This isn't a comment on the food, as I've eaten there in the past and have enjoyed it a lot, but yesterday we arrived a little before one to get a table and was advised very perfunctorily that they weren't taking any more customers for the day, without any further explanation. I was really put out by this, not to mention confused as it was still early in the afternoon, but coming to this page I can see that they close at 3pm on Sundays. That makes a bit more sense now, especially if their waiting list stretched til 3 (possible as it was a busy day in the district with the perfect weather), but I still think the hostess should have added that little detail as we were from out of town and not necessarily aware of the closing time. read more

We have been to Bradens a number of times during covid because of their nice outdoor dining area. Nicely shaded and all the servers wore masks. Strawberry spinach salad is delicious and pork tenderloin sandwich is huge. And you get table service unlike the bbq place next door. read more

0 covid restrictions were met! Not a mask in sight. Restaurant didn't make any effort to protect customers or employees from covid. NO employees were wearing masks, not even when taking orders. Tables weren't spaced out or marked off to adhere to social distancing. Windows and doors were all closed, no fans running, no ventilation whatsoever. Tables weren't sanitized between customers, just slightly brushed off. I was having a panic attack my whole meal bc I'm not fully vaccinated yet. Will be reporting them to the town as well -- in the entire year of the pandemic I've never seen an establishment try so little. read more

I used to be a regular here, unfortunately they got rid of their crispy fries (they serve crinkle fries now) and also changed their chicken strips. My boyfriend and I ate here tonight for the first time, and it is definitely a little hidden gem on Main Street. Our food was amazing! We had fried pickles as an appetizer and they were crispy and delicious fried spears. We had lobster bisque and it was simply perfect! Best soup I've had ever :) The filet was the best steak I have had in years! So tender and juicy... perfectly cooked and seasoned. Our waitress, Shay, was new but very nice! We had the spinach salad, and the pork tenderloin sandwich. It was that special moment when the pork was fried perfectly crispy but inside was still juicy. The portions were large enough we could have shared. The homemade potato chips were a nice compliment and something not so ordinary. The salad was fresh and bright, and the hot bacon dressing was delicious. Service was excellent. Indoor seating is nice, but we greatly enjoyed the patio today. read more

Visited on a warm afternoon in St Charles hoping to sit on the patio, but they had it closed for some reason. We chose to still check it out and sit inside, and I would rate this place as average. They offer a diverse menu, and the prices are fair. I got a turkey burger and my boyfriend got a French dip sandwich, and both were pretty average. We also tried the upside down German chocolate cake for dessert, and that was my favorite thing about our lunch! My one major complaint was the service was very slow. It took about 30-40 minutes to get our food and we showed up hungry. They do have a fantastic draft selection of beer, and some great specialty cocktails. I think I would prefer to visit this place again for drinks and appetizers rather than an actual meal. read more

