukon gold hash browns are the best, and the swedish lingonberry pancakes are good too. They also have steel cut oatmeal with dried fruit and cream that's great. Don't order the fruit bowl, it's mediocre and overpriced. Once my coffee was totally burnt tasting, but I sent it back and got some decent joe. For lunch or dinner, there are not a lot of vegetarian options. The macaroni and cheese is a decadent treat, very tasty. They have an early bird dinner special (before 6pm I think) that is good value. The staff is really nice, but not always 100% competent. There is one waiter with an awesome heat miser hairdo. They don't take reservations for small parties. There is a lounge/bar, but I've never gone to that part. read more

I used to visit this place back in high school when it was Lyon's and we had nothing better to do on a Saturday night besides drive around the Outer Sunset and order crappy breakfast at 1am. Boulevard Cafe is a much needed change for the better! The space is huge and while they renovated, they maintained the original 50s-60s angular diner style. The food is now more than just edible: it's really really good! I would suggest any of their Greek dishes since the owners are Greek. We sat at the bar, but I might eat in the lounge next time to take advantage of the 21 and older area with the full bar. They also appear to have a private area for parties. Only bummer about the Boulevard Cafe is that it's in Daly City and not in SF, but I think I'm going to have to make the trip down there every so often! read more

Ah, good memories here when I lived in San Francisco. Awesome breakfast platters and at reasonable prices too! The wait is never too long. The only reason why I drop a few stars off is because of the service. The service is hit or miss. The first couple of times I came here the service was friendly and fast. However, I was treated with the worst service on my 5th visit or so. The waitress took my order with an unfriendly attitude and did absolutely nothing for the remainder of my stay. The food was served by someone else- which by the way, had the wrong side dish, my coffee refilled by someone else, extra utensils given by someone else. Why have a waitress working in a restaurant if everything will be done by someone else!? The only time the waitress cared to come over to check up was when it was time to pay the bill and give her a tip. If I had to give a tip, I'd give it to the guy who did everything in her place. Of all the places I've eaten out at, it was the most piss poor service ever. So food- pretty good. Service- well, depends who you get. read more

While at first I was devastated Lyon's was going out of business (ONLY for the fact that one of the only 24-hour restaurants by my house was gone!), I'm impressed how the Boulevard has really turned its location around. I've been coming here with my family since the night it opened. It's often so loud you can barely hear your quiet-speaking relative across the table (well, usually I'm that relative that no one can hear), but that's what makes it a good place for families and dinner parties. The food is consistently delicious no matter what I order, especially the Greek dishes. I've never had a problem with service before either. Whenever my family has to decide between the Boulevard or Westlake Joe's for dinner, we almost always opt for the Boulevard. read more

I mean, really strong. I had to tell the waitress, and i told her the wrong way. She was embarrassed, she thought we were saying it was her sweating all over the place. NO its not her. It was the booth...i guess some people come in and are dressed very comfortable...the smell ruined it for me. I tasted that smell with every bite. I wish we were seated closer to the front where there is more fresh air every time the door opened. hope you don't get this booth. i'll have to try it again one day. read more

I'll start with some positives: has a central location and has a good ambiance. But from there, parking sucks, it's usually busy which results to bad service. The type of bad service that makes you think they forgot about your table. The food is average or slightly above average based on what you get. We were looking for the entrance to the parking lot and this valet guy comes over and says he will park the "car." CAR!!! Boulevard earned 4 stars from me because of the Banana Foster French Toast, it was bombastic! We sat at the counter because the wait for a table was so long. The service was great & quick, & the server was so friendly & attentive. Sitting at the counter does have it's ups & downs, the up is we didn't have to wait & the down was because of what we got to watch while we were waiting to be served. The expediter stood at the counter waiting for the food, he touched everything that he put on plates with his bare hands. For the hour that we sat there he wiped his hands on his pants, a dirty rag, & played with a band aide on his finger that he was using to put bread on plates. Not once did he wash his hands, his hands did get wet when he wrung the dirty rag in the sink & then wiped his hands on his pants. There was another guy standing next to him who had the pleasure of just making toast, he would remove the toast with his bare hands & place it on top of the toaster. Being in the food industry myself this is what you call a huge accident waiting to happen. There is major cross contamination going on & they are putting everyone at risk for food poisoning, especially the guy with the band aid, if he had an infection on his finger it could cause many people to be extremely sick. The management needs to watch their employees closer & teach them the importance of proper hygiene, food safety & cross contamination. read more

These guys have some pretty darn good dishes. They do lamb really well. Their steak is cooked perfectly as requested. Pasta dishes are all so flavorful. (Spaghetti Carbonara was a little over salty though) Fried calamari is stunning!! They have a good mix of American, Greek, and Italian which makes me happy since I'm half Greek and Italian and born in America. read more

Excellent food, great service, decent prices. After reading some of the other reviews, I must think they were already drinking before they arrived. We waited about 4 minutes for a table, the place was packed. I had Fish and Chips, my usual fare and it was VERY good. there were 4 adults and 1 child with us and everyone had great food and friendly service. This bill came and I was pleasantly surprised at the total. I gave them 5 stars because I feel they deserve it, I am very critical of food establishments. I will be a return customer, and I have told everyone I know in the area to stop by. read more

Just got back from having dinner there . . . It's my usual stop on the way back down to Santa Cruz from San Francisco . . . Had the super delicious Avgolemono soup. (Chicken/rice/lemon and some herbs). Then the Chicken Piccata, sub spinach for the mashed potatoes, and finished with the "to-die-for" baked pumpkin pudding, fresh out of the oven. WOW!! what a fantastic dessert. The whole meal was wonderful. The staff was attentive and answered my picky questions. The manager gave me the recipe for the soup. We got seated really fast, and was placed with the best server, Ana, whom provided the best customer service one could want. She provided us with great options and was always looking out for us. The food was great, the double breast chicken was very moist and full of flavor. Their garlic fries were also nicely made, very crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. There was also just enough garlic that isn't overwhelming. However, their calamari wasn't crispy, the fried layer was too soft so it just came right off when dipping into the sauce. Nevertheless, the calamari, itself, was perfectly cook. Overall, the portions are great, fitting for their price. Especially better when there is happy hour.
