I'm incredibly disappointed in this location. I went in and let the service staff know my wife hit a pretty bad pot hole and that the car was shaking severely (believing it was an alignment issue). I agreed to pay for the 3 year alignment package thinking it couldn't hurt to get it done from time to time. Once the alignment had been done, the car continued to shake just as before. It was at this time that the person claiming to be the manager advised me that he had discovered a problem with the lower control arms of my 2022 Hyundai Tucson. His quote to fix them? $713.82 each for both and he suggested both be replaced at the same time because it was bad to do just one. So +/- $1,400 is what he wanted to do the work the same day so I wouldn't "destroy" my car. Spending this amount of money without getting a second opinion didn't sit right with me, so I took my car to a locally owned tire shop down San Pedro. The issue they identified? A bulge in the driver's side front tire. $75 bucks and a used tire later, my car is running like new. Shame on y'all. You're the reason no one trusts people in the trade. You can keep the 2yrs and 10 months of your alignment service, my family and I will never return to this location or franchise again. read more

I've visited this location several times over the last couple years. My experiences have always been positive and the work done quickly and well; note that I've only had oil changes. I've never had to wait too long, typical wait is 30 minutes or so. Employees are nice enough. Cost is reasonable. Buy 3 get the 4th free on oil changes. This is the second location that messed up my girlfriends car. These techs can't seem to screw down a splash guard correctly. Almost caused her to crash when it came loose. I believe they do is steal the screws and use zip ties to hold it down. I have had to buy the screws multiple time only for them to keep "getting lost". Has happened multiple times. I stopped into get an oil change that was needed and asked them to check my breaks because I was hearing squeaking. They give $10 off the first oil change ($50 and change with the discount for full synthetic) They offered a fire rotation for free. They walked me through my breaks and honestly told me there's plenty left on the pads and they wouldn't feel right telling me I needed breaks. They were quick and efficient. I was back on the road in no time and am glad they didn't try to take advantage of me just because I'm a girl. read more

My husband and I took our Jeep in to get the brakes checked and redone. One would think, given the name, that it would be a simple process that they do all day, everyday. Originally, we thought it was a great experience. Brakes were done, price was exactly what they said it should be. But-2 days later, my car began to make a terrible noise. People were staring. It was uncool, so back we went. The manager called us later to let us know that a crucial piece of the brakes had not been redone...it was simply 'forgotten', and would cost quite a bit of money to fix. To make up for the oversight, they offered to give us a discounted rate on the lifetime alignment deal. Later, when I returned (instead of my husband), the guy at the counter tried to charge me all over again for the ENTIRE brake job (which we had already paid for several days prior). I had to explain myself multiple times. The discounted price was also not given to me since I had not been the one to have the conversation with the manager and the guy at the counter 'could not honor that price'. All in all, it was an awful experience. There are plenty of other places in town for us to take our business. read more

I had my alignment done about a week ago after spinning out of control on icy roads. They also said my rear driver side bearing was, for lack of a better word, shot to shit. They didn't have the part that I needed, and if I wanted to order it with them, it would be $200, and they would again need to do another alignment after repairing the bearing. I told them I could buy the part from Honda for $150 and they confirmed I could bring the part back to this location and they would do the alignment for free and discount the labor since they didn't have it in stock. I order the part from Honda on Friday, Christmas Eve EVE, and the part arrives on Tuesday. Woohoo!!! Call Brake Check back, the guy who originally helped us and told us he would be giving us a discount is not there, and the guy on the other end of the line is going on about how his co worker shouldn't have said anything like that to us and that they cannot use my ordered part, because THEY would have to order it, and that he would speak with a manager. Okay? Really? Is it MY fault your coworker misinformed us? No it is not. And I think it should still be honored like any respectable business would do. This is ridiculous. I wouldn't have paid for the initial alignment if I had known they were just going to take me for a ride like this. I really can't stand Brake Check. It wasn't my first choice to get my alignment done, but my boyfriend took the car here without my approval (Yes he is getting an earful, but I understand he was just trying to help) Dear Brake Check, I hate you so much. You've wasted hours of my life and have pretty much stolen hundreds of dollars from me including my previous experience with Brake Check at the Silverado movie location. If you have any respect for yourself as a business, or manager of said business, or just for your customers for fuck's sake - this could be prevented. Brake Check #421 @ 515 Austin Highway This is what customer service should be for an auto repair shop. My brakes were "squealing" that they needed attention so I was doing my homework and decided to check the services of my local Brake Check vendor. I went on Thursday the 25th of June to get more information and met with the Store Director Charles Gonzalez. Luckily I caught him at a slow time and we discussed what was happening to my car and what I could expect with a follow up inspection. He explained step by step what would be expected and how I could save some additional money by booking my appointment on line to get a parts discount. Since I live nearby his staff could drive me home to wait if I wanted to versus their waiting room. I scheduled my appointment for 9am on Sunday the 28th and everything went flawlessly. From Anthony the duty manager working that morning who took me in a few minutes earlier who also did the initial inspection to Marko the visiting mechanic from another Brake Check who drove me home and picked me up to get my car, every individual was very professional. I was told the job would take 3 hours but was notified it was done after 1.5 hours as they put 2 guys on the job. The cost was in line to my budget expectations and I was happy to pay and look forward to recommending this store to my friends and family. I give Brake Check #421 my highest recommendation and will seriously consider them for other mechanical services when the time comes. Probably the only honest Brake Check in town. Didn't try to gouge me on anything else, I came in for my lifetime alignment after w loop 1604 refused. These guys checked out my contract, checked the system, and aligned my car within an hour. No oil change bs, no filter bs, no flush sales, just did my alignment and even shook my hand. LEFT WITH NO BRAKES! Don't go to Brake Check! Went to get new brake pads, calipers and rotors done. Left location and didn't have brakes at the first stop light. Had to make a quick u-turn to avoid hitting a truck. Went back and tech said caliper seal popped out and that happens sometimes!!?? They are sloppy and don't know how to do a basic brake job! Beware! Do anything you can to avoid this place like the plague. This place was without compare the worst automotive repair experience of my 30 years. I had gone to this place for a brake job, but quickly discovered my power steering rack needed replacing. They assured me this repair would be no problem for them. They have their own alignment bay, and in theory, should be adequate to the task. I was dead wrong. First, after several days delay, the power steering rack they installed was done improperly, and broke yet again. Power steering fluid everywhere. A total loss. In addition, the idiot who broke my new power steering rack also took it upon himself to turn my steering wheel while decoupled from the rack. Any semi-competent mechanic knows this breaks a vital sensor in the steering wheel known as the clock spring. When this is broken you airbags can fail to deploy, deploy without warning and all of your dash warning lights are lit up like Christmas. They first insisted it had "come in that way", before finally admitting that it was their fault. The district manager was now involved. He was no more helpful than the rest of his staff. My car had now been in this place two weeks, and he refused to offer me an apology or a rental car. Finally, my car was finished and I was told to pick it up. After driving about one block I knew something was terribly wrong. My car was very difficult to control, and making terrible noises in turns. Sure enough, they had either completely neglected to align the front end as they assured me they had, had done it so badly they should be fired or were simply trying to kill me and my family. I took it back, insisted on the manager doing the work himself, and am finally in possession of a drivable car almost three weeks into the "repairs". Brake Check does not ASE certify ANY of their mechanics. In conversation with one of the technicians I discovered it was actively discouraged by upper management to prevent them from finding other work. The result are incompetent and jaded workers who broke more than they fixed. read more