A lovely breakfast on the patio under the shade of an umbrella and enjoying a lovely breeze. We both got two scrambled eggs (get the eggs any way you desire), breakfast meat (she, bacon; me, sausage -- 2, and they were BIG) potatoes and bread (she, biscuit; me, wheat). The service and server were spectacular. The meal was solid, tasty and really hit the spot. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the sausage was tasty and plentiful, the toast was well-buttered and fresh, and the potatoes were crispy-crunchy chunks. The breakfast menu isn't huge, but there are enough choices to satisfy. A man at a table close to us got the French Toast, and it was a massive pile on his plate. We didin't watch to see how he delved into that feast! Inside is beautiful dark wood. A well-appointed bar and to the left, two quaint dining rooms, one with a fireplace. This was a quaint and stylish place. I loved the ambiance, it was and old house converted to a restaurant (like many on Main Street). I really wanted to sit outside, but it was way too hot. The food came quickly and was above average. Only complaint, it was a bit tight inside when it was busy, but that's to be expected on Main Street. You learn to deal with it. We went to Braddens Restaurant for a group dinner. The first thing that was spot on and just terrific was our waiter. He was great. Warm and funny. I wish I knew his name to call him out. Terrific job in serving eleven folks! We ordered some appetizers. The Toasted Ravioli and the Guacamole bites. Both had good taste, however, we all leaned towards the Guacamole bites. IT has a nice bite to it as well. Off to a good start. We then ordered our dinners, ranging from Filet, Tilapia, Pork Chop, Tuna Burger, Steak Sandwich, etc. Needless to say, everyone really enjoyed their dinners and the portions were good sized. The Filet with a butterfly cut was cooked to perfection (relief) ! We really had no complaints at all on the food. Good comfort food served at a fair price with great service. We got there a bit late so some of the deserts were sold out. The upside down German Chocolate cake was sold out as was a couple pies. We did have some gooey pudding/pie desert that was super delicious. It is a cross between pudding and a pie. Also, the chocolate cake mouse with Ice cream was 'OMG' huge for us. Had just opened so seating was immediate and choice of seats. Extensive menu choices for lunch. 3 choices for soups, the lobster bisque was very good, excellent flavor but a bit light on lobster. With the weather being so flipping fantastic lately, it was hard to avoid a short walk around Old Town with the wife and kid, and naturally we were looking for some place with a patio for lunch. Bradden's was perfectly located by the shops we were looking forward to visiting, and the reviews were reassuring, so we decided to give it a shot. First impressions for me was what looked like a small patio actually opens up into a multi level series of patios, which only get larger the further back you go. We were seated at a secluded table right by a small pool and waterfall built into the landscaping. It made for a nice little setting as we enjoyed a cool breeze on a gorgeous day. I ordered the River Cafe Half Pound Burger which is absolutely fantastic. It might be the best burger in Old Town, for my tastes at least. I will be honest, I was so involved in my burger, I cannot even tell you what the wife ate. I think she had the veggie burger, which she somehow enjoyed as well. (she offered me a bite to try, but why the hell would I "try" a veggie burger when I'm eating an awesome REAL burger? Crazy!) Little man had a 5oz bottle with some Enfamil, for those keeping track. Service was also pretty much on point. The glasses never went under half full, they kept up with checking in on us even after the bill was paid, never a lapse in service. My only complaint here would be in the prices. It's a given that the better restaurants will charge a bit more, but the pricing here puts the place in the realm of the "occasional" visit as opposed to the "top 5" places to eat out for me and the wife. Budgets are budgets, and despite everything else, the prices will limit my visits in the future. read more

Amazing food, service and location. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip which is one of the best I've had. The Bison burger was pretty good and the sweet potato fries were tasty. My fiancé had the French dip which was SOO good. My mother in law loved her portobello mushroom sandwich. I hate some people rate as according to 5 star restaurant grading system when these reviews are meant for people to know how good a restaurant is. I want a 5 star restaurant I don't look on yelp. Duck in for a nice bowl of lobster bisque when the weather turns cold! This is local spot a friend and I love to check out when she visits town. It's our restaurant. It's one of the first restaurants my boyfriend and I went to together. I have some rather pleasant memories there. My favorite spot is in the back of the restaurant near the fireplace. It's wonderfully nice and toasty and keeps you warm during the cold winter months. Combine that with a warm bowl of soup and a bison burger and you have peak levels of comfort. This restaurant is the kind of place I like to go to when I want to sit down and talk to someone for awhile and just meander. The staff is helpful, but they don't bother you constantly. It typically doesn't get very crowded and the crowd that tends to go to this restaurant seems to be older or more family-oriented. I think I saw an older lady poker night there once. The atmosphere is very cozy and in my opinion, best enjoyed in winter. This is the type of place where you could have a meal and drink a beer or an Angry Orchard as you page through a novel. Try the bison burger medium rare. It's just melts in your mouth. Tastes best with everything on it and the homemade chips. read more