To explain my situation...I'm in San Antonio, TX for Army training at Fort Sam Houston (2 1/2-3 months). I drove from San Francisco, CA to have the convenience of having my vehicle to explore Texas when I have time off. This is where my car troubles come in. One early morning, I started to back out of my parking spot when my car sounded like it ran over a baby seal (the squeaky brakes were that loud). It brought unnecessary attention to me and my car, and I was quite embarrassed, as my colleagues were clearly judging me as a Californian who doesn't care about the environment or his car. The thing was that after a minute or so of driving, the squeaky brakes went away. So a few days go by with the same issues in the morning. I thought it was the different, humid and cold Texas weather that was inflicting on my brakes. To an extent, it was. But I decided not to risk having more damage to my potentially worn brakes, so I took it to a brake shop called Brake Check. Now not being from Texas, I didn't know where to go and felt like a lost puppy. I walked in and explained my situation, and had the store owner and crew perform a free brake check. Glad it was free, because come to find out my front brakes were in good condition, but it was the rear brakes that were in not so good shape. He explained what needed to be done with my situation, and me not knowing much about brake problems, I trusted him because he is the expert here. I knew I wasn't getting stiffed with unnecessary adjustments and parts, so I agreed to have my brakes and brake fluid replaced on the spot, same day. That to me was awesome, as back home a mechanic would look at me silly if I asked to have my car fixed same day without charging more. The store owner even gave me a military discount, which I did not ask for at first. He also recommended cool spots around San Antonio where the fun was, since I'm not from around here. In about 75 minutes, my car was as good as new, and the squeaky brakes were gone! I was so content with the quality service and friendliness from a shop nowhere near my home, and I'm pretty reserved when it comes to trusting other people from another part of the country I've never ventured in. My car runs and brakes smooth now, and for a very reasonable price. I'm happy I found this place, and highly recommend them for any brake issues. They tell you what needs to be done straight up, no hassling. Great service and very helpful, friendly staff. I originally went to Discount Tire Co. for a set of new tires. They improperly balanced the tires, and then refused to mount the new tires on my car because I have a set of very narrow spacers on my front hubs. So I went down the street to Brake Check and they took care of everything, properly balanced the tires, and even stayed late to make sure my car was finished on the same day I brought it in. Took my work truck in after calling and verifying from manager that I had a tight schedule and no matter what, I could not have my truck down for less than three hours. Can u handle that, the said most definitely ...after calling me back 3 times to change the price after they already did their "brake inspection" my quote went from $500-1100 after they had already been deep in the work! To make matters so much worse, they took 7 hours to do the job, I had to cancel meetings and lose money at work all because they fed me some garbage lie saying " no matter what ur brake issues are a problem, we can have you back on the road in 3 hours.....it wasn't to pleasant getting yelled at by my clients! read more

I had similar experiences as other reviewer here: went in to check for brake squeaking: replaced all four pads and resurfaced disk as recommended---- it did nothing to resolve brake squeaking. Went in second time but no improvement either. The initial squeaking happened when brake hard. Now it squeaks when brake not that hard. Thought it would go away with the new pads break in but it's been three months. This is not rocket science, but unfortunately it seems Brake Check IS NOT brake expert.