The gist: -Food quality for price is terrible. -Service was average to bad. -Ambiance was quaint, but no air conditioning in the summer makes ambiance irrelevant. Details: -$18 for an Alfredo "Cajun" pasta that tasted like it came from a jar; it needed to be doused in pepper for taste. -$7 for a small glass of average wine. $3 up-charge for microwaved chicken. - Burger was average. $2 up-charge for sweet potatoes fries, which you'll want to do because the regular fries look like the frozen wavy fries from the grocery store. -Food took forever to arrive. - 93 degrees outside, and inside there is no A/C (or there is a poorly working A/C) so there is a fan going to cool off a high ceiling-room, which did very little. No communication or apology for the strange set up. If it's not normal, please explain; if it is normal, well it shouldn't be. - Waiter was always in a rush/had a weird attitude (concession: maybe they were understaffed?) - We had made reservations for the shaded patio, but when we arrived, we were seated inside. I thought maybe they did this because of the heat(?). This change was never communicated, so they probably just got it wrong. In the end, when we walked outside afterward, it was cooler outside than in. Conclusion: Don't waste your time and money like we did. There are lots of better places to eat in the area. We were in Old St Charles and were trying to figure out where we wanted to eat. A very friendly man outside of Bradden's insisted we go in and try it. We went in the little historic building and that nice gentleman turned out to be the owner. There were two quaint little dining rooms and a small bar area. Yelp says Bradden's is open until 10pm, but it's not, the kitchen closes at 8pm. In fact, they just seem to close whenever they get tired. If its 7:56 they won't even sell you a simple piece of gooey butter cake. "We're closed" they say. The worker almost knocked me down to grab the closed sign, and didn't even apologize. This place won't last if they treat their customers this way. Go to Lewis and clarks instead, they will serve you atleast!!! read more

PRO: steak (NY Strip) was flavorful and done correctly, service was prompt and attentive, toasted ravioli was great and gooey butter cake was outstanding. CON: fried shrimp with "surf and turf" special was a pre-battered frozen product which was ghastly, coconut cream pie (which they're known for) was surprisingly bland, overpriced for the overall quality of the food. read more

Recently, a relative from New Jersey came out to visit and we decided to try out this establishment. We came in on a weekday night (Thursday if correct) - it was not super busy, but we were still greeted and seated quickly by our hostess (Erica). Erica came back quickly after we were seated and drinks were ordered. A pretty good wine list was made available (of course we all want an endless list, but I was pretty happy with this one). We then tried one of the appetizers (Fried Pickles). OK, this was good...lightly breaded and just perfect. I probably could have made a meal out of it, but the next course was yet to come... I has the 12 oz Ribeye Steak...the rest of my group all had the 12 oz Strip Steak. Once ordered, we enjoyed looking around and having a nice fireplace at one end - then looking up in the main dining area and noticing the stained glass. ..definitely good decor to look at. Our steaks all then arrived...noticing the generous portion of them as well. This was going to be some meal. No steak was cooked incorrectly, the baked potato I had on the side was perfect (yes, it is really easy to under/over cook them). I enjoyed a glass (well, two) of the Cellar #8 Cabernet...went perfect with the meal. I was stuffed and we have not even had dessert as of yet. Erica brought out a list of Alice's homemade desserts. They looked great. Unfortunately, since I was pretty much stuffed, I had to pass. So...here's my grade for Bradden's...great service, great food, great price. Score an "A" - well done! Hostess did not wear a mask. She was hot and sweating. She had tables open and kept us waiting until a waiter came and asked her what she was doing. My husband and I met my mother in law for lunch here today. The pros were the warm fireplace and its a great location. Other than that, I was not impressed with this place. Started with spinach/artichoke dip. It was ok. Hubs ordered the turkey burger and salad. MIL ordered lobster bisque and BLT. I got the lobster bisque and Caesar salad. My Caesar salad was not good. Too much dressing with an unappetizing sweet taste. The lobster bisque was palatable but with tiny specks of sawdust sized "lobster". It just really seemed like it came from a powder mix. The recent, horrible reviews are definitely valid. The service is horrid. If you like being ignored, this is the place for you. The waitress passed by us without ever even acknowledging we were there, within a foot of us. We ended up leaving after 10 minutes of being ignored. She obviously wasn't going to bother with us. It seems to be the common denominator with this place...lack of service and being treated as if they couldn't care less that you are there to give them your business. read more

Atmosphere is great (the weather really cooperated). Eight of us were served with top notch service. Our group had different menu items ranging from soups, salads, pork chops, desserts, seafood.
